room2zoomI review the wooden swing set bracket choices, and explain in detail the factors you need to consider in purchasing the steel brackets for your swing set project. I have been making swing sets and professionally installing them for the last 7 years.
The swing set brackets are far and away the most important choice you make for your swing set. They alone determine how strong and stable your play set will be, and whether the legs lift up when the kids are swinging. They also can make your project so much less time consuming, or the opposite, so frustrating. A free-standing swing set depends entirely on the brackets. There's really no other bracket that comes close to delivering both the ease of installation and the resulting a-frame structure stability.
You can visit http://www.room2zoom.com for videos of how our swing set brackets are installed, and to purchase these brackets. Here's to minimal labor, ecstatic kids, and a strong and good-looking set! Let them ZOOM!
One nice thing to mention about our brackets is that they will work great with a composite beam made from three 2x6 boards that you screw together with 3" deck screws. Nowadays with the lumber shortages it can be tougher to find a suitable 4x6 piece of lumber to use for your swing set's beam. So this is a nice option, and the resulting beam wont twist or crack much like some 4x6 lumber will.

Wobble-Free.room2zoom2024-08-09 | These swing set brackets, with a patent pending, will give you a snug, wobble-free bracket-to-leg fit every time. Nearly all other swing set brackets in the marketplace will make a swing set with a lot of side to side wobble. And the taller the swing set the more wobble you will see. All swing sets have a bit of side to side sway, from things like just the leg lumber itself flexing a bit, but with these brackets you will not see the leg lumber wobbling inside the bracket like you will see with other brackets. And made in the U.S.A., these brackets have twice the amount of steel of other brackets. And with a 60 degree angle between the legs of the bracket your swing set will not rock and lift up either, like sets made with other brackets will. And the brackets will fit a top beam of any width--they fit 5 1/2" tall lumber, but the width can be any. Which means you are not limited to just 4x6 lumber for the beam if you'd like to use 6x6 lumber, or a composite beam made of three 2x6's. The brackets ship with all the black Torx structural fasteners needed, and the Torx bit also. The only fasteners not included are the two carriage bolts, with washer and lock nut, needed for each bracket--the reason for these not being included is that different width beams require different width carriage bolts. And THANK YOU for your patronage over these years! How to Make a Big Swing Set - How to Make the Longer Beam Neededroom2zoom2023-05-26 | If you're designing and wanting to build a DIY wood swing set that needs a longer beam, up to 14 feet long, I will show you here how you can easily make your own beam from 2x6 lumber. This also comes in handy if you just can't find decent lumber for any size beam. A beam made from three or four 2x6 boards will not crack, split, and twist like a long 4x6 or 6x6 beam might. And many different selections of 2x6 lumber are usually readily available at your local hardware store, from which you can choose the nicest pieces, to end up with the nicest looking beam. Another reason for a beam like this is nowadays it is more popular to design a wooden swing set / play set with an overhang on one end for attaching more play apparatus'. Because of all the varying lumbers (and their respective strength and stiffness) there are out there I can't give you exact rules and limitations, but in general you do not want to go longer than a 13 foot beam or so made out of three 2x6 boards, or a 14 foot beam or so made out of four 2x6 boards. If you are extending an overhang on one end you can overhang 3 or 4 feet, so your 13 foot beam, for instance, which includes the brackets, now becomes a 16 or 17 foot beam that you make. PLEASE keep in mind that this beam will be quite heavy, and you will need plenty of able-bodied adults to safely stand the swing set A-frame up after you build it on the ground.

And THANK YOU for your patronage over these years!Give the Kids Some Shade! How to Easily Make a Roof for your Wood Swing Set with a Shade Sailroom2zoom2023-05-13 | I'll show you here how to easily make a DIY roof for your wooden A-frame swing set. It can get kinda hot out there, swinging under the sun, and kids will appreciate a little shade. This roof idea will work just as well for a A-frame swing set that has no deck on it as it does for a play set that does have a deck or clubhouse. If you are trying to provide shade for a swing set without a deck you can just use a little bit bigger shade sail to cover a bit more of the swing set, or put one of these on each side of the swing set, or use a rectangular shaped shade sail that will extend across the whole swing set. One of the best things about these shade sails is that they are very durable and hold up to wind and weather extremely well. Making a roof like this is not only a hundred times easier than building a roof out of wood, but it is also about the only way that you can put a roof over just an A-frame swing set structure. One thing to point out is that this swing set is made with A-frame brackets that have a wider and preferable 60 degree angle between the legs, which also makes the roof extend out more and provide more shade. If you end up using the more commonly found brackets with just a 45 degree angle between the legs, you'll want to make the copper poles longer to get the same shade coverage.

And THANK YOU for your patronage over these years!Build the Scallywag TALL Wood Swing Set - Introduction PART 1 - Get Kids Swinging Quick!room2zoom2022-12-03 | TWO SUGGESTED MODIFICATIONS: This set is so much fun! I suggest two modifications to what is seen in the video. First, in the video it shows the beam overhanging on one end 30" past the bracket. I suggest making the overhang 42" instead. This greater overhang gives you some more options for what accessories you can put on this overhang, and where you can hang them. This also reduces the span of the beam between the two brackets from 13 1/2 feet to 12 1/2 feet. This lets you then make the composite beam out of three 2x6's instead of the four 2x6's as shown in the video. Three is plenty for this new span, and the set is easier to stand up than when made with a beam of four. Even with this change there is no change to any of measurements of where you place the swings on the beam. You place them at the same measurements from the end of the beam as shown on the video--there had existed an extra foot of unneeded space between the swings and the deck as shown in the video. So summing up, the only two suggested changes are to make the beam of three 2x6's, with a new overhang of 42" past the bracket.
This video is the Introduction to the DIY Scallywag backyard play set, and how to build it. See PART 2 (see link below) of this video for step by step, how to make this CRAZY FUN Swing Set. One of the beauties of this construction is you can build the A-frame structure with the swings in a few hours and get the kids swinging! You can then work on the rest of it while they swing.

PART 2 of Build the Scallywag TALL Wood Swing Set -- youtu.be/7OdtflSwJj4DIY Swing Set Build — LUMBER PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS!room2zoom2022-01-20 | It can be tough nowadays, depending on where you live in the country, to find suitable 4x6 lumber for the beam of your swing set project. One good solution is to make your own composite beam from three (or more) 2x6 boards screwed together with deck screws. Not only is 2x6 lumber very readily available everywhere, but with much more selection to pick from you can choose the nicest lumber to work with. As a bonus, a composite beam like this will not crack or twist much, as most 4x6 lumber can. The swing set A-frame brackets shown in this video are great in that they will fit any width beam, not just a 4x6 beam, so they will work great with a composite beam like these. The brackets also give you the freedom to design your A-frame structure with stronger beams for more weight capacity if you desire. It is always the beam that determines the weight capacity of any A-frame structure. You can visit room2zoom.com for complete instructions and videos for making several awesome swing sets, and for how to work with these swing set brackets. Kids just want to swing! A heavy-timbered set, easily made with these brackets will outlast all the other sets. These swing set brackets are the easiest to work with, making your project go smooth. But with 60 degrees between the legs of the brackets, so that the swing set will not rock, and heavy duty 1/8" steel--twice that of other brackets--your swing set will turn out great. Let them ZOOM!
