1976 Magnavox TV With Built-In Pong Game The Dot Eaters 2021-01-29 | The introduction of this 1976 Magnavox TV with built-in Pong type game was the fruition of a dream by Ralph Baer, inventor of the first video game console, Odyssey. Odyssey was released in 1972 by Magnavox, but Baer had originally envisioned a TV set with a built-in electronic ping-pong game. He wasn't able to convince his then employer, Loral, to go with the design, and he eventually moved to military contractor Sanders, where he developed the prototype of the Odyssey, which was eventually licensed to Magnavox. But, the Couch Potato (called 'The Complete Vegetable') stubbornly stayed on store shelves, and Coleco the company was cancelled by bankruptcy in 1988.
