A visit with Adirondack French Louie in the West Canada Lakes Wilderness! NatureIntoAction 2022-09-19 | We traveled into the heart of the West Canada Lakes Wilderness to visit the home of the lovable Adirondack Hermit French Louis Seymour. He lived a charismatic life as a hunter, trapper, fisherman and guide until his death in 1915. He was known for visiting town twice a year to sell his furs and drown his thirst. He would hoot and holler and all the locals would know he was in town. Brookie Brothers: Adirondack Spring Trout Canoe Camp in the Snow NatureIntoAction 2021-05-27 | Adirondack Brook Trout Canoe trip that started out with snow on the ground. Our plan was to chase ice out brookies before the blackflies hatched. The wind was difficult and the trout were focused in on a Midge (Chironomidae) pupae but we managed to catch and release our share of fat brookies by trolling and casting. Kept just 1 since the bacon sizzled and cried for it..and it got gut hooked accidently. Day two Al and Jason doubled up on 16"+ brookies out of their canoe. Outstanding, especially for a small pond. The wind slowed and the sun shined on us that day so we explored a few areas of the backcountry. I was paddling a Hornbeck Classic and Alex was in his Swift. All light weight gear allowing for efficient wilderness travel.The last day was slightly rainy and overcast and so we had high hopes that the fish would be biting and they did! My trolling wooly bugger struck a pocket of Landlocked Salmon and I caught my limit of three 20" fish in ten minutes. I decided to keep two for the smoker. Their bellies were swollen with the same midge pupae as the brook trout which surprised me because they are known to target rainbow smelt and other smaller fish. Tenkara Fly Fishing for Wild Trout in New Jersey NatureIntoAction 2016-10-17 | Tenkara is an ancient Japanese fly fishing technique that allows drag free drift and access to wild trout in tight streams and small fishing holes. The setup allows for a roll cast when there is no room behind you and the line can be mended immediately to present a fly naturally. The rod tip is held high to hold tension when a barbless hook is set or barbs are pinched. Trout are sensitive especially in warmer water after a fight.
