Can't end the year without this yearly arrangement! Morphogenetic Sorrow from Zero Escape; the 6th edition. It felt great going back to a more traditional orchestration given 2021 was a piano solo cover and 2022 was a piano & flute duet. My aim this time was to build on a lot of ideas from earlier versions I've created. I didn't want to go too wild arrangement-wise mostly as I thought this would be a nice opportunity to apply many of the skills I have developed since my last orchestration of Morphogenetic Sorrow back in 2019. One interesting thing that stands out is that this arrangement uses less instruments than in 2019, but in my view sounds way more full and deep. It shows how sometimes it comes down to how instruments are utilized rather than how many instruments are used.
To my surprise, this piece ended up being 7mins. I don't, generally, look at the length of a piece while I'm composing it. Structure-wise this arrangement can be split into 3 parts. I'd like to say that it was a clever ploy to represent the 3 games in Zero Escape, but I'd be giving myself way too much credit for what was an instinctive rather than well thought out choice.
Part 1 - ends at 3:08: cycles through a few different Morphogenetic Sorrow motifs, referencing Blue Bird Lamentation and using BAD END from ZTD as a transition into Part 2. In the video (which admittedly isn't made yet), I expect I'll use VLR shots for this section. It's somewhat inspired by my Morphogenetic Sorrow 2019 arrangement.
Part 2 - begins at 3:09, ends at 5:06: soft and uses the piano as the melodic instrument and the harp helps to guide the melody. There is a bit of a call and response going on with the piano starting each section of Morphogenetic Sorrow and the orchestra then repeating it back until the third section of part 2 at 4:41. It's somewhat inspired by my Morphogenetic Sorrow 2021 arrangement.
Part 3 - begins at 5:07: this is what I'd call OG Morphogenetic Sorrow. A direct 1:1 rearrangement of the original with a deeper harmony being the main addition. Richer and fuller than my Morphogenetic Sorrow 2016 arrangement. Now typing this out, I highly suspect this part of the video to end with shots from 999. Usually the shots I use start from 999 so it will be nice to end on it for a change.
Have a great New Year and thanks for listening!

Two uploads this weekend! To start off with, here's an arrangement of Core from Undertale. I took a while to think of the approach I wanted to take: either a pure electronic arrangement or a total orchestral symphony. So in my usual style, I compromised and went with both! My objective though was to add a lot of power and intensity to the arrangement without it sounding too 'epic.'
After the basics of figuring out what is going on in the original, I thought a lot about the role of each instrument for this Undertale remix. I knew strings would be super important so I revolved a lot of the track around them. I still wanted to fuse in some of the synth parts from the original while making sure they aren't too prominent. There were a few tricks with delays that I used to still make them at least somewhat present. And of course there's a fairly quiet synth solo.
The section at 1:43 was me having way too much fun and trying to do something a bit different. I quite like how it turned out though. For some reason, the image of Frisk surrounded by lava comes to mind. The change in the notes in the cello part was actually a direct reference to Another Medium. Can't be an Everything Fantasy arrangement without a reference to another track.
As always, thanks for watching!

Now this was a lot of fun to create! I have done a cover of Joint Reasoning before but that was an orchestral medley of trial themes from TGAA a long time ago (youtube.com/watch?v=4aLPLp2bWWo). I've always wanted to revisit Joint Reasoning.
I started off by playing in the bassline. From there, it was a gradual building exercise, adding instruments on top of each over and eventually finishing by including shakers and clapping. The full break down of things acoustically played are: bass guitar, electric guitar, glockenspiel, trombone, saxophone, trumpet (but I scrapped it), hand clapping and a shaker, melodica, trombone and saxophone. If there was one instrument I wish I could have recorded or got someone else to do, it would have been a stringed instrument. Let me know if you are a string player!
I was a little selective with certain parts of the arrangement in order to keep the flow and energy (such as the transitions between each section of Joint Reasoning), but most importantly my main aim was to just have fun and enjoy creating this, as cliche as it is to say. Since the original is largely string-instrument based, I had to make some adaptations at times to make it a little more playable for me on certain instruments, such as the sax part and certain articulations on other instruments. This meant direct swaps too: accordion in the original became a melodica.
I'm also gradually getting better at recording these videos. Since I record things very spontaneously, keeping track of 25GB of video footage became a huge mess. So if anyone has any workflow tips on video recording in an efficient way that makes editing easier, I'd love to hear it.
As always, thanks for watching!

I have very fond memories of playing this game as a child, desperately trying to 100% the game. This was something that I was only ever able to do as a teenager replaying the game for the dozenth time. It holds a special place in my heart, largely because of how challenging yet enjoyable the 2D platformer is, but also the music! It's not exaggeration to say that the Rayman OST is an all time favourite of mine. Harmony is one of those pieces that particularly stood out to me, but I really could have picked any track from the soundtrack.
This time I went for a very loyal recreation with a focus on enhancing the quality of the sounds rather than a rearrangement of the entire piece. So the difficulty was in carefully listening to every instrument in the original, picking an instrument to best replicate the sound and also figuring out what every instrument is doing. It's really interesting how when you actually properly scrutinise a piece of music you hear really tiny details that you missed when hearing the track on loop in-game. I decided to add a few subtle things and remove certain notes from time to time where it felt right, but my goal for this was almost to see what this piece could sound like if Rayman were remastered. Come to think of it, I still need to properly play through Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends.
I actually considered doing a mini-series where I recreate the music of older games. Let me know what old school games you really like!

