Star Wars Force Commander - PC - Intro & mission 1 - 3 gameplay [HD 1080p 60fps]

Section 8 Prejudice is quite a late Xbox 360 game releasing in 2011 as a sequel to a previous game that largely ended up in bargain bins. However it's a decent one with a few interesting ideas that make it a bit more original than some of the others you can buy. The feature of you sky diving into battle is very interesting and you can even take out players if you can land on them directly. One of the stand out points is that this footage you are watching is all offline, when Riven our editor recorded it. The game has full support for bots and features 16 A.I. players in conquest mode and 4 players in Swarm. while the ranked online servers closed way back in 2013 making certain achievements inaccessible, all the game can be played solo.
The Xbox 360 version is now the only version of the game you can still buy at present alongside its DLC. As both the PC and PlayStation 3 version were delisted years ago. The 360 version runs at 30fps, whereas the PC version had better frame rate and resolutions support, console support 32 players online PC is said to support 40 players per match.

The timing of the arcade release could not have been better planned with the game releasing just months before Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles turned into the huge crazy of the 90s. The game may have likely helped it as well as the arcade game was just so good. It captured the look of the 1980s cartoon series spot on featuring all the cast and characters. The arcade hardware jumps over the decade meant, by the end of the 80s unlike the NES title, to 80s kids these looked just like the characters they saw in the cartoon series on TV.
Four player support meant all four turtles Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo could be on screen at once. As hundreds of foot soldiers pour at you as you take on the foot clan, Shredder & Krang.
Aside from the superb visual and animation for the time, you had a rocking soundtrack based on the TV series and first class gameplay. The game is fast paced with spot on hit detection, foot soldier are quick to fall, which is what make it work as a scrolling beat'em up. So many poorly designed titles in the genre make the mistake of having enemies taking far to much much damage, before falling. It's also one of the earliest scrolling beat'em ups to give each stage a key theme to play differently from one another.
Interestingly the game draws from both the original comic book and cartoon series, the fire in April's New York apartment occurred in original the comic books from Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird not the 80s TV series. The skateboard stage is the most memorable and perhaps the hardest as well if you don't use the time out trick. Asides from the four turtles and there main villains, April O'Neil & Splinter appear as NPCs with Rocksteady, Bebop, Baxter Stockman, Granitor & Traag filling the remain boss roll. Enjoy the run Riven uses quite a few tricks in it, but is somewhat rusty.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is largely an untouched port of the game, but doesn't allow access to the the dipswitches, however the option to adjust the difficult had to be patched in as the game didn't include it original, until after we had pointed this out to the developers on twitter. The only change is the intro song has been re-recorded, we can only assume a right issues with the original recording is the problem there. Character profiles and the attract mode are shown at the end of the video.

Konami stuck to the same winning format as the Turtles, but added in new features like weapons and team attacks. The sprites are larger and also more colourful than the turtles, matching the cartoon sitcom perfectly. Added to that the sheer amount of cameos from various characters from the first series of the show, it also features cameo's from Bongo and Blinky the rabbits from Matt Groening's Life in Hell comic strip.
The game was a massive arcade success and the most baffling question is why the only home ports were to the Commodore 64 and PC only. Konami dropped the ball hugely on not porting many of their arcade games to the home systems at the time. The only sane reason for this not happening was the fact that other developers may have owned exclusive rights to make Simpsons games on certain formats.
The Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3 version really was the arcade under emulation, but is pretty much perfect and included both the English and Japanese arcade revision. The only drawback was the port was up for less than two years before it got delisted again alongside X-Men in December of 2013. We suspect it was linked to Backbone Entertainment growing problems that saw it close in 2015. It's a huge shame there is no current version of this game to buy on modern consoles.

Corrections from Riven, when I mentioned Forza Motorsport 7 being online only. That was an error I was talking about Forza Motorsport 2023 so number 8 in fact which is online only. Also made a Freudian slip when I mentioned Homer Louis "Boots" Randolph III name, yes sorry about that. Oh and the Forza Horizon 2 DLC that didn't work was the Day One release car pack, we got a new and sealed one a few months back.

In s of Konami's scrolling beat'em up X-Men is one of the low points, it's a good game in its own right, but is much weaker than Asterix & Bucky O'Hare which were also released in 1992. it doesn't quite do the source material justice, likely as Konami didn't have access to it all. The enemies are a really mixed bunch of multiple factions with Magneto being the main villain commanding an army of Sentinels with a few members of the Brotherhood of Mutants thrown in as bosses. It's an odd mix that doesn't work, Konami seemed to want to copy the Foot Clan from the turtles with them, but as they all look the same and fight the same it gets quite boring. The other troops are just odd as well rather than mutants, you fight things like giant bats and wasps, some mud monster and a half human tank enemy. There's a lack of fighting other mutants outside of the bosses it seems.
As with the 1989 TV pilot the X-Men are made up of Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler & Dazzler as playable characters. With the supporting cast featuring Professor X & Kitty Pryde.
Emma Frost The White Queen is shown as an enemy in this as she was in the 1989 pilot which upset fans as she is supposed to be a member of the X-Men. Juggernaut uses a gun for some odd reason, Pyro, Mystique and The Blob are three of characters that better match their comic book versions. Wendigo is a creature Wolverine's fights from Canada. The Egyptian enemy is suggested to be Living Monolith Ahmet Abdol, but there are three of him? Finally the robot boss is an obscure sentient synthesis version of Master Mold merged with Nimrod taken from the Uncanny X-Men 246-247 story called The Day of Other Lights!
The six player version with dual screens was something quite special to look at, there used to be one in the arcade at Lowestoft here in the United Kingdom. All in all it's still a good game with great 2D graphics for the time, let down by the stage design which isn't that good and the odd mix of enemies, don't really fit together well in the story. The sentinels should have had separate stages to the brotherhood, many stages look to be set in the Savage Land, but don't reflect it with the characters you meet. Sadly to date the only home port is this now delisted Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

