No Way Out -The OODA Loop and Flow Podcast
Ingressing Minds: Precognition, Non-Speakers, & Where Orientation Comes From | Dr. Julia Mossbridge
updated
Mossbridge is a cognitive neuroscientist who studies precognition and telepathy, works with the Telepathy Tapes team, and recently appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience. In this clip she takes on the question that ends every conversation about DMT entities, remote viewing, and NHI: but is it real?
Michael Levin's new work on "ingressing minds" argues the physical world is not causally closed. Andrew Gallimore argues DMT opens a channel to a genuinely external world. John Boyd called it Outside Information.

In September 1978 the Grateful Dead played three nights at the Great Pyramid, the last under a lunar eclipse. Green threads it into the larger argument of the episode. Pattern, music, and the idea that we are one.

Alan W. Green argues the past is gone, the future has not happened, and the only moment anyone can act in is now. This is a short piece of a much longer conversation about the codes he reads in the Declaration of Independence.

No Way Out (@NoWayOutcast) is hosted by retired U.S. Navy Captain Brian "Ponch" Rivera (@PonchAGLX) and Marine officer Mark McGrath (@NoWayOutMoose) — co-founders of AGLX, the global consulting group that puts John R. Boyd's corpus to work in Wall Street firms, elite sports organizations, and high-performance teams worldwide.
On the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Alan W. Green returns to No Way Out with a claim most people resist: the founding document is encoded. Host Brian "Ponch" Rivera and co-host Bart Bartelloni put 22 years of his work under the lens the show runs on. Orientation. Outside information. Destruction and creation.
The evidence Green lays out is concrete and countable. 6,771 characters, the mirror of 1776. A grid 111 wide. The Earth to Moon distance divided by that number, arriving at the speed of light. Two "mistakes" that map to the Great Seal, the golden ratio, and a triangle whose perimeter equals its area.
The show is not asserting the codes are real. It is testing them the way it tests everything: does this help a person see more accurately, update faster, and act more freely. We connect it to Michael Levin's platonic space and Karl Friston's active inference. Ponch connects it to Boyd, the Fourth Turning, and the difference between truth and the facts. Bart connects it to what an oath actually meant.
New here? Start with orientation. Boyd's real OODA is not a four step drill. It is a nonlinear system where orientation shapes what you can even observe. That claim is the whole show.

No Way Out (@NoWayOutcast) is hosted by retired U.S. Navy Captain Brian "Ponch" Rivera (@PonchAGLX) and Marine officer Mark McGrath (@NoWayOutMoose) . AGLX, the global consulting group that puts John R. Boyd's corpus to work in Wall Street firms, elite sports organizations, and high-performance teams worldwide.
Cynthia Fluck (Naval Academy '98, Naval Aviator, physics degree, functional medicine practitioner) joins Ponch Rivera to explore the gap between what conventional healthcare measures and what the body actually needs. What emerges is a systems thinking argument about why "normal" ranges aren't optimal, why the brain doesn't process linear time (and what that means for trauma), and why the human body — like any complex adaptive system — can't be treated with a one-size-fits-all model.
They also get into: breathing as a high-performance tool for pilots and pro athletes, the vagus nerve as the body's feedback loop, nervous system regulation under stress, and why the first step in truly healing something is destroying the mental model that stopped you from seeing the root cause.
Boyd would have recognized all of it.

