KISS CoversWorking my way through Creatures now with my cover of Saint And Sinner by KISS, as performed on their 1982 album Creatures Of The Night.
Not a bad song but I think the melodic lead work really saves this one. I believe it's doubled on the album and I did that here too but only included one guitar in the video to avoid redundancy.
I am NOT a professional guitar player, in fact I've never actually taken a formal lesson. I just love to play. My intention isn't artistic expression, but rather to document how I think these songs are played, both as a reference for myself and others wishing to learn. I welcome any suggestions or comments that might help me or anyone else improve their appreciation of this classic music catalog.

Not my favorite track from Mr. Stanley, but a great closer to an otherwise classic album.

I can't say I was overly enthused to cover this track. In fact, it one on my least favorite tracks of the classic era. Probably due to being overplayed so much over the years. Without the vocals here, it sounds kind of flat to me. Maybe someday I'll take a shot at it and add them in.

I've always liked this track, it's big, melodic and catchy but I think the cheesy tiltle and lyrics hold back it's full potential.
Pretty simple song to play and the solo, performed by Tommy Thayer (I beleive), suits the song perfectly. There is a third rhythm guitar played throughout that I didn't include in the video. Instead I just consolidated the parts with only two.

There is a 3rd rythm guitar (not included in the video) that doubles the other 2. It's hard to detect but it's definetly there on the album. There are also 4 different lead guiatrs in the solo brining the guitar total to 7. Noteable for this relatively simple song.

The solo is cool and I'm pretty sure it's ACE here. There is a second guitar playing the harmony notes but I didn't include it in the video.

I've had this one 90% done for about a year now but I needed a 12-string to complete it. A regular acoustic just didn't sound right. I didn't include the 12-string performance in the video but I think it's clear where and what it plays.
Unusual tones on all of the instruments (especially the bass) but I did the best I could with what I have. The solo is awesome and features Ace at his (sloppy) best!

Meat and potatoes stuff and the beginings of that big drum sound they captured on Creatures. Not my favorite of the 4 new tracks but it kind of rocks.
I think Paul was at his vocal peak during this period and he really shines on all 4 tracks. Very underated in my opinion.

I love this track and the solo is so cool. I've gained so much appreciation for Vinnie's talent and I love what he brought to KISS during this period. The outro lead work is an assortment weird whammy bar madness that is completely outside of my wheelhouse. I did my best interruption anyway.

I know a lot of people really like this song, and I am no exception. I think Paul is at his best when he gets emotional in his songwriting. I really love Paul's vocal range during this period and this song demonstrates one of his strongest vocal performances
The lead work is really cool too. I'm no Robben Ford but I did my best.

I guess this could be considered the band's first classic track from the 1980's.
I've grown somewhat tired of this track over the years but it's kind of fun to play. I think the studio version blows away any live performance that I've ever heard from the band. I guess it's hard to replicate that big drum sound on stage.

Probably my favorite Gene track on this album. I love the bombastic energy and an almost eerie quality to the tone.
As with Keep Me Comin', trying to do justice to one the best metal drum productions EVER, is all but impossible with the resources that I have. Same with the bass, which has a very high end metallic tone throughout the album that I can't capture on my bass. I suspect Gene used round wound strings and I wasn't about to restring my bass just for that.

This is my 2nd favorite KISS album and I think the band really delivered a fine performance on every track . I love the strong bass and drum presence that dominates throughout. This is also what made it difficult to program; especially with the limited resources I have available. I gave it my best shot anyway.

I've always found it interesting that my wife has no love for KISS music, but actually loves this song. I guess that says something about the the songwriting on this track. One of the bands best slower tempo tracks in my opinion.

A Great riff and a monumental guitar solo but this is actually one of my least favorite ACE tracks. It always seemed too plodding compared to some of his other stuff. But the solo brings the track to life around the 2 minute mark. Ace was clearly at his best here because I've never heard him play any better than this. For me, it's a real challenge to play this without being a little sloppy. I guess it's only Rock n' Roll though right?

