Walts Nephew
Due to the popularity of Casey Junior from the first video I posted a little while back, I decided to revisit the little circus train in Fantasyland. The video starts with color footage of Casey being fitted to the rails for the first time in '55, shots from the opening year and several times the Skyway takes a look from the sky at Casey making his way through Storybook Land. Hope you enjoy!

In this compilation you will see several shots of the engine in stride burning her oil richly with black smoke, hear her wonderful Rio Grande 5 chime whistle (and even her secondary single note whistle if you listen carefully), ride on the train on the D&RGW gondola behind the tender, some wheel slip on the last incline before arriving at the north station, and all the old equipment the railway encompasses. And, out of sympathy, you’ll also see the Carbon Limestone Co.’s No.9 Plymouth diesel shunter hauling the second train.
Hope you enjoy!

I hope this brings a little of Walt's railroad joy into your homes during this time of no train activity in Disneyland. Hope you enjoy!
Took a moment to visit the railway down the road from Walt's Magic Kingdom to check out some rolling stock from the great Rio Grande of Colorado. Ever since RGS 41 came back into service earlier this year I've been meaning to go to Knott's Berry Farm to see her in person and, lo, yesterday was that day.
These videos do no justice to show how BIG she really is. Even though she is narrow gauge, the sheer magnitude of her boiler and dimensions is unparalleled (and to think the small K-27s are even BIGGER than the C-19s).
So, without any further ado, here is RGS 41 both on and off the train crawling around the old farm yearning for another good stretch of the wheels on the Durango and Silverton or Cumbres and Toltec.
Hope you enjoy!
Ernest S. Marsh - Holiday 5 Blue + Lilly Belle
C.K. Holliday - Holiday 4 Green
Fred Gurley - Excursion 3
(E.P. Ripley, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red).
The timestamps for this compilation are rather important (especially the last one):
0:00 - Arriving into Tomorrowland Station
0:28 - Rivers of America to Toontown Depot
3:52 - Toontown to Tomorrowland
7:39 - Toontown to Main Street (feat. Grand Canyon and Primeval World)
11:58 - Tender Ride
The unique circumstance of being able to hop aboard the tender was a real treat. Hope you enjoy!
C.K. Holliday - Holiday 2 Red
E.P. Ripley - Holiday 5 Blue + Lilly Belle
Ernest S. Marsh - Excursion 3
(Fred Gurley, Ward Kimball, Holiday 4 Green).
Due to the stature of the occasion, all footage from this day is reserved to Ernest. We begin where I first saw her rolling when waiting for a train at Tomorrowland Station; then we see her from the entrance of the Park as she arrives at Main Street Station; we then climb aboard as we pass through Adventureland and pull into New Orleans Square; we continue on to Toontown Depot and, while traversing the Rivers of America, observe and listen to the much improved valve timing; we end with a departure through "it's a small world" with a familiar Crosby whistle at the crossing.
Hope you enjoy!
This particular recording is from the late 1970s and just before 1983 because it mentions the construction of "New Fantasyland" while en route to Tomorrowland.
Hope you enjoy!
E.P. Ripley - Holiday 4 Green
Ward Kimball - Holiday 5 Blue
C.K. Holliday - Excursion 3
(Fred Gurley, Ernest S. Marsh, Holiday 2 Red and Lilly Belle).
The clip today shows Ward with H5 taking the Rivers of America head on in the early light of dusk. Hope you enjoy!

