Single Channel Song on an M8 Tracker Disposable Planet 2023-07-13 | "1 Track Mind", a jazzy and wacky, off-kilter song of mine from two years ago, playing back on my M8 Tracker hooked up to a small Korg oscilloscope kit. The entire song was composed in a single stereo channel using some drum samples, some M8 wavsynths, and some onboard M8 resampling and FX commands like STA, PVX, and stutter tables to create a turntable effect later in the tune. I just got this fun little oscilloscope kit and after I assembled it I wanted to check out this song in particular pumping through it as the M8's channels are monotimbral and only one stereo sound at a time is playing at any given moment during the song. It's not chiptune. It's not even tracker music. Just a small collection of cute, chill, and/or minimalistic tunes I made entirely on an OP-1, and which were inspired by nostalgia for vibes from late 90s/early 00s-era synth music, ambient instrumentals, VGM, and other various genres from that time. Some of them were weeklybeats from earlier in the year. WeeklyBeats WEEK 21 - Rooftops - M8 Tracker Disposable Planet 2022-05-30 | Needed a chill down from weeks of making frenetic beats. This is the result. Made on an M8 Tracker. Chords pads are FMsynth in one channel using MOD commands to vary the chords and notes of the highest voice. Piano is programmed on two channels from that 88-slice megasample floating around the M8 discord resources channel (thanks to LLTH). Vocals are one shots, drums are samples. Bass is triple triangle macrosynth. Beat chopping, tape, juggling and scratching effects done with copious abuse of the the STA, PVX, THO, and PBN commands with stuttering done in tables.
WeeklyBeats WEEK 20 - Exolinguistic - M8 Tracker Disposable Planet 2022-05-23 | Some jungle/dnb this week. Being goofy. Background pads are the wav paraphonic macrosynth. Drums are all samples and breaks layered over. Little details here and there that show up for a few bars and warp off into the void. Piano chord is a tweaked sample from a stock sample kit from a DAW. Bass is a simple FM patch being keyframed by mod commands in phrase. That lead riff that comes in is deep fried with POST:AD filter. Went to a very dissonant place this week. Alien is a picture of a halloween mask I found online. Or is it? The truth is out there.
WeeklyBeats WEEK 19 - City of Air - M8 Tracker Disposable Planet 2022-05-16 | Back in the groove. Everything is synths but a few of the drum instruments. This song was sort of like a purging of my unconscious mind in a way because I noticed the lead instrument timbre, melody, and parts of the progression remind me A LOT of two songs. The first is Swivel by Hiroki Kikuta (off of the Seiken Densetsu 3: Trials of Mana OST), and the second is Micawber's Moan by Random (off of the legendary Bad Joke EP, on of my all time faves). I have to give credit to them because the similarities are there in timbre and tonal color to the first and in vibe and progression to the second. Both must have been rattling around somewhere in the back of my head when I wrote this.
WeeklyBeats WEEK 18 - Mammoth on Main Street - M8 Tracker Disposable Planet 2022-05-09 | This week was a battle to get something done in time so the result is kind of all over the place, sort of like a large specimen of extinct megafauna lumbering drunkenly down the center street of a town banging into shops and causing all sorts of property damage. WeeklyBeats WEEK 17 - Dystopiatown - M8 Tracker Disposable Planet 2022-05-02 | I decided I was not finished tweaking the instruments i made for weeks 8 and 16 so here is a companion song to a companion song. Couldn't think of a better name so its named after last weeks'. Everything is a synth except the main (third) kick and the open hat (i'm pretty sure). Snare is based on an excellent synth snare from tobokegao's M8 pack.
WeeklyBeats WEEK 16 - Utopiatown - M8 Tracker Disposable Planet 2022-04-25 | Started with some saved instruments from my Week 8 track and modified them just enough to be different but still similar enough to make it sound like a companion to that previous track. A bunch of FMsynths and a wavsynth lead with some macrosynth details here and there. Channel 1 is the pads, Channel 2-4 are the pseudo delay. Chan 5 is lead. Chan 6 is bass. Drums on 7 and 8. Kick starts out as a synth and then becomes a sample. Thanks to tobokegao for the initial patch the snare is based on (from the M8 pack). Had fun making this one.On a side note, I just released an EP of three finalized LSDJ tunes from weeklybeats 2022, along with a fourth previously unreleased LSDJ track.
