Curse Containment Weather Control 2025-04-10 | Track 2 of 4 - Curse Containment:This is another track I am relieved is finally seeing the light of day and isn’t gathering dust on my hard drive anymore. This one was started all the way back in July 2020. The initial mix on it was so terrible I did not have the will to go through and get it right for the longest time. I did eventually return to the project in September of 2024. I think I finally achieved a good balance after a lot of overhauls of the synths, drums, and the overall mix and master. It’s not an overly complex track but there are a lot of elements competing with each other which made it challenging to finish. I picture a struggle to contain some kind of evil magic artifact or a clash between arcane forces when I think of this track (I guess the real struggle was the mix and actually finishing this). Neonthrill (w/ CANYOUCOOK) Weather Control 2025-04-10 | Track 3 of 4 - Neonthrill:Alex (Canyoucook) and I started this track in October of 2020 . The main lead sound in the first drop is from one of his hardware synths, we basically spent an evening tweaking different parameters trying to get interesting sounds. (There’s about an hour of random sounds we recorded in total). The second drop just is a software synth recreation of some of the melody that was played but it fit in really well. We didn’t have any set goals for this track and it ended up not fitting in with our duo project “Heatstorm” so it found a home on this EP as a collab. It’s been a while since I’ve made something this drum and bass / breakbeat / dubstep inspired, so it ended up being kind of challenging to work on. Of course it still has the cinematic edge that ends up in so many of my tracks, just with more electronic influences. To me this felt like a proper ending to the EP. It sounds like a resolution to a story, and if this EP had a fleshed out narrative, this would be the traveler’s return to his current time. Epimetheus (Full Album Mix) Weather Control 2024-04-25 | In Greek Mythology, Epimetheus was known as the god gf hindsight, and often portrayed as somewhat foolish in comparison to his more well known brother, Prometheus, god of foresight. As someone who will sometimes dwell on the past for too long, I thought of Epimetheus in a different light, as a god of reflection rather than regret. A god whose gift to mankind was wisdom and learning from experience.I explored a lot of cinematic sounds in my previous (and first) album “The Seven Omens” and this album ended up being very similar in that aspect, but went in some different directions with the concepts behind them. Both have cinematic themes throughout but whereas “The Seven Omens” is more adventurous, “Epimetheus” is more introspective. A more internal journey rather than an external. Something a little more subdued and poignant.Another through line for “Epimetheus” is that most of the tracks have two distinct sections. I wanted to explore writing more dynamic music, I think it better represents how I think of music as a story. Interesting stories have highs and lows and often involve a lot of change, and I think interesting music can work the same way. I’m not sure what is next after this project. I’ve been in the mindset of wanting to work on larger projects but I also have smaller collections that are much closer to being finished. Out of all the tracks on this album this one probably had the corniest project name - "Mega Ambient." Unforeseen Weather Control 2023-09-14 | Track 3 of 7Witness the aftermath of the disintegrationThis was one of those rare tracks that was 95% done in two hours, all while I was streaming. That experience was great, getting feedback from people while sculpting and arranging everything. The whole track is slowed down by 3 semitones, I remember playing with varispeed on stream and very quickly realizing how much better I liked it slowed down. Makes sense that slowed+reverb tracks are so popular. And shout out to Carolyn for the name "Erasmus", referencing the patron saint of sailors - even though I decided on a different name for the track, it very much inspired the ideas I had around it. I'll still have to use that name for a different track, but I've had the idea to name a track "Aphelion" for a long time. That meaning has captured my attention for some reason, being far away from a star just lends itself well to metaphors. I had a version of this posted to my alt soundcloud "whether control" for a while, when I went back and listened that old version was way way worse haha. I wanted to portray a journey - from the light and hopeful intro, through to the melancholy verse, and to an ending that was willing to begin again. Haven Weather Control 2023-09-14 | Track 6 of 7Reminiscing of home where the omen of night guarded the arks, in the place that feels most familiar: Haven.If I'm not mistaken I believe I worked on this track on stream at some point. This track was influenced by the Hollow Knight soundtrack, particularly the songs that play in Greenpath and Queen's Garden. I think I talked about that on stream, or at least compared the similarities to this and the soundtrack. The art I originally pictured for this was a flooded forest under a full moon. I had iterations where I thought I got close but I kept envisioning a video game level or just a video of a forest at night. Unknowable Weather Control 2023-09-14 | Track 7 of 7There will always be outcomes beyond the horizon"Unknowable" started its life as a "Be Not Afraid." This was another track I made on stream back on July 30th 2021, over two years ago at this point! I remember somehow the topic of biblically accurate angels got brought up and that ended up being the track name for a long time. It still fits the sound of the track for sure, I also remember searching my sample library for "angel" and pulling in a bunch of unrelated samples and using them to create an unsettling atmosphere that gave way to a cinematic section with choirs and horns. Album Announcement - Out 9.14.23! Weather Control 2023-09-09 | These seven tracks are almost nostalgic for me at this point, the majority of them were created on stream back in 2021 and captured a cinematic feeling I hadn't tried in a long time. I knew for a while that I wanted to put together an album of tracks I created on stream - but for at least a year I held off on releasing them, procrastinating on the visuals and the final touches on the songs. It's almost like a relief to finally share these after holding on to them for so long!I've been focusing on finishing other songs and bringing other ideas back to life. I hope I am slowly shifting my mindset out of procrastination and perfectionism and I can share what I'm working on more often. There have been at least a couple of times over the years when I've released new music and told myself I'd be consistent, only to go right back to procrastinating. Lately I've been focusing on the work itself and putting in the effort to complete projects, rather than overthinking the release and reception - and I hope that makes a difference. Like I said in my last video, I'd rather have a discography than hundreds of unfinished clips.
