Speaking of those, it's interesting how the Haruka operates more like a magical girl game than a ninja game. Maybe it's a throwback to Escalayer, of which Haruka is a spiritual successor. I found an Escalayer figurine in an anime store in London once. I wonder if they realised that it was a character from an H-Game.

This theme in that fight is badass. Best track on the album. That's it, I don't need to upload the rest of the OST, I can go home and call it a day. Nah, just kidding. I wouldn't do that.

Maybe they want to avoid confusion with the game's bad guys, but I think their name is written in katakana so I'm not sure why they did. It really bakes my noodle.

An interesting tidbit about the game: many of the bad guys are actually modeled on the main characters and serve as counterparts, of sorts, to them. The penultimate boss for Narika's dad, Hagane Itou for Subaru, that crazy chick for Akira, and the final boss actually looks very similar to Takamaru, the male protag.

Apparently Haruka is from ancient Japan and gets sent forward in time to the present, where her former ninja clan has become a secret society watching for the return of the bad guys. They've got a secret underground lair and everything.

This has been the bane of my existence recently as I keep trying to get Subaru's good end and fail. I may have to restart my playthrough. Just so we're clear, I don't know Japanese. I just use dictionaries to translate minor stuff like song titles, but I'd like to think I have a good sense for guessing how things ought to be translated. I sure as heck wish I knew Japanese though, and I'm trying to fix that.

The characters are just too weird. If someone wants to give me a better translation of the title, I'd be quite grateful. That said, I like this song. Choukou Sennin Haruka is at its best when it blends traditional japanese instruments with modern rock and other styles of music. This song is used in the OVA quite frequently but it never makes really good use of it. I'm not sure what I was expecting from an H-OVA but there it is.

Alicesoft Sound Album Vol. 13 - Self, Not-Self Teabee 2012-02-29 | Track 10 of 31. I remember hearing this song in the game, but I can't remember the context. The kanji here can be read as selflessness but also as the Buddhist concept of anatman, which is basically the idea that there's no such thing as individuality so trying to individualize things as "I" or "Mine" (i.e. having a sense of self) is counterproductive. In this context I think it makes more sense than selflessness.

Maybe Takamaru gets into a lot of random perverted situations; I'm not sure how the track name makes sense otherwise.

I know I tend to insert a lot of unnecessary commentary into the description, but it helps alleviate the tedium of uploading, and I hope that in some small way, I can get people more interested in these games.

The artwork was subpar (too much heavy blacklining on Narika's eyes, for example) and Haruka is totally lame compared to how ridiculously broken she is in the game. Oh, and it only covered about half the game, up until you defeat Subaru. Even if it's just a H-OVA they could have gone so much further.

Game itself is an urban fantasy game with traditional Alicesoft dungeon crawler gameplay. Try it out sometime.

Alicesoft BGM Festival 0 - The Day Takeoff 2011 Teabee 2011-05-29 | I actually think this is the arrange that should have gone on ASC8; the way that track was arranged made me very, very sad especially after being able to hear the original version. This one is a joy for me to listen to. I like Daiteikoku less than I expected to. It didn't really live up to expectations but it's not the pile of crap that some people in the blogosphere seem to think it is. The complaints are all legitimate but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable, especially after the release of the 1.02 patch.Oh by the way, there are karaoke tracks for all four songs. Message me if you want 'em.
