Andreas MEver since "The Last Messiah" (Den Siste Messias) was translated and released in Philosophy Now in 2004, and later popularized by Thomas Ligotti through his book The Conspiracy Against the Human Race (2010), there have been numerous requests for a translation of Peter Wessel Zapffe's main philosophical work, Om Det Tragiske (On The Tragic). It took Ryan L. Showler years to translate this dense and lengthy book by Zapffe, making it a remarkable achievement. Now, for the first time, it is available to read in English.
This video is a promotion for the release of the English translation of On The Tragic.
Video made with the helpful assistance of Ryan L. Showler. Tablebook pictures taken by Tim Oseckas. Music composed by Andrew McIntosh.

The video has ended up as a kind of documentary in its own right though. His initital video was made as a request by me for him to comment on the concept of Depressive Realism, and he has made quite a few critical videos since then about it. Check out his channel.
Also a big thanks to Colin Feltham for a lot of the inspiration to the video and the topic. Check out his upcoming book "Keeping Ourselves In The Dark", largely about this topic. Its out in 2014 on Nine Banded Books, I believe.
The clips in the videos are used for educational reasons and therefore goes under FAIR USE, also there's also only used extracts so they do not replace the experience of watching the clips in their own full length.

Also an honest attempt to fill up everyone's cup of tea with existential angst. Oh, I had fun at least.
Anekantavad made three videos about Zapffe, in his Antinatalism and Depression-series.