Fred Gurley - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle
C.K. Holliday - Excursion 3
(E.P. Ripley, Ernest S. Marsh, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red and Holiday 4 Green).
We start with a view of Holliday on the Rivers of America as seen from the bow from the Queen of the River Mark Twain; we then view Holliday from Excursion on the Rivers as well as passing through it's a small world into Toontown Depot; finally we watch Fred as she pulls into Main Street Station in the early afternoon.
Hope you enjoy!
Fred Gurley - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle
E.P. Ripley - Holiday 4 Green
(C.K. Holliday, Ernest S. Marsh, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red, Excursion 3).
We start out with a nature shot from Tom Sawyer's Island as we watch from across the Rivers of America while Fred makes her way to Big Thunder Trail and on to Toontown Depot. We then have a smashing clip of Ripley pulling into Main Street Station on a somewhat cool summer afternoon. Hope you enjoy!
C.K. Holliday - Holiday 4 Green
E.P. Ripley - Excursion 3
(Fred Gurley, Ernest S. Marsh, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red, Holiday 5 Blue and Lilly Belle).
We start with Ripley on the Rivers America before stopped unexpectedly before the left curve on Big Thunder Trail. Because of the incline we had to back up slightly to pick up the slack of the passengers cars and then crawled all the way to Toontown Depot. We then jump into the Primeval World for more cab shots and a lovely view of Ripley's reflection in the diorama glass before pulling into Main Street Station. We then get a view on the engineer's side of Ripley passing through it's a small world, over the crossing and on her way to Tomorrowland before ending the compilation with Holliday pulling into Main Street at evensong.
As a little PSA, please ensure you and all members of your party remain properly seat during the entirety of your trip. It's the best railroad in the world, but we must all do our part by ensuring all policies and rules are followed for everyone's safety and for a wholesome experience.
Hope you enjoy!
C.K. Holliday - Holiday 4 Green
E.P. Ripley - Excursion 3
(Fred Gurley, Ernest S. Marsh, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red, Holiday 5 Blue and Lilly Belle).
We begin our compilation with a look at Holliday crossing over the Critter Country trestle coming out of Splash Mountain; next is a view of Ripley arriving at Main Street Station as seen from the Fire Department; then we get a glimpse of Ripley on the Rivers of America with the Mark Twain before briefly making the curve left on Big Thunder Trail; then we see Holliday arriving at Toontown Depot; followed by Ripley passing through the jungles of Adventureland before announcing her arrival at New Orleans Square; and finally see Ripley passing through it's a small world and sounding off at the crossing all while the evening fireworks were on display.
While passing by the roundhouse it could be seen Ernest's smokebox door has been removed so, perhaps, a great deal of work is going into her well being.
Hope you enjoy!
Fred Gurley - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle
E.P. Ripley - Excursion 3
(C.K. Holliday, Ernest S. Marsh, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red, Holiday 4 Green).
We start the compilation on H5 being pulled by a clacking Fred through the Primeval World where we see the pterodactyls flapping on the waterfall after a long overdue absence. We then take our focus over to Ripley for the remainder of the compilation. First we see her taking the trestle bridge at the left curve on Big Thunder Trail. Then we get a platform view of her linkages coming into Main Street Station. Next we follow behind along the Rivers of America into Toontown Dept. We then hear her announce her impending arrival to the crossing and pan over to the roundhouse where we see Ward simmering in the sun blowing down. We then see Ripley pulling into Main Street from a window before finally seeing Ripley, again, pulling into Main Street as seen from the main entrance.
Hope you enjoy!
Fred Gurley - Holiday 5 Blue and Lilly Belle
Ward Kimball - Excursion 3
(C.K. Holliday, E.P. Ripley, Ernest S. Marsh, Holiday 2 Red, Holiday 4 Green).
First we see Ward waiting at Toontown Depot while burning off some fuel before wheel slipping while passing through it's a small world; then there are two clips of Fred and Ward passing on the Critter Country trestle through Splash Mountain and by Hungry Bear Restaurant.
It is true that Ernest came out this week in her 1959 livery with Porter-esque whitewall wheels. Hopefully the next time I go to the Park I'll be able to capture some footage of her.
Hope you enjoy!
Fred Gurley - Holiday 5 Blue
C.K. Holliday - Excursion 3
(E.P. Ripley, Ernest S. Marsh, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red, Holiday 4 Green and Lilly Belle).
First we follow Holliday from the front row of Excursion 3 from Main Street over to Toontown Depot via New Orleans Square Station and the Rivers of America. Then we travel behind Fred along the Rivers into the Toontown tunnel before watching her depart Main Street as seen from the West tunnel. Hope you enjoy!

