Airports amaze me. There’s something exciting and wondrous about them. When I was a kid, I would be just as excited to go to the airport and fly in a plane, than I was to get to where we were going.
My favourite thing to do in an airport is to people watch. So many strangers weaving in and out of each other with their own individual destination, their own individual mission, living their own individual story.
I wish I could ask everyone some questions without raising suspicions as to why a strange man wants to know where they are going? Who or what are they heading to? And are they heading towards or away from where they call home?
I wonder how often they fly, Are they feeling excited, nervous, or stressed? Maybe they travel so much that they are actually feeling bored, or maybe it’s their first time and are more scared they have been in their life.
I wonder what travel will be like in the future.
I bet 100 years ago, people would have never believed that we would have it so easy getting to places so fast.
Most airports you can travel to over 181 cities, with a plane taking off and landing every 45 seconds, it’s amazing.
Airports are amazing. They are like an international equivalent of no mans land. A familiar place. Where we are all just people of the world, making our way somewhere.
When I turned 10, I had yet to learn life’s wonders, All I really cared was that my age now had two numbers. I remember enjoying each birthday with no thought as to what it all actually meant. Just food and fun and friends, that yearly event.
I didn’t think ahead, I didn’t think back, I would just enjoy my day, But by the time I turned 20, I would see things a different way. Things had happened. Some good. Some bad. Some life changing. But not right away. They were the kind of lessons that climb into your mind, and hideaway like a stowaway.
But anyway, back to my birthday, as that’s what this is about, I am now turning 30 and I have this feeling of doubt, that I’m not ready.
There’s this saying, that ‘your twenties are for working out what to do with your life, and your thirties are for doing it’. Let’s just say I am well and truly poo-ing it. As I don’t have a clue and tomorrow I’m 30, And the thoughts of who I thought I’d be, really start to hurt me. Where’s my ideal job, where’s my ideal wife, where’s my ideal dog and where’s my ideal life?
I am older than my parents were when they bought their house and had me. But I still feel just the same as I did when I was twenty, and I’m not just getting older, I’m getting anxiety...
CHORUS: Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older, too
And that’s when they awaken, those stowaway lessons, learnt a long time ago, now making their impressions.
It is not normal to be 13 and have a friend the same age be taken from this earth. Or to have the same thing happen at 16, 17 and 19, it doesn’t get much worse. To come into school to tears and an empty chair in the room, All our lives just the same, but theirs is over too soon.
But I continued to grow, and despite blow after blow, I learnt from the grief, switching life from slow to turbo. Living day by day, each one with the potential to be the last piece of the puzzle. So why live life like a pre-made playlist, when you can keep it on shuffle.
But now I’m turning 30, and I’m still fooling around, And I now feel bad that I’ve never settled down. I’ve never settled on anything. Going from job to job, house to house, No signs of security, a career or a spouse. And now I feel bad, that my life has no direction, I still feel like I’m 20 and don’t recognise my reflection.
And that’s when they awaken, those stowaway lessons, learnt a long time ago, now making their impressions.
Reminding me I am happy to be 30. Reminding me I am lucky to be 30. Reminding me that some people in my life never got to be 30...
CHORUS: Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Not all children get older Though I'm getting older, still
So thinking about it, I am grateful for every one of my 30 years, Every one of my 360 months, Every one of my 11,000 days, Because there are billions of ways, to live your life, Just as long as you appreciate that you actually get to live it.
When I turned 10, I had yet to learn life’s wonders, But now I’m turning 30, I know that the numbers don’t matter. Because we don’t celebrate the age we have become, we celebrate the time we have had, and that with each new day, you are always luckier than some...
CHORUS: Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Not all children get older Though I'm getting older, still
Words: I enjoy having time to myself. It’s not a shy thing or an anti-social thing; it’s just an introvert thing.
We’re the type who need to be alone, on our own, Our biggest gripe is to read ‘unknown’ on our phone. Because it’s like no one understands, that having bread sticks and Netflix still counts as having plans, I’ll expand…
A plan by definition, is an intention or decision, that you’ve planned in advance, and so, if by chance I should answer, that I’m busy all night, know that binging on a series just might be alright.
