Ultimately, all these mysteries are realized in Christ Jesus through the Sacrament of Priesthood.
During the first thousand years after the resurrection of our Savior and the descending of Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the Church was practicing the Holy Sacraments, unoccupied by their actual number, for none of the believers doubted the work of God through them, but was delighted in God by them.
These sacraments reveal the church’s holy vision towards the body that was called into the unity with the soul in the heavenly glories, delighted by the new nature. This was clearly stated by the apostle in chapter fifteen of his first epistle to the Corinthians, for the body to share the eternal inheritance with the soul, as the believer will enter into the heavenly inheritance with all his being.

Marriage or Virginity: Which Is My Path? Fr. Josiah Trenham

TOP - The Orthodox Project 2022-09-30 | Understanding Marriage and Virginity is critical. Ultimately, both paths are paths "of," and "towards" Holiness. This is one of the sermons which opened my eyes to God's amazing grace and love, years ago.

Archpriest Josiah B. Trenham is pastor of St. Andrew Orthodox Christian Church in Riverside, California. A former clergyman of the Presbyterian and Reformed Episcopal Churches, in 1993 he was received into the Eastern Orthodox Church and ordained to the holy priesthood by Bishop Basil of Wichita and Mid-America. In 2004 he received his Ph.D. in theology from the University of Durham, England, where he studied under the renowned Orthodox Christian professor of Patristics Fr. Andrew Louth. His dissertation, "Marriage and Virginity according to St. John Chrysostom," was published by St. Herman Press as Terrestrial Angels: Marriage and Virginity according to St. John Chrysostom, with a popularization and expansion planned under God's Gifts: Marriage, Monasticism and Sexuality according to the Patristic Tradition.

Since 2004, Fr. Josiah has served as Adjunct Professor of History at California Baptist University in Riverside. He participates in yearly academic forums and symposia, conducts numerous parish retreats each year throughout the United States and Canada, and is the founder of Patristic Nectar Publications. He and his presbytera, Catherine, were married in 1988, and from their happy union have been born nine children.

Fr. Josiah serves as an instructor in and on the Board of Advisors of the Saints Cyril & Athanasius of Alexandria Institute for Orthodox Studies in San Francisco.

The King Of Kings (1927 Silent Movie)

Events are not in a chronological order.

Why this movie specifically?!
"There are many Jesus movies, and they are frankly, not the best portrayal of Christ! Including this movie..."
Yes, totally agree.
In no specific order, here are my thoughts:
1- yes, movies are not accurate. They never are. Especially when they "make things interesting" making the Lord Christ say thing He never said.
This is one area this movie excels at. Christ doesn't say anything that's not in the Bible (it's a silent movie so that helps).
Yes, there is also a creative director here imagining how things connect beyond scriptures, but I do think due to the silent nature of this movie, it's as accurate as you can get from the point of view of Christ and his divine words that He gave us when He walked in the flesh among us... Which brings me to my next point
2- I love his movie because of it's portrayal of Christ. He's not some confused human, nor is He a weak man being thrown from one person to the next during his pascha.. He's the Lord Almighty, choosing to be humbled to death, with all strength and might to His last breath. That's the image that the gospels portray to us. See John 18:
Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, “Whom are you seeking?” They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am He.” And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them. Now when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground. Then He asked them again, “Whom are you seeking?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus answered, “I have told you that I am He. Therefore, if you seek Me, let these go their way,” that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, “Of those whom You gave Me I have lost none.”

The strength that was in Him... And the force by which he said, "I am He"... They fell to the ground! The soldiers! That's not some weakling getting ambushed.. that's the Lord of hosts, the Almighty and of all Glory and Power, willingly, and silently, humbling himself under the hands of his own creation...
"He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth" (Isaiah 53:7).
That's my Lord and God.. a Lamb, led to the slaughter for my sake, willingly..
3- I like this movie because of the Love that you'll see in the actor's eyes when he deals with the children, Mary Magdalene, the disciples when they doubt, and how he looks at the soldiers who are mistreating Him to say the least... I encourage you to watch:) no movie is perfect, but this is a good one.. a hint, a very small hint of imagination towards understanding a glimpse of His love towards us 🙂 (see 41:04, for example)
I encourage you to watch and let me know your thoughts! Nothing is perfect, and I'm not a big fan of movies of Christ. I'm with you there. But out of all the movies, if we'll make our children watch one, I think it should be this one.
