The winner of this game, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana, was certain to play #3 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl for the national championship.Florida State had quarterback Charlie Ward, who would win the Heisman Trophy. Notre Dame was the underdog but had a home-field advantage. It was a game between the most-hyped program of the era (Florida State) and the most-hyped program in college football history (Notre Dame). THe game was hyped as the "Game of the Century". The Irish jumped out to a 31–17 lead entering the 4th quarter. The Seminoles got the ball with 1:39 to play. But Ward drove the 'Noles down the field and hit Kez McCorvey on 4th-and-20 for a touchdown that bounced off Irish safety Brian McGee. Notre Dame got the ball back but went three-and-out, giving FSU one last shot. In just three plays, they got to the Irish 14 with three seconds to play. Ward rolled out and had a wide-open receiver in the end zone but did not see him, and his pass was batted down by cornerback Shawn Wooden. Notre Dame won 31–24, and a sellout crowd stormed the field.

From 1981 to 1995, the PSL had a team either win the state championship (eight state championships) or finish second in the state (11 runners-up finishes). In 1987, 1989, 1991, and 1994 the state champions and runner-up both hailed from the PSL. Coach Mike Marshalls 1999 Detroit Henry Ford Offense ZipTartarWarrior 2021-09-04 | In 1999, Detroit Henry Ford won the Detroit Public School League championship. This was Henry Ford's first title since 1993 and second for its head coach and offensive guru, Coach Mike Marshall. Coach Marshall was named the head coach at Henry Ford in the middle of the 1990 season but he continued to use his mentor's (Joe Hoskins) offensive system, which was a wing system. Despite Marshall's initial success using the Hoskins wing and winning a PSL championship in 1993, Marshall discovered there were limits to the Hoskins wing's effectiveness when the right pieces (i.e., players) were not on the field. Therefore, Marshall began to tweak the wing and in 1999 he developed the right blend of offensive schemes to match the players on the field. In 1999, Henry Ford's offense averaged 36 ppg and scored 327 points through the first nine games of the season. The 327 points scored through the first nine games was 74 points more than the next highest offensive output in 1993, which was 253 points. The difference in scoring from 1998 to 1999 was 117 points or 13 points per game. Henry Ford's offense had two Detroit News Dream Team selections in Damon Dowdell (quarterback) and Eric Knott (tight end). Dowdell passed for 2001 yards and 23 TDs and ran for 617 yards and 9 TDs. Eric Knott had 686 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. Both Dowdell and Knott signed with Michigan State University. The 1999 Henry Ford offense was one of the best offenses in the history of Detroit Public School League football and Coach Mike Marshall deserves a lot of credit for his innovation as an offensive play-caller and pure genius as a football coach.

This championship game featured many future college football players, including a future Detroit mayor (Kwame Kilpatrick).Chadsey won, 32-6. The Chadsey defense held the Technicians to less than 100 yards and zero passing yards. Chadsey's defense had an outstanding performance from senior linebacker Derrick Hicks #60. Hicks scored three defensive touchdowns (two interception returns and one fumble return) to lead Chadsey to the easy victory. Germaine Williams added two short-yardage touchdowns for Chadsey. The Cooley Cardinals (4-2) rode the talents of All-PSL running back Dion Grubbs. The Chadsey Explorers (6-0) were led on defense by All-PSL linebacker Craig Gotcher and All-PSL defensive backs Tony Jones and Renaldo Hill. The Explorers won, 20-10, and advanced to the PSL semifinals in a rematch of their PSL semifinal from the previous season against Detroit Martin Luther King.
Detroit Martin Luther King vs. Rochester Adams (2007 MHSAA Division 2 Semifinal) ZipTartarWarrior 2020-12-13 | This 2007 Division 2 semifinal pitted Rochester Adams Highlanders (11-1) versus the Detroit Martin Luther King Crusaders (13-0) in what would become an instant classic. Adams and champions of the Oakland Activities Division division earned their way to the semifinal by beating perennial high school powerhouses Warren De La Salle (6-3), Birmingham Brother Rice (8-2), and Farmington Hills Harrison (9-1). The Crusaders and champions of the Detroit Public School league earned their spot in the semifinal by beating Grosse Pointe North (6-3), Detroit Northwestern (9-1), and Dearborn (8-3). In this hard-fought game, the Crusaders pulled out the history, 14-7. The Crusaders punched their ticket to Ford Feld and the state championship game against Midland.

Henry Ford was led by senior All-PSL RB/DB Dennis Hubbard who scored the walk-off touchdown for Henry Ford in overtime. All-PSL OLB Charlie Gudger had several key sacks that changed the outcome of the game in the Trojans' favor.
Detroit Northern vs. Detroit Henry Ford (1995 PSL Quarterfinal Playoff Game) ZipTartarWarrior 2020-11-03 | In this 1995 Detroit PSL quarterfinal playoff game, the Northern Jayhawks (5-1) rode the hot hand of quarterback James Coakley to his favorite target tight end, Khari Jackson. The Henry Ford Trojans were (6-0) and ranked #8 in Class AA entered this game. The Trojans were also riding a ten-game winning streak, which included an overtime victory against Northern in week #8 of the previous season. The Trojans were led by the offensive play of seniors Shaun Black (QB) and Arnell Carmichael (WR), and emergence of junior fullback Keel Watson. Watson finished the game with 170 yards and one TD. The Trojans eventually pulled out a tough fought, 22-14 victory.
