1980 Doctor Who Theme - Full Uncut Remix The Restoration of Dr Who 2023-07-25 | The master mix for the 1980 Doctor Who theme tune that we know and love today is actually shorter than it originally was. Originally, the finished mix included a build-up at the beginning of white-noise and the first notes of the bassline heavily processed.But it was later decided when pairing it with the titles that it was simply too long to wait for the theme tune to start. This noise ended up being cut down and put right at the end just before the explosion. Doctor Who Theme | 1980 Bassline Recreation Full The Restoration of Dr Who 2021-11-28 | 6 years in the making.This has become well rounded enough for me to consider this a success.I don’t see any reason to continue recording new versions from this point on.The layers in this version were recorded at the end of last month, the bass naked on the 27th and bass lurch on the 31st, and the majority of the mixing and editing was done just recently. I managed to eventually get the heartbeat emphasis in there in the end, but it is very deep in the mix and is only there to add the smallest amount of kick to the bassline in a set-up where sub-frequencies are important. To top it all off I put some tape hiss in there to keep that analogue feel overall.The main drive behind this has always been that it’s a hobby of mine, and that I would gain a great amount of gratification if I could pull something like this off, and actually capture that Howell sound. But I’ve realised the by-product of this is that it now provides people with an accurate and authentic recreation of this particular bassline, for those who may not be as fortunate to own the actual original. A lot of time and dedication has gone into this. 1980 Doctor Who Theme Remix | Beats by Dr Howell - Revised The Restoration of Dr Who 2021-05-14 | 5 years ago this was arguably the best remix I’d ever done, according to a lot of my followers responses at the time. It was the first major “remix” I’d actually ever done, and it later inspired a lot of my other works. 3 years ago I attempted to redo this to basically try and make it sound better. I still wasn’t happy with it, and I feel that now is the perfect time to revisit it as I feel much more capable of creating the sound I originally wanted.I really hope that this has perfected what people once thought was already perfect. 1980 Doctor Who Theme - Layer Recreation 2 The Restoration of Dr Who 2021-03-27 | Take a piece of paper, tear that paper into the smallest pieces you possibly can. Now imagine that’s the complex sound for the bassline that Peter Howell put together. Take another piece of paper and try tearing it in the EXACT same way so that all the tiny pieces look exactly the same as the ones in the old pile. Sounds impossible? Well, it almost is. But if you sit there long enough, for hours or days on end, you might just be able to make that second pile look extremely close to the old one.Now pour water on the old pile and sprinkle some dirt on it, those are the filters and other layers for the bassline on top of it. Pour water and sprinkle dirt over the second pile, if you didn’t tear it the same way or into pieces as small, it’ll look different when wet and the texture the dirt creates will look different.That’s what it’s like trying to remake something as complex as the bassline Peter Howell made. For my new bassline, my main source of reference was exclusively a raw unfiltered unedited segment that reveals in full what the CS-80 would have been producing when he recorded the bassline live. From there, once you’ve taken the time to get that almost perfect, the layers that come after will build up the full sound, but if any aspects of the raw sound are different, the full edited sound will be off. The raw unfiltered bassline naked has helped me out so much, and let me hear certain things that might get lost in the full mix otherwise. Long story short, I spent a very long time totally re-doing this sound on the ME80, and played it completely live as close as possible to how Howell would have done it. The other new parts are the brass which I did on the ME80. All other parts are place holders, ESPECIALLY the original vocoder which there’s no way in hell I’ll ever get around to doing. They’re here simply to fill in the holes. Although, I’m still missing a couple things that I will eventually get around to, including the sine wobble, no idea how I’d do the match strike SFX tracks though....Very special thanks to Simon Bowser for the sting recreation demo. ©️ TRODW Remixes & Remasters 2021
