She wanted to be able to double stack canned goods on the original shelf, allowing for other goods on the new shelf.Our new pantry shelf is not only functional but also matches the existing shelves. My wife will no longer need to rummage through disorganized shelves to find what she needs. How to Repair a Vintage Chair: DIY Tutorial Billy Burt (The Messy Studio) 2023-09-08 | Welcome to today's video on vintage chair repair. You can see more of my videos here: youtube.com/channel/UCk6YGwd7-29L_XAlUd_pzIA. There's something special about restoring an old piece of furniture, especially if it's a vintage chair. If you're someone who loves to restore old chairs and give them new life, this is the video for you. In this video, I'll take you through the steps on how I repair and restore a vintage chair, so let's get started.Step 1: Assess the damageThe first step in repairing a vintage chair is to assess the damage. Check the entire chair for any damage or wear and tear. Look for loose joints, cracks, and scratches on the chairs. Once you've identified the damages, take note of them.Step 2: Disassemble the chairNow it's time to carefully disassemble the chair. If your chair has removable cushions or fabric, you can take them off first and set them aside. I didn't see the need in fully removing them on this chair, but I did undo what was necessary. Then remove all screws, bolts, and other fittings from the chair. Label all the parts as you remove them to make reassembly easier.Step 3: Repair the damagesWith all the pieces disassembled, it's time for some repair work. If there are loose joints, you can use wood glue to stabilize them. In this case, there were two joints that weren't just loose, they came apart with little effort. Cracks and scratches can be filled with wood filler (as a last resort) and sanded. If it is possible, gluing the crack back together is a better option. As was the case with this chair. If the chair has visible water damage, use a wood stain to cover it up and restore the chair's original appearance.Important note: What do you do if you have a broken wooden leg or round slat that cannot be repaired? If you have a wood lathe, you can turn a new one to match. This was not necessary in this case because the split in the leg was almost vertical and split along the grain making gluing rather easy.Step 4: Paint or Refinish the ChairOnce all the repairs are done, you can move on to painting or refinishing the chair. If you're repainting the chair, make sure to sand it down to remove any old paint and create a smooth surface. That was unnecessary with this chair, but if you must, use a primer to ensure the new paint adheres well. If you're refinishing the chair, sand it down to bare wood, then apply a wood stain or paint. Again, that wasn't necessary here.Step 5: Reassemble the ChairNow that the glue, paint or stain is dry, it's time to reassemble the chair. Follow the labels you made earlier to put all the pieces back together. Use new screws or bolts to ensure a secure fit. Again, that was not necessary with this chair (except for one missing screw). Finally, replace the cushions and fabric.That's it. With these simple steps, you can bring a vintage chair back to life. Whether it's a family heirloom or a thrift store find, restoring a vintage chair is a satisfying experience. With a little patience and some elbow grease, you can create a beautiful and functional piece of furniture that will last for years to come. I wanted to try grilling some so this is the result. Marinated it for six hours in a mixture of balsamic vinegarette, teriyaki sauce and Korean BBQ Marinade.
