「リボルバー / Revolver 」歌ってみた【 pickle131 】

pickle131vaa 2017-12-21 | The goal was to have this song out for late November, but I ended up taking more time to do a better job. I recorded this in a bunch of different voices but ended up going with a creepy/cute character voice because I was too embarrassed to record the speaking line in anything else XD (Actually it was inspired by Hiyoko Saionji's English voice, but a bit more airy and soft.) But I'm happy I decided to take a bit longer with this song because I think I was able to do it justice better than if I had rushed it. Of course it still isn't perfect and a lot could be improved but I'm happy with it overall. Beast in the Beauty will be out sometime in the new year since that one is the most difficult for me and I don't want to rush it.

「チェリーハント / Cherry Hunt 」歌ってみた【 pickle131 】

pickle131vaa 2017-11-08 | I have wanted to record the Royal Scandal songs for almost two years but never had the confidence. Right now I'm still kinda sick and my voice is lower than usual, so I figured what the heck, I'd take the chance to try to record Cherry Hunt with a bit of a more mature voice xD I opted to sing the chorus and a few other parts an octave down because I couldn't hit the high notes in the voice I was putting on and didn't want it to sound super inconsistent. Unfortunately my low voice is still very quiet though so I had to compress the heck out of it and kill the quality. ^^;; Maybe someday if I get a more powerful head voice I'll redo it properly, but for now I'm happy I could hit notes this low, because normally I can't sing the chorus an octave down XD My apologies for the bad mixing, I just couldn't seem to figure it out this time and the more I messed with it, the worse it got at this point. Since this is the best take I had I figured I'd share this one! I can always redo it later, but for now, I tackled one song from my dream series to record. Singing is only a hobby for me anyway and meant to be fun, so if it isn't perfect I'm not particularly bothered.

My apologies for the awful high notes XD My throat's messed up and it's hard to talk so all I can do is make tiny screeches. (PLEASE don't follow my example!!! Singing when sick is dangerous for your voice, and normally I never do this anymore. Halloween is just special to me and I wanted to record something no matter what, but I highly limited the amount of takes I allowed myself because I really didn't want to push it. It was bad enough I let myself record at all.) Might redo it eventually but for now at least I have a holiday upload!

「 One Day One Dream 」歌ってみた【 pickle131 】

pickle131vaa 2017-10-06 | Sorry for no uploads for such a long time!! I have been finding it hard lately to find time or motivation because I have been super busy combined with a slew of major stresses since the late spring xD;;; but I'm trying my best to still record occasionally when I get time and am up to it. I have also been mixing a really fun collab and I can't wait to share it! ^^

However! I recently realized that it has been a whole whopping 10 years since I first started recording covers O_O (old account is dead) This really surprised me. Recording songs here, despite not being as good or as popular as many other singers, has helped my confidence immensely. I may not be able to be as active now but I still greatly enjoy recording covers and singing has become a huge part of who I am. I never had the confidence to sing in front of anyone until I started singing here. Now I occasionally perform live, sometimes even for large audiences. I would have never believed 10 years ago that I would reach this point. Wow. Seriously, thank you guys so much for the encouragement. (Even back when I truly, horrendously sucked XD)

To celebrate this, I wanted to record the first Japanese song that got me interested in learning Japanese music, that I never had the confidence to record before. It isn't in my comfortable range, but I wanted to quickly give it a go anyway. It's far from perfect, but I'm still really happy with how far I've come. I used to not even be able to pronounce Japanese so I would just hum along. That's a huge difference!

