The West Chester Railroad traces its roots to the mighty PRR, being located on the railroad's Frazer and Media Branches. Market Street Station served the town until its demolition by Penn Central in 1968, with the line seeing light passenger use by SEPTA until 1986. For the following decade, the line sat abandoned, until a group of rail enthusiasts reinvigorated it. Since then, the mainly volunteer-based railroad has ran excursions to the grove in Glen Mills.

The East Broad Top Railroad was constructed in between 1872 and 1874 with the purpose of hauling iron ore from the furnaces in Rockhill to the Pennsylvania Railroad interchange in Mount Union. As time progressed the focus of the railroad shifted from pig iron production to coal hauling, as the railroad began to service the numerous mines on Broad Top Mountain. The EBT faithfully served these industries for nearly 80 years. Going into the 1950s, coal fell out of favor for gas and oil, leading to the Ol' Eastie's demise, with official closure occurring in 1956. The railroad was purchased by the Kovalchick Salvage Company, but rather than opting to scrap the line, it was made into a tourist attraction. The attraction was extremely popular, running strong for over 50 years, but by 2011, insurance costs resulted in the closure of the line. With an uncertain future, the railroad sat dormant until 2020, when it was purchased by East Broad Top Foundation with the goal of restoring the railroad to its former glory. Being perfectly frozen in time, the East Broad Top remains as a truly special time capsule, preserving a little bit of Americana.
East Broad Top 16 was built in 1916 but the Baldwin Locomotive works and is the first of the "large" 2-8-2 mikados delivered to the EBT. Being equipped with superheaters, piston valves, and southern valve gear, 16 outperformed her earlier counterparts. She served the railroad faithfully up until the end in 1956, being in the middle of an overhaul during its closure. During the tourist era, 16 was evaluated for restoration, but due to her boiler paperwork being destroyed, 14 was ultimately chosen. Fast forward to 2020, 16 was selected for restoration as it was in the best condition of all the other mikados, with work beginning in 2021. On February 1st, 2023, the restoration was complete, with 16 running her own power for the first time in 67 years, marking the beginning of a new era on the EBT.

Reading & Northern #425 is a 4-6-2 pacific type steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive works in 1928 for the Gulf, Mobile & Northern Railroad. She is the first of two G-1 Type locomotives for the GM&N (425 and later scrapped 426). When the locomotives went to the GM&O, they became 580 (425), and 582 (426). After her time there, 425 was owned by several other railroads, including the Louisiana & Eastern, Valley Forge Scenic Railway, Wilmington & Western, and the Blue Mountain & Reading where she ran alongside 2102. The BM&R became RBM&N (R&N for short) in 1990, after the acquisition of 150 miles of track due to the bankruptcy of Conrail. In 1992, 425 was painted into her famous Blue Paint Scheme inspired by Reading Bluebird. From 1996 to 2007 the famed locomotive sat dormant, but by 2008, she returned to regular passenger service. In 2011, 425 was given roller bearings by the Strasburg Railroad, and in 2015, painted to her current blue, a GM&N "Road of Service" inspired paint scheme, completing the look she wears today.

Canadian National 89 is a 2-6-0 Mogul, classified as an E-10-a by the CN. She was built in February 1910 by the Canadian Locomotive Company for the Grand Trunk Railway as number 1009 and by 1919 it was renumbered to 911. In 1923, the Grand Trunk was merged into part of the Canadian National Railway (CN) with 911 being one of many locomotives involved in the merger. In 1951, 911 was renumbered to 89. In 1965, she was sold to the Green Mountain Railroad and was then sold in 1972 to the Strasburg Railroad, where she operates today.

Western Maryland 1309 is a 2-6-6-2 articulated mallet locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works 1949 and is the last steam locomotive constructed by the once mighty builder. Delivered to the Chesapeake & Ohio in the same year, 1309 was immediately pressed into service, pulling long and heavy coal trains up the gruesome mountain grades of West Virginia and Kentucky. After a mere 7 years, 1309 was retired in 1956 being stored until 1972, when she was acquired by the B&O Railroad Museum. In 2014, the WMSR acquired the 1309, but she wouldn't run until New Years Eve 2020, moving under her own power for the first time in 64 years. The project faced numerous setbacks and funding issues, but by the end of 2021, the locomotive was deemed well enough to pull revenue trains.

