Gradius Advance (Game Boy Advance) - 1 Credit Challenge MarcBlaster The Gamer 2023-08-18 | In this video, I am doing a 1 Credit Challenge of a game that is one of my favorite Konami scrolling shooters of all-time. That game is: Gradius Advance for the Game Boy Advance. This game was developed by Mobile21 and published by Konami, it was released in 2001. It was released later in the same month in the United States as Gradius Galaxies and in 2002 in Japan as Gradius Generation. It is the only Gradius title available for the Game Boy Advance. The game's plot is set between Gradius III and Gradius Gaiden. Bacterion was developing a powerful weapon to use against the planet Gradius, but it was destroyed. A few years later it crashed on a planet and the planet gradually changed into a mechanical fortress. The planet Gradius then sent the Vic Viper to stop it. Gradius Advance is a horizontally scrolling shooter game. For this video, I am going to use the default settings, which is Normal difficulty and three lives to see how far I can get with 1 credit. The game play is almost identical to other titles in the series. The player takes control of the Vic Viper spacecraft tasked with destroying hordes of enemies. Various traditional elements of Gradius are present — the moai, an undefended final boss, and the upgrade power meter. The weapons system remained mostly unchanged as the configurations available are identical to Gradius III, with the exception that the edit mode is missing. There are four different types of weapons configurations: Balanced, (traditional Gradius) wide area (Salamander) power, and air-to-ground. Each configuration is indicated by the color of Vic Viper. Unlike Gradius III, there are only two shield options — shield and force field. In addition, the S. option ("snake option") is not present in this version; the player can however choose to have the computer assign weapon power-ups automatically or purchase upgrades manually. The game's configuration allows the player to choose between three difficulty modes, with each mode consisting of three loops — progressively more difficult play-throughs that are unlocked as previous loops are cleared. The Japanese version further included a challenge game play mode that had to be unlocked by achieving a high score during a single play-through of the game's normal difficulty mode. Additional challenges could then by unlocked by completing other challenges. The challenge mode was absent from the U.S. and European releases due to the game being released in Japan several months later. About my run on Gradius Advance: Unlike the other Gradius games from Konami are very difficult, especially in the later levels. Although the third stage in this game is hard, because I lost a life at the middle of this section and the third boss named Volleone (Fire Lion) is quite tough. Unfortunately I couldn't defeat it, but at least I tried my best. Overall, Gradius Advance is a very fun shoot 'em up game that was only released for the handheld and I enjoyed it. If you haven't played the Gradius games before, I highly recommend to give this game a try. It's awesome! So I thought I would check it out. That game is: Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen for the Arcade. This game was developed and published by Nichibutsu, it was released in the Arcade in 1987, but only in Japan. This game was also known as: Booby Kids (Famicom), Cratermaze (TurboGrafx-16/PC-Engine), Booby Boys (Game Boy). The arcade version was also re-released for the PlayStation 4 in 2016 and Nintendo Switch in 2018 as part of Arcade Archives titled: Kid's Horehore Daisakusen. Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen is a maze game were the players has to collect treasure chests and avoiding enemies. One button uses to dig holes or some power-ups, such as: Yo-Yo, Flamethrower, Freeze gun and the other button is to open doors or using dynamite to explode, which is similar to the Bomberman games. Although I made some stupid and silly mistakes in round 8, but I think I am happy with my end score I got. Overall, Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen is a very fun game from Nichibutsu and I really enjoyed it! If you haven't played this game before, I highly recommend to give this one a try. Shadow of the Ninja (NES) - Playthrough MarcBlaster The Gamer 2023-07-22 | In this video, I am doing a playthrough of an NES game that looks really interesting to try out. That game is: Shadow of the Ninja for the NES (aka Nintendo Entertainment System). This game was developed and published by Natsume, it was released in 1990. Shadow of the Ninja was also re-released as a Virtual Console title for the Wii in 2010, the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U in 2015, and the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online service in 2020. Unfortunately this game on the Wii, 3DS and Wii U isn't available anymore on the shopping channel or the Nintendo eShop, since March 27 this year. Shadow of the Ninja is also known as: Yami no Shigotonin Kage in Japan or Blue Shadow in Europe and Australia. The plot goes like this: In 2029, the evil Emperor Garuda has taken over the United States of America, building a stronghold in the middle of the nation's "largest city". To stop Garuda and avenge the innocent lives that were lost in his reign, two ninja masters from the Iga clan, Lord Hayate and Lady Kaede, are sent to infiltrate the