Richard Brennan is a trend follower, complex adaptive systems researcher, and author of The Fractals of Finance and Complex Adaptive Markets. He is a strategy ambassador at East Coast Capital Management in Sydney and co-author of the Aussie Turtles Trend Following Guide, both with forewords by Jerry Parker, who introduced Rich to the show. He joins Mark McGrath and Brian "Ponch" Rivera on No Way Out for a conversation about why the market cannot be predicted, why it can be aligned with, and what that has to do with John Boyd, Karl Friston, and the free energy principle.
Rich came to this the hard way. Trained as a geologist, then through business, he started his investing career adopting the predictive value-investing model economics told him to use. It produced wins and then inevitable, significant setbacks. The science background would not let the assumptions go unchallenged. When he studied the validated track records of trend followers, a wide class of sustainable success rather than a handful of celebrated names, he found they were doing something different. They were not predicting the market. They were aligning with it.
The conversation goes deep on what that alignment actually is. Price as the collective experience of every participant, the consensus structure that no single vantage can see from inside. The market as a reflexive complex adaptive system that responds to the very forces the participants impress into it. Why calm environments are dangerous, how the loss of diversity and the concentration of leveraged strategies builds hidden fragility, and why change in these systems does not arrive gradually but as a nonlinear phase transition. Fat tails, power laws, and why a handful of events in the tails dominate everything. Why volatility is not risk, and risk is the permanent loss of capital.
Ponch and Mark bring Boyd's work alongside Rich's, and the convergence becomes the conversation. What Rich calls aligning with price, Boyd called orientation. What Rich describes as minimizing the error between his path and price's path, Karl Friston formalized as the free energy principle, which Rich cites directly in his own work. The inside-out perspective, the path dependency of a living system that must stay within its constraints to survive, the idea that there are no things, only processes.

No Way Out (@NoWayOutcast) is hosted by retired U.S. Navy Captain Brian "Ponch" Rivera and Marine officer Mark McGrath — co-founders of AGLX, the global consulting group that puts John R. Boyd's corpus to work in Wall Street firms, elite sports organizations, and high-performance teams worldwide.
Shawn Myszka, founder of Emergence and co-author of Enhancing Skill in American Football, joins Mark McGrath and Brian "Ponch" Rivera on No Way Out to walk through why the dominant model of NFL skill development is failing and what the constraints-led approach offers as the alternative.
Shawn opens with the story of the third-year NFL veteran who came to him in 2008 with combine numbers that had collapsed against his draft year. The instinct was to chase the metrics, and they did. Vertical jump up seven and a half inches. Broad jump up fourteen and a half. Forty time down a quarter of a second. Numbers that would dominate any draft class. The player returned to his team in July expecting to take the league by storm. Instead, an average season. That was the moment Shawn realized the physical metrics were not the variable that mattered. The variable was perception, cognition, and action operating as an integrated system inside a contextual environment that the combine cannot simulate.
The conversation moves from that origin story into the deeper framework. Why the OODA loop's perception-cognition-action coupling is the actual mechanism underneath skill. Why practice that drills isolated movement patterns produces players who execute when the situation is the situation they trained for and collapse when it is not. Why the constraints-led approach builds adaptive players by designing practice environments where the affordance landscape forces read-and-react rather than rehearsal.
Shawn walks through a specific example from his NFL work. The tight end who was missing tackles on punt coverage. Film study revealed the player had almost no practice exposure to that specific contextual problem. The fix was not more reps of generic tackling drills. The fix was to recreate the actual game-day affordance landscape under fatigue, with realistic uncertainty about who would block him, where the returner would go, and what the surface and weather would be doing. The principle holds across every position on every roster.
Mark and Ponch bring the OODA framework alongside Shawn's constraints-led approach and the convergence becomes the conversation. Coach the player, not the method. The context shapes the content. Skill is not stored in the brain. Skill is the adaptive functional relationship between the agent and the environment.
The episode closes with where this goes next. Why AI is going to play a massive role in modern player development. Why football has to move from alignment, everyone running the called play, to harmony, eleven players whose shared generative model lets the unit adapt when the play breaks. Why the shift from second-generation attrition football to third, fourth, and fifth generation cognitive football is the strategic frontier the NFL has not yet built around.

