uhh you may have noticed that I don't upload that consistently anymore. but not that that slowed down you gorgeous subscribers we're almost at 5k subs i'm shaking where did you guys come from??? my last upload was like a month ago and blah blah blah but point is that something is wrong with me lmao I've lost interest in stuff I used to do all the time, like doing art and vocaloid and even playing this one game I love. I sort of didn't do much art for like months and then fucking changed around my entire art style and now I don't know where to go- I'm getting back into vocaloid so that's good, I'm not stopping anytime soon so don't worry. but I've been super emotional and paranoid and kind of depressed and I have these weird back-and-forth mood swings and this has been happening for a few months now and motivation is a thing that's been lacking. it's weird cuz i feel like i'm going back to my 6th grade rebellion phase and I'm even listening to hard rock and grunge again but at the same time I feel like a different person?? I'm still finding myself don't worry about me though, I have a bunch of friends and I'm gonna be okay I just gotta get back into things. at the end of the day, I'm lucky to be where I am so it's gonna be fine ^^

『darlynn ft. GUMI』 Cassius 『VOCALOID Original』

darlynn 2020-07-26 | hi!! here's a character song about one of my original characters (duh), cassius (double duh). the lyrics pretty much speak for themselves, but tl;dr cassius is hitman/vampire hunter who was molded into a killer from childhood by this "underground" company that works like a series of contract killers in a world where vampires exist (illegally) among humans. cassius suffers from identity problems and unhealed trauma from his "training" and, of course, being taken from his parents after they were killed by one of the hitmen. his "killer" identity breaks apart over time as he is simultaneously meant to function in the real world, and kidnaps a vampire who tried to kill him but convinces him to let him live with him and eventually falls in love with him (Carbon). ironically, one of the "monsters" he was told to both fear and obliterate taught him how to become human. and yes, there is a happy ending.

(lmk if you have any questions or interpretations on the story! I intended it to one day become a webcomic, but not anytime soon at this rate lol)

I intentionally went with a minimalistic PV that looks like a rough draft more than anything lol I kinda like it that way,, may or may not do that again though, I just needed a break after poison lmao

I had trouble with getting the tempo right so I decided to borrow null's vsqx, I also hoped it would ease me back into doing covers lmaoo,, so it's here!! this was a request and I totally forgot this song existed whwhwh like I wrote lyrics for it a long time ago but I never worked on a cover at all, though I thought I did,, so I revamped the lyrics and during that I decided to investigate into the song's meaning because,, this song had always felt different to me from maretu's other songs. i had no idea why, maybe i felt it sounded influenced by something else (AHEM a specific character) or it just seemed like a different vibe because i could NEVER figure out the meaning of this song!! the verses, especially the very first lines, are so freaking vague and disconnected and so my first set of lyrics were jumbled bc i didn't understand it at all so if they still sound a lil jumbled that's why uwu but anyways i had an aha moment when i found out that this song is the main theme of a character named Luciano from a game called nnd compass!! he's an assassin with a dead wife who's coffin he carries on his back!! how epic I love him!! so keeping this in mind while still partially staying true to the original lyrics, i interpreted the song as him talking to himself and basically setting goals for himself to keep on going after his wife's death (hence why the english title is monologue or soliloquy). i also had his wife sing a bit too for the heck of it :p I just wanted to draw her she's so pretty wuuwuwe

darlynn 2020-07-01 | hi!! as teased, here's the speedpaint!! I talk a little about the piece in the intro of the video, but overall it took about 5 hours to draw in FireAlpaca and you can see my full process of Ctrl Z and being unsure about colors lol. well, almost full. I typed out at the start of recording that I started with the lineart bc I already made the sketch before getting the idea to record the project. adding onto that, I'll do the same for future speedpaints because I have many many many unfinished or abandoned sketches, and they usually take a while to plan out too, so I'd rather start recording when I know I'm gonna finish a piece at all. though I do like watching speedpaints that start from the sketch and record it all unfold, my brain can't handle doing that whoop :')

