Takahashi Darumas are the only certified Darumas in Iwaki so be careful!Notes about the Shiramizu Amidado being the national treasure:As mentioned, yes, Shiramizu Amidado is the only national treasure in Fukushima, as a structure. Currently there are 2 more national treasures which are a small Buddha doll and a scripture which are not regular shown to the public. If you want to see an actual National Treasure with your own eyes, the Amida-do in Iwaki is probably the best choiceAccess to Iwaki:2.5 hours by car, or you can take the Super Hitachi Express train running from Ueno Station in Tokyo. A sort of surreal floating alien was best as I could understand this first work②2:09-2:20 These piles of hay had a nostalgic feeling for me as I grew up on a property with a barn and I used to play in the bails of hay there. I thought of these as something like the creatures we would encounter homes③2:39 These appeared at a glance like horses. Interestingly they were attached by a cord of wood shavings. I thought of these two as a master and his transport. I've no idea if this is true and if they are meant to be the same creature.④3:38 I affectionately thought of this as an alter. Whatever world these creatures inhabit I thought of this as the place they came to pray to whatever they believed in. The mind trail is a one month event consisting of three separate trails featuring art installations located in 3 different areas of Nara prefecture. When people are so tired of being stuck inside, the mind trail invites you outdoors into one of the most beautiful prefectures that can be found in Japan. For this journey we visit the Soni location. The art you find in the forest is certainly surreal. I think it would be tough to say that the feeling it gives is only one of positivity. More, you feel a sense of awe or otherworldliness. The first piece of art seems almost like a jellyfish or some kind of floating alien. The second is more like a horse, or possibly a Chocobo. Finally if you complete the trail, there is the altar. His interest in the practice grew so much that by 1337 he converted his villa into the zen temple that you find there today. Sweeping roofs, peaceful pathways and scattered gardens characterize the area and a walk through the many meandering paths of the temple will no doubt leave any visitor in a more pleasant state of mind than when they first arrived. It was such a pleasure to film as there was nearly no one there that day. We were surrounded by the sweet smells of the gardens, the echoes of are feet on the stones, a gentle breeze, and little else. We just so happened to arrive during what could only be called Japan's second rainy season. You might think that that would ruin the trip, but it had quite the opposite effect. It became all the more special for it. When so much of what makes Arima Onsen beautiful is how green it is coupled with its central river and vertical cliffs spotted with buildings grown over with vines, it's the perfect environment for a heavy rain. Once everything was wet all the green became an even richer saturation creating contrast with everything around it. The verticality that all the hotels and homes had looked especially epic as you were forced to crane your neck and look upwards to appreciate them as the rain poured down. Ever more perfect was to arrive to Kobe after our filming and have the clouds finally clear so that we were able to enjoy an electric bike ride along the harbour. Made all the clearer for the rain having swept away any particulate that may have been in the air before. Japans 100year old culture still alive in a small hot spring town: Ikaho Onsen WAO RYU!ONLY in JAPAN 2021-08-28 | Taisho Era is Japan's Romantic period between 1912-1926. During this time, Japan's culture thrived with so many novelists, artists, and architecture was born. It is still considered one of the most artistic era in Japan. We can hardly see any trace of that time, but we have found some trace of it in one of the most unexpected place: Ikaho Onsen.Being one of the oldest but famous hot spring town in the mountains of Gunma, we have found quite some trace of this 100 year old culture and building remaining! Since most of the Taisho era buildings in Tokyo and other places destroyed by war, it was quite a surprise for us to find some of them remaining in such a small town.Here we were able to find many people talking about Ikaho, and the beauty of this city while most of them do not really know so much about the Taisho era buildings!It is a great place for a 1 or 2 day trip out of Tokyo in an Onsen Town mainly for the locals, but not so much famous for its history. Started around 300 years ago, the basic method has not changed since its birth. Now with so much industrial color dyeing being the norm, dyeing using natural method is in a way quite luxurious while a high cost dyed clothing may cost up to a few thousand dollars. We have found a place in outskirts of Tokyo in the city of Kawasaki where you can bring your own garment or even a cloth to be dyed in the ancient method. Here you can dye your favorite T-shirts into a much fabulous looking Japanese Indigo version! This time Ellie visits the Dento-Kogeikan where the two masters of dyeing helps her out on creating a one in a world T-shirts and Hachimaki (and a mask). For this video we travel deep into the countryside of Nara Japan in search of the most delicious pizza you could possibly imagine. We found it. Yamaoka pizza is a place of divine pizza pilgrimage. A taste bud mecca if you will. Inaccessible by anything other than a car and perched on the side of Ikoma mountain you may never know it was there unless a friend informed you of its existence. I was lucky enough to meet such a man who pointed me in its direction. After sampling not only their savory pizza but their sweet as well I think it is safe to say my mind is blown and changed forever. All other pizza will taste like dust when compared with the insanely delicious exclusive pizza of Yamaoka. Oh, one final detail! Do not just go, they require that you make a reservation beforehand. Bahram is an Iranian man who along with his Japanese wife Shinobu, has been developing this farm for the past 18 years. Pretty impressive right? He’s specifically done this through weekend events wherein participants can come and experience what traditional communal Japanese rice-farming was like.