Adam Karaoguz spent years in Naval Special Warfare. Naval Postgraduate School graduate. Story Grid alum. Author of the novel The Infernal Tower. Writes the Renaissance Human Substack. He came on No Way Out to walk through the framework he has been building for a decade and the personal work behind it.
The conversation moves between the technical and the deeply personal. Adam's master's thesis at Naval Postgraduate School on ground force commander decision making led him directly to Boyd. From there he spent years working through Iain McGilchrist on attention and the divided brain, John Vervaeke on relevance realization, Gary Klein on recognition-primed decision making, and the storytelling structure Sean Coyne and Steven Pressfield teach. The A-Frame is what came out of that synthesis. It is not a replacement for the OODA loop. It is an attempt to recover the ontological layer underneath it, the one Boyd called variety, harmony, rapidity, and initiative.
Adam also walks through his ibogaine treatment in Tijuana at Ambio, the same clinic where Slider now works. He talks about what the medicine did, what it could not do, and why the integration work after the experience matters more than the experience itself.

Boyd's corpus to work in Wall Street firms, elite sports organizations, and high-performance teams worldwide.
The episode builds the framework piece by piece: the environment and its irreducible features (entropy, ambiguity, novelty), the Markov blanket as the boundary that defines a self, sensory and active states, the generative model Boyd called Orientation, and the two pathways, implicit guidance and control, that Boyd drew but few have ever explained. Friston then formalizes what Wall Street already intuits: risk as a KL divergence between prior preferences and predicted outcomes, ambiguity as volatility, and expected free energy as the formal mathematics of risk management under uncertainty.
This is the episode the show has been building toward for 160+ conversations. It connects Boyd’s framework to active inference, predictive coding, the Bayesian brain, perceptual control theory, ecological psychology, the Constructal Law, the REBUS model and psychedelic-assisted therapy, flow states, McLuhan’s media theory, and the limits of large language models as agentic AI. It also names the gap: most current AI does not encode uncertainty, cannot plan over counterfactual futures, and therefore cannot orient. The path forward is biomimetic, and it looks far more like Boyd’s sketch than like anything currently dominating the market.

Robert Gallery was the second overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft and played offensive line for the Oakland Raiders for eight years. By 2019, twenty years of head trauma had left him in a daily fog of rage, brain fog, and alcohol, unable to tell his wife he didn't think he could keep living. He had the brain scan. He had the neurologist. He had the hyperbaric chambers and the infusions. None of it touched what was happening.
Then he heard veterans talking about ibogaine. And everything changed.
In this episode, Brian "Ponch" Rivera and Mark "Moose" McGrath sit with Gallery and Mark "Slider" Keller — who facilitates ibogaine treatment groups at in Tijuana and has personally supported over 400 veterans through the process — for a conversation about what reorientation actually looks like from the inside.
They cover the parallel cultures of high-performance sport and military aviation: the alcohol, the identity loss after the uniform comes off, the years of grinding past brain damage because no one cares that you're seeing stars. They talk about flow states — what Gallery describes as "when the chaos slows down" on the line at game speed — and why that state, once lost, becomes what you spend the next decade trying to find again. And they go deep on ibogaine: what it does inside those ten hours on the floor in Mexico, why Slider calls it a neurogenic with psychedelic side effects rather than a psychedelic, and what the integration process actually requires if the medicine is going to hold.
Gallery is building Athletes for Care to do for the athlete community what VETS did for veterans. Slider is doing the daily work in Tijuana. Both have been through this personally. Neither is selling anything.
The executive order is the policy window opening. This conversation is the orientation event.

Robert Gallery did not wait for Washington to catch up.
Gallery was the second overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. He played at Iowa from 1999 to 2003 under strength coach Chris Doyle before spending eight years with the Oakland Raiders. At 6 foot 7, playing offensive line, every single play means contact. Thirteen years of that. The accumulation is staggering.
He retired into brain fog, rage episodes, and a darkness he could not explain to his own wife. His neurologist told him to stop drinking. He tried. He couldn't. The bottle was the only thing that made the noise go away long enough to function at his own kids' school events.
Then he made a call, got on a plane to Tijuana, and went through the protocol the White House is now trying to fund research on.
That was 2021. He has not touched alcohol since.
Governor Rick Perry described part of this story on Joe Rogan Episode 2477, mentioning Gallery by name. He also described a Naval aviator who went through the same protocol in Tijuana. That aviator is Mark "Slider" Keller, who joins Gallery on this episode of No Way Out.
The full conversation drops Monday April 20 2026.
No Way Out has been covering veteran mental health, psychedelic assisted therapy, and the science behind these treatments long before Washington started paying attention. Links to related episodes below.
John Boyd's OODA loop is the most misunderstood idea in strategy and decision making. We fix that.

