Lately we teared down the vintage Siemens Attane i210 and the older Siemens se7950 enterprise SDSL to Ethernet/ISDN boxes (links below). Today I have a ZyXEL Speedlink 5501 consumer/SOHO VDSL router on the bench to take apart.
As always we start with a walk around. Then we power that thing up, making it blink some LEDs. What follows is a rather easy teardown (compared to the enterprise units). Finally we have a look at the board, which is of course packed with chips.