In my journey to cover more DR tracks, I figured I'd get inspired by my recent Heat Up in multiple styles arrangement: youtube.com/watch?v=jzv5P9Q3z0I
This time though I wanted to take an investigation theme and turn it into more of a jazzy big band style, not that the original isn't jazzy already! I might actually do this with all of the investigation themes. Think it could be a really cool twist to fuse this with the heavier rock influenced variations of Box 16, Ekoroshia and Hope Searching.
In terms of the arrangement, the instrumentation was very similar to my other recent arrangement of Heat Up in a Big Band Style: youtube.com/watch?v=H2_smrGpV3M
The main different this time was an emphasis on percussion and the lead trumpet and trombone. Unlike the original Despair Searching, I decided to share the melody between trumpet and trombone. The original only uses trumpet. As a trombone player, this was just my way of a quick trombone shout out, but I think it works quite well!
After the intro, the double bass also changes it up from the the original with a more swung rhythm in this case compared to the original. I don't really plan parts for this sort of arrangement so things like this end up coming quite naturally. I just press record and see what happens next! As with the last two arrangements, the horns took some work in terms of the articulations. Articulations describe the different techniques that can be used when playing an instrument. So a lot of fine tuning was required to get the brass sounding like a big band using a number of different techniques.
Let me know if there's any other tracks you would like in this style!

Based on popular demand I decided to create an arrangement of heat up from DR in the style of big band. While I didn't have the advantage of a drum machine playing a consistent rhythm throughout like the original, I decided to go for power and epic-ness!
In terms of horns instrumentation I used trumpets, trombones, alto sax and tenor sax for the horn section. It wouldn't be an ef arrangement without an unexpected piano solo in the middle of it. I wanted to get fancy with techniques too. As well as the usual legato and staccato ways of playing horns, special techniques such as doits, shakes and falls all feature too. I really wanted firstly drive home the big band feel but also create the sort of extravagant style that Danganronpa is known for.
Percussion took way longer than I anticipated. Partly because of the particular virtual instruments I used but as also to create fine-tun rhythms and work on the solo fills. Though this 'If Danganronpa class trials were jazzy' I've realised there are so many genre changes to DR tracks. Scrum Debate in a funky for instance: youtu.be/2ryVUTAvFuo
If this is ever useful for anyone's fangans (fanganronpa) please do feel free to use it! I'll add a link to the file soon.

I have absolutely no idea where this idea came from either. It wasn't completely random though! I think it came out of wanting to do a remix of Discussion Heat Up or any class trial theme in a style that wasn't electronic. But I couldn't decide which style to go for so instead I thought, "why not do as many as I want!" Similar to my Scrum Debate funk remix youtube.com/watch?v=2ryVUTAvFuo&pp=ygUSc2NydW0gZGViYXRlIGZ1bmt5
Megalovania managed to sneak its way in but was largely inspired by Megastrike's version of the Danganronpa main theme at the end of the Danganronpa fan album: youtube.com/watch?v=mqNVufYBNvw&t=1s
Going from that to metal almost seemed like a natural progression
I have actually wanted to do a big band version of the DR main theme for a while. So I figured this would be a good place to try the style but on a different track. Perhaps it could work well in some classy old school jazz themed fanganronpa.
Electronic and orchestral in some ways speak for themselves. The electronic beginning was just a recreation of the original and the orchestral bit is close to my DR x Ace Attorney arrangement Heated Pursuit youtube.com/watch?v=Ysh4ZC4ffA0&pp=ygUPaGVhdGVkIHB1cnN1aW90
And finally funk and samba. At this point I was just having way too much fun. You'll know if you're in my Discord, I'm having a bit of a crazy hyper creative phase at the moment so anything goes! Thanks for watching!

And so it finally happened! The character who has been on my banner since the beginning of the channel (Crono) finally gets an arrangement! It only took 7 years. This was originally just going to be a completely standard orchestral arrangement (so no live recorded instruments), but I got a little overexcited and decided I'd go for it in terms of instrumentation. I started with glockenspiel and then eventually thought percussion might work really well for this, similar to Maclom Robinson's cover of the track: youtube.com/channel/UC5icB83QfmTzxR45f8l0hcg
From there it was a case of trying to strike a nice balance between adding layers and not overcomplicating a simple but elegant piece of music.
I was tempted to extend the piece and add a few original sections, but I'll save that for a future Chrono Trigger arrangement. The idea to even do this track came about from speaking to another producer at a studio for a while about video game music. I was reminded about how incredible the music of Chrono Trigger is. I listened to this as well as Final Fantasy music a lot growing up as well as enjoying the games. So much of what I compose is naturally inspired by Nobuo Uematsu and Yasonuri Mitsuda. Their music is often a great example of simplicity done incredibly.
Thanks for watching!
Bet you weren't expecting this one! Though you would if you were in my Discord where there's currently a remix guessing game underway with free downloads as rewards!

So I recently just finished the first chapter of YTTD and encountered Clown's Song. The original felt like a lovely melancholic ballad-like piece. So me being me wondered what it could sound like taken to a whole new level. There's something quite gloriously dramatic and epic about Joe as a character anyway so I figured I'd try and change it up. Consider it, Clown's Song if Reko Yabusame composed it.
In terms of the arrangement, this was originally just a normal orchestral arrangement, similar to my arrangement of Majority Rules (youtube.com/watch?v=cOvwS77Bkgk&pp=ygUUbWFqb3JpdHkgcnVsZXMgcmVtaXg%3D). But I just sort of imagined a more intense metal version in my head and figured, why not! In terms of the instrumentation, it's quite an ordinary orchestral setup but of course with the addition off bass, electric guitars and drum kit. The rhythmic guitars were played live by me and the melody was Shreddage.
I considered making it longer and going for a full loop of the track, but at the same time, I figured a short burst of intensity might suit an arrangement like this. Let me know if you'd like an extended version! In the meantime, I shall continue making my way through YTTD! Very gripped by the story.

