(One of These Days edit) Lunar Caustic 2020-05-14 | Years ago, I saw the original Lunar Rover on Craigslist for $1200 ("all highway miles") and did a little digging. Turns out there is quite a lot of abandoned equipment on the moon, and in orbit too. Which is not really surprising when you think about it. All the various satellites in orbit, all the probes headed in this direction and that - maybe the "final frontier" has a backup at the on-ramp.In 2007, a decommissioned Russian satellite (named Kazak, aka "The Hound of Space") caught a whiff of some bad stuff, left orbit, and crash-landed on the moon. Ironically, Kazak's purpose was to aid in researching the problem of space junk. These devices were nicknamed "Hounds" because the tracking algorithms gave these harmless drones an unintended aggressive characteristic. Picture "weather satellite that thinks it's a battering ram".This device, all whacked-out on bad stuff, crashed close enough to Lunokhod 5 ("Lunokhod" is "Moon Walker" in Russian) to spark some sort of robo-jargon sequence of events that ends where this music starts. **SPOILER ALERT** It's not explained well in this version, but for the record, the USA wins through strength and bravado. You're welcome. It's all been heavily redacted to protect...well, everyone...and was recorded a long long time ago in a gadda da vida baby don't you know that I owe you a debt to "Sirens of Titan" by Kurt Vonnegut? It appears on their May 2019 release, Drone Activity. I do not own the rights to this music.I placed a fairly small sound source near an open fire, with a pair of modest-quality mics on the opposite side. I found that the quality of the captured music didn't hold up to my imagined goal (not surprising, given the equipment on hand for this exercise), and so I blended in an unedited copy of the original track. Which is surely blasphemy to some brand of purists of the field (pun intended).The texture in the resulting audio was inspired by true events and edited for headphones.