Bob Gourley co-founded OODA LLC as a direct homage to John Boyd’s corpus and OODA loop. He spent 14 years doing operational intelligence in environments where “what happens next” was never a rhetorical question. Today he advises corporate boards on AI, cybersecurity, and geopolitical risk — and produces the daily OODA Loop newsletter at oodaloop.com.
In this episode of No Way Out, Gourley joins Ponch Rivera and Mark McGrath to find where Boyd’s real framework shows up in a domain Boyd never explicitly addressed — the intelligence community — and traces the linearization error all the way through to its consequences.
The intelligence cycle (collect → process → analyze → disseminate) has the same structural flaw as the four-step OODA loop. Both assume phases. Neither assumes a moving adversary.
WHAT YOU’LL HEAR
→ Why the intelligence cycle is a failed model — and what it costs
→ Consciousness, OODA, and the role of want in every decision loop
→ Psychedelics, psychedelic-assisted therapy, and what Boyd might have said
→ AI’s destruction and creation moment — which companies survive and which don’t
→ Helium, Hormuz, and the supply chains nobody is pricing correctly
→ Scenario planning vs. prediction — the only honest thing you can do with the future
→ How to control AI through governance, not guardrails
→ The academic OODA problem — and a proposal for fixing it

Along the way, Helm worked alongside Wernher von Braun — sharing lunches and candid conversations with the Apollo program's chief architect in the year before Von Braun's death. He spent a decade as a close collaborator of Sir Arthur Clarke, escorting him through COMSAT Labs and closing out long evenings at the Cosmos Club in Washington. He was on the international communications team for Apollo-Soyuz in 1975. He built the world's first portable satellite phone and took it to Three Mile Island, Johnstown, and the 1976 Tangshan earthquake.
In this conversation — recorded one day after Artemis II lifted off for its journey around the moon — Ponch and Mark sit with Dr. Helm to work through what the inner circle actually knew, what was deliberately withheld, why, and what the current moment of disclosure means for how we understand outside information flowing into Boyd's OODA sketch.
They cover the physics of space habitation that NASA has historically understated. The radiation. The moon dust with edges like snowflakes that shredded Apollo suits in hours. The bone and retinal deterioration that Russian medical reports documented more honestly than American ones. The 1976 Tangshan earthquake, in which Dr. Helm believes the true death toll — closer to 700,000 — was concealed by the Chinese government, a book he is currently co-writing in English and Mandarin. The near-death experience at age five that Helm describes as the source of psychic gifts he has carried through a career at the center of the space age. His connection to Edgar Cayce's Association for Research and Enlightenment in Virginia Beach, where this conversation first began. And what he told the White House-connected handler when three independent sources — ground, radar, and aerial — corroborated a UAP sighting over a Montana ICBM installation.

Boyd's corpus to work in Wall Street firms, elite sports organizations, and high-performance teams worldwide.
Ryan “Guido” Bernacchi is a former TOPGUN instructor and Commanding Officer and Flight Leader of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. In this conversation with Brian "Ponch" Rivera and Mark McGrath, he breaks down the architecture of one of the highest-performing teams in the world: how they rebuild half-new every season, how they chair-fly to prime cognition before every flight, how the CO goes first in the debrief and accounts for sixty errors per show, and what happens when alignment and synchronization fully lock — what the Blues call “the fuzz.”
What you’ll hear in this episode:
→ Why the Blue Angels intentionally rebuild half their team every year — and what it has to do with destruction and creation
→ The difference between alignment, synchronization, and harmony — and why most organizations stop at the first one
→ How the CO self-limits during formation flight to empower the team to operate freely and correctly
→ The specific brief-debrief architecture that builds psychological safety and mission command simultaneously
→ Chair-flying as a cognitive priming tool — and why Guido flew every show scenario in his hotel room before executing it
→ What “the fuzz” is — flow, and the zone beyond it — and why it cannot be manufactured, only built toward
→ The trust-ownership loop: why complete accountability is the only path forward after something goes wrong
The Blue Angels poster is everywhere. This conversation explains what’s behind it.