So this track was originally a suggestion in something I run in the Discord called the EF Battles. Basically a tournament where the EF Discord community gets to decide what I arrange. While it didn't win, it's one of those pieces that I kept coming back to. Something about it just stood out to me a lot. So I wanted to investigate it a little more and ended up getting carried away and actually creating a full on arrangement. At the very least it's encouraged me to look into the game a lot more. While I rarely arrange music from a game I know little about, this one just appealed to me!
In terms of the orchestral cover, I wanted to almost expand on the original. The arrangement doesn't loop at all but mainly because it doesn't need to particularly. Each section does something a little different from the last starting with the piano chords at the beginning and ending on the soft outro. It was also fun to play guitar over in the section leading up to the outro. I played 2 guitar parts and simply panned them left and right.
I went for a more original section at 0:41 just before where the beginning of the original starts. It was mainly inspired by Looking Up at the Sky from Trails in the Sky SC. I just thought it would be nice to lead into the recognisable melody.
As you can see I've begun a sort of spree of uploading all sorts again! Expect many more soon. As I said in the last video, my goal is to upload more videos this month than I ever have (so minimum of 8).

First of all, glad to be back! Apologies for my absence for the past couple of months. It's been very busy with a lot of music to work on and officially graduating from Abbey Road. But I'm back now. You might be wondering why the Zelda arrangement all of a sudden. It's less strategic than you might think given Tears of the Kingdom literally just came out. Well actually, and this might sound crazy for big Zelda fans, up until May, I had never properly played a Zelda game before and figured I'd play Breath of the Wild. So my first time playing it, and it only came like 6 years after its release. I was absolutely blown away! I tried it for a little while last year and for whatever reason couldn't get into it. But having actually played it properly now from start to finish, what a game!! Captured me in a way not a lot of games do. So as with many games many of you suggest I play, I finally played it and it definitely met the hype for me. Now I'm just working through Tears of the Kingdom.
Anyway onto the music. So music-wise, the original of Hyrule Castle really stood out to me when playing the game. I have of course heard much of the music from The Legend of Zelda before, but there was something about hearing this after such a captivating story that had me gripped. The piece really stood out to me, particularly the blending of this with the interior version of the track largely performed by organ.
So for this arrangement, I wanted to change things just a little bit. Start with a section building up atmosphere using vocals, piano and organ before introducing the main sections of the original theme but with an emphasis on percussion but staying somewhat loyal to the original besides some changes here and there. On top of that, I really liked the idea of a solo piano section before the key change as a way of changing the mood and tempo a little bit. Almost like the moments just before taking on Ganon. And then of course the dramatic key change. Given the sheer amount of details in the original, this was a fun arrangement to work through. Took a lot of careful listening and choosing what exactly I wanted to do differently without affecting the original feel too much. First Zelda arrangement done now and open to more! I'm just warming up.
Side-note: if you're in my Discord you'll know that my aim is to beat the record of the most uploads on the channel in a single month (currently 7). So get ready for a lot of content! Also feel free to join the EF community Discord as a lot gets shared there and everyone is amazing!

Now this was a really fun remix to do! Largely came about from being inspired by the announcement in the Nintendo Direct of Ghost Trick coming to Switch. It feels weirdly coincidental that it was only last year that I played the game for the first time and now this! I have a sudden urge to replay the game and experience it all over again.
The thing about Ghost Trick for me is that it's the perfect example of a game that doesn't take itself too seriously until it really needs. Humour, unique gameplay, an actually engaging story and more! But I guess I should talk more about the music.
I've done two other arrangements of tracks from the Ghost Trick soundtrack so far. Beginning of the Night and Dead Afterimage. This time I wanted to try the main theme, but also do a sort of "how to" style video actually watching through the production in some more detail. It beats a description or a still image that's for sure!
The original main theme is simplistic in nature but has an interesting usage of glitchy drum loops and upfront synth parts. I wanted to create a hybrid arrangement combining electric elements and orchestral so for me it was about deciding how much I wanted to commit to orchestral compared to electronic. In the end I decided that I'd let electronic elements take a bit more of a backseat compared to the original.
As always thanks for watching!

You know that strange feeling when your body is just sort of in a calm state of autopilot? That was me last night sitting in this dark room on the computer. I suddenly had an urge to do a Hollow Knight arrangement in the moment and this is what came of it. A symphonic style cover of the title theme from this incredible game!
Ambience was the biggest thing that drove this arrangement. Staying faithful to the original both in terms of the actual instrumentation and also the tone from a production perspective. Of course, in order to create the ambience that's felt when playing the game, there's layers of reverb (of different types and styles) in this to truly add that somber feeling of loneliness. Admittedly I still need to finish the game, but I did, unlike a lot of games that I don't finish due to distractions, get very far into it.
I wanted to not take away from the original as much as possible. Instead of reducing what worked so well, I wanted to try adding to it with original sections and a whole new introduction. There's often a temptation when arranging to do too much in a sense. So I wanted to try and used the width of the mix and instrumentation to create contrast. Instruments are added when I thought it would make sense to do so. Oh and those choral parts I felt were essential! Perhaps more Hollow Knight music remixes coming soon!
As always, thanks for watching! I should be back to uploading more regularly now after a bit of an absence in March.