The Reading 2102 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1923, originally designated as an I-10sa class 2-8-0, 2044. By 1945, the Reading's growing demand for more powerful locomotives was answered, the locomotive was rebuilt into a T-1 class 4-8-4 in their very own shops. The T-1s performed beautifully, hauling coal trains across miles of track and up steep mount grades. This tenure eventually came to an end in 1956, when the Reading ended steam operation. The future was bleak, as 2102 became a steam generator for a steel plant. However, on April 29th, 1962, the locomotive exited an extensive restoration, pulling the Iron Horse Rambles along sister T-1 locomotives. By 1965, the Rambles ended, and 2102 was sold off. Again, she would not sit idle for long, as she ran all across the Northeast. In 1985, 2102 was sold to Andy Muller, owner of the up and coming Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad. 2102 ran for another six years, making her final run on October 27, 1991. While she was moved around here and there, the locomotive sat dormant until January 2016, when it was announced the locomotive would undergo restoration in the Reading, Blue Mountain, and Northern's steam shops. After six years, the locomotive is once again riding the rails of the steel road.

Norfolk & Western 475 is a 4-8-0 "Mastodon" (M Class) type steam locomotive built in 1906 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. Locomotive 475 was in the original order of M Class steam locomotives by the N&W, where she would go on to haul heavy freight and coal trains. Eventually replaced by the N&W's larger engines, 475 found work on branch lines, such as the Virginia Creeper out of Abingdon VA. 475 ran for 50 consecutive years before being retired in 1956 and with an uncertain future, change hands until she wound up at a scrapyard. She was saved from scrap in 1980 and would change hands multiple time again, until eventually winding up at the Strasburg Railroad in 1991. She was restored by 1993 and has been operating ever since.

Black River & Western 60 is a 2-8-0 Consolidation built by the American Locomotive Company in August 1937. 60's original work was in the Great Plains of Colorado, pulling many of the Great Western Railway's sugar beet and molasses trains. Like many other of the GWR's steam locomotives, 60's smokebox was extended during World War II, allowing for more efficient use cheaper grades of coal. By 1963, 60 was purchased by the newly-formed Black River & Western Railroad and by 1965 was again operating. In 2000, 60 was taken out of service. She sat dormant for 12 years, returning to operation in 2012. Since then, 60 has faithfully served the BR&W and is beloved by many.

Pennsylvania Railroad 643 is an 0-6-0 B4a built in 1901 by the railroad's own Juniata Shops. After her 16-year career on the PRR, 643 was sold to the Central Iron and Steel Company in Harrisburg, PA. Over the next 40 years, she would undergo numerous modifications, including getting a larger, slope-back tender and replacement boiler. The H.K. Porter built boiler replaced the PRR's iconic Belpaire and is believed to be larger than the original boiler. In 1961, 643 was purchased by the Williams Grove Historic Steam Engine Association, which she has called home ever since.

The Durango & Silverton's history reaches far back into the 19th century, with the arrival of the Denver & Rio Grande Western in 1881. Within less than a year, the railroad replaced the Old Animas Toll Road to the mining town of Silverton. The Silverton Branch, as it was known, was prosperous until the panic of 1893. The future looked grim into the 1940s, but the rise domestic tourism in the US proved the branch was still a lucrative operation. The D&RGW kept the branch active until they sold the line to Charles Bradshaw in 1979, turning it into the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. In 2018, the railroad faced difficulties with wildfires and mudslides, resulting in the majority of their fleet being converted from coal to oil firing.
The motive power in this video is K-36 482, built in 1925 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. 482 served the Denver & Rio Grande Western from her delivery until her retirement in 1962. She sat idle at the Cumbres & Toltec from 1970 until 1991, when the Durango & Silverton traded her for K-37 497. 482 underwent major rebuilds and returned to service in May 1992. In December 2021, she was converted from coal to oil firing.