1980 Doctor Who Theme Remix - Howell Retrospectively The Restoration of Dr Who 2021-02-28 | I started this project on the 30th January, and it’s taken me just about a month to put together.I also managed to max out the limit of tracks that GarageBand allows for, which is 32, with countless separate layers of samples within each track. I did stall for a while, and kept getting stuck on certain parts (I call it remixers block) but eventually got an end product I’m happy with. The soul of this project, I feel, was to be as creative as possible using mainly just the material Howell made, with smaller additions of my own whilst trying to keep it all in the same style and feeling. 1980 Doctor Who Theme - Demonstrational Layer Recreation The Restoration of Dr Who 2020-12-16 | Recreating the Howell bassline isn’t simple no matter what way you look at it. There are many levels of detail that need to be taken into consideration, and if any are overlooked or not paid attention to, the end product will definitely feel like it’s missing something. Who knows how long Howell spent messing around with the CS-80, making fine adjustments to all the settings that without seeing how he had it set up, we have to do absolutely everything by ear. Whilst what I have here, as well as a few other basic demo layers to accompany the bassline, still don’t sound exactly the same, I believe it can’t get an awful lot better for the sound of the bassline. It’s simply impossible to reach the exact same sound as a real CS-80 for something like this, and even with a real CS-80 it would be just as difficult to get all the settings to create the exact same sound Peter Howell made, CS-80s were very temperamental and since they were entirely analogue even two identical CS-80s sounded just a bit different from each other. The middle 8s in particular are just there as sort of filler material as they aren’t really worth being called recreations, and the brass sections aren’t amazing either. Bassline Naked was done in one take live to 140 bpm in FL Studio using the ME-80 VST.Everything else was done on my iPad including the Bassline Lurch on the MiniMoog, again live, as well as the melody sine on the MiniMoog as well. All vocoder sections have been left out as I can’t recreate them close enough and they’d just be distracting. No MIDIs were used for any of the layers, everything was recorded live.I am likely to redo the bassline many times and may upload another version in the future.©️TRODW Remixes and Remasters 2020.

A New Landing - The Ventures Below The Restoration of Dr Who 2018-07-01 | Good after morning noon everyone! I am here today to present to you what I believe to be some of my finest work. There will be dislikes, but there will also be likes, but what matters is wether or not you guys enjoy it and enjoy the uniqueness and single creativeness of this piece.This piece of work in particular has taken me the longest to put together. With midi tracks being created on both my Mac and iPad, and a little (sarcasm) sprinkle of samples over top. My Mac died a while ago (well the hard drive corrupted and needs fixing) I managed to get an export of my midi stuff before it died and continued my work on my iPad. This is the first time I’ve really gone into the world of Gold styled stuff, meaning like real sounding instruments including violins and trumpets. I’ve stayed away from them mostly since I really wasn’t confident with them, but here I am and might I say this sounds fantastic (of course it does to me I made it haha).In short I just hope you guys enjoy this as much as I do and keep up the long winded support you’ve all given me. 1980 Peter Howell Doctor Who Theme Remix - For The Millionth Time The Restoration of Dr Who 2018-04-28 | That's right, you waited this long for another damn Howell remix 😂. Don't worry though, it's intentional. My last Howell remix didn't seem to live up to my own expectations, and a few months allowed me to figure out how to make it sound less messy. Since my last remix I've actually acquired a few more samples allowing me to mix it much more accurately to Howells original. I plan to stay away from generic remixes for a while, and I hope to start doing much more creative work soon. 1980 Peter Howell - Full Theme Stereo Remaster 2018 The Restoration of Dr Who 2017-12-22 | As an early Christmas present, I thought I'd give you guys my Howell remix for next year. Each year I get better at my remixing and the Howell theme shows this the best. You could almost say this title sequence is Christmassy couldn't you? If you compare this to my previous remix, there are plenty changes and fixes. This theme is just too lovely and I can't help myself when it comes to remixing it! If I hit 800, what do you guys suggest I do for it? Again, I hope you guys enjoy this, and despite the fact I said my last upload would probably be the last for this year, rule #1 The Doctor lies! Dominic Glynn - Opening and Closing Theme Remaster The Restoration of Dr Who 2017-12-20 | Hi everyone. Haven't done much with the Glynn theme, so I thought I'd do the opening and closing versions. These use some new samples and redone equalization of the samples. If anyone wants me to do this for the Howell theme as well, let me know. Beats by Dr Howell - Theme Remix Redone The Restoration of Dr Who 2017-07-31 | Here it is, the second version I've wanted to upload for ages. This one I want you all to enjoy because I've made sure that it's just like you remember with the original I made around a year ago! Things have changed and that's partly because GarageBand has changed and just because I wanted it to differ from the last version in subtle ways. It's got that awesome bassline kick at the start that wasn't there in the original. All samples are newer versions of that used in the last remix to enhance the listening experience. I've completely reworked this entire remix so nothing is lazily copied over structure wise from the original.
