AM2R in 7:44 satvara 2021-09-12 | The goal of the any% skips speedrun is to complete AM2R without restriction, which means glitches and hardcore sequence breaking will be used.AM2R is "completed" once Samus enters the gunship at the end of the game, leaves SR388, and the credits roll. The end game state is triggered when Samus reaches the metroid larva after the final boss, which then triggers the gunship's ability to leave the planet. Since reaching the end game state before defeating all metroids is normally impossible, the run consequently relies on the most potent sequence breaking glitch currently known in the game: an arduous, unforgiving, and punishing consecutive pause glitch called Blink. Successfully performing the glitch will enable Samus to bypass room transition triggers, enabling traversal outside the conventional