[IVC] Find a Dream | MakoHaru macrauchenia 2014-10-21 | “When we lost something precious, and we'd looked and looked and still couldn't find it, then we didn't have to be completely heartbroken. We still had that last bit of comfort, thinking one day, when we grow up, and we were free to travel around the country, we would always go and find it....something that was once close to our hearts.” - Kazuo Ishiguro [Never Let Me Go]InVIDcible Season 2, Round 2Lost and Found______________________________Alright. Let's explain this bad boy. I was super ecstatic when we were each assigned themes regarding duality (light/dark, strength/weakness, focus/blur) and I got lost and found. Like I cannot explain to you guys how thrilled I was, because I had been wanting to use all those heart-shattering Free! quotes about finding dreams and what not for the longest of time. However, as I started this project, I realized this was scarily a whole lot more than just finding a dream. I also got waaaaaay too involved in this project. You could say I got "lost" in the project (you'll have to put up with the puns for another round). I "found" a whole lot of things that I didn't anticipate. Anyway, the initial, superficial, you-can't-miss-it lost and found elements in this is that they both are looking for a dream, Haru more so than Makoto. However, things got a whole lot more painful when I realized just WHO Haru's missing dream might involve. And then I found that quote from Never Let Me Go and things just started to hurt a whole lot more. I know I sound like an inarticulate rambler, but it just really hit me strongly. Makoto's and Haru's entire relationship revolves around the concept of lost and found in season two. The two of them are on the edge of splitting up when they've been together for their entire lives. They know things about each other that no one else even notices, but because they've known each other for so long, they completely take these little discoveries about each other for granted. For example, Haru notices Makoto being the swim instructor, but only really thinks about it in depth when he almost loses him during their fight. And you guys seriously can't ignore all of those long, thoughtful looks Haru gives Makoto after their conversation. Clearly Haru found out something about his friend he had never recognized, even though it had been present the entire time. Haru (and Makoto) become increasingly distressed when losing the other becomes a real possibility. Perhaps the best example is when Makoto reveals his plans to go to Tokyo, completely blindsiding Haru. The lost, terrified expression on his face is obvious. There are other instances where Haru almost lost Makoto and you can see a similarly terrified expression on his face then. There are so many moments in the show where either Makoto or Haru "finds" the other or discovers something such as their strong feelings for each other (*cough* love). It's hard to pinpoint exactly when, since I think Makoto might have known about his feelings for Haru before the show began, but the scenes I put for the "found something? you're right" part were two moments where I thought each truly discovered something special about his counterpart. I also think another crucial moment was when Makoto welcomed Haru home. It was at this point when Haru literally FOUND A HOME (aka his true love). Honestly, I can't think of anything more convincing. These precious babies found love, even though they've known each other practically since birth. It was only when they nearly lost each other when they truly realized how precious they were to one another. I could go on and on about how beautiful their relationship is and perfect they are and how much I wanted to burst into grossy, snotty tears during this season of Eternal Suffering, but I'll leave you guys with that. As for the editing style, I tried to incorporate "how" each person felt with the absence of the other. This was mainly done through that black and white effect and through scenes of chaos or obvious states of panic or terror. I also sort of incorporated a lost/hidden versus found thing in the gradual fading in and out of a lot of my text. Almost as if it was uncovered or discovered. At least you can say I tried. I don't know. I was so happy to get to the next round of IVC and I was really proud of this entry. It hurt like hell to make, but I like it.

[IVC] Starting at the End | Haikyuu macrauchenia 2014-09-02 | InVIDcible Season Two, Round 1: ChoppedPrompts: F, no overlays, and an influence of circles____________________________________________________Woooah, man. This was certainly a tough ROUND. There were some instances when I didn't think I could make ends meet. It felt like I was just going in circles. Ahem. Anyway, the thing I tried to gear the focus towards in this video was circles. Both literally and symbolically.There were actual circles EVERYWHERE in this. Some through the text or the cookie cutter effect, but mostly through the footage, such as the volleyball, eyes, and circle formations. The other kind of circles I used were metaphorical symbols. Buckle yourselves in, 'cause this is about to get deep. I picked this show to use for several reasons. First of all, it's a show about a ball and balls are circles. Tadaaaa. Secondly though, volleyball in itself is a sort of cyclical game where the ball just goes round and round the court. When the ball falls, that's when the circle breaks. Also, I sort of envisioned this team to be a sort of circle, where the team is only as strong as the parts that make it up. There's more symbolism elsewhere about repetition and what not, but it only sounded good in my head. Also, this entire song is a metaphor for a circle. Starting at the end...?________________________________________________That candy style part was rough. I have a new respect for people who do it, 'cause mine wasn't even "full fledged" candy style, and I still wanted to rip my hair out. I don't know what possessed me to do it in the first place. Also, I never realized how much I missed overlays till I knew I couldn't use them. Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING PRECIOUS SUBSCRIBERS! Holy cow. I'm at 700+ subscribers. [IVC] Made My Mistakes | Edmund Pevensie macrauchenia 2014-07-06 | I still can't believe it. Everything about this entire round was surreal. First of all, the fact that I've made it this far in a tournament with such INCREDIBLE editors is insane. Like, holy cow. Second, it was so weird and sort of sad to go back to find all of my very first videos. Weird, because it seemed like a life time ago. Sad, because they were really bad. So, let's go on a little story journey. We'll start with my first video I ever made.youtube.com/watch?v=E4qpjO-oh4Q&feature=youtu.beIt was in WMM and if you guys think your first vid was bad, at least you knew how to properly render. I didn't back then, so that's already one major improvement I've made. Believe it or not, I started out editing with live action footage. I had been so inspired by a scene in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe that I immediately went home, got the footage, and tried my hand at video editing. I made a few other Narnia videos after that, but we don't talk about those. After a few months, I gave up on editing. Movie Maker was too fickle, I couldn't get any project to render properly, and I felt pretty alone in this editing gig. However, a few months later, I dove back into editing with Young Justice and Sony Vegas. The editing community in general was more welcoming and the editors were far nicer and more supportive (several of you awesome people were directly involved in this tournament). I picked it back up as a hobby, this time staying solely with animation and still images. I know I have a lot to work on when it comes to live action. Most of the neat little tricks I've learned only work well with animation. Also, this song was fairly "effect-sound-less," which meant there were far more fades and blurs than any earth shattering cool moves. But then again, I've always been more comfortable with emotion than effects. At the close, I'd like to believe that I've made a huge improvement these past four years. I'm calling unfair match up, 'cause how could I ever compete with a magical, superhuman editor :DBut honestly, though. I'm so glad I got to go up against you for this round. You truly are a terrific editor and I learned so much from your style. Plus, you have gorgeous vids. I probably watched each of them about ten times. You guys should so sub this awesome editor!youtube.com/user/empiricallynotgoodAlright. Now to the video itself. This is the third round for the Twerky Tourney. The goal was to try to copy some of your opponent's style and technique into your own editing. Oh man. This round was tough for me for several reasons. The main one being that where I primarily use animation footage, Empi uses primarily live action footage. Just the transition from the two types of footage was an interesting change. I really liked it, so I'll probably make more vids with it in the future :DI spent probably a week just analyzing and taking notes on my opponent's videos, figuring out commons effects, certain transitions, and even the content of the videos. I'm better at making lists, so here we go! - Naturally she uses live action footage, so I thought I'd give it a go. Also, many of her videos that I was closely influenced by (see below) feature strong relationships and friendships between two people or a group of people. One of which who is usually having a hell of a bad time. What better pairing to show a dysfunctional relationship with formerly good times that Steve and Bucky? I tried to put some emotion in this, but part of it may have been drowned out by the faster parts of the song. I don't know. Maybe? - The intro. I was so inspired by Empi's gorgeous intro for the second round of the Twerk Tourney that I knew I had to try something similar. I noticed she used a couple of overlays with motion text, which was not featured often in most of the rest of the editing. I actually really liked the stark difference between the intros (sometimes simple, yet very effect) and the video itself. - Not as much typography. Though I can see why. It'd be hard to find a good place to put it without hindering the pace or clips. - Effects. I noticed Empi really matches the beat of the song to the actions and the effects on the clips. She usually achieves this through slowing down or speeding up clips. That was an adventure to try to learn. I also noticed that she would use light flashes and blurs as transitions a lot, so I put some of those in to. - As for coloring, I just used a slightly modified version of the clips original color to not let the coloring drown out the rest of the video or the facial expressions. - Voice overs. Empi uses a lot of voice overs and sound effects in her videos. It was really fun to add those (since usually I don't) and I think it adds more to the emotion of the video.There's probably more, but those are the main things I wanted to express in my own editing. This one was a bear to render. I'm really grateful for the massive amount of extensions DiamantTiger and ZeldaAwesome gave us. Sorry for taking so long!So! My vice was lust.Initially I was like "Yeah! Lust! Let's make a sexy video with sexy people and no deeper meaning!" Nope. That didn't happen. Instead I tried to be creative and explore the different aspects of lust instead of the simply mindless, sexual component of it. To me, lust isn't simply a burning sexual desire. I mean, certainly there is a ton of chemistry involved, but it isn't all about the urge to rip someone's clothes off with your teeth. There is a lot of calculation in lust. Lots of game playing. Lots of manipulation and attempts to dominate the other partner. Lust also comes in the form of false love, where someone may believe they love a person or pretend to love a person to get what they want. I think Annie and Armin especially have a stunning relationship where even now I'm not sure if they truly have feelings for each other or if they're just using one another. I could write for hours about their relationship, but I'll spare you the suffering.My video is also a hodge podge of lustful elements from across cultures and literature. Hopefully it doesn't look too cluttered. - Fire: Naturally lust has elements of "burning" desire, so of course I had to have some fire in this. Fire is also very dangerous, yet very addicting to some people. - Blood: It's in the song. It's in the fanart and footage. Blood was considered a sign of too much lust or carnal desire in the Elizabethan times. - Wind: I assure you that random, wind blowing overlay is not random! In Dante's Inferno, the lusters bound to hell were punished by massive gusts of wind, blowing pieces of them all over the second ring of hell. - Old Footage Imitation: This can be seen primarily in the first fourteen seconds. I tried to imitate old movies with the famous Marilyn Monroe, etc, who was the very image of lust and sex for a majority of the twentieth and even twenty first century.Like I said before, there are a ton of other "lustful" elements that I included, but these are a few of the major ones.
