I explain the frustrating jitter/ghosting, shutter speed and stabilization issues action cam filmmakers face, especially if you're trying to follow the 180-degree rule for natural motion blur. Spoiler: even with stabilization turned off and using Gyroflow in post, the footage still looks like garbage. If you’re into cinematic action cam footage, use ND filters or care about actual image quality, you might want to watch this before trusting DJI’s "Pro" label. Also: DJI, fix your sh*t. Thanks. The new Osmo Action 6 better has this issue fixed.👇🏼 This might help you to reduce Jitters/Flickering:If you're struggling with jittery or ghosted footage on action cams like the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, one quick workaround is to quadruple your shutter speed instead of following the standard 180-degree rule. That means if you're shooting at 25 fps, instead of using the usual 1/50 sec, go for 1/100 or even 1/200 sec. Especially when using Rocksteady!If you're filming at 50 fps, aim for 1/200 sec. This reduces motion blur and gives the digital stabilization (or Gyroflow in post) a cleaner image to work with. Yes, it sacrifices that natural cinematic motion blur, but it significantly reduces ghosting, highlight flicker and general jitteriness. You’ll need to compensate exposure with higher ISO — or ditch your ND filters entirely and just go full-auto everything so you don't have to deal with these issues at all.
