Learn a New Language Challenge and The Genius+ Story
updated
He took on Mandarin in Add1Challenge #5 (#A1C5) and WON the Add1 Finale prize of a round trip ticket to Beijing :)
Here is a short 2 min video that Jake made himself with some of the cool things he saw and him having conversations in Mandarin!
Jake is now currently in #A1C9, learning German from zero and he is rocking German in the Add1!
I thought, why not have a hangout with Jake so we can ask him some questions on how he is thriving so well in the Add1Challenge.
One winner will be able to experience their beloved country and use the language the worked so hard on in the Add1Challenge, first hand. Jake Brown, won the first ever Add1 Finale round trip ticket and he made this awesome video from his trip :)
If you like to finally get breakthrough results in learning to speak your target language, sign up and get notify when we open for application next time at: http://Add1Challenge.com
PS: Jake's mom is not Chinese and can't speak Chinese. All other expenses are not included, just the round trip flight ticket :)
Knowing this, I still took on the Add1 because I knew I would speak more Romanian than if I didnt take it on for sure. So I will just take it one day at at time even though my progress is slow :)
Masa is one of my favorite sensei, its easy to speak with her and she speaks slowly and clearly with lots of patients. Learn Japanese with her here! http://www.italki.com/teacher/1129869?ref=1149208brian
If you like to book with Yuri (She is great!) Here is her profile link:

In the next video, you will how it's like riding a bicycle through the madness of the streets in Saigon!
I just realized that Kevin said "maid" cafe and I thought he was saying "male" cafe the whole time LOL
This is a great way to practice your target language, make friends and have a blast with other add1challengers!
There are some instructions in the Add1Challenge private forum but there is no set way to do this. Just practice what you know to say in your target language and have a good time :)
Start date: Jan 20th - April 15th
I will study one hour a day until I get to Japan (date to be confirmed)
Stake: Each day I missed, I will find a random person in Japan to slap me on video lol (i may miss for fun now lol)

My test, which is a 15min live Japanese and German conversation will happen in the below time:
Japanese @ 13:15 Austria time
German @ 21:00 Austria time
My punishment will happen at 21:00
(I had a bit of wine before I made this video so I am a bit red :))
This was just for fun :) Its about having a good time together with language learners in the Add1Challenge and italki teachers :)
The list of English words originated from Japanese words is very limited compare to the other way around, so we used words that came from Japan or created by Japanese :)
Most Japanese that we asked to make this video were a little bit reserve, so all the non-Japanese has to dress up in this video.
With that in mind, these iTalki Japanese teachers are AWESOME! If you want to learn Japanese, I would highly recommend them, here are their italki profile links:
Yuri made this video possible as she helped coordinated with all the other Japanese teachers, thank you Yuri! http://www.italki.com/teacher/1043800?ref=1149208

This is my day 51 learn German #add1challenge update and I shared a quick mistake that I made during the challenge but I sorta have to do it. And the reason why I chose two languages, learning Japanese and learning German at the same time.
Its not an earth shattering update but remember, slow and steady is the way to go!

We know that her French is not amazing or anything, but this just shows that if you learn consistently inside a structure, its possible to have more progress than you think you can achieve.
Julia definitely surprised me, even though she said knowing Italian helped her, but its still an achievement in 30 days. From never spoken French with a French person before to be able to carry a short conversation.

Although my German is far from "Good" or even "Okay", I am comfortable to have a conversation with anyone now :)
If you want to learn a language but have not had your first conversation with a language partner, what are you waiting for?
Time to step up and go for it! You will be glad that you did.
Thank you Noah for practicing French with Julia!

I understand many of you have a routine of not miss a day, everyone is jiggling, trying to find the time to learn on top of everything that we need to do.
For me, the first two weeks of the +1 challenge was not easy, I had to find time to try to fit it in my schedule, it was not regular, I didn't learn the way i wanted to learn in those hours.
but Now I m on a 22 days streak and let me tell you, its getting easier and easier. You can do it too when you build a habit and stick to it long enough!

Google translate is actually not bad most of the time for Japanese if you are using it for single words, but bad translation still happens as you will see in this video.