An unexpected funky remix of Scrum Debate! Or Debate Scrum… Never been sure which one is the right name. This arrangement came very randomly after listening to Rise of the Grendel Super Ultimate version from Kuro no Kiseki and hearing how they turned a track which sounds so similar to Scrum Debate into a funkier version. Inspired, I figured I’d try and do the same for Scrum Debate from Danganronpa V3: Trigger Happy Havoc. Also the theme that I play in my head whenever there’s an argument in real life.
Arrangement wise I went pretty all out in terms of recording instruments. It all started from creating a simple drum pattern that I thought could work well for the ‘chorus.’ Took a lot of trial and error before settling on something that I really liked. Then I figured I’d change it up quite a lot throughout the remix and see what works. Then came the bass. Very new to playing bass so tried to keep it simple and clean.
I knew I wanted a funky guitar pattern throughout but wasn’t sure exactly what it would be. Luckily Oscar Bailey came in with the goods. Cool strum patterns and funky flair. He lives and breathes funky guitar playing and brought the vibes to the track. Huge thanks for his help!
Then it came down to the fun part. Record the horns. I spent a lot of time just figuring exactly what role I wanted each instrument to take. Again, a lot of trial and error, but I like how it turned out. Most important thing with this arrangement was just having a good time. It might have taken AGES to record, edit and mix this I really enjoyed creating it. And of course there’s the video too. Ignore the random moments of black screen. After many exports, my computer just couldn't handle it without some sort of issue.
I’ve always been inspired by YouTube creators who do a lot of acoustic arrangements and remixes such as Marc Papeghin and Insaneintherain so I figured it’s about time I try one! Hope you enjoy it.

Still plan on releasing 1 or 2 more videos this week! Will also do a game I've not covered before. I thought I'd start this week by tackling a requested track though. A Majority Rules Orchestral Remix. This time my aim was to go for something that acts as a 1:1 cover of the original. So no fancy original sections this time, just a straight up cover. So the challenge here was adding originality through instrumentation rather than the musical notes themselves. My initial idea was that every time the opening section (0:00 - 0:17) repeats itself, something new gets added. The first time is the basic version with strings and piano covering the melody. The second time, brass and harpsichord gets added and the third time a glockenspiel gets added.
The strings sound very... 'wooden' in the original. Sounds odd I know as they are literally made of wood, but what I mean is that the sound is a very authentic closely mic'd sound. You can hear the wood of the instrument in the sound. It immediately reminded me of the strings in The Great Ace Attorney. So that's exactly the sort of sound I was going for when it came to orchestral sound. Consider this a Your Turn to Die x The Great Ace Attorney remix in some ways. In hindsight, that would have made a killer YouTube title... I'm very tempted to change it. If you're reading this and you notice the title or thumbnail has changed, you know why.
Thanks for watching!
If you've been reading descriptions lately, your second clue is 'A'

As part of my goal to spend the next month doing arrangements from games I haven’t covered before, here’s Your Turn to Go from Your Turn to Die. I started playing YTTD last year but admittedly still need to complete it. But I thought it would be an interesting challenge of reimaging the catchy music from the game.
Now the interesting part of arranging this one was deciding how to take what is really a 30 second loop of a track and reimagine it. Immediately I knew I wanted it to be a gradual build up until the recognizable beginning of the song at 1:32. So I decided to play around the short motif in the second half of the original. Almost like a bit of a dance that harmonizes it and adds to it with original melodies and ideas. The whole piece is essentially one giant crescendo. Almost like I wanted those who know the original to say, "when is the main part coming." I really like how it turned out!
The original sound track uses short loops for the music. It's a really cool challenge experimenting and seeing how you can take those ideas and transform them whilst still maintaining the spirit of the original. Arranging-wise, I spent a lot of time on the strings and brass in particular. The violins and brass do little variations here and there and play off each other throughout the arrangement. The violas go on a bit of a journey and help to add more detail to the arrangement. I was really keen on making sure to improv parts of it where possible. For example, I pressed record and played in the piano part without planning it just to see what would happen without thinking about it. I often find the best things are unplanned.
Thanks for listening!
If you made it all the way to the bottom, here's the first of a random clue to something. 'W'

When I think of Box 15, not only is Kyoko Kirigiri the first person that comes to mind, but I've always been a fan of how sophisticated the piece sounds. So I thought about how to bring this to life in an exaggerated way and turn this into a full noir jazz style arrangement with more brass, a walking bass line and more. Almost like a piece that might play in a movie when a murder can't be solved and just when all hope is lost, Detective Kirigiri shows up with her assistant Makoto Naegi.
I largely kept the structure of the original. Admittedly though I didn't really listen to the original while creating this arrangement (side-effect of doing so much DR analysis that the track becomes buried in your head). Except the lead trumpet, which is practically impossible to play, I played trumpet and sax on this arrangement. A very spur of the moment idea. I just sort of picked up the instruments, pressed record and tried things until it stuck. 2 recorded saxophone and 2 recorded trumpet parts.
And the usual solo section of an Everything Fantasy jazz remix. This time with a vibraphone getting a section too. Decided to throw in strings on top of this too throughout the arrangement to really give it its classy style. Couldn't help but finish it off by throwing in some classic Kirigiri quotes.
Thanks for watching as always!