As you expected from the plane used, in the game P-47 is set around the 940s and has you taking on tanks, planes and ships from that era. The game takes place over eight stages each set in different locations, the impressive sunset of stage two and the train and battleship bosses are highlights of the game. As is the rainstorm seen on stage eight, while it's far to say a lot of the games assets are reused with most of the bosses being fought twice. P-47 The Freedom Fighter is quite a short game and doesn't outstay its welcome, that said the game seems to loop endlessly on finishing it. We quit on the start of the third loops, the only ending is the game over screen.
Overall a well balance shooter that slowly ramps up the difficulty, by the second loop the game plays more like a danmaku with some later stages filling the screen with enemies and bullets. There just something about these older shooters that don't require pixel perfect hit box dodging that makes them a better game in the genre than later examples. P-47 The Freedom Fighter also got a late sequel in 1995 called P-47 Aces and more recently in 2022 exA-Arcadia released P-47 Aces Mark II.

Mutation Nation turned out to be quite popular so it was surprising that the game never got a sequel. That said it was a rather tough scrolling beat'em up / brawler and one that is very tight on the health. As you don't get health back on finishing a stage and only one life bar per credit making for a tough one credit clear. Health is only granted via the power up orbs and even then they only give you one section of the bar back. So in two player mode, there is very little health to go around.
Solid graphics for the time, combat is fairly quick and simple, there isn't a huge amount of moves or items to pick up. You can hold up to five super attacks at any one time, you can also use health to use a super so long as you aren't in the red section. There is a little too much reuse of certain enemies in the game that's for sure. Some enemies are used too often while others are underused and only appear once or twice. The last stage is a bit of a chore having to re-fight all the bosses again including the last one you just fought. The game also lacks key invulnerable frames for the player on recovering from certain attacks as you can see in some of the boss fights in the video. So far the best we've done on one credit is the second boss. This is one game which you aren't going to finish with no damage, unless you are cheating.
Fun fact the AES version of the game has an extra intro scene during the attract mode, showing the game's story not seen in MVS mode.

In many ways the second game could be seen as a remake of the original, as many of the stages follow the same pattern as the original. Not to mention the heavy reuse of assets that can be seen in the game. Newer and larger character sprites over the original make for some impressive scenes. It was still very popular in arcades, far harder to one credit clear than the first game thanks to the elbow trick being removed, the new spin kick was a cool and powerful move, but tricky to pull off as it required perfect timing..
Ported to many home consoles and computers at the time, the game made for NES is seen as a better title, if very different. While the Mega Drive port addressed the balancing problems and added in some extra sections. With the arrival of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1989, Technos Japan just couldn't keep up with Konami and it's fair to say the flaws of Double Dragon II really came to light as gamers quickly moved on from the series. The infamous third arcade game, sadly went down in history for all the wrong reasons, but the series did return to form on SNES with Super / Return of Double Dragon.
The Arcade Archive version is the best release to date with spot on emulation, that gets the hardware slowdown correct, many unofficial emulators add in too much slowdown. According to Hamster the makers of the series the original Double Dragon is one of the top three sellers on the format, we suspect Double Dragon II isn't far behind! Fun run on the game we did before Christmas, Riven did the run and didn't care how many credits he used as this was a dry run with no practice.Note we edited out the blue title screen flash during the intro card at the very start of the video.

Metal Hawk is an impressive looking and playing top down helicopter shooter which has you zooming around the map trying to take out enemy targets. What's so impressive with this one is that you get full 360 control of your chopper and have vertical control as well, allowing you to dive in close to targets or attack from the skies above. Making for an intense short game that was designed more as an amusement ride, thanks to the huge moving sit down deluxe cabinet version. The 2D scaling shown in game is first class, not least due to the size of some of the sprites in game and rivals SEGA games from the eras.
Each stage has a different theme and objective, the first stage has you hitting ships and an island base, another has you hitting the streets of a city, while a third has an attack on an aircraft carrier and our favourite has to be the attack on the flying base even if it is one of the hard missions. The game lets you pick the next stage from the nearest selection, apart from the final stage, only downside is there isn't a final boss. Each mission has a set score the player must reach to travel to the next mission; all enemies and targets award a score, but main objectives award more points than secondary targets.
It really is an excellent game and one that is fairly quick and quite easy to finish, clearly designed more as an attraction ride with the deluxe version. It's a pity it seems so many arcade owners overlooked this one, certainly one to grab if you are a fan of the shooting genre and want something a bit different to other arcade titles.

