Happy World Taichi and Qigong day! Here's a little explanation you might find interesting. I filmed this with Commune -- check out my course on the 8 Brocades for FREE! Link above. Have a great day.
Many often ask me, what the difference is between taichi and qigong, so I thought this might be a useful video, especially on a day like today.
Taichi is a martial art — it’s one of three main internal martial arts in China. The ‘chi’ of taichi is actually pronounced ‘ji 極’ — and is different than the ‘qi 氣‘ in ‘qigong’. Ji means polarity, and qi means life energy. It's a bit confusing!
As an internal martial art, taichi is a practice that has martial applications, but also gives equal emphasis and focus to the health and longevity of our bodies, as well as to meditation and spiritual development. Qigong is a broad term that can include internal martial arts practices, but it’s primarily being practiced as a medical practice that supports people’s wellbeing.
Happy World Taichi and Qigong day everyone! Keep your practices nourishing to your body, mind and spirit.

In the words of Leo Tolstoy, 'Spring is the time of projects and plans.' In the spring, we climb out of the cold, winter months and often feel ready to take on life with renewed vigor. If, however, we're unprepared for it, the outburst of energy can sometimes knock us off balance and be a shock – like we just want to crawl back under a warm duvet! This workshop will explore ways to align with the energy of spring using qigong practices focusing on the element of wood, associated in Chinese medicine with spring, growth, resourcefulness, flexibility and vision. It will also incorporate gentle yoga and somatic movement principles that focus on the health of our tendons, which is the tissue associated with wood.
In this workshop we'll explore:
• Wood phase tendencies for balance and imbalance.
• Flexibility and what it means in movement.
• Qigong practices for the liver and gall bladder – organs that associate in Chinese medicine with rhythm, dreams, visions, and plans.
About Daoist Flow: Daoist Flow explores the interconnectedness of yoga, qigong, somatics and natural movement with the underlying intention to touch in on our innate qualities of compassion and inner joy. It begins from the idea that everything is part of the whole, a belief found within Yogic, Buddhist and Daoist traditions. Aligning with this wholeness enables us to discover our full potential and inherent wisdom, fluidity and ease within ourselves.
Open to all levels of practitioners.

Originally taught in March and April of 2021 as livestream Zoom classes, they explore a combination of dynamic yoga and qigong sequences that include forms and asanas such as crane, eagle, dragon, deer and more. Taught through a framework of somatic-based movement and mindful awareness, the practices will leave you strengthened and energised. Though the theme is centred on spring, the classes can be practiced any time of year as a way to help you cultivate strength, flexibility and focus.

This series of 5 classes focuses on the Primordial Qigong series.
Originally taught on Zoom in March 2021, these practice consists of 12 gentle, moving meditations that are open and accessible to all levels of practitioners.
Based on the teachings of Feng Zhiqiang, each of the 12 forms helps us embody the principles of unity and differentiation, or the primordial states of oneness that give rise to the differentiation and movement between yin and yang. This is a subtle yet powerful healing practice with roots in Daoist philosophy.

My first release is Qigong for the Seasons: Winter
Winter is associated with the Water element. The Water element is about stillness, inner strength and conserving and storing energy, like a hibernating bear. In the winter months, qi flow is more easily affected in Water organs and meridians kidneys and urinary bladder, which affect how we use energy, regulate our temperatures, and manage our stress levels. This practice can be done any time of year but is particularly powerful in the winter months. It will help you replenish your energy reserves, and develop the soft, nourishing, humble strength of water.

These classes share a beautiful series of practices that are known as The Art of Residing in Radiance, or Zhu Yang Shu (住颜术). Each class starts with a short talk followed by the breathing practice of the Three Stars of the Lower Dantian, gentle warmups, and standing meditation. We then explore the main practice of the Art of Residing in Radiance, which includes Gathering Yang (Cai Yang) and Micro and Macrocosmic Orbit (Xiao Zhou Tian, Da Zhou Tian). As a powerful energy practice, these movements can positively affect our healthy by either moving stagnant qi or slowing down what may be erratic in seemingly gentle ways. As always, themes are offered as ways to help us experience and learn to embody the philosophical concepts underpinning qigong. Suitable for all levels.

Originally taught on Zoom in June and July, 2021, each week builds on the previous week, with different focuses and themes.
Regular practice of the Five Animal Frolics can support associated qualities of each animal such as breathing and lightness of the crane; inner focus and rootedness of the bear; openness and agility of the money; subtlety and patience of the deer; and the awareness and strength of the tiger. The effect can have a positive impact on the body's muscles, joints and your overall mental focus and calm.