We just do what makes us feel good, we’re far from depressed, we’re actually the opposite, less likely to be stressed. It takes less to make us happy; we’re ok by ourselves, because we’re friends with our thoughts, and the books on our shelves.
Just leave us in peace, avoid knocking our doors, any unexpected guests will get ignored on all fours.
We can be chatty when we want to, just not groups that are large, as socializing drains us and then we have to recharge. I mean, we still go to parties, but we keep our friends by our side, and we'd always head home early if we weren't waiting for a ride.
Because sometimes it’s tough, and sometimes it hurts, to live in a world designed for extroverts, from classrooms to open offices, we don’t see the attraction, we do all our best work when we’re free from distraction.
We rely on solitude, it’s where we work and we grow, like so many introverts you might happen to know,
JK Rowling, Dr. Seuss, bill gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Einstein, Gandhi, the amount is absurd, so many quiet choices with voices still heard! Let’s whisper to the rooftops that introvert’s just a word.
So never feel bad when you want to go hide, as the world may just need what is growing inside, Taking shelter in our minds is what keeps us alive, just like turtles need their shells if they want to survive.
We’re not sad or depressed, we’re happier this way; we just want to be alone for a while. And that is OK.
This is where we live. All 7.5 Billion of us. But most of the people that live here, you will never get to meet. Even if you wanted to, you couldn't. That is because we humans have an average life span of 28,000 days. To get to know everyone, you would have to meet 270,000 new people, every single day, of your entire life. I guess what I am trying to say, is that although you will never meet all the different people that inhabit this planet; they are here, just like you, divided by lines that we humans drew. They have the same amount of time here as you do, They have the same heart pumping blood as you do, And they have the same rights to live their one life, as you do. Although, many people will have you believe differently. This last year, has been a year of divisions, Where the fate of our lives were bound by decisions. Putting people into boxes with only one you can choose, Where no matter who wins, someone will lose. We’ve been split down the middle, too close to call, we need to come together, we’ve no need to build a wall. We get told things are terrible, that things should be great, But things would be better if we stopped breeding hate. We are equals, we are all made the same, Nobody comes second to power or fame. We need to be governed, so we have to play along, But those who think they’re always right, Well that is where they’re wrong. If you need to change the lives of happy people, for you to be happy, then maybe it’s your life that needs to change. Because good people are not the minority; and hope is more powerful than fear. I believe that everyone wants to be happy. That we are all optimistic, compassionate, and loving by nature. It’s what makes us human. To be able to make rational choices. To be able to be confronted with something that we don’t like, and have the ability to choose whether to be fearful, or hopeful. Every person is 1 of 7.5 Billion who happen to be alive right now. Every stranger is 1 of 270,000; you will never know each day. And every day is 1 of 28,000 you will never see again. So no matter how terrible 2016 was, or how scary 2017 might seem, open your mind, accept other people, and know that the only different people on this planet will be those in 100 years time, when this world will be home to entirely different people. Life goes on. Don't waste it being angry. Let’s make the most of the miracle, that is being here, right now, together.
I always put things off. I leave things to the last minute and then regret it. There are even times when I have something I need to do, And it’s something I want to do, And as I’m about to see it through, It seems like anything else will do.
Because I am a procrastinator, I put things off and say ‘I’ll do it later’; I am my own manipulator, Tricking myself that time is on my side, When it’s not.
Because I am a time evaporator, I put things off and say ‘I’ll do it later’; I am a distraction generator, Finding anything and everything to do, Except that one thing.
I am an attention detonator, I put things off and say ‘I’ll do it later’; I need a focus investigator, Because I am a perpetrator of crimes against productivity.
I play it as cool as a refrigerator, I put things off and say ‘I’ll do it later’; I am a panic operator, I wait until the last minute until fear gets things done, But what if there is no last minute, No deadlines to make us panic, Then what?
We would just continue forward forever, Where we’d sit distracted by leisure, Chasing goals we will never treasure.
