In this video, Zork I the Great Underground Empire, released in 1988 for the Atari ST by Infocom.
According to the Zork calendar, the year is 948 GUE and we, the "adventurer", we must find the nineteen treasures of Zork, hidden in the intricate labyrinths of the "Great Underground Kingdom". Puzzles, mean creatures, thieves and the lethal mysterious Grues await us in our quest.
Initially released in 1977 for the PDP-10 mainframe computer Zork has been ported to the ST maintaining its original form: A text adventure game. Zork communicates with the player via text and the player interacts with Zork by typing commands.
So, no graphics to see, no sound to listen to, only text and fun. Zork is a bestseller that sold nearly 400.000 copies all around the world. It can be odd to play a text adventure game in 2025 but, if you never played Zork before, you certainly have lost a milestone in the history of videogames.
