Inspired by the music I was listening to in 2016, each song is written to remind me of places I’ve been to, people I’ve been with, and experiences I’ve had. I wanted each to give me the feeling of being back there in some small way, as my year in America is a story (and time in my life) that is very special to me, and there are times when I miss it beyond belief. Hopefully this is embodied in the music you are listening to and if so, I hope you enjoy my year in America.

It's bizarre that even though this commonplace bit of gear is used in orchestral writing all over the world, it's so hard to get hold of a decent one. I picked the VS Faderbox as it seemed to be the answer - and ironically, at the time of writing this, it appears to be sold out.

If you have heard Among the Giants, you'll likely recognise the Redwoods theme that I wrote back in 2018 on 39 Seconds. This piece, written for the film with Aiden Appleton, builds on those ideas to reveal the whole of the journey down the West Coast: five days of camping in random spots overnight and hugging the coastline on Route 101, from Seattle to San Francisco.
Aiden and I talk about the pros and cons of studying music at university and how we also use critical listening to better our own methods. Granted, there's many things it can't teach you, but as a practice for understanding what it is that makes other composers' work successful, it could be the best way forward for a lot of people - especially given the current climate.
Breathing in the air for the hell of it Holding onto flying shapes that don’t fit I know this space in my head, I’ve seen it in your fears How could you have lost me when I’ve been here all these years Count the planes leaving scars across the sky And say it will be okay I will leave these shores, and tell you why I’ll come back to you one day
Looking in a space for a new glow Talking in a whisper like we don’t know And though it is a new day, you woke up in a cold How can you still love me when you know I feel so old Count the planes leaving scars across the sky And say it will be okay I will leave these shores, and tell you why I’ll come back to you one day
Count the planes leaving scars across the sky Tell me we’ll be okay Though the world has changed, you know this time I’ll come back to you one dayMarcus Warner - Deep Blue (feat. In November 2019 I released Reprise EP, a short orchestral album that involved more work both in the composition and collaborative stage than ever before in my career. To mark the significance of the original tracks, and the start of a new decade, my friends and I worked together to make this video showing you how the EP was made and, should you be looking to write an album of your own, provide an insight into how it all works from the perspective of someone who is new to the industry but has amassed enough experience to make it a full-time career.
I don’t claim for this to be the definitive guide, nor is it close to being complete, but I believe this covers the bare minimum of everything you need to know for writing, producing and releasing an album (of any kind) from start to finish. I hope you enjoy it!
Special thanks again to Rory Sherman and Sidonie Bishop for filming and taking part in this video, it wouldn’t have been possible without them.

Lyrics:
We will sing together And the mountains will hear our call And we will raise our voices Remembered forever, the Land of Equestria
We will dance through the country And the night and the day will be one Side by side, we will unite As one mind, as one soul, the name of Equestria
Oh, Luna's night full of bright stars With the moon shining down on the land Celestia's summer skies To guide us, to lead us, in ruling Equestria
We will live in joyous laughter With the love and the trust that we share And the world will know the good times Glory and honour, the Land of Equestria
It's been an incredible journey. To everyone who has stayed with me this far, thank you.

Reprise EP is the reimagining of six tracks from Marcus Warner's early days of composing music under the name Evening Star. Originally only intended to be a drum and bass project, Evening Star slowly transformed into a mixture of electronic, folk, and orchestral genres, led by inspiration from the show My Little Pony.
In 2012, I made the decision that I was going to write music for films one day. I changed my name, went to university, and continued to write music every spare hour I had. Seven years later, I am here to say thank you to everyone who has made this possible and a fandom that set the foundations for what would later become my full time career as a music composer. So, let's look back together at this crucial point in the show's history, and enjoy this reprise.

Affectionately labeled half vlog/half documentary, this film was made with one camera and a drone over a week of travelling. Alongside me on the journey is Eva, whose help and cinematography made the film what it is and allowed us to get some incredible footage whilst driving. A huge thank you to Tom, who was responsible for gathering his fellow musicians to take part in the piece, and to BMG, Runrig and Paul Mounsey, for allowing me to cover 'An Toll Dubh' as part of the soundtrack.

