This road is extremely uneven and winds all over the place so despite some image stabilisation in the camera the footage is still very bumpy so apologies for that. Between the surface and the local sheep you'll need to keep your speed to 50-60mph on this road so be careful when driving it.

The footage is historic in that the east side of the island as viewed in the video has been totally redeveloped since this video was taken. The documentary also shows open boats which have now been replaced with more modern cabin boats that protect pilgrims from the elements during their crossing.
Despite the modern development on the island the core of the pilgrimage (the fasting, the bare feet, the prayers, the all night vigil and the penitential beds) is unchanged to this day.Croagh Patrick Pilgrimage - Taken from the BBCs Titchmarshs TravelsEUVIGA2018-12-26 | Taken from the third of six programmes in which Alan Titchmarsh follows in pilgrims' footsteps around Britain and Ireland.