Most of this compilation focuses on Ripley. I was very close to seeing Holliday from Mark Twain but it just wasn't meant to be (for today, at least). However, we do get a quick glimpse at Holliday as seen from the Esplanade. Hope you enjoy!

Hope you enjoy!
Ward Kimball - Holiday 4 Green
C.K. Holliday - Excursion 3
(E.P. Ripley, Fred Gurley, Ernest S. Marsh, Holiday 2 Red, Holiday 5 Blue and Lilly Belle).
Today we feature two brief shots of Holliday and Ward taking off from Main Street Station; the first in the morning sun and the latter in the afternoon glare. Hope you enjoy!
Ernest S. Marsh - Holiday 2 Red
E.P. Ripley - Excursion 3
In the afternoon, for some reason, Ernest had to be uncoupled from her train and swapped out for, surprisingly, Holliday! At that point the roster changed to the following for the rest of the day:
C.K. Holliday - Holiday 2 Red
E.P. Ripley - Excursion 3
(Fred Gurley, Ernest S. Marsh, Ward Kimball, Holiday 4 Green, Holiday 5 Blue and Lilly Belle).
We start the compilation with a view from the cattle car of Ernest on the Rivers of America, followed by her arrival into Toontown Depot. Fro there we check in on Ripley as we make a few trips around the park and take a good listen to her whistle. From 8:27-11:54 you may observe the extraordinary: first, Ernest running light to return to the roundhouse leaving H2 stranded at Toontown; then Holliday reversing to Toontown to collect her train. From there we have a cinematic shot of Ripley pulling into Toontown followed by Holliday pulling into Tomorrowland. For the remainder of the compilation are clips behind Holliday as she pilots her way through the night along the Rivers of America. Pay particular attention to the final clip at 18:40 if you want to know what it's like to hear an engine sing.
It was quite wonderful to see the sister engines operating together again. A great big thank you to all the engine crews and trainmen who continue to make the DRR such a wonderful and wondrous railway.
Hope you enjoy!
Ernest S. Marsh - Holiday 2 Red
E.P. Ripley - Excursion 3
(C.K. Holliday, Fred Gurley, Ward Kimball, Holiday 4 Green, Holiday 5 Blue and Lilly Belle).
We start with a shot of Ernest clacking away on the Rivers of America on through to Toontown Depot. Then we take a Grand Circle Tour behind E.P. Ripley on the newly-refurbished Excursion set. We then see Ripley taking off from Main Street Station (after a brief back-up to pull the slack and set off with the heavy train). Finally we see Ernest arriving into Main Street with the very colorful and wonderful flower arrangements near the floral Mickey. Hope you enjoy!
E.P. Ripley - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle
Ernest S. Marsh - Holiday 4 Green
(C.K. Holliday, Fred Gurley, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red and Excursion 3).
First is Ripley passing the Hungry Bear Restaurant, then we see her passing the Rivers of America as seen from the restaurant's balcony, then we see the fireman's side as she takes the left curve from Frontierland on Big Thunder Trail on her way to Toontown Depot and Fantasyland, and finally we see her arriving into Main Street Station. Hope you enjoy!
E.P. Ripley - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle
Ernest S. Marsh - Holiday 4 Green
(C.K. Holliday, Fred Gurley, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red and Excursion 3).