Lyrics:
Stay, in my shelter Beneath, a bed of stone Though tides, pull me under I’ll be carried, carried home Grey shorelines, break the silence With songs of rivers flow And I see you, cross the ocean But I will never go, I will never go But I will never go, I will never go
Taken, through the open To faceless, disarray Crowded hallways, filled with colours And rooftops, where giants play In streets, we heard a calling A house where, summers show Burnt feet, and cities sprawling But I will never go, I will never go But I will never go, I will never go
Stay, in my shelter Beneath, a bed of stone Though tides, pull me under I’ll be carried, carried home Grey shorelines, break the silence With songs of rivers flow And I see you, cross the ocean But I will never go, I will never goMarcus Warner - Where the Earth Meets the Sky (Continuous Mix)Marcus Warner2019-03-07 | Where the Earth Meets the Sky, the soundtrack to the film of the same name, is available to download and stream now. 39 Seconds, the fourth studio album by Marcus Warner, draws upon inspirations from around the world, combining them with a mixture of orchestral and electronic elements. The result is a diverse and uplifting palette of sound that is both thoroughly epic and unique.
Many of the tracks here have been inspired by my own experiences this year and so have a lot of meaning to me, perhaps more than any album I've released in the past. I hope you enjoy them.

Chasing voices down an empty street Where did all the words go? Standing frozen in the desert heat Is there something we know? And I ask myself What could you have me do? Find my way home Bring it all back to you
I’m falling with you and I can’t let go But how long can we fall for? We’ll catch the summer as the colours show And wash up on the seashore I’m underwater but I’m breathing sunlight And can you breathe it too? When the end is in sight I’m on the last page with you
Feeling hopeless in a warm embrace Tell me where you came from Breaking even in an endless space Is this how we move on? And you ask yourself What is the life you knew? Find our way home And breathe it all in with you
I’m falling with you and I can’t let go But how long can we fall for? Sidonie and I originally recorded this song back in 2013, when we were both in sixth form college together. I was still fairly new to music production back then and have been wanting to rewrite it again for a while now. A lot of fond memories associated with this piece - memories of late summer, of wheat fields in the sunset, of home.

Across the distant worlds, far off in the sky I can hear your calling voice, when the planets come sailing by The nights all sound the same, clouds drifting away The ocean sings my name, but my heart aches every day
'Cause when we ran across the hills in the breeze You gave me a gentle smile And when we lay under the shade of the trees We were with the world for a little while
In times of loneliness, they say you should be strong But I can't live like this when the evenings are so long Life around me always grows, like flowers in the spring Yet I ignore everything it shows, and the changes it may bring

It's been a hectic week. I returned home from France and after sorting last week's video, it was time to get into mixing and mastering the vocals for this song (recorded a few weeks ago). This video was then edited and colour graded in four days with the aid of many cups of tea. Hope you enjoy it!

Stuck in the same loop for a while Can’t recall the last time I saw you smile Rain outside the window, day after day And I hate it Perhaps it’s time to leave this place and run away If we know it’s what we want, what more is there to say
Ooh, ooh, ooh If the road lasts forever, I know we’re chasing daylight Ooh, ooh, ooh If we’re in this together, I know it’s gonna be right Ooh, ooh, ooh We made a world for each other but why are we pretending Ooh, ooh, ooh We can build ourselves another and make it never-ending
Worries laid upon me and a trouble so strange All these thoughts I’m having that I can’t explain You promise it gets better and you tell me things would change And you show it But you’re a different and now I am just the same And I know it, I know it
Discover who we are when we’re lost upon the seas (Can you open your eyes?) Burn down our house and build a new one in the trees (Can you taste it in the skies?) Summer in the backseat, wake up under the snow (Do you think it’s really true?) Laughing at our worries, we forgot them long ago (Do you love me like I love you?)
Woah, oh, oh If the road lasts forever, I know we’re chasing daylight Woah, oh, oh If we’re in this together, I know it’s gonna be right Woah, oh, oh We made a world for each other but why are we pretending Woah, oh, oh We can build ourselves another and make it never-ending