Dr. Nico Grundmann (ER physician, Ember Health co-founder) and Tiffany Franke (Chief Experience Officer) join No Way Out for our first-ever married couple conversation — and the first official appearance of our sponsor, Ember Health.
What Boyd called implicit guidance and control — orientation so sound that correct action becomes reflexive — is exactly what Tiffany built into the architecture of patient care at Ember. Intake. Environment. Therapeutic communications. The 90-minute infusion window. None of it accidental. All of it designed.
In this episode:

→ 30,000 infusions: what the data says about safety, efficacy, and policy change
→ Postpartum depression, adolescent depression, and veteran PTSD — what's working

Natalie Monbiot — founder of Virtual Human Economy, co-founder of Artists in the Machine — has been building at the intersection of humans and AI since 2019. Her thesis: meaning can't be encoded. AI can judge on pattern. It cannot understand the implications of a decision, because implications require stakes you can't automate.
In this conversation: why outsourcing orientation to AI is the new failure mode. Why Marx's 'appendage to the machine' warning maps directly onto AI risk right now. Why Grimes understood something about AI and creative ownership that most artists and executives are still catching up to. And why the people who can't remember what they wrote — because AI wrote it for them — are going to get exposed in live conversations, in boardrooms, and eventually in the market.
Boyd's argument about orientation — the cognitive operating system that shapes every observation, decision, and action — is the same argument Natalie is making from a different runway.

Mark McGrath (Moose) reconnects with his Marine OCS classmate, Mayor Chris Pimentel of El Segundo, California — and what he finds isn't what most people picture when they think of California government. El Segundo is home to SpaceX, VAST Space, the LA Chargers, 200 toy companies, $5.8 billion in venture capital, an AAA bond rating, and a City Hall that will out-permit almost any municipality in the country.
This is a masterclass in adaptive leadership, OODA loop decision making, and what John Boyd's ideas look like when they're applied outside of a fighter cockpit — and outside of a Fortune 500.
Chris and Moose cover:
✅ Orientation as competitive advantage — how El Segundo sees the battlefield differently
✅ Speed and predictability as a unified strategic edge
✅ "Committing the reserve" when Silicon Valley Bank collapsed
✅ Vision 2050 — concept-based zoning vs. deterministic planning
✅ Why the highest density of PhD engineers outside Silicon Valley is in El Segundo
✅ From Mayberry-by-the-sea to the eSports World Cup — what's actually happening out there
✅ How cities can apply maneuver warfare, mission command, and decentralized command
✅ Building a structurally balanced budget from a $483M unfunded pension obligation

Jay Kopelman, retired Marine Lt. Col., shares the raw turning point: a scholarship-funded retreat with The Mission Within in Mexico, where clinically supervised ibogaine and 5-MeO hit the root that talk therapy never reached. He describes the 12-hour ibogaine journey—symbolic visions, including his son always wearing a clown mask, revealing how he'd forced a "mini-me" that never fit—and the cathartic 5-MeO moment when decades of self-hate, childhood trauma, and combat guilt finally drained away, making space for self-love and real connection.
We dive deep: safety protocols (EKGs, clean diets, magnesium co-administration), why integration coaching is non-negotiable, and how small, daily choices—like staying calm in a frustrating DMV line with his kid watching—prove the change is real, not hype.
As CEO of Mission Within Foundation, Jay now fights for broader access. He's partnering with the Psychedelic Medicine Coalition to push the Innovative Therapies Centers of Excellence Act (H.R. 2623 / bipartisan bill), which would designate at least five VA facilities—co-located with top universities—to research and deliver psychedelic-assisted therapies (MDMA, psilocybin, ibogaine, ketamine, 5-MeO) for veterans' PTSD, TBI, depression, and more.
If you're a veteran, first responder, family member, or anyone wrestling with trauma—or if you care about policy that could save lives (beyond the outdated "22 a day" stat)—this candid conversation offers grounded hope, real science, and a path forward.