This year has felt like a huge coming together for the Danganronpa community. Incredible fan projects all round and now this; Nothing better than bringing together incredible musicians from around the world, all with the goal of creating music. This was an idea I had a long time ago, but genuinely hard to put into words how it feels seeing it come to life and being able to work with everyone involved. It’s surreal. Thank you to everyone involved. What a way to end the year!
I really want people to know the humans behind the music. Soon we’ll release a video where the producers behind the tracks will break their music down. I’ll save more talking for then. In the meantime, please please please go subscribe to everyone!! Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

In many ways a new rendition of Heated Pursuit which I released last year (youtube.com/watch?v=Ysh4ZC4ffA0). This time though I wanted to see what more I could do with the elements from all of these tracks. Experiment with new phrases, ideas, instrumentation, harmony and much more. The references to Objection 2001 are a lot more prominent this time. The main melody itself is a combo of Pursuit and Heat Up as opposed to separating the two. This was a very spur of the moment arrangement idea that, as with most things I do, happened at 2am when I should have been sleeping!
Spent quite a bit of time having from with the 8 Hours sample and actually chopping it up this time, much more akin to Takada's use of it, as identified by @MegaStrike. Chord sequences and overall key signature are very different this time too. I almost wanted to see how far you could reharmonize pursuit without losing the original feel of the track. The chord change to Ab Diminished at 0:51 hits me inside. Almost makes me feel a good sense of unease.
The little piano section about a minute into Heated Pursuit inspired the lo-fi-esque section of this arrangement at 2:00. I wanted to do something similar yet different at the same time. I always thought it was a little off in hindsight that in heated pursuit, every instrument loses its high end frequencies besides the piano for that section. So I decided to exaggerate it this time round and make everything lose those glistening high frequencies. I really like the feel it creates. There's this hopeful intensity to it. Kind of like you're reaching the turning point in a trial.
As always, thanks for watching!
There's a lot that could be said about how I approached this music-wise. This theme takes motifs and ideas from the amazing main theme composed by @robborites. A lot of unusual production techniques, particularly in the first section with pitch automation and experimenting with delays. After this, the aim was to present the uneasiness of a killing game while gradually building up to the big finale, the reveal of a class trail. Happy to do a more in depth breakdown if of interest to anyone!

The annual arrangement is back! This time with a twist! A piano & flute duet of Morphogenetic Sorrow, the classic track originally heard in Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors. I had been wanting to do this for quite a while; perform the track with another person. I never expected it to completely change the feel of the style. Firstly, make sure to check Lucas out on Instagram. I don't even know where to begin when describing how incredibly beautiful his flute playing is. It provides an entirely different feel to the track. Somber yet somehow sweet. Check out his website too to hear more of his playing! It's incredible.
I went with a very loyal arrangement of the original. The piano part was inspired by the Virtue's Last Reward and Zero Time Dilemma versions of the track. With the addition of embellishments and an improvised section by Lucas, the flute part is also very loyal to the original too. The dream is to create a live orchestral version of this... maybe one day.
Recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

A very surprising track to do I know! It's one of those tracks which I'll be honest, I wasn't overly keen on to begin with, but you know how things gradually grow on you? I have to admit it happened with this one. I confess this was partly a birthday present for a best friend to which Synchronicity is a bit of a running joke @redfluffy4212. But it left me wondering how this could potentially be reimagined and orchestrated while still keeping the substance of the original.
The first thing I realised was that I needed to embellish certain sections a little bit to allow the track to flow slightly more predictably. For the original electronic track it's not as important, but for an orchestral remix, it felt really important to provide some coherence between the sections. So I decided to add my own phrases here and there. Then it was a case of making things busier, grand where possible and adding some mighty-ness to the arrangement.
It was actually quite fun programming random synth parts here and there in the same vain is Singa. I was originally tempted to make this purely orchestral with no electronic elements at all, but the track felt somewhat empty at times. I still think there are effective ways of doing this, but perhaps I'll leave for another 2am arranging session. More Falcom tracks to come! Perhaps ones a little more in demand next time!
Thanks for watching as always. Should be uploading again tomorrow with a Zero Escape arrangement.

No Gods is an Turn-based/Action hybrid JRPG inspired by game properties such as Final Fantasy and Undertale. The story of No Gods focuses on Sam, an assassin who was shot in the head and left for dead. Rising from the grave with a wing of an Archangel, Sam is given new purpose in life: to find and kill the Divine Nine, the new Gods of the world. In carrying out this seemingly-impossible task, Sam will assemble a team, travel the continent, and uncover a plot that was set in motion by forces beyond comprehension.
No Gods is currently on development hiatus, seeking funding for continued development. Prototype gameplay can be found on the official Twitter account.

There's soooo much that I love about this track. It's so reflective of Yoko Shimomura's style. Signature arpeggios and melodic lines that I associate so much with the legendary video game composer. I almost wanted to turn this into a Mario & Luigi in the style of Kingdom Hearts arrangement if anything. The rhythmic elements of this remix and my arrangement of the bassier elements reminded me so much of the games like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XV. It was initially unintended since I originally planned to go for an arrangement closer to the original in terms of percussion - a drum kit for exmaple. But usually if I like a particular idea, I just run with it and see where it takes me!
When I compose, I usually have a very specific idea in my head of something I want to do in the composition. A really specific phrase or section. Same with arrangements too. Quite early on I knew I wanted to have a slow more dramatic section of the arrangement. That's where 1:30 comes into play. The idea was to really present a sense of this being a true grand finale both in the literal sense but also in a musical sense too.
Instrumentation wise I pretty much went all out! All sections of the orchestra feature with a lot of work being put into each part. Brass is present but not too powerful. Percussion is working overtime to assist with the groove and also help with transitions between sections.
As always, hope you enjoyed this! I'll be back with a regular series I cover next week... Either Zero Escape or Danganronpa. Depends which cover I finish first!

