Raising Monarchs - Milkweed Categories (Help The Monarch Butterfly) MrLundScience 2020-07-14 | In thinking about some of the issues that I've heard come up recently, I realized that many of us use milkweed in different ways and for different reasons. I'm not exactly sure how you think about your milkweed resources, and I trust that there's multiple successful ways to go about it. In some cases/comments I've heard or directly read about, I know that some issues that come up, I never myself have encountered. Beyond that, I realized too that with the way I think about milkweed in certain categories, I would not be able to encounter some of these issues. Typically, these issues fall into the food shortage situation. I thought for some, it may be helpful if I discussed how I look at milkweed, what categories I put various sources of it in my head, and how I use those categories. I thought this fast to learn tactic would be a good way to start off a season where milkweed will be given more of a focus. Conspiracy theorists and their potty-mouths are why we can't have nice things...such as a comments section on this video.Originally performed in 1797 by Henry Cavendish, the Cavendish Experiment was the first method for measuring the gravitational constant, G, which reflects the strength of gravitational force. In modern times, though, the Cavendish Experiment, when performed carefully enough, can qualitatively show the attractive force of gravity between objects. Because gravity is such a weak force, and because the strength of the force is increased by larger masses and closer distances, high density materials are ideal. Having been inspired by other classroom Cavendish Experiment demonstrations, I chose to try my hand at this knowing that I had access to lead bricks. Raising Monarchs - Side J-Hang Relocation (Help The Monarch Butterfly) MrLundScience 2019-08-12 | There can be times where a Monarch caterpillar chooses to J-hang in a less than optimal location. This can cause a bit of concern if that position may result in the chrysalis not forming into the correct shape. If a Monarch caterpillar chooses to J-hang from the side of a wall or other vertical surface, it's possible that the side of the chrysalis nearest that surface may have a flat side when it dries and hardens. Flat areas, or really any abnormal shape of the chrysalis can lead to developmental deformities, particularly wing deformities. While it's not a guarantee that things will go wrong, side J-hangers can cause us concern.
