However if like myself you haven’t leafed through a Sunday supplement for a many a year, you might not be aware of the absence of the Bose Wave. They were discontinued a few years ago.

Now that the Wave has gone I'm wondering if it was actually any good, or was it, as so many claim, an overpriced and mediocre piece of tech sold to people with too much money who didn’t know any better. Seems like it’s time for an overdue and overlong video examination of the final model.

CORRECTION - According to Daniel in the comments the FM radio can be controlled like this without the remote…
You can't manually tune the stations without the remote, but if you set the input to radio and then press the square STOP button on the boombox (which you'll notice is also "AUTO" on the remote) the radio presets will automatically be filled with all available radio stations (up to 30). Then just press forward and back to flip through them. You can also change the "scan settings" to "Strong Stations Only" for this mode where it will only fill the presets with stations it is picking up clearly.

HDMI via a Cat6 cable works surprisingly well

Techmoan 2024-04-06 | If you need to route video around the house - your best option might be to use a dedicated Cat6 or Cat5e cable.
NOTE - This is not a networked Ethernet connection - with these specific adaptors you can't send the HDMI signal via a router, a switch, an Ethernet over power-line connector, a WiFi transmitter, etc - you're just using a Cat6 (or CAT5e) cable as a substitute for a HDMI lead. The benefits are that you can have a longer cable run and the cable is easier to route through small holes and conduits.

There are more capable (and expensive) options available in this range of HDMI extenders if you need to send UHD HDR video. The full range is on the manufacturer website orei.com

Some have demanded to know why I didn’t move the cable co-ax into the lounge. Firstly, don’t worry so much about my situation, I’m demonstrating a piece of tech, I’m not asking anyone to move in. However the reasons for not wanting to move the co-ax are as follows
1) The co-ax cable is still needed in the office room where it connects to the router and in turn distributes internet to the whole house. I don’t want to move the whole router set up. It works well where it is.
2) One option then might be extending/splitting the broadband co-ax and sending it to two rooms, however this is something that would have to be done by an installer allocated by the cable company and that’s a hassle as well as an expense.
3) There’s no easy cable path from the cable termination box outside to the back of the TV area. Installation of the Sky satellite cables between the same two points twenty years ago involved digging up the bitumen lounge floor - and that’s not something I’m prepared to go through again.

For the sake of £36 for these boxes there’s no engineer, no disruption, no big bill and zero hassle. Frankly you’d have to be a maniac not to go with this option given the choice and especially so when there’s an unused Cat6 cable already connecting the two locations.

A bit of extra info about ribbon cables -
I didn’t include this in the video as it’s irrelevant to almost everyone, but just in case you do go looking for an EBP-78 DC adaptor… it’s worth noting that the ribbon cable connectors on the FH7 Mk3 have plastic cut-outs at the top that accommodate corresponding protrusions present on the FH7 Mk3 sockets. The Mk2 sockets don't have these protrusions. Therefore the Mk3 cable that was included with my DC power adaptor fitted my FH7 Mk2 just fine, but the Mk2 cable would have need trimming with a Dremel to fit the FH7 Mk3 DC power supply’s ribbon cable socket. The pin-outs are the same. You see now why I didn't include this bit...yawn.