Hope you enjoy!
Fred Gurley - Holiday 2 Red
E.P. Ripley - Holiday 5 Blue
(C.K. Holliday, Ernest S. Marsh, Ward Kimball, Excursion 3, Holiday 4 Green and Lilly Belle).
We start this compilation with Ripley from New Orleans Square to Toontown Depot riding alongside the Rivers of America. Then we get closer to Ripley and see her pass through it's a small world with a WONDERFUL crossing whistle on her way to Toontown. Next is a shot of her reflection in the Primeval World and arrival into Main Street, USA. Then we have a quick clip of Fred beating away with her off-rhythmic chuff. Finally, in the middle of a good rain, is Ripley arriving into Main Street with the month-temporary "Floral Minnie" down below. Hope you enjoy!
Fred Gurley - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle

The bark, whistle, paint and just about everything is so pristine on Ripley. Now we only need to get back her original bell...
Hope you enjoy!

(C.K. Holliday, E.P. Ripley, Ward Kimball, Holiday 4 Green and Excursion 3).
Today's clip is a brief view of Fred with the freight train passing by the Hungry Bear Restaurant through the trees in the shimmering afternoon sun of an almost spring-like day in the late winter. Hope you enjoy!

Fred Gurley - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle
Ernest S. Marsh - Excursion 3 / Holiday 4 Green
(C.K. Holliday, E.P. Ripley, Ward Kimball, Holiday 2 Red, H4/E3).
Partway through the day Ernest had to swap train sets for some reason, hence the rolling out of H4. We start this compilation with Fred rolling into Main Street Station with the morning sun glistening in the back as she prepares for the first train of the day. Then we take her on Big Thunder Trail and listen to her bark to Toontown Depot. Finally is passing through small world to get a quick glimpse of the roundhouse. Hope you enjoy!
Fred Gurley - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle
Ernest S. Marsh - Excursion 3
(E.P. Ripley, Ward Kimball, C.K. Holliday, Holiday 2 Red and Holiday 4 Green).
We begin with a view from the crossing as Ripley sits in the far left berth silently and patiently waiting for her chance to take passengers again; next is a shot of Fred coming into Main Street Station seen from Town Square; finally is Ernest taking the left curve on Big Thunder Trail all the way through to Toontown Depot. Hope you enjoy!
Ernest S. Marsh - Holiday 5 Blue
C.K. Holliday - Excursion 3
(Fred Gurley, Ward Kimball, Holiday 4 Green and Lilly Belle).
First is a clip of Ernest pulling into New Orleans Square Station, then we hear Ernest's crossheads causing a tremendous clacking on Big Thunder Trail, then a look at the roundhouse as we pass it's a small world heading towards Tomorrowland, and finally Ernest arriving at Main Street Station. Hope you enjoy!

Ward Kimball - Holiday 4 Green
Ernest S. Marsh - Excursion 3
(Fred Gurley and Holiday 2 Red).
First are a couple clips of Holliday and Ward passing by Hungry Bear Restaurant followed by Ward seen from across the Rivers of America with Galaxy's Edge in the background. Then we have an entire montage of just Ward (sorry folks, didn't get any footage of Ernest this night). First is Ward pulling into New Orleans Square, then behind the engine from NOS to Toontown Depot with some wonderful engine noises in the tunnels. Then is Ward passing through the Christmas-decorated it's a small world through to Tomorrowland Station (with a brief encounter with a Mark VII Monorail). Then our last piece of footage is from within the Grand Canyon Diorama with a cab shot and the ability to see the straight-away of track before the Primeval World.
Hope you enjoy!
All jokes aside, this Jungle Cruise was absolutely exceptional and one of the finest I have ever taken to date. I cannot recommend Skipper Evan enough so, please, if you make your way to Adventureland look for this fine fellow.
Hope you enjoy!

C.K. Holliday - Holiday 5 Blue & Lilly Belle
Fred Gurley - Holiday 4 Green
Ernest S. Marsh - Excursion 3
(Ward Kimball and Holiday 2 Red).
Today's clip is simply Fred pulling into Main Street Station. I would have included more, but I was having so much of a ball enjoying Walt's trains that I was simply living in the moment and only pulled my camera out once.
I have several projects in the works that I hope to start rolling out in the new year (maybe sooner, but we'll see!). Hope you enjoy!