Sadly this release doesn't include the later 2000 version which had more enemies on screen and some other changes, while the New Zero Team version changes the stage order for some reason, it's hard to see them getting a separate release as well.
The game has you taking on a horde of enemies in a rather faceless evil organisation, as you attempt to rescue a kidnapped woman in a blue dress. Why she's been kidnapped or who she is is never explained. In fact the story telling in this game is pretty much zero as the game doesn't even have an opening intro in attract mode like Final Fight.
You get the choice of four player characters Ace, Speed, Spin and Spin-O each with slightly different attributes. Where Zero Team really stands out is that each character has a very large selection of movies to use in-game far more so than most scrolling beat'em ups. In fact the balancing and gameplay in this one really is first class making it a better game in the genre than titles like Final Fight. The animation is also excellent as are the pixel visuals, but in 1993 they were up against some tough competition. Music is by far the weakest element of the games with the music being okay at best.
All in all it's a great addition to the genre and one that more people will get to play now that it is available via the Arcade Archives. The fact Hamster is the first company to correctly emulate it means this is a must pick up.

Sunset Riders gave the Contra run and gun format a huge makeover, one that proved to be very popular. Drawing from the licensed titles it had worked on, it created over the top characters and villains that came alive in the arcade. The western setting was perfect for the genre with the the game draws from decades of cowboy films. As you would expect from a Konami game of this era the stage design was top notch stuff. From the cattle ranch with charging bulls, riding on horse back as you chase down a train, a shoot out in an old town and its saloon and a hairy raising gun battle on top of a train.
At around 30 minutes long it was the perfect length for a game of this nature. One of the better run and guns that could be learned fairly quickly and isn't that hard master. The four player characters are split into two groups pistols and shotguns, Steve and Billy use the rapid fire pistols which are faster firing and do more damage, but lack the shot spread. Where as Bob and Cormano have the shotguns with the slow firing spread, which makes the game a little easier we always felt.
The game had so many classic one liners like "Bury me with my money" often misheard as "Marriage me with my money". To others like "Draw pilgrim!" & "You in heap big trouble".
On the downside this Arcade Archive version has some minor changes and censorship linked to the SNES version El Greco doesn't say "Die, Gringo!" on starting the fight (N.B. the Japanese subtitle remains unchanged) and Chief Scalpem uses Chief Wigwam as his name instead. So unless this version used a later revision of the arcade board, it has been altered. Which is deeply disappointing as these games should be left intact and unchanged even if people find certain elements in the game offensive, as this shows the mistakes made in the past and how we have changed. Trying to hide or alter them is to ignore history, which mean we are more likely to repeat those mistakes if we ignore or bury them.
If like us you played this one in the 90s it really is a must buy and there is plenty of fun to be had taking on Simon Greedwell, Hawkeye Hank Hatfield, Dark Horse, The Smith Bros, El Greco, Chief Scalpem, Paco Loco & Sir Richard Rose all over again.

Supporting up to four players Mystic Warriors sees Spyros, Keima, Kojiro, Brad and Yuri, taking on the Skull Gang in a clever twist the plot has you trying to rescue one of your team. As after you select your player characters the game picks one at random or the unselected and has then captured by the Skull Gang. It's a very well made game, but just doesn't quite reach the heights of Sunset Riders. Which gets a nod to in the opening stage with a drive in cinema showing a film version of the western classic. The villains just aren't as good there is nothing really interesting about the skull gang and many of them look very generic and lack a ninja feel to them. The game is somewhat harder, but can still be mastered once you learn it.
It's still a very good game in it's own right, but was largely ignored by arcade owners on release. Our team only ever saw the cabinet once in the United Kingdom and never again. Which likely explains why it is rarely talked about. Now thanks to Hamster more people will finally get the chance to play it and if you enjoyed Sunset Riders then Mystic Warriors will be right up your street, give it ago.

As for the Vietnam DLC well that added no single player content and instead allowed you to play multiplayer on five new maps all themed after the Vietnam war. You have to wonder if it would have worked better as a stand alone game, as with it being DLC, these days very few people even on Xbox still play. So for the most part this is just us running around the map driving the different vehicles, with only a few players turning up.
Come the 8th of December 2023 this content will no longer be playable in any form.