dictator's well-guarded stronghold and kill him. Shadow of the Ninja is a side-scrolling platform game that can be played by up to two players simultaneously, with one player controlling Hayate (a ninja in purple) and the other as Kaede (a kunoichi in orange). In either mode, the player can decide which character they want to control before the game begins. There are no actual performance differences between either character. The player can run, crouch, climb ladders, attack, and jump like in most side-scrolling action games as well as hang onto an overhang and move under it. If the player has more than half of their vitality remaining, they can perform a special attack by holding a button for an extended period, summoning a thunderstorm that will damage all on-screen enemies, but at the cost of roughly half of their maximum vitality. The player's default weapon is a katana, which can be traded for a kusarigama and vice versa. The kusarigama has a longer range than the katana and can be swung upwards diagonally and horizontally, but can only damage enemies from a specific distance and does not work as well at close range like the katana. If the player picks up a weapon they already have, its attack power will be strengthened by an increment of one level (with up to three attack levels). However, if the player takes too much damage, their weapon's strength will be reduced back to its previous level. There is also the possibility to use both weapons, if the player starts with the kusarigama and collects secret power-ups hidden in some levels. The player can also obtain throwable shuriken and hand grenades as well, both which can only be used as long as the player's supply lasts before the player reverts to using the katana or kusarigama. All four weapons are obtained by destroying item boxes scattered throughout each stage, along with vitality potions. Shadow of the Ninja consists of five levels with fourteen stages, with the first four levels being divided into three stages and the final level into two. The player fights numerous types of enemy characters throughout each level, including bosses and sub-bosses. Once a boss has been defeated it will explode, this explosion will heal players the closer they are to it, since actually the same amount of health from one level will be carried to the next one until either recovered with potions or by dying. The game ends if the player loses all of their vitality and only five chances are provided to continue. If two players are playing the game, their continues will be shared. Shadow of the Ninja is not an easy game, because Stage 5-2 is the most hardest section in the entire game. Although I used three continues to do this section all over again, I had to keep the first continue where I almost got to the final boss, because I died by an enemy. Also, I had to delete my failed attempts against the final boss: Emperor Garuda. This boss is really difficult. Although I am not an expert at this game, I still had a lot of fun playing this gem. Overall, Shadow of the Ninja is a fantastic side-scrolling action platform game with a lot of challenges. What I really like about this game is the excellent soundtrack; some games by Natsume have awesome music. My favorite music in the entire game is of course the final boss against Emperor Garuda. If you're a fan of those Ninja action games, I highly recommend to give this game a try. It's worth it! Alligator Hunt (Arcade) - 1 Credit Challenge MarcBlaster The Gamer 2023-07-02 | In this video, I am doing a 1 Credit Challenge of a game that I never played before, but it looks really cool to try it out. That game is: Alligator Hunt for the Arcade. This game was developed and published by Gaelco, it was released in the arcade in 1994. As of April 2020, the rights to Alligator Hunt were acquired by Piko Interactive. The game was included as part of the Gaelco Arcade 1 compilation for Evercade, marking its first console debut. Alligator Hunt is a shoot 'em up game, similar to other games like Cabal and Blood Bros. from TAD Corporation. One or two players take on the role of skateboarding kids who fight off an invasion of alien reptiles. The first two stages take place on earth, after that the players get on a spacecraft, flies through space and finally takes on the reptile home planet. Players can only move left and right in the bottom part of the screen and at the same time they can move a crosshair across the screen to shoot. There are two weapons, the standard laser shot with unlimited ammo and a limited missile shot. Shooting certain targets will drop down bonus items which include M icons for extra missiles, S icons for super missiles and bonus points. Shooting the bonus points increases their value. After each stage the game shows a meter for brutality and efficacy. The game features digitized music, digitized explosion effect and some scenes with prerendered 3D animations. About my run on Alligator Hunt: The game can be quite tough at times. But if you really practice enough at those type of games, then you're getting the hang of it. BTW, this was my second attempt on this game and I find this run really decent for me, because I'm very happy with my end score I achieved. Overall, Alligator Hunt is a really fun shoot 'em up that features similar gameplay to Cabal and Blood Bros. and I really enjoyed it. If you haven't played Alligator Hunt before, then I highly recommend to give this game a try.