I actually did this arrange before doing The Beginning of the Night which I uploaded earlier this week. When I played Ghost Trick for the first time earlier this year, I'm not sure what exactly it was, but this track really stood out to me. You know the feeling when you're playing a game or watching a movie and you know things are getting serious, the plot is lifting and the climax is coming. That's what I get from Dead Afterimage. Of course the context of Sissel basically discovering something important helps too.
So with this reimagined orchestrated cover, I wanted to simulate the power and epic-ness of those revelations through orchestral instruments. I wanted to go almost overboard in the second section of the piece (0:39) and really create this intense but somewhat magical feeling. Was literally a case of picking every emotional instrument I could think of an stacking them on top of each other. During the repeat at 1:55, I did the same but threw an improvised piano line over the top of it. Doing things in the moment and just running with the emotion is something I've gotten much more used to, as you'll see with some upcoming uploads. If you're a fellow composer, I'd definitely recommend it: play your track from start to finish and improvise with a random instrument, you might surprise yourself with what you come up with! Make sure you're recording.
As always thanks for watching and take care!

I played Ghost Trick for the first time earlier this year. It is one of those games that one of my best friends always suggested I play (and even gave it to me) but I finally played and completed it this year. I was absolutely blown away by it. A really cool story, amazing cast of characters and doesn't overstay its welcome. Most importantly for me though, a killer soundtrack! Generally retro synth in style, and so there was a lot of room to play with in terms of arranging the music.
For this one, I started it knowing I wanted to fuse orchestral elements in order to provide a distinct new flavour to the track. All in the aim of creating a video game reimaged soundtrack. I thought about it as two different arrangements in many ways. One loyal to the original and then the orchestral rendition starting at 1:39. Brought out multiple synths for this largely for the fun of it in trying to recreate similar sounds to the original.
I'm calling this week, Ghost Trick Week. Expect another arrangement later this week. Thanks for watching!

First things huge thanks to everyone for supporting the channel! Just hit 5K subscribers and hugely excited for all the content I'll be sharing soon.
A short but sweet one. This time I wanted to combine the title theme from the Ace Attorney Trilogy with the main theme of Danganronpa, doing my usual pattern of weaving elements of both tracks into each other and of course making reference to a few other tracks along the way (Monokuma's Theme and the V3 main theme to be specific which are alluded to very briefly). Even thought I'd try and use a "Ace Attorney" voice line created in a very similar way to Takada creating the "Danganronpa" voice line at the beginning of the theme (old school Mac text to speech and run the sound through a vocoder style effect).
There were a few other interesting production techniques and theory related things I had to contend with for this. The key ultimately had to be in G Minor purely because of the Danganronpa Main Theme vocals. Based on how the VST used to construct it works (Voices of Passion), there would have been no way of pitch shifting the vocals to match the key of Ace Attorney (D Minor) without completely ruining the vocals. That meant I had to transpose the ace attorney theme to G Minor as well as the 2 key changes that happen later in the track.
After that was sorted out, it was then a case of crafting sounds to act as a nice blend between DR and Ace Attorney. Some percussive elements inspired by DR (xylophone and glockenspiel) but the overall orchestral direction driven by Ace Attorney. It's why on some level I think this could work as a title theme as opposed to necessarily a main theme (not that the two need to be different).
From a production element, I felt the track needed something in the high end to brighten up the mix. So woodwind were added as a very last minute addition. Other production techniques included things like time stretching (for the DR vocals again) and some creative uses of EQ as well as for filtering and making space in the mix.
As always, thanks for watching.

A little take from me of the Big Shot but it's Megalovania trend. This arrangement, like many others, originally started as just a random idea I wanted to try for fun. I quickly realised this could actually work as a full orchestrated arrangement with room for original phrases, variations in the percussion parts, Spamton and Sans' voice lines and so much more. Although tempting to use certain things from my Big Shot arrangement, a lot of things had to be rewritten or modified to suit this arrangement. Originally, the direction I wanted to go for was the melody of Megalovania and the Harmony of BIG SHOT. But soon realised due to the melody of Megalovania, I'd need to think again about what chords I was going to use.
It's really rare that I revisit an arrangement I've created before in this much detail so it was a fun exercise of working out what Cory in Sept 2021 was thinking. This time I tried to go for detail and see how much I can allude to each of the two pieces using noticeable melodic references, with an occasional little taste of BIG SHOT or Megalovania mixed within it.
Now for the video! A small part of me wanted to use an image or something and leave it at that, but I knew I couldn't let that happen so was up very late last night exploring every crazy idea I had. It's why I'm a huge fan of just trying things no matter how crazy they might seem. You never know what's going to happen. This took video editing, animating, editing sprites and a lot more. But it was a fun process and I learnt a lot through doing this. As always, thanks for watching!

An idea partly inspired by a random thought I had a couple days ago and also from the comments in my previous Phoenix Wright x Great Ace Attorney video (youtube.com/watch?v=xAS9HaISRyY). Had a huge amount of fun, jumping around and deep thinking for this one. Interestingly it didn't take much listening to Pursuit ~ Cornered (given I've listened to that piece to way too much now), but it did take a lot thinking about how best to incorporate the melody of it with the instrumentation and rhythmic feel of The Great Turnabout. It was a nice challenge!
On top of all of this was actually transcribing The Great Turnabout and all of its very complex elements. Literally had to sit there today working out all the notes for the really fast violin part towards the end of The Great Turnabout. It's not a fun process but when it's done, it's so satisfying!
A separate side-note of this is one is mixing because so much of the 'sound' of The Great Ace Attorney comes down to the nature of how instruments were recorded and how they were used. Not just what instruments were chosen. The dry sounding strings, the incredibly upfront and punchy brass, utilising percussion in a very melodic way and so much more. All of this had to be incorporated to try and make this work.
As always, huge thanks for watching!