While a great game, all the home versions lacked the extra content and modes to really keep gamers coming back for more. Features like time of day, different cars, free drive mode, story mode, co-op play and multiplayer were all very much needed to expansed the series in the home form and none of these ever appeared in the main games. All you could unlock was the other drives and the bikes. The crazy box mode was little more than a selection of mini-games that took a few hours to finish.
The Xbox 360 version added in widescreen support, but removed the original soundtrack from Bad Religion and The Offspring, that said the original game took three songs from each band and only used four of them in gameplay. Yes that's right when driving only the same four songs ever looped. Fair to say the songs quickly get tiring after a while and they never quite fitted with the happy fun crazy nature of the game. This 2010 does the rather other things of removing the more expensive bands in favour of some lesser known ones for an even weaker soundtrack. Rather than creating an original soundtrack or even just adding in music from other classic SEGA games like Daytona, SEGA Rally etc.. The other change is that all brand names have been taken out so no more Pizza Hut or Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). There are also some frame rate issues as well, which can be seen at points in the video.
All these changes do subtract from the game somewhat, but it's still the Arcade and Dreamcast title we all love. This one is available to buy at present on the Xbox One so should remain after the Xbox 360 store closes, but remains at risk of delisting at any point due to the included licensed music. It's time to make some Crazy Money.
Due to all the licensed music used in the game we have had to replace it with YouTube Music and some from the free music website incompetech run by Kevin MacLeod.

PAC-MAN 99 uses the original arcade map layout and has a few adjustments to the original gameplay format to create this new 99 player version. This time round you can change how the perks affect you and you can spawn extra ghosts and re-spawn pills by picked up up various items on the map. The aim is to rack up a high score while chaining ghosts kills and pills, doing so allows you to send attacking PAC-MEN to other players, the longer the game goes on the more stronger they become. The white and yellow ones just slow and stun you, but the red PAC-MeN are just as deadly as touching a ghost. As the battle goes on more of them spawn and you can't take them out with power pills either. You only get one life so there is no room for error here, last player standing is the winner and trust me when I say it's pretty damn hard to win, so you do need to get good at PAC-MAN for this one.
The game also had a huge selection of skins and themes from other 80s & 90s classic Namco arcade games. So if you ever wanted to see PAC-MAN looking like Rolling Thunder, Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, Dig Dug, The Tower of Druaga, Dragon Spirit, Mappy, Sky Kid, Cosmo Gang, or Xevious, this was the game for you. With over 25 skin to pick there was plenty to choose from, was "past tense" being the key word here.
Overall it a great little game and I don't see why Namco felt the need to bin it, when they could have just reduced the price and bundled it with the offline mode by default. Sadly unless you have already bought this one or have a time machine then you are out of luck on this one and I can only hope than Namco sees the light and re-issues the offline version.

Making it one in an increasing growing number of games where large sections of the game can no longer be played. In many of these cases this is largely down to the fact that the game doesn't support peer to peer online, feature bots in matches or allow for offline saving.
For many of these titles you do have to wonder why a set part of the game was online only in the first place. Despite what the name might suggest the 2012 Syndicate game on Xbox 360 did not support split-screen co-op or couch co-op as it is sometimes known. This mode saw you join or create a clan then level it up and unlock new perks for your agents as you finished missions and captured enemy chips. Each mission allowed for up to four players to take part in and the difficulty settings would adjust the number of armoured unit you faced, mercenary unit also only appeared on expert.
Riven gives an overview in the first ten minutes as he looks at some of the Xbox 360 games heavily impacted by online service closures and some that are little more than coffee coasters.

This is of the original Model 1 version under emulation, however SEGA Model 1 emulation is still far from perfect despite the hardware being 30 years old. While visuals and audio are largely correct, along with the controls, there is a issue with hit detection which causes some hits not to register at all. However, with only a handful of video on the original arcade version with a lucky few owners of the original PCB. We felt it was time to do a video on it even if this version is flawed.
Back in 1993 this really was a cutting edge arcade game and impressive to look at. The original arcade version was a little rough in the gameplay department as it was rather unfairly balanced against the player with the CPU always having more health. The damage range on some moves also changes wildly based on the hit, with some moves doing up to 80% damage. It's fair to say this laid the building blocks for its bigger and cooler sequel.
While 3D cutting edge at the time, Model 1 hardware did face the issue of not looking as good as many of the 2D arcades in 1993 and it's easy to see why SEGA quickly upgraded to Model 2. Full credit to SEGA AM2. Note we had to remove the opening intro due to a content id claim from SEGA, you can see the intro in this unlisted version of this video: youtu.be/9-Le5-S_e-o

#VirtuaFighter #SEGAAM2 #Arcade
The original Virtua Fighter is best remember as the game that took the fighting genre into 3D. While it lacked the flair of Street Fighter II and wasn't as popular. It was a major hit in arcade on release, with the impressive 3D models battling it out, which was a revolution at the time. The look of the characters and the gameplay had a very polished feel and the first time you saw it in the arcade you stopped to watch. Remix did also get an ST-V arcade version, but this was extreme uncommon to see in arcades, largely due to the the fact it released after the Model 2 arcade release of Virtua Fighter 2. So there was little reason to carry it over the vastly superior sequel.
One area the original game falls down in is the balancing and you can see this in the video. As Akira may be our editor's favourite character is very poorly balanced in the first game and is one of the weaker characters. Characters like Kage, Lau, Pai and Wolf are very better and more powerful, this can even be seen with Akira A.I. who you can just block and counter punch. Hi lack of hi, low combos or escape combos, mean most attacks leave his open to counter. On the plus side his damage scaling can be a bit crazy with his back charge able to do 80% damage in one hit on the right counter frames. This is likely explain by the fact he was the last character added into the game, but beating Dural as him is very tricky compared to other characters. Hence why riven didn't win in the video,
Remix is a huge improvement over the original version in terms of graphics, one minor flaw is the floor lights no longer changes colour in Sarah's stage, the white ones only dim a little and the red ones no longer flash on and off. Also you can no longer knock off the hat of Pai or Kage's bandana, both seems fixed to the model in this version.