Brian “Ponch” Rivera and Mark “Moose” sit down with returning guest Professor Adrian Bejan (Duke University), creator of the Constructal Law and author of the brand-new book Diversity Through Freedom. Bejan reveals how the Constructal Law shares the same DNA as John Boyd’s OODA Loop—both explain how systems evolve for better flow, access, and performance when freedom is present.
From the misuse of entropy in education and science, to why sports remain the last pure meritocracy, to the physics of design, rhythm, and movement in nature—this conversation connects thermodynamics, first principles, and real-world flow states. Learn why collectivism stifles creativity, why questioning authority accelerates orientation and decision-making, and how athletics deliver equal opportunity, discipline, and elite performance that forced DEI can never replicate.

We connect John Boyd’s OODA Loop directly to its cybernetics roots: Norbert Wiener’s teleology and purpose-driven action, the Macy meetings’ interdisciplinary magic, von Neumann’s warnings on oversimplified architectures, and the narrow engineering pivot in AI that sidelined philosophy, neuroscience, and true systems thinking. Sean unpacks why today’s LLMs dazzle yet falter on reliability and retest consistency, how publishing incentives flood the zone with unvetted preprints, and why curation, provenance, and evidence grading remain human domains.
Wiener’s human-centered caution rings true: technology without governance becomes manipulation, echoing "limited hangout" dynamics from the Church Committee era in modern selective transparency. Yet the energy is building again in analog computing—the brain as a digital-analog hybrid, with glial cells shaping timing, thresholds, and sequences missing from current neural nets. Analog promises lower power at the edge, richer gradients, and cognition closer to natural intelligence.
We explore memory’s inherent messiness, why human judgment still trumps oracles, and how to treat LLMs as thinking partners. Most importantly, Sean makes the case for small, facilitated interdisciplinary circles—writers, scientists, engineers, theologians—using open tools to recover the creative friction that once advanced fields.
If you care about trustworthy AI, the politics of knowledge, or a grounded map through cybernetics, OODA, glia, analog horizons, and the strange bedfellows steering society—this conversation unlocks it all. The conversation explores how Orientation—built from genetics, culture, experience, and new information—drives effective decision-making and allows organizations to adapt in uncertain, non-linear environments. They examine real-world examples like Blockbuster and Kodak failing due to misaligned or static Orientation, contrasts with successful adaptation through rapid reorientation, and Boyd's influences from fields like chaos theory, biology, and quantum mechanics. Vohr discusses his motivation for writing his book, drawing from years of reflection, presentations to business groups, and the challenge of articulating these concepts practically.
The episode highlights practical implications for leadership, planning, and teams: the value of shared mental models, implicit guidance and control, psychological safety for feedback, avoiding OODA loop fatigue from over-simplification, and the need to prioritize tempo over raw speed in complex settings. It underscores Boyd's legacy in the Marine Corps and beyond, while stressing that true mastery comes from ongoing learning, interaction, and avoiding dogmatic applications.
Guest Bio: Alex Vohr
Alex Vohr is a retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel with 25 years of service, including combat deployments, humanitarian operations, and key roles in Marine Corps education and planning. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he served as director and deputy director of the School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW), was involved in maneuver warfare doctrine adoption, and participated in operations such as those leading to Baghdad in OIF. After retirement, he transitioned to corporate executive roles and became a Vistage speaker, applying Boyd's concepts to business. He is the author of Speed Kills: Leveraging John Boyd's OODA Loop to Build Organizations That Win, featured on the Marine Corps Commandant's Professional Reading List, which translates Boyd's ideas into practical organizational strategies.