so funny story,, this entire song came from an idea spurred by my chem teacher last year!! he was really cool and funny and he made fun of us often. sometimes he'd just sing random songs he created on the spot to get us paying attention. one of his songs was him narrating the mind of this other student who didn't pay attention much, where he said something about counting the holes in the ceiling and I thought that was oddly artistic and took that concept and ran. so thanks mr. belizar u a real homie 😔👊

uh I decided to use throw in some italian just cuz,, I think it's a really pretty language and it's close to home for me because part of my family is VERY italian lolololol anyways I triple checked p much every word/phrase I used on a lot of sites or dictionaries so I hope I got everything right 🥺🥺

but the actual character of this song is supposed to be this passive, sleepy-kinda person who uses sleep to escape from their troubles, but they get a nightmare and decide they never wanna sleep again. it was cute in the beginning but started getting a little somber as I worked on more of the lyrics lol oops

so this song is pretty repetitive but it's nice to listen to once in a while for me uwu I really like how vague the lyrics are, and how the PV doesn't reveal much to a deeper meaning, so it can be interpreted in so many different ways. for me, I feel like it's about Mayu getting caught up in some kind of crime(?) which she either directly took part in or witnessed. and from then on, she had to keep it a secret, so she keeps repeating "I don't wanna know," "I don't wanna say," etc. to try to block out the memory I guess. and in that bridge part, I'm supposing she lost friends and peers due to the anxiety of the situation kind of affecting her at all times. except maybe one, but that could just be her breaking the fourth wall like "why are you interested/why are you still listening? I don't want to be involved, why do you?" and then at the end she dies. I'm assuming this is due to being cornered once it's out that she was involved. or it could be suicide. idk. very vague but interesting to think abt :P

ok ok if y'all don't know I'm a LITTLE bit of a musical fanatic lmaoo and I started doing drama last year and my love for musicals got recently revived!! sooo I was original trying out two other Heathers songs but umm timing them is hard lmao so I finished this one first!! I chose to use Miku bc I love all of her voicebanks and I wanted that variety throughout the song,, and it's a really short one so I got to pay attention to more details like fixing her engrish up, messing w/ breathiness, brightness, etc.. focusing on all that makes her sound more realistic, so I was happy to get into it uwu

HOWEVER,,, if I were to conceptualize my own Heathers/Vocaloid crossover, Miku probably wouldn't be Macnamara. I just love how her blue hair and the yellow clothes collide, but Macnamara would probably be Rin. I liked sort of experimenting and making the song a little "louder" than it is originally. and I also had fun with the art in this, I did it in a completely different way from all my other art but it turned out p good!! so heck yeah this was a win win!!

I saw one that was like "omg this song makes me so evil like it possesses me...." and one that was like "I actually LIKE being depressed" like?? no, no, you're not depressed then!!! I mean they're young, it's their edgy phase, they can like whatever the heck they want to!! hell yeah go listen to all the edgy shit!! I love that shit too!! but I guess people forget that this is just music made by people just like you & me. it's not,,, evil or magical or above all. and also depression is NOT a personality trait nor is it a positive one. it's not "cool" to be depressed or "crazy," coming from a family with a LOAD of mental illness and unwellness. I guess that's where my biggest problem with seeing comments like that are. I feel like having a large majority of people (because MANY people listen to eilish and are also young) saying "this cures depression" or "i like being depressed" or "im so crazy/evil" is harmful to other young people who then think those things are okay to support. it's just misinformation and it causes people to not take real illness as seriously as they should.

if you're truly ill and in need of help, you should talk with your loved ones, or a therapist, and start making a recovery plan. you can do whatever you must to cope as long as it doesn't harm anyone. especially listening to music you adore!!! but spreading an idea of "loving depression" or "loving being crazy" is demeaning and it's not helping anyone. and I don't wanna sound mean hwhwhw but I believe that's true. mental illness shouldn't be idolized whatsoever.

I def like using all the standard coloring and shading/lighting for these even if it takes a lot of time!! the set motions in powerdirector are sucky to transform so I liked focusing on the art more uwu