While at first glance you might think not much has changed, when you sit down and play the tables you will notice it. The big adjustment is to Knight of the Roses which make the big ramp on the left far easier to get around. In earlier version the ball would often fail to make it around the ramp, the ball also seems less likely to get stuck and a number of bugs that happened when playing the cheat table Victors has been fixed. Adjustments were made to make the ball move more realistically.
Best version of the game on the system with a very short demo of Necronomicon, you get around 3 minutes and one ball to play the table. However a large chuck of Necronomicon is on the disc and as this game released around a year after Necronomicon it quite likely you could unlock more elements of the game via action replay. Unlockable cheats are below.
Pinball Dot Matrix Animation Test
On the title screen while "Press Start" is flashing press: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, X, X, Start.
The game will enter a test mode for Dot Matrix animation.
Press Start after the debug information appears showing Vers 3.0 to allow table selection, pick a Table, then select the Dot Matrix animation you want then press A, to watch the animation.
Playable Secret Machine Victor and Ending Credits

At it's core is a classic dungeon style gameplay unlike Darkness, however this expands into the open world with you exploring forest, caves, shrines, towers, crypts and more. Combat is classic turn based battles with the player characters and enemies attacking in a set order based on the characters speed. The party is made up of eight characters in total, Arthur, Melody, Rodi, Basso, Akane, Forte, Lisa & Doyle. You can have four players in active battle, but can swap in the four reserve characters in at any time.
Riven provides an overview of the game at the start of the video, which he is currently streaming on twitch. So this video is just past the halfway point in the game and gives us a chance to show a later section in the game where we have access to five party members and a number of weapons and skills. We show a bit of Enrich town, the return to Enrich Dungeons the battle with Rilix which is done unpromoted and means Arthur can't equip the Scared Sword in the battle.
Finally we show you how to unlock and recruit the secret party member Doyle, who can be unlocked after Rilix is defeated, by visiting Far East Village chief and then searching the new tree that has appeared in Desire Village. Interestingly the order you can get certain party members to join you. As after you gain the Sacred Sword you can sequence break, by doing the west shrine and even the east shrine. Before visiting the Enrich castle to defeat Rilix this mean Lisa can be obtain even before Akane if you don't return to Far East Village after getting the sword.
Finally we have an unreleased in English cheat / hint for you if you enter your name as "ZX-9R" ignore the quotation marks and use capital letters Arthur and Melody will start the game with a large number of the item Quick Chicken in their inventory, confirmed working in the PAL version. The Hyphen used is the one next the the / and & signs. Someone at Sonic! Software Planning was a fan of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-9R motorbike it seems, downside is you have to put up with a joke name for Arthur for the whole game. We have two other name cheats we are currently checking out. but we suspect they may only work in the Japanese version.
One of the best RPGs on the Sega Saturn made by a team that really knew what they were developing and finished off with a superb Motoi Sakuraba music score. While a few elements have dated slightly, the frame rate is somewhat up and down and while the game is locked at 30fps some parts run at 60fps and others at a much lower rate between 15-25fps. Enrich Town is quite bad for slowdown. Shopping menus can also be rather slow to navigate. Still this is a must own for Saturn fans and RPG gamers.
Shining Trivia wise this game takes place in the timeline after Shining in the Darkness at least over a thousand year and around 10 years before the Shining Force III trilogy. Twitch playthrough highlights is available here: twitch.tv/collections/VG59NzU5Mhetww

To be fair Dr. Luigi was the best version of the the game to date with a number of different puzzle modes Operation L, Germ Buster, Retro Remedy and online play. The other feature of this special version is the fact that you get a special L shaped pills to defeat the germs with. It's a well made title from Akira, but doesn't really do anything new, still on the plus side there is plenty of colour to it and everything looks great.
The aim as always with Dr. Mario is to match four pills or germs of the same colour to eliminate them all. The germs as always are the three primary colours red, blue and yellow. As with Tetris and most arcade style puzzle games the aim is avoiding filling the top of the screen with blocks or in this case pills. As of 2023 Nintendo no longer want you to buy the game either which is really kind of them...

