This study is painted from life and encompasses the first week of a 3 week pose in class - the last live model session of this school year, so I really want to make it count. I tried to paint fabric on a live model (DIFFICULT!) Happy D. Artist 2023-04-29 | 10% off your first purchase with Squarespace:http://www.squarespace.com/happydartistHello everyone, today's video features a recent 3 day exercise (about 2 hours each day) from class where I attempted to paint fabric on a live model. The "outfit", inspired by togas from ancient Rome, was constructed using bedsheets fastened together with safety pins and binder clips 😅 This pose was especially challenging because the model only sits for 20 minutes at a time (with a few minutes break in between), but each time he reset the pose, the fabric would move and so we had to construct a lot of the fabric from imagination. This is my most recent oil painting from art school using a live model and it measures 24x30" - my biggest life room figure painting painting yet! In this video I'll be walking you through how I first did a series of small studies to come up with a concept of how to place the model in an aesthetic environment (inspired by Bouguereau as usual hehe), as well as how I blocked in the proportions/anatomy, and my techniques for rendering the figure in color.