Watching the Ace Attorney anniversary concert and also experiencing Ace Attorney all over again, I had a sudden urge to do a rendition of Objection 2001, easily one of my favourites from the series. But I wanted to put a lot of focus into making it sound somewhat like a fully fledged reimagining of the legendary theme rather than a 1:1 copy of the original in orchestrated form. So this arrangement was born! An arrangement of one of the most satisfying themes I've ever encountered in a game. The feeling of actually making a big breakthrough in the case and realising that your numerous tries of hopelessly finding contradictions have actually amounted to something!
I wanted to start quite delicately with the sound of bells, triangles, and soft dynamics. Somewhat like the feeling just before you press the objection button when you're nervously waiting for either the music to stop or for the judge to shake his head in disapproval. I then used a crescendo building up to the main section of Objection. Quite reminiscent of the Anniversary Concert arrangements. The main difference in terms of mixing though is that I wanted a punchy bass drum. Unrealistic in the context of an orchestra but works well for this kind of track in creating punchiness and power. As is usually the case, I delved into a short reference to another piece within the interlude part of the arrangement where the intensity decreases, before a powerful finale!
As always, hope you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!

'This piece was funded and created for an Eternus RP adventure that is beginning within Eorzea. As the Final Days approach, so does a secret conflict, twelve factions gathering their forces to do battle, until there is only one left. This rp story is written and hosted by Koko Dhomyi. How will Eternus fare in the chaotic waves? Who will remain? Will the war end before it is too late?
FC: Eternus. Server: Balmung. If interested in joining the Number Arc, look for Koko Dhomyi in game!
Please note that this is a side story if joining the FC'

A combination of Final Fantasy and Danganronpa. I almost couldn't ask for a better pairing given my interests! This was huge amounts of fun to make and explores an unbelievable range of Final Fantasy references and inspirations: from direct references to other tracks, to occasional motifs across Final Fantasy games. Hugely impressed if you can spot all the references.
In terms of structure, I thought I'd start with a traditional Final Fantasy style opening with direct reference to the Prelude. Towards the end, you begin to hear fragments of Danganronpa creeping in until the first main section: A Danganronpa opening with the rhythm and harmony of a Final Fantasy battle theme. The next section contains a reference to a Final Fantasy 14 track and acts as an interlude before introducing the Bulgarian Danganronpa vocals. The piece progresses into a direct reference to one of my favourite Final Fantasy pieces and then the climax is a combination of various Final Fantasy tracks alongside the Danganronpa melody. It's almost contrapuntal/ polyphonic in nature with multiple melodies happening simultaneously.
Instrument-wise I went for traditional orchestra with a whole lot of percussion and some acoustic elements such as @ghostsoundz providing the beautiful vocal lines at the beginning and even my own vocal 'performance' during one of the choir sections.
This was incredible to work on! There's something about crossover style tracks that I really enjoy. It demands so much creativity and allows you to really get experimental. Sometimes arrangements start to sound too similar to the original track. When it comes to crossover arrangements, you're forced to be creative!
As always, thanks for listening!

There's a lot of original content I create for games, projects, commercial stuff and more. This track started as an Abbey Road assignment. It ended up scoring really highly so thought I'd share it, especially because some of you have wanted to see the other things I do that aren't EF related! As much as I'd love there to be a detailed backstory for the track, there isn't one beyond the name! (which I'll leave you to speculate about). Instead I'll talk a little about the process of creating it and how I think about music.
I like to think about music in terms of worlds, characters and stories. Even if, like on this occasion, the music isn't going to be used in anything, I like to envisage where it could be set, what emotions the characters are feeling and what exactly is the world I'm trying to convey through music. But the world I imagine when hearing this is probably different from what you imagine. That's the beauty of music! I'd love to know what comes to mind when you hear this.
In terms of creating it, the entire thing was made using Pro Tools (for Abbey Road reasons) and took a lot of battling with the software for starters. The instruments are a combo of things I recorded (rhythmic percussion, trombone, glockenspiel) and the usual strings. I really liked the idea of including a little interlude type section within the music. Almost like a tension release to bridge the gap between chorus 1 and 2.
... Sneaky little reference to a video game series buried in this. I'm sure someone will spot it.
There are many things coming soon, including a big project! Until the next one, take care.
Be on the lookout for a community post from me in the next few days with a special DR related announcement!!

Definitely a long awaited arrangement given I've done ones for most of the other major class trial themes. I had to be quite strategic about how I wanted to do this one. Turning an electronic track with no obvious harmonic structure into orchestral takes quite a lot of thinking. Scrum debate for example has a chord based melody so it was quite easy to separate the 3 note melody and assign a role to say a violin 1, violin 2 and viola. Rebuttal is a lot different and took a lot of thinking of how I'd create a full arrangement and utilise orchestral section in a way that makes sense. The solution: go crazy with percussion!
Shakers, tambourines, taiko, toms, piatti, woodblocks and more! All playe their role in creating a very Eastern style feel that mimics Danganronpa V3's version of rebuttal showdown. I tried to take this to the next level with the instrumentation and even including a Shakuhachi (and not just because it sounds a little like Shuichi).
As always, hope you enjoy it!