But we are all procrastinators. At risk of living life in line like spectators. Wanting to have done things more than do them, But we do things more once we’ve done them.
So let’s stop putting things off and become life activators, time dedicators, opportunity creators, and do more.
Life is there for the taking, but you have to take it, if you want to make it. Life can be rewarding, but there is no award for ambitions ignored.
Whether it’s that project you’ve yet to finish, Or that work you’ve yet to start, be smart.
Good things DO NOT come to those who wait, So don’t leave it to fate, your life deserves to be great, Be the best version of you, before it’s too late.
And if your attention ever fades, focus on this old thought, That time is a thief that never gets caught.
Sophie is 8, she loves animals (friendly ones), she loves stories (scary ones), and she loves trees (like every tree she sees). But more than these, her most favouritest thing of all, is to draw.
She would draw more than any child had drawn before. Close her door, sit on the floor, let mind explore, and just draw.
She would draw animals (friendly ones), she would draw stories (scary ones), and she would draw trees, (just so many trees).
Until one day she felt too sick to draw. She remembers before, the doctor she saw, said the medicine might make it hard to draw.
She couldn’t finish her animals (the friendly ones) She couldn’t finish her stories (the scary ones) She couldn’t finish her trees, all because this inconsiderate disease.
All her drawing desires, replaced with needles and wires, and going weeks without seeing a tree, All those times feeling inspired, replaced with feeling tired, Just laying there wondering why me?
To be 8, and not get to go outside, To be 8, and live where sickness cannot hide, To be 8, and to be told regularly that your friend has just died. You would be scared too. And whether you are 8 or 88, know that cancer does not discriminate.
But we live in an age where we can treat it. We can be tough like Sophie and beat it. And together, if we raise enough money, we could defeat it.
Because those in need rely on us (the friendly ones) To help them make it through the day (the scary ones) and rid the world of this disease, because there are just too many trees that need drawing.
Words: So it’s 2016, the year of bad news, from terrorism to racism, and accidents in zoos, So many great stars, that we’ll never get back, and now, the death, of the headphone jack.
How dare Apple decide this little plugs fate, Poor old jack’s been around since 1878. They say it’s time to do more, to start a new chapter, but jack can adapt, without an adaptor. He fits all my devices, no matter the brand, so why take him away, I don’t understand, im not ready right now, to say my goodbye
‘Goodbye little Jacky, I’m gonna miss you so bad.’
Jack is our friend, he’s nothing too frightening, unlike this powerful version you like to call lightning, Look, I love the iPhone, I’m certainly no hater, but if I went wireless, I’d feel like a traitor. I am thankful for those wires that deliver my sound, always saving my phone from hitting the ground But my biggest of fears, is if my Uber’s unable, to hook me on up, with the right aux cable.
‘Don’t hit the road, Jack.’
I’ve stuck with my phone, through the rise and the falls, But I use the jack more often than I even make calls, I’m going to miss you buddy, I just want you to know, No matter what Jack, I’ll never let go.
Words: We were waiting for the bus to Ealing Broadway. I spotted you right away. Ankle swingers, wooly scarf, headphones, book bag, bracelets, big eyes and little nose. So Independent. So original. So unknown. Feet up at the front of the bus. I catch your eyes in the reflection of the glass, but were they aimed at me? Why do I do this? I know I'll never see you again so what's the fear? Why can't I just ask your name? Why is that so weird? Why can't I just this once embrace the doubt and break the curse and take the risk that I might just make my life better with no risk of making it worse. Why do I do this? To be lost and not found. I write about people, just to keep them around. I should title this poem after you too, and hope that it leads to seeing you again. But this piece is untitled, because I never asked your name.
Special thanks to Daniel Cobb, Liam Turk, Ellie Roome, Hannah Jackson, Graeme Turk, Steve Nutley, Chris Eyles & David Rowett.
The words:
Robert Frost took the road less travelled. Henry David Thoreau took a walk in the woods and came out feeling taller than the trees. Me… I used to run.
I would run so far that when I looked back at my parents they had almost disappeared. My dad would catch up to me with that face every child feared, But for a moment; I was free.