Larry shows how Fibonacci ratios, sacred geometry, Mandelbrot fractals, and the AB=CD pattern appear everywhere — from the human body and planets to silver, Bitcoin, the Dow, and the euro. He explains why markets are a complex adaptive system, not a random walk, and why only ~2% of traders ever see the repeating “seed” patterns that govern price.
You’ll see live chart analysis of silver (target $55–57), Bitcoin (target $52k), the NASDAQ, and the broader market top that Pesavento has been warning about. This is synthesis, not analysis — exactly the kind of orientation Boyd championed.
If you want to understand markets through the lens of OODA Loop, fractals, and nature’s own code, this is the episode.

Certainty feels safe, but it slows you down—and in chaos, slow is dead. On No Way Out Podcast, we sit with leadership expert Ed Brenegar to unpack what separates rigid managers chasing control from true leaders who build adaptive teams that move faster than the problem. Using John Boyd’s OODA loop and his Conceptual Spiral as our compass, we explore how your orientation—shaped by genetics, culture, experiences, and biases—filters what you see, how you decide, and why you act. Widen that aperture through relentless curiosity, humility, and unlearning, and you create conditions where people don’t wait for permission: they execute with clarity and psychological safety.
We also explore decentralized decision-making, commander’s intent, and mission command—showing why pushing authority to the edge delivers speed and resilience in volatile environments, from manufacturing floors to flight decks, family dynamics to boardrooms. The traps are real: media distortions that flip figure and ground, the seductive lie of “the video clearly shows,” and merchants of certainty peddling easy answers instead of better questions. True leadership replaces control with trust, compliance with alignment, and certainty with rigorous reorientation.

We start with the discipline most people skip: what happened, how it happened, and—most critically—why it’s being framed this way. Kit shows how context reframes viral clips, why “everybody knows” is a classic dissent-bullying tactic, and how identity fusion lets tribes outsource judgment from otherwise sharp minds.
From practical OPSEC (your bumper stickers, family decals, and social media posts are free targeting intel) to the mechanics of influence, Kit explains why manipulation itself is neutral—intent is what makes it weaponized or protective. We dig into intrinsic human value vs. performance-based worth, how unmet emotional needs turn people programmable, and the inner work required to align feelings with reality so decisions stop being hijacked.
If systems drive behavior, then leaders must deliberately design environments that reward the outcomes they claim to value. That’s the bridge to Mission Command: true decentralized execution never appears by fiat—it emerges only when the right conditions exist (structural trust over likability, shared intent, moral frameworks, clear constraints, and disciplined autonomy).

Mary Boyd shares intimate stories of growing up in the Boyd family, her father's charismatic personality, athleticism, neurodiversity (including ADHD traits), and relentless intellectual curiosity. She discusses helping him refine language for his legendary briefings (from early computers to Interleaf publishing), preserving his work at Quantico, and his refusal to let copyrights restrict access—ensuring his ideas remain free for all.
Hear about Boyd's global influence—from influencing FedEx's Fred Smith, to applications in medicine (the "golden hour"), police, firefighting, business, entertainment (Paramount Studios, Star Trek set photo!), and even international study (including by the Chinese). Mary reflects on his love of movies (Patton, Dune, The Last Starfighter, Star Trek, Star Wars), classical music, Italian food (Chianti and spaghetti), sweets, and his disdain for slow pursuits like golf. She emphasizes the true depth of the OODA loop: not a simple four-step circle, but a dynamic process centered on Orientation—shaped by biases, culture, genetics, experience, and the need to constantly challenge assumptions and adapt (Destruction and Creation).
This episode explores Boyd's integrity ("to be or to do"), his hatred of liars, emotional intelligence, and legacy of lifelong learning. As Mary notes, experts are those who stop learning—Boyd never did.
Perfect timing: Celebrate John Boyd Day by diving into the human side of the man who authored the Aerial Attack Study, co-created the Energy Maneuverability (E-M) Theory and went on a journey to understand the nature of creativity.