The course covers the Muscle Tendon Changing Classics, or Yi Jing Jing. These practices do as advertised – strengthen and change our muscles and tendons, making them stronger and more supple. They also work to support our bone density, immunity and overall mental and emotional health. The forms have goofy names, too, such as 'Turning Nine Cows Around by Their Tails', which makes them all the more fun to practice.
In each session, we break down each of the 12 forms that comprise this practice. By the end, you will have a practice that you can continue to refine on your own!
Open to all levels.

This is a recorded livestream class that I thought I'd share on YouTube that has as a focus finding our shared humanity, connection and joy.
It includes my approach to the Taiji Qigong 18 Forms and ends with a practice of etheric cleansing and Embrace, or Opening the Qi through the 24 Moveable Vertebrae -- a practice that can be helpful when feeling anxious as it relieves head-wind (toufeng).
As this class is given here freely, I hope it can be of support to you. In the spirit of dana, or generosity, I also deeply appreciate any offering or support you can provide. Suggested donations are £5-10 per class. These can be made by PayPal at paypal.me/mimizoomclasses or Venmo at @Miranda-Kuo-Deemer.

I hope these classes can be a way to support you in creating or continuing a home practice during this time. The theme of this class was based on a message from the Hopi indigenous tribe. Hopi means "people of peace", and in Chinese, heping (和平) means peace. I grew up in Arizona, where the Hopi are still based today. When I saw this message decided to share it. Qigong Flow is one of three new DVDs I’ve released through New Shoot. The form in the clip is called ‘lifting ball’, and is one of the 18 forms, or Shibashi. New Shoot chose some incredible locations for the filming; this one is by a river in West Sussex. I love that some ducks decided to take a swim through the river right as I was doing this series #ducksthatphotobomb 🦆
This form particularly benefits the kidneys. It is also believed to lift and energise the spirits. When practising this form, we are invited to foster a sense of playfulness and ease, sort of the way a happy, carefree child can feel free and full of possibility.
Qigong is a movement art form that I absolutely love. It, along with my daily yoga and meditation practices, helps me stay more grounded and connected not only to my body but also to the elements of the natural world. It often uses imagery drawn from nature such as clouds, lakes, the moon, sea or sky. Many also reference animals — like the crane, dragon, tiger or deer.
While many yoga postures work to actively stretch and strengthen the body, qigong forms operate at a more subtle level of energy and intention. It is in their subtlety, however, that their strength and power can be found.

I hope these videos can become useful resources for home practice!

http://www.triyoga.co.uk/30-days-of-yoga
This is a short teaser video about an exciting month of yoga and ayurveda starting November 1, 2015 at triyoga, London. Jean Hall and I have curated a month long programme based upon Ayurveda – an ancient healing system from Indian culture that works in a highly complimentary way with yoga and, working with your dosha, can bring greater health and well-being to your life. Are you Kapha, Pitta, Vata or Tridosha? You'll soon find out and discover what yoga, diet and lifestyle choices pacify your constitution.
Week one: Kapha – open to stability
Week two: Vata – open to movement
Week three - Pitta – open to transformation
Week four - Tridosha – open to balance
What to Expect Each Week + The Aim
The aim is to cultivate a daily yoga practice whilst exploring the realms of each Ayurvedic dosha. It's an opportunity to explore different styles of yoga – maybe yin yoga if you regularly practice ashtanga, or vinyasa flow if your go-to is restorative yoga. You'll receive communications each week in your inbox with information and contemplations to help guide you.
The 30 Days of Yoga is a personal journey that will lead you to a new level in your yoga practice and overall feeling of health and vitality. Now is the time...

Workshop descriptions:
This weekend of workshops led by Mimi Kuo-Deemer and Margi Young will take you into a combined journey of refined vinyasa and deep restorative – an amalgam that can generate a blissful state of yogic insight. Each workshop will offer innovative sequences, both in restorative and vinyasa, and take you through methods that are safe, clear and work and move you into the heightened consciousness that is yoga. Margi and Mimi’s joint, signature teaching style is known for exploring yogic philosophy through the asana practice, weaving in the richness of an ancient tradition and understanding the ways it can relate to our contemporary lives. For those newer to yoga as well as yoga teachers, this weekend will be sure to deepen your understanding of the practice intellectually and physically. Workshops can be taken individually, but we recommend at least one day where you combine both vinyasa and restorative to fully feel the benefits of this approach.
