e//missions - Laser on Salar De Uyuni (Part 1) JesterN 2022-11-17 | #activism #lightart #landart In my recent project e//missions I use laser light to direct attention towards locations in nature threatened by the climate crisis as an excuse to talk about the environmental threats that each specific location faces. e//missions aims to draw attention towards the precious natural resources of our planet by using light performance to shed light on the fragility of various ecosystems. I believe that activism can be carried out in a non confrontational way enabling us to have a dialogue about relevant issues, such as the threats of pollution and climate change, which affect us all. To achieve this I think art is a capable yet gentle tool which can ignite a dialogue and spread awareness. Highlighting the beauty rather than the devastation is an effective way of communicating the information while nonetheless inspiring a reaction in the viewer.e//missions was born during the home-confinement pandemic period, with the goal to redirect audience awareness outwards towards nature, highlighting its value and fundamental role for our life on the planet. I began by exploring my region in the Alps of Italy, shooting laser light onto water streams that are becoming increasingly polluted and scarce. Recently I traveled to project in Bolivia's unique Uyuni salt desert which is the mining target of several multinationals for the high presence of lithium. Bolivian president Evo Morales already anticipated that Chinese and German companies manifested intention to mine the site for obvious energetic reasons and that would sustain the nation for a long time. Excerpts of Visual Music Lecture @Museo Arte Moderno in Lima, Peru on 2/10/22 [SPANISH] JesterN 2022-10-27 | #laserdrawing #vectorsynthesis #oscilloscopemusic WORKSHOP PRESENTATIONProbably as a consequence of the renewed interest towards analog circuitry and modular synthesizers, in the last few years, analog video synthesis has become again increasingly popular in the community of electronic musicians and multimedia artists. The appeal of vector graphics may derive from the seemingly infinite resolution, the line-based aesthetic, and the intrinsic impermanence of the display. Other motivations lie in repurposing obsolescent hardware, reimplementing historical devices, or simply diverging from mainstream approaches to video. To start experimenting with vector screens in a very intuitive way it is sufficient to possess a couple of oscillators and a cheap vector monitor or an oscilloscope. This is a multidisciplinary workshop that brings together expertise from different theoretical fields: media archaeology and analog electronics, graphic design, optics, computer vision and early 3d modelling for 80s gaming, hacking. The workshop will show possible hardware configurations to setup an analog video-synthesis workstation, build several mathematical modules to achieve different aesthetic results (from Lissajous curves, to 3d modelling and raster video), while learning about the history of video art. We will also discuss possible solutions on how to setup an all analog audiovisual live show.