We dig into a practical definition of “home base” and why training attention throughout the day matters more than a single morning routine. Jody shares non-dual practices that quiet the intellect, interrupt rigid patterns, and open a wider field of perception. We connect stories of rapid transformation—like first responders stepping back from the brink—with neuroscientific advances in brain mapping that reveal how new circuits can unlock relief in days. The goal isn’t to numb or escape; it’s to become more present and more free.
This episode also celebrates the power of community and conscious capital. Jody describes Women Funding the World and Consciousness Drinks, spaces where clinicians, shamans, researchers, and investors meet to nurture the nurturers and fund work that sustains life. We talk about equine therapy, the stigma and renaissance of psychedelics, and the simple city practices—yes, even in Times Square—that “melt identity” and restore choice. Leaders will hear concrete micro-practices for building flow, delegating well, and showing up as a sensing, human presence instead of a walking agenda.
If you’ve been searching for tools that go beyond platitudes—real practices, real science, and real stories—this conversation offers a grounded path forward. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review with the practice you’re going to try first.

Dive deep into the intersections of John Boyd's OODA loop, emergence, and the nature of reality in this mind-expanding episode of No Way Out. Hosts Ponch and Moose (Mark) welcome patent attorney and author Luiz von Paumgartten, whose book The Abstractionist's Papers (freely available at WelcomeToTheBlueSpace.com) reveals profound connections between Boyd's work and concepts like meaning vs. happening, red space (the mind's interpretive world) and blue space (raw reality), orthogonality, paradoxes, and flow states.
Luiz shares his journey from personal disruption to creating practical maps for navigating uncertainty, drawing parallels to OODA's Orientation, the free energy principle, Eastern philosophy (like the Tao), and even quantum paradoxes. Discover how mismatches and emergence drive novelty, why the mind isn't the brain, and how these ideas can supercharge decision-making in leadership, markets, and life. If you're into Boyd, active inference, or unlocking hidden dimensions of thought, this conversation will reorient your worldview.

Unlock the ultimate way to understand the OODA loop with Brian "Ponch" Rivera's breakdown of NATO's 2025 Cognitive Warfare report. As a retired U.S. Navy Captain and NATO veteran, Ponch critiques the oversimplified linear OODA model and reveals a game-changing "boundary hack" – drawing from Chuck Spinney's 1995 collaborations with John Boyd, Anil Seth's predictive processing, and post-1995 theories like the Entropic Brain Hypothesis, The Constructal Law, and Active Inference.
Discover how cognitive warfare – the ongoing war where the battlefield is your mind – exploits vulnerabilities in perception (a "controlled hallucination," per Anil Seth) and decision-making. Learn why the OODA loop isn't a 4-step process but a fractal model of living systems interacting with environments, incorporating boundaries, feedforward/feedback pathways, perception-action loop (ecological dynamics), and connections to Perceptual Control Theory, the Free Energy Principle, and more.
Key insights:
→The "boundary" concept: Separate OODA's internal states (orientation, intuition, perception, predictive processing) from external chaos (VUCA/entropy).
→Since 1995: Evolutions via Spinney's evolutionary epistemology, constructor theory, Constructal Law, and consciousness debates.
→Applications: Achieve flow states, build high-performing teams, and counter cognitive threats in AI, neuroscience, and business.
If you're an academic exploring cognitive neuroscience or a business leader seeking insights on resilience, safety, agility, and AI in uncertain environments, this is your must-watch. In this profound episode of No Way Out, hosts Moose and Ponch sit down with Dr. Mihaela Ulieru – robotics pioneer, AI ethics advisor, and governance expert – for a mind-expanding conversation that bridges military strategy, morality, technology, and consciousness.
Drawing from her Romanian roots and personal experiences during the 1989 Revolution, Dr. Mihaela explores how the OODA loop can either trap us in dependency or propel us toward true human flourishing. The discussion dives deep into the moral stack (morality, ethics, justice) needed to prevent system capture by "takers," the isolating effects of modern media and AI on human connectivity, and why society often rewards extractive behaviors over creative "makers."
They unpack historical lessons from Vietnam and Romania, the cypherpunk dream of digital freedom, epigenetics, plant-based medicine for expanding consciousness, and the potential of collective intent, telepathy, and universal patterns in shaping reality.