I redid the drums (to be more bombastic like the album) and included the bass in the video for this version. I also added the doubled acoustic guitar to the entire song. I originally thought it was only in the chorus.

What a great song this is. One of Paul's best in my opinion. In fact I don't hear ACE anywhere on this track. I think Paul may have played all of the instruments himself, except the drums of course.
I redid most of the track to fit with my current standards of production. I kept the lead guitar and some of the acoustic work intact from the previous version. Of notable importance here, there are more guitars on this track than I can properly show in the video so I've elected to show only the major parts. (ie. during the bridge and outro sections).

Just like Save Your Love, I felt it deserved an update. I only kept the solos and the acoustic guitar from my original version and redid everything else. The bass is now also included in the video. I also added a few bells and whistles (literally!) to the track to make sound complete.
Of notable importance, in addition to bridge/outro sections, there is also an additional acoustic guitar (low in the mix) doubling the main guitar throughout the entire song. I totally missed it before but it sounds much better with it in there. I excluded from the video because I didn't deem it necesary.

I know this is song that divides many KISS fans but I happen to like it. The lead work is cool and the rhythm is really easy and fun to play. I chose to play it the way I've seen it done live, with Paul using the capo on the 7th fret. It really adds some thickness to the chords and makes it easy to play in a live scenario.

This is probably my favorite track from the album but the solo is a bitch to play in certain parts. It's weird and it's fast. It took awhile for my brain to get the hang of it but I did my best.

(KISS Cover)KISS Covers2018-12-13 | My cover of Is That You? by KISS, as performed on their 1980 album Unmasked.
I've always loved this track. There were a few guitar parts that I wasn't sure about but I think I've got them resolved now. It's also interesting that for a pop song, the guitars are rather nasty sounding.
I'm pretty sure that the solo is Paul again . It's actually doubled and with an ending harmony lick that I didn't include in the video.
I am NOT a professional guitar player, in fact I've never actually taken a formal lesson. I just love to play. My intention isn't artistic expression, but rather to document how I think these songs are played. Both as a reference for myself and others wishing to learn. I welcome any suggestions or comments that might help me or anyone else improve their appreciation of this classic music catalog.Talk To Me (KISS Cover)KISS Covers2018-12-12 | My UPDATED cover of Talk To Me by KISS, as performed on their 1980 album Unmasked. Once again, ACE in Keith Richard's mode. Fun song to play, especially the solo.
I replaced the drums and included the bass in the video. I also redid the the guitars in the outro which was wrong in my previous version.

This is ACE in full on Keith Richards mode. I always feel like I'm playing Brown Sugar or Start Me Up when I play this song.
There is actually a clean guitar that shows up in outro chorus that just doubles the main guitar (to add a little sparkle I guess) but I didn't include that in the video.

Not my favorite song on the album but I thought I'd give it a shot.
As always, I play all the guitar and bass parts over a drum track that I produced. The song is super simple to play but the solo is a bit of a mess. I'm sure it's a studio musician who performed it on the album because the crazy tremolo bar work is very uncharacteric for KISS at point. It's also really hard to hear in parts because it's so low in the original mix but I did my best.

This song should have been a hit in my opinion. Everytime I play it, it makes me dance. I tried to restrain myself in the video though.

I've always loved this song for some reason.
As always, I play all the guitar and bass parts over a drum track that I produced. A very simple song, but it's performance requires some really heavy palm muting to get it right.

As always, I play all the guitar and bass parts over a drum track that I put together. I've always loved the lead work in this song and it was really fun trying to learn the parts. It's also important to note that this song has plently of overdubs thoughout the song (ie. the subltle, but essential opening pick slide in the right channel), but I declined to show them in the video since it would clutter the presentation.

I added the bass to the video and touched up the drum track in places, but left the guitars in tact. As always, I play all the guitar and bass parts over a drum track that I produced.