It only made sense that the piece I listen to on a regular basis ends up becoming a target for an arrangement. Although I'm not sue what took me so long! I absolutely love the original and the Evolution versions of The Final Choice. I'm tempted to say it's in my top 10 Falcom pieces of all time. Even if you were to strip away the powerful context of the scenes where you track is heard, the piece stands on its own as being so emotive and powerful. If you haven't played any game from the series, I suspect you can imagine how you might feel experiencing it in-game. The track takes place in several scenes across The Legend of Heroes
My goal was almost to create a middle ground between the upfront original and the very cinematic sounding Evolution version. I also wanted to bring to the forefront some of my favourite elements such as the piano during the climax and generally introduce my own feel to it. At the very least, this has really encouraged me to replay Third Chapter and potentially the whole of the Trails in the Sky again. I went from being pretty skeptical of Kevin Graham to him becoming one of my favourite protagonists.
As always, thanks for watching and thanks to Falcom Sound Team JDK for the original masterpiece.

There's a lot that can be said about how much I enjoyed working on this but firstly, I want to thank Hylia for her amazing performance! Her voice suited the style and tone perfectly. Mellow yet easy to listen to. This was only possible through the amazing people, Hylia included, in the Everything Fantasy Discord Server so be sure to join and praise her properly!
In terms of the arrangement, I wanted to go for a smooth yet sophisticated jazzy feel with enough breathing room for Hylia's voice to shine through. Given the genre, the bass and piano parts constantly evolve and develop throughout to ensure they are alive and dynamic with me performing all of the piano part especially.
The piano plays one of the most important roles. The original Beautiful Lie doesn't have many chord variations so making this jazzy largely involved using a lot of features of jazz harmony and chord extensions (7th chords, 9ths, 11ths etc.). Equally important was occasionally harmonizing with the vocals and referencing the original Beautiful Lie directly. Process wise I recorded and produced the piece first (with a pretend vocal part) and then Hylia sang over the top. Then it was a case of mixing and gluing everything together to create a 'beautiful' sound.
Definitely cannot forget about the lyrics. Huge thanks to Hylia for creating the idea and theme for the lyrics. I love how many layers of meaning exist behind the words, especially if you have finished the game.
The bass largely doesn't mimic the bass in the original Beautiful Lie (besides a few short phrases) and instead focuses on providing the pulse of the piece and making the chord progressions obvious. A very common feature of jazz alongside moments of a 'walking' bass.
As always, a quick little reference in my piano solo to a DR piece that's not really a DR piece but features in V3. Hylia and I both associate this piece with Kaede so it only made sense! "That's Kayayday's lie isn't it?"

Fate has made our paths cross, take my hand
Who knows, where this will lead
I will sing you this song, one last time
To get a glimmer of hope
Falling into despair will not help us escaping we need to
cooperate, but help me, everything seems so fake, oh what a beautiful lie
Fate has made our bonds grow, please trust me
This is our chance to break free
Falling into despair will not help us escaping we need to
cooperate, but help me, everything seems so fake, oh what a beautiful lie
I know the line between hope and despair is thin, we need to
Fight it, with all of our might, I know we can unite, what a beautiful lie

The thought of doing another crossover arrangement came really randomly and on a whim. My original plan was to do a track called, 'If [insert Danganronpa character known for despair] had a Persona Palace.' After some great suggestions from my Discord, The Salt God made the suggestion of doing a crossover with the investigation themes earlier this week. A few minutes, I loaded up the project and began!
My first idea was to do a very general arrangement. So Box 15 in the style of Persona 5. This would have meant a piece with loose references to tracks in Persona 5. Very similar to my 'What would Danganronpa music sound like in Persona 5' arrangement. (youtube.com/watch?v=0c5c7MbtJQQ). I liked how this was going but it lacked a little bit of speed and groove. But nevertheless, I kept going with it and naturally fused some elements of Life Will Change while improvising. At that point, I had a bit of a lightbulb moment and figured I'd just make this a complete crossover of Life Will Change and Box 15... Box 15 Will Change. I would pretend I'm proud of that name, but 'Life Will Box 15' doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
Anyway onto the arrangement itself! The most obvious inspiration from Persona is the use of instrumentation. Firstly, I made sure to preserve elements of Box 15. I happen to have the same 'cowbells' (which interestingly aren't cowbells but an instrument called a dumbek) Masafumi Takada, Danganronpa composer, used for the percussion of Box 15. That was the obvious starting point. Then it was almost like a layering exercise starting with the bass and working my way back up from the warm mellow Rhodes that provides the harmony and adding guitars, both played live and using a VST. The bass was a particularly fun one to include as much of it was done without any real planning and instead just playing phrases from Box 15 and Persona until it sounded right. I feel like the bass and drums almost guided the entire piece and influenced so much of the arrangement. They may not be obvious, but even a saxophone and congas feature. All with the aim of adding depth.
Structure-wise, I pretty much wanted the arrangement to continuously add elements throughout with subtle and more noticeable changes rather than just looping sections directly. For example, the first time you hear the section at 0:59, the bass is playing a steady quaver rhythm ramping up to when the trumpet enters. When you hear that section again at 1:49, the bass is directly imitating the bridge section of Life Will Change. Likewise when the trumpet enters for the second time, the first half of the phrase is the same, but the second half acts almost like a climax where I played power chords on a guitar, and the organ plays Lyn Inaizumi's vocal melody from Life Will Change (2:16).
As always, thanks for watching and please do suggest future crossover tracks to do in the comments! I'm very active in my Discord and even started live streaming making music so would love for you to join!