「ローリンガール / Rolling Girl 」ピアノ歌ってみた piano version 【 pickle131 】

pickle131vaa 2017-08-31 | This song is not in a good range for me since half the song is near my break but I really love the lyrics and wanted to record it more for myself than anything else. One of those songs that you forget about for years and then start crying once you hear it again and just have to sing it xD (Please don't criticize pitch in this one; I'm trying to learn some healthier vocal techniques and am having a little trouble hitting correct pitches until I learn to control it a bit better. I am aware quite a few parts are off and am trying to use songs like this to stop being a perfectionist and release things anyway. Maybe I'll put up a different one when I get better ^^) I swear I uploaded a few other covers between this and the last Vocaloid one, but they keep getting blocked XD Luckily I just record for fun so it isn't too much of a problem just an annoyance. I LOVE this song and have wanted to record it since I first heard it in episode one. But I was being too much of a perfectionist and couldn't ever quite get a recording I was happy with. Decided to stop being dumb and just upload one, since my goal is never to be perfect anyway but to have fun singing and track progress. I am still trying to learn to control my head voice more so maybe I'll redo it later when I improve ^^ but for now I really wanted to share this one. pickle131vaa 2017-04-15 | Trying to sing more songs outside of my usual "song type" to expand vocal range! I LOVE listening to Luz's version of this song so I wanted to give it a shot! For so long I thought IW as incapable of doing a song like this, so instead of trying to do a solo...I used three separate voices and did a self chorus XD to make it even more challenging. I did leave the original harmonies instead of recreating my own, since I don't use autotune and I think the Vocaloid harmonies helped give it a more robotic/pop feel.

pickle131vaa 2017-01-02 | This song means a lot to me, and the Japanese lyrics were really adorable and motivating. The lyrics, combined with my love for Ace Attorney, got me through quite a bit of rough patches this year. I've been slowly working on this since (quite literally) the first time I heard the song. I wanted to save it for the end of the year, since it's a very nice transition song. I started out working with a direct translation that I made, but very quickly shifted to making it campy like the series XD I inserted a crap ton of references to the series, OST and some lines were also inspired by Turnabout Musical. (Which I highly recommend checking out if you're an Ace Attorney fan and haven't seen it yet.) This song means a lot to me, so it's kind of difficult to type a fitting description. I was really emotional finishing this up, and again now uploading it. It isn't perfect, but I really enjoyed working on this and I'm proud of how far it's come.

Dedicated to everyone who's been a part of my life this year. Special shout-out to everyone who helped me work on this in one way or another.

Ok so I realize I'm probably one of the few people who actually liked JJ from the beginning (I may be biased because I'm Canadian and he was kicking butt), but his performance in episode 11 was so emotional for me that I just had to record this. Stage fright doesn't always hit when you expect; so yes even though he competed before, it may have been his first time experiencing severe stage fright. (Or, as I suspected a few times, maybe his entire "King JJ" persona is a cover for anxiety; trying to convince himself he's "The King" so he doesn't run away.) I remember one time singing live and I completely flubbed the lyrics, my hearing stopped and I couldn't hear anything because I was so embarrassed. It took me a while to pick up the song again. This was a performance AFTER I already won a competition, when I least expected to have sudden anxiety. Picking yourself up when it happens is not easy at all, yet JJ still managed to pick himself up and smile, cheering on his fans. That takes incredible strength, and as Yuri said, that is something that should never be mocked. I know that this series is fictional (and anime to boot) but I have not had a scene resonate with me so much for such a long time XD; I suffer almost every day from near paralyzing self-doubt (I also use personas when performing live to try to hide this), and seeing the entire scene was just so realistic and well written that I cried so much. I haven't been able to sing in a while because I've been really sick, but for a comeback I'm so happy I could record this.

pickle131vaa 2016-10-11 | I can't remember if it was 9 or 10 years ago (because my old account is deleted) but I do remember starting to sing in Japanese some time around that long ago during early October/late December if I recall correctly. Never would I have expected it to change my life so much! I'm super tired today so I only took time for a quick one-shot, but to be honest, back when I sang this song for the first time it was a one-shot back then too probably so this is a fair comparison! pickle131vaa 2016-06-30 | Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I moved and my recording situation has been a bit difficult. Between constantly getting sick lately and living in a dorm where I'd probably get in trouble if I belt for hours (and where there's poor sound quality anyway), it's been hard to find time. I have still been recording when I can, but mostly VA work and prioritizing paid projects. Singing has been put a bit on the backburner since my vocal range suffered when I got really sick. I've been slowly been working back up to it though! I promise I'll have more uploads soon once I catch up on things.