The roots of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad can be traced back to the Denver & Rio Grande, with the construction of the San Juan Extension in 1880. Passenger and mail service, logging, mining, and the discovery natural gas caused the railroad to boom from its creation all the way into the 1960s. In 1968, the D&RGW filed for abandonment, but shortly thereafter, the states of Colorado and New Mexico stepped in to preserve 64 miles of the 4th Division between Chama and Antonito. To this day, the tourist attraction is the best preserved portion of the D&RGW narrow gauge with all original structures and the largest collection of narrow gauge rolling stock and locomotives.
The motive power in this video is Cumbres & Toltec 489, a 2-8-2 K-36 class Mikado built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1925. It was retired by the D&RGW in 1962, 489 was delivered to the C&TS in 1970 and returned to excursion service in 1974. In December 2020, 489 underwent a conversion from coal firing to oil firing.

D&SNG 473 was retired in 1967, restored in 1981, running since then. It underwent a coal to oil conversion in May 2021. D&SNG 476 was retired in 1967, restored in 1981, and taken out of service in 1999. It was rebuilt in 2016-2018 and converted to oil burning in June 2022.

The motive power in this video is Cumbres & Toltec 484, a 2-8-2 K-36 class Mikado built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1925. 484 was delivered to the C&TS in 1970 and returned to excursion service in 1983.

Great Smoky Mountains Railroad 1702 is a USATC (United States Army Transportation Corps.) S-160 class consolidation steam locomotive. The stocky 2-8-0 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1942 and intended for export to Europe during the Second World War. Although this was not the case, as 1702 never went overseas, eventually being pressed into service at the Fort Bragg Military Base. She faithfully served the United States until 1961, when she was retired. In 1964, 1702 was sold to the Reader Railroad in Arkansas, where she underwent many cosmetic upgrades, operating until 1972, pulling the last regularly-scheduled mixed train in the US before being put into storage. 1702 would have a stint of operating time at the Fremont & Elkhorn Valley Railroad from 1986 to 1991, when she was purchased by the GSMR. She ran from 1991 to 2004, when she was again put into storage until her most recent restoration, which was from 2012 to 2016. 1702 has been operational since then, pulling both the Tuckasegee River and Nantahala Gorge excursions.

Everett Railroad is a product of ALCo's Cooke Works, classified as a 260-111 class 2-6-0 Mogul. She was built in 1920, with intent of being shipped to Cuba, where she would work in the country's vast fields of sugar cane. Due to fluctuations in the sugar industry following World War I, the little mogul never went to Cuba. She sat unused for three years, until purchased by the Narragansett Pier Railroad, which gave her the number she wears to this day. After a 14 year tenure at the NP, she was purchased by the Bath & Hammondsport Railroad of Western New York. The modest locomotive was retired from the B&H in 1949 and was stored in the railroad's engine house until 1955, when she was purchased for Dr. Stanley A. Groman's “Rail City” museum. The locomotive would exchange hands again, even returning to her home NP rails in Rhode Island. In 2006 she was purchased by Alan Maples of the Everett Railroad, where she resides today. After an extensive restoration, 11 returned to faithfully serve the Everett Railroad, hauling the railroad's many passenger excursions since 2015.

Strasburg 90 is the largest, youngest, and most powerful among Strasburg’s fleet and one of the original Strasburg Engines. She was built in 1924 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and is a one of a kind locomotive. The 96 year old 2-10-0 decapod began her service hauling Sugar Beet Trains and by the 1950s, 90 only saw occasional use. She was then retired in 1967, but given new life by the Strasburg Railroad when they purchased her 1967. She has run ever since, becoming a favorite to train enthusiasts, crews, and photographers alike.
475 ran for 50 consecutive years before being retired in 1956 and with an uncertain future, she would change hands until she wound up at a scrapyard. She was saved from scrap in 1980 and would change hands multiple time again, until eventually winding up at the Strasburg Railroad in 1991. She was restored by 1993 and has been operating ever since.
Canadian National 89 is an 2-6-0 Mogul, classed as an E-10-a by the Canadian National. She was originally built in February 1910 by the Canadian Locomotive Company for the Grand Trunk Railway as number 1009. In 1919 it was renumbered 911. In 1923, the Grand Trunk was merged into the Canadian National Railway (CN) with 911 being one of the thousands of locomotives working for this new railroad. In 1951, 911 was renumbered 89. In 1965, she was sold to the Green Mountain Railroad and was then sold in 1972 to the Strasburg Railroad, where she operates today.