Another issue is the fact many fans where expecting Evolution Worlds to be a new instalment in the series. Not just a rehash of the previous two games, which left many Dreamcast owning Gamecube fans somewhat disappointed assuming you could find a copy. As here in the United Kingdom Ubisoft did their best to bury the game in fact we aren't even sure it got a release in the UK, all we can confirm is that there is an English & Italian PAL skew. The version shown in video is the German & Spanish release, which had all the English text on the disc.
If you haven't played it Evolution is a rogue dungeon RPG series, Which stars Mag Launcher, Linear Cannon, Gre Nade, Chain Gun, Pepper Box & Carcano. Yes all the names have a clear weapons theme. Mag Launcher is an adverturer out to make a name for himself and restore the Launcher family honour. You explore ruins, which use randomly generated title sets for each floor. The aim is to explore each ruin and defeat the boss found at the end of it, find items and equipment to sell or equip. Most of the characters use Cyframes which can be upgraded or equip with new parts, you can also earn Tech Points which can be used to unlock new skills. Giving all the player characters a large selection of skill to use in combat. The story is a fun and upbeat adventure and once you beat the game you have the after game that sees Mag paying off the family debt.
Enemies are randomly place on each floor and you can choose to avoid or fight them or avoid them. Gain and advantage or disadvantage if you can surprised them from behind or if they surprised you. Combat is turn based with a action order showing who goes next. You also have a formation system that allows you to move characters to the front or back, this affects your movement order, defence and attack.
While the random nature of most of the dungeons makes them a rather repetitive, Evolution Worlds is a solid RPG, that isn't going to break the mould and there are far better RPGs on the system like Baten Kaitos, Paper Mario and Skies of Arcadia Legends. As far as rogue games goes there aren't many on the system and it's still a decent title. PAL owner be noted the game is partly optimised for 576i 50Hz, so can't be forced in 480i 60Hz, the PAL version isn't easy to find either.

The other addition is four new characters with Ash Crimson & Blue Mary making their first Maximum Impact appearance a new character called Xiao Lon and a guest character from Fighter's History Makoto Mizoguchi, the latter also acts as a hidden 9th boss fight. All the characters from Maximum Impact 2 apart from Armor Ralf (An enhanced version of Ralf Jones) who was removed due to being overpowered the character had super armour that gave him a massive advantage.
This is a raw arcade port, so features very little in the way of modes, outside of time attack, which is the arcade ladder with no story or cutscenes, it only offers, practice and offline & online versus matches, no extras either. The ladder features eight fights with the last one being a boss fight against Nightmare Geese, Duke & Jivatma. If you can beat the game in under 12 minute then the character that won the boss battle will have a one on one bonus fighter against Makoto Mizoguchi. The best of the three Maximum Impact titles but still not a perfect game, never released outside of Japan which suggest it wasn't that successful as it was also the last game in this spin off series.

Original released on PlayStation 2 & Arcade this version was one of the last games in the series to use the NEOGEO sprite look before, SNK Playmore went with redrawn sprites in the rather unfinished XII. While 2002 Unlimited Match has very little in the way of new content other than a new character called nameless who replaces K9999 and a few new moves for some of the characters. It's main selling point is the sheer number of characters it features, making it the most content complete title in the series to day. It's a shame SNK didn't add in the few missing characters to complete the entire roster from all the NEOGEO titles.
It's main admissions being the newer character from 2003 and XI, along with a few characters from the earlier games largely the sports team and bosses. As it stands there are over 60+ characters with all the extra versions.
So is this the best of the old style King of Fighters game, well that up to you to decided? There is no story in this one at all, not that it really needs it, this is just pure fighting fun. As with NEOGEO Battle Coliseum you have a selection of bosses to fight and pending on what you do in each fight depends on which boss you end up fighting. All the bosses are from the Nests Saga storyline along with an extra fight against Rugal who was the boss of the original 2002.
The Xbox 360 version requires you unlock all the bosses the first revision of the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 4 release have them unlocked by default.

We haven't covered the game to date on Randomised Gaming and it was time we corrected that with a look at the excellent 2019 arcade port from M2 which includes a wealth of new modes and features. Including wide screen support, Komainu Barrier Attack, Online Ranking and the extra boss Haya-Oh originally created for the home versions.
This really is the king of on-rails shooters as you the harrier take on the forces trying to take over the Fantasy Zone. The game felt more like a theme park ride in the 89s with the way you zoomed through each level at high speed. Featuring 18 stages each with different names, most had you blasting your way through on coming enemies trying to avoid obstacles and incoming fire. While some terrain can be destroyed, others have to be avoided. A few stages act like overhead tunnels and two bonus stages have you riding a white dragon clear borrowed from the 1984 film The Neverending Story.
It's a timeless game and while this roller coaster of a game only last around 20 minutes, perfectly designed for the time and remains a classic everyone should own.

After the creator of Strider Kouichi “Isuke” Yotsui left Capcom it wouldn't be until 1996 that he got to develop his version of Strider 2. Which ended up being called Cannon Dancer and saw a release into arcade in 1996, sadly the game didn't perform that well and by all accounts few units were sold outside of Japan. So consider yourself lucky is you ever played or saw it.
Likely this was down to the game's late release of 1996, by which point 3D titles were all the rage. It also had to compete with titles like Marvel Super Heroes and Metal Slug both of which have vastly superior looking 2D. Finally the game's tough starting difficulty made it very unwelcoming to first time players.
Cannon Dancer is like Strider an off the wall platformer with you have to jump, climb and kick your way through an endless army of enemies. Understanding the layout of each stage and all the moves, including the air suplex and rolling throw are key to having any chance of beating the game on a single credit. So far we managed to reach stage 5 without using any extras, however the final stage is in a league of it's own throwing boss after boss at you, including a fight with an enhanced clone, the three agents which change the order you fight them in one and the final boss. Hope you saved all your super attacks as you are going to need them.
This new released from United Games Entertainment, includes some great extras to help beat the game, but little in the way of extras. No, sound test, art gallery and worst of all the dipswitch are all missing which limits replay values as a result.