This song doesn't have my normal vocal power because I recorded it at night in my dorm and was pretty much whisper-singing so that I wouldn't get in trouble since I'm not supposed to make much noise here hahaha. Sorry for the gross clicks and stuff, no pop filter here and no mic stand, so I had to hold the mic and amp it up to heck because I sang so quiet. (Which is also why so many notes are slightly off, but hopefully that sounds like a stylistic choice LOL)

I actually have been really stressed lately and haven't really had any way to destress where I'm currently staying. This song makes me really emotional, so I thought I'd try recording again to channel all the anxiety and stuff into a productive use. I'm feeling a ton better now and I'm really happy I was finally able to record again, so I guess everything worked out in the end. Time to face all the stress and win!!!! (Because I'm too stubborn to lose lol.)

It was pretty fun since it's an easy song to sing! I wasn't trying to sound like any particular character, but thought I ended up sounding most like Honoka. Confession: I actually don't like things like Love Live all that much. I don't dislike them, they just aren't interesting enough for me to care all that much. 「 Dance in the Fake 」歌ってみた ENGLISH version 【 pickle131 】

pickle131vaa 2015-11-10 | My brother got me to watch Rokka and I was REALLY surprised by how much I just loved the music in the series! My favourite song by far was Dance in the Fake and as soon as I heard it I knew I needed to sing it even though it would be ridiculously challenging. A song hasn't inspired me this much in a long time!! (IT JUST SOUNDS SO AWESOME.) This was also my second time translating a song directly from Japanese on my own, so parts of it may not be 100% accurate but I had a lot of fun reworking the lyrics! I also recorded a song for a game today, which I will be finishing up and sending tomorrow so it was a pretty productive day! (You guys probably won't be hearing that for a while, but it's one I've been working on for months when I get time so look forward to it~)

pickle131vaa 2015-08-23 | Whew! Sorry for not recording for so long, this has literally been the most unexpected crazy summer of my life. I've really been challenging myself to do do things I've always been afraid of and to improve as both a person and VA/singer. Of course with pushing yourself means there are also many times where you hit walls and feel like a breakthrough is impossible. It's been a bit of an emotional roller coaster bouncing between the two haha, and I really felt this song represented kind of how I've been feeling. I'm behind on a few projects I wanted to finish before recording any more covers, but I really wanted to sing this one for motivation. Really motivated to chase your dreams but at the same time constantly fighting those voices in your head trying to tell you you're worthless and delusional. But I promise there have also been a lot of breakthroughs and I'm working very hard to improve so I hope you will all continue to support me!

Unfortunately the game will be a bit late and will not be complete on time, though the song will at least be released for now. This song was pretty fun and different for me, so hope you like it!

Aside note: I find it hilarious I sing in Japanese so often I have a slight Japanese accent in parts of this song. I also apologize for some of the notes being a bit off! I'm so tired this month from school that singing has been a bit of a challenge haha, but at least I have a new upload! pickle131vaa 2015-03-21 | This show is seriously the cutest, and so hilarious! I'm sure I'm not the only one here hoping for season 2 haha. I actually wasn't a fan of the ending song, but a few friends asked me to sing it and eventually I learned to like it enough. Now I think it's pretty cute, so I finally decided to record this! (Actually it has been done for a while, I just haven't had time to mix it until now.) I apologize for the rough mixing, still learning how to use Reaper!

PLEASE NOTE: I am aware the pitch sounds significantly less perfect than the original; the original was heavily autotuned and I'm personally against using pitch correction so I would rather it be slightly off like this. I hope that you like it despite the imperfections!