Originally built in 1961, the Rebel Railroad was built as a sister attraction to the well-known Tweetsie Railroad. Through the 1960s and 70s, the attraction would undergo multiple ownership and name changes, eventually acquiring three more steam locomotives. In 1986, Dolly Parton acquired the attraction, rebranding the park and railroad into what we know it as today, Dollywood.
Dollywood Express 192, is a USATC S118 class 2-8-2 narrow gauge mikado, built in 1943 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. Affectionately nicknamed "Klondike Katie," the locomotive originally worked in Alaska, for the Unites States Army Transportation Corps and eventually the White Pass & Yukon. WP&Y 192 has called the Smokies her home since 1961 and has operated trains on the 2.5 mile line ever since.

Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Tweetsie Railroad was opened on July 4th, 1957, with locomotive 12 pulling Wild-West Themed trains. The name "Tweetsie" is derived from the original ET&WNC, where the nickname was earned due to the sound of the locomotive whistles. In 1960, the park obtained their second steam locomotive, WP&YR 190.
White Pass & Yukon [Tweetsie] 190 is a USATC S-118 Class steam locomotive, built by Baldwin in 1943 for the United States Army Transportation Corps. 190 served the USATC and WP&YR faithfully until her retirement in 1960, where she would promptly again be pressed into service at the Tweetsie Railroad alongside sister 192, which is now at Dollywood. Upon her arrival at the park, 190 underwent some cosmetic upgrades in order to more closely resemble ET&WNC 12. 190 has operated at the park ever since. The whistle on 190 is her original Crosby 3 chime from when she began operation in 1960.

Since then, 60 has faithfully served the BR&W and is beloved by many.

Southern #630 is a February 1904 product of ALCo classified as a Ks class 2-8-0 Consolidation. During her time of construction 630 was equipped with Stephenson's Valve gear, but then was upgraded to Southern Valve Gear, which she still has to this day. Throughout the years, 630 received more upgrades including a superheated boiler. 630 had faithfully served the Souther up until her retirement in 1954. 630 would see new life at the ET&WNC where she ran along stablemate 722. In 1967 she would return to the Southern to partake in their steam program. Since then, 630 has pulled many passengers. In 1989, 630 was put out of service and displayed in Asheville, NC until 1999, when she was donated to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, where she would see new excursion life beginning in 2011.

425 traveled to many other railroads, such as the Louisiana & Eastern, Valley Forge Scenic Railway, Wilmington & Western, and the Blue Mountain & Reading where she ran alongside 2102. Now, the BM&R is the RBM&N, or R&N for short, which acquired many miles of track when Conrail went out of business. In 1992, 425 was painted in her famous Blue Paint Scheme in honor of the Reading Bluebird. From 1996 to 2007 the famous locomotive sat dormant. In 2008, she returned to regular passenger service. In 2011 425 was given roller bearings by the Strasburg Railroad, and in 2015, painted to her current blue, a GM&N "Road of Service" inspired paint scheme, becoming the Pennsylvania resident we know today.

Norfolk & Western 611 is a 4-8-4 J-Class Locomotive and a product of the N&W Roanoke shops. She faithfully served the N&W from her construction in 1950 to her retirement in 1959. 611 is the sole survivor of the famed N&W J-Class, on part of a successful reconstruction after a 1956 wreck. In July of 1982, 611 was fired up for the first time in her excursion life, seeing many more years of service in this second life. After another 12 years of faithful service, 611 was put on display, with an uncertain future in excursion service. In 2013, Fire-Up 611! was formed and the by 2015 locomotive would breathe yet again, operating for the first time in 21 years.