Free to be me, In the woods beneath the trees, surrounded 360 degrees by nature.
It is in our nature, to want to be wild, To get a closer look, let out our inner-child. To feel wonder, and excitement, to dream big and take aim. We should accept this gift that is ours to claim.
We are animals, Trapped inside cages we built for ourselves. And instead of tearing them down, we are putting up shelves. But why? We should be exploring new lands, Instead we watch the world through a window, That we keep in our hands.
To see things for the first time. To see things as they are, and always have been. To get lost, and still feel at home. That is what it means, To be outdoors.
To get excited over the little things, Never new, never old, available to all. Like a child diving for coins at the bottom of a pool, Reach for all that you can, in the short time that you have. As, in the end, our lives will be made of the moments we remember.
Like the moment you got caught in the rain, and didn’t go inside until it stopped. Or the time you picked bright flowers and wore each petal till it dropped. The moment you swam naked in the ocean, when no one was around, Or the time you stood above the clouds, yet never left the ground.
This world is beautiful, and we take it for granted. We wrap ourselves in cities where nature was once planted. But the real world is untouched, and it’s just so much greater, Don’t put off seeing it now, in the hope you’ll see it later. It won’t always be here, it’s alive, needs looking after, Climate change is an issue that’s too often met with laughter. By people, who choose money over life, Over beauty. Caring for the planet is not a choice, it’s our duty.
Because if we tear it all down, and don’t give it respect, Don’t preserve our resources, or do are best to protect, It will come after us, down this same beaten track, The hand that feeds, biting us right back.
To be outdoors is to be together. To be outdoors is to be interconnected with everyone and everything. To be outdoors is to never be alone. So be outdoors, and let it be known, You are here.
Don’t sit still, Pull at nature’s strings, Make new discoveries, Learn new things.
Accept the journey, And carve this into wood; There is no getting anywhere, Without making the getting there good.

‘It’s Your Future’ is a film about getting involved and playing an active part in democracy. Politics affects everyone, especially young people. No matter how disengaged you feel, the only way to make a difference is to take action. For change to begin, you must make your voice heard.
I didn’t go and vote, I didn’t pay attention, I didn’t really care at what age people got their pension. That seemed ages away, I was just starting out, I really had no interest in what politics was about.
But I should have, the young are most affected, Most 18 to 24s don’t care who gets elected. And I’m not surprised, I once felt that way too, Why vote for a system that doesn’t represent you?
Middle aged, middle classed, old men in old buildings, Too posh and too rich to care about the small things. From the same schools and same clubs, to same suits and same tailors, To the same privileged upbringings with no experience of failures.
When we see them answer questions, a chance they should be seizing, They forget about us, and resort to playground teasing. Like children, taking part in a food fight, Wasting words that have power on a false appetite, that lies. That only wants first prize. That cares less about its people and more what power buys.
But the government works for you, and this can all be resolved, If you stand up for what you believe in, and do your part to get involved. There is strength in your numbers, you are not the minority, You only feel this way as you’ve been made a low priority, By politicians, who are chasing the vote. They wont try and please you if they think there’s no hope.
So prove them all wrong, prove you have a voice, Do the unexpected and accept you have a choice. And vote, but first find out the truth, Look at their policies and how it affects the youth.
This world is yours to inherit, it’s more your future than theirs, Don’t let your life be dictated by the old and billionaires.
It’s the young that pay tuition, it’s the young that fight the wars, It’s the young who need jobs, or could end up living outdoors. It’s the young who adopt the planet, it’s the young who clean up the mess, It’s the young who care for the old, so why do the young vote less?
You have a say, that needs to be respected, People are dying for the right to have a leader that’s elected. So register to vote, be a part of democracy, Doing nothing and complaining is outright hypocrisy.
You don’t have to be a whisper, your voices are real, You can be the generation that creates a better deal. If you want to make a difference, you have to grow up, Our country’s fate is decided by those who show up.
‘Live Rich’ is a film about our relationship with money in a world where we are always being sold to, and how the most important things in life can't be bought.