Alice Dreams Tournament from Patbier & Poche, borrows the classic Bomberman versus format while adding in its own selection of modes. While there isn't a single player story mode, there is a high score mode where you compete against the clock to beat as many enemies as possible, increasing your score further via combo chain. At the end of it you get a code to register on the official website.
Secondly you get three tournaments of 3, 5 & 7 game matches, with each round using a different game mode. There's also the multiplayer mode which allows 1 - 4 players to play on a single map or mode, picking the various gameplay settings and conditions.
Some of the original modes include Colours, A take on Splatoon with you trying to paint as much of the screen as possible. Brain Battle, a rather interesting stage which has you solving maths puzzles as you avoid bombs blasts to win. Bodyguard, which splits you into two teams, one has a bodyguard and target to protect the other team has to take down the target. Hide & Seek, takes advantage of the special VMU feature which allows the game to be played on the tiny screen in order to hide from the other players, winner is the one who survives the longest.

ININ Games have released three titles in the Ninja JaJaMaru series recently on digital stores Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great Yokai Battle Plus Hell, Ninja JaJaMaru: Retro Collection and Ninja JaJaMaru: The Lost RPGs. The latter two are retro collections of older games. The Deluxe Edition includes The Great Yokai Battle and the Retro Collection at retail. If you want a retail version that includes all three titles then you will need to buy the JaJaMaru: Legendary Ninja Collection from Strictly Limited Games.
Ninja JaJaMaru: The Lost RPGs feature English translations of Ninja JaJaMaru: Ninja Skill Book (1989, NES) & Ninja JajaMaru: The Legend of the Golden Castle (1990, NES) it is not shown in this video.
Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great Yokai Battle Plus Hell is a new modern entry in the series. It's a modern take on the classic arcade platformer, while includes retro styled visuals mixed with modern gameplay and music. The aim is to clear all the enemies on each stage. You unlock characters as you go, so there is plenty to see and do, each stage also has set bonus mission, such as reaching a certain combo level to spawn flower petals, collecting all coins and taking no damage. Which is no mean feat, the more you play the more you unlock as you collect gold coins. If you are up for a challenge there is also a ranking mode.
The retro collection includes the following six titles from the series:
Ninja JaJaMaru-kun (1985, NES)
Ninja JaJaMaru’s Big Adventure (1986, NES)
Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great World Adventure (1990, Game Boy)
Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great World Adventure DX (2023, Game Boy Color)
Ninja JaJaMaru: Operation Milky Way (1991, NES)
Super Ninja-kid (1994, SNES)
Highlight from this collection are by far Ninja JaJaMaru: Operation Milky Way on NES and the superb Super Ninja-kid. Also new to this collection is the Game Boy Color version of Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great World Adventure, which was made for it. Previous the Game Boy title had been released in America under the name Maru's Mission

Included games are:
Wonder Boy (Arcade, SEGA Master System, Game Gear, SG-1000)
Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade, SEGA Master System)
Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair (Arcade, SEGA Mega Drive)
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap (SEGA Master System, Game Gear)
Wonder Boy in Monster World SEGA Mega Drive, Game Gear
Monster World IV (SEGA Mega Drive)
Not included are the NES / PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 versionS which were done by Westone and Hudson Soft. Some of these game did appear on the now closed Wii Virtual Console, they were also missing from the M2 collection.
This version includes the English releases of the Arcade Wonder Boy in Monster Land and Monster World IV. Both of which didn't surface until after the M2 collection was made. This version includes maps for each game (some of which are incomplete), an art gallery (missing some art from the M2 collection), improved emulation over the M2 one. However the test modes for Wonder Boy in Monster Land & Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair. The debug mode for Monster World IV that requires a second controller also doesn't appear to work. It includes a new rewind feature, which is great for the original arcade Wonder Boy, but it lacks the video replay function seen in the PS2 collection.
Despite a few minor issues this really is the best way to play the series on modern formats. You can see our review of the games included on this collection in our previous M2 collection review: randomisedgaming.tumblr.com/post/76858675087/randomised-gaming-vol-8-review-sega-ages-2500

The Xbox version is available to uses who own a digital release of Rare Replay or who have Game Pass. Sadly if you own a retail version, you can't download it, which is rather disappointing and will have to buy one of the latter at present, unless there is a patch update in the future for the game.
GoldenEye really is a timeless classic and plays superbly in this new version. The game now supports dual analogue controls and plays quite a bit smoother compared to the N64. It's not quite perfect Seres X & Switch owner have reported frame dips. The cheat codes have also been removed in the Xbox version so it's unclear if Line mode / Wire Frame mode can still be accessed. The control changes also mean that the ability to lean doesn't work at present.

Ground breaking at the time, Bleem didn't last long as Sony were quick to get their lawyer involved and in the end the project was shut down. Only three games officially supported it and each had their own disc needed in order to run, the three games were Gran Turismo 2, Metal Gear Solid and Tekken 3. This video shows all the intros along with a full playthrough as Hwoarang and a short splitscreen comparison at the end.
While the emulation may not be 100% perfect, unlike many other early emulators it is very very closes and many would argue that the improvements make it better to play than on the PS1 itself. There are a few more graphics bugs we noticed as these can be seen in the intro with the sky box and environment joins, being seen. The auto save doesn't seems to working 100% of the time and the manual save is the better option.
On released Tekken 3 looked a visually dated game in arcades and got taken apart by Virtua Fighter 3 in the graphics department. Gameplay wise, however this third outing included many improvements to the previous Tekken games, packed full of extra characters and modes on the home release. While the PS1 version had to removed the 3D arcade backgrounds, so elements like the helicopter on King's stage got axed. While the arcade version was included on Tekken 5 for the PS2. The amount of extra content in this version means this home port ends up being a better game overall.
Comparison at the end of the video is the PAL version of the game captured on a Dreamcast and a PSOne (PS1) with no extra features running.

You often seen coin operated rides in malls, supermarkets and arcades designed for young children to sit on for a few minutes. Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car was one such ride that largely only released in Japan,a few were exported to the west with English labels, but the game remained in Japanese. A western release was planned and cancelled it appears, which was a huge mistake by SEGA as they could have used rides like this to dominate supermarket space and help drive consumer towards SEGA games and products.

Graphics and sound are decent for the time, but nothing special. The controls are also somewhat awkward for a pool game and take a little while to learn. The A.I. has a decent spread with the different characters including Buddy the dog. While the hardest A.I. is unstoppable at pool, it doesn't seem to know how to play Snooker all that well. By all account you need to play this online with friends to get the most out of it.

The main selling point of the series is the master mode, where the game ranks you on your performance, with blocks dropping faster and faster until they become uncontrollable. Only highly skilled players will be able to handle the blocks at higher speeds. At the end it grades players and only the best will score the top ranks. Getting the rank just down to 1 is tough enough.
The end result is a version of Tetris that is highly addictive as you attempt to get the best scores going and you will often find your saying one more go as you try and improve your rank.

This includes the Gold medal winners Nigeria and quarter finalists Ghana, also missing are Tunisia, Korea Republic and Mexico who also took part. Instead a large chuck of the roster is teams that didn't take part or failed to qualify. It gives you the impression that the Olympic license may have been added at the last minute and this was just going to be a general football title at one stage, based on the number of team errors. The league mode requires you play each team twice, before it ends.
So what's it like as a football game? Certainly has a fan following and the gameplay is solid enough. Even if the game does look like a dog's dinner, likely due to its 3D0 origins. Shooting and passing works well and there are a number of options and moves like heading, back pass, overhead kick. Pretty good for the day, but lacking in some areas, with tackling the only way to get the ball off opposition players.
The A.I. of your own players is somewhat suspect at times, while the opponent A.I. can be unstoppable at times. Making for some annoying matches, as the team mates on your side can do some very silly things. It's a decent enough game, lots of options, but there are better football titles on the system. World League Soccer '98 on Saturn should be considered a follow up as it was also developed by Silicon Dreams. The league mode requires you to play each team twice, before it ends. So cheers along for your favourite team to see who wins!

T-Hawk has a different forward and backward walk (crossed arms) animation in this version, in the Dreamcast version his backwards walk just used his forward animation. The Saturn version came out after the Dreamcast version, so we can only assume the animation was finished after the Dreamcast version was finished. Only the PlayStation 2 version of Upper which was featured on the Alpha Anthology also included this animation, that version also included extra moves, not seen in any other version. The PSP port was based on the Dreamcast version and so is missing the extra animation seen in the Saturn version.
One of the best if not the best port of the game due to how it plays. One of the best if not the best port of the game due to how it plays. Riven isn't a T-Hawk player so this is not the best run, but shows off the new animation perfectly. To date there is no perfect version of the game with the PS2 version having extra moves and balance changes over the PSP version, but the handheld port includes more characters.

Warrior Blade is an excellent title that adds in some great fantasy elements to the scrolling beat'em up format, including stage selection and extras stages along with permanent power up and a great range of moves for each character. Rastan is joined by Dewey and Sophia and players can pick either of the three. There is also a wizard character called Mahadidekaradi, who depending on the arcade dip switch settings will appear with the player or has to be summoned via a pick up. Casting spells to help you against the enemies.
Despite all this the game never released outside of Japan, most likely due to the release of around late 1991 to June/July 1992. It was a case that the game just look old and outdated compared to games like Konami's Simpsons arcade, which released in early 1991. While two screens makes the game look stunning the expensive cabinet likely meant few arcade owner would have bought it, which is a shame as the game is excellent.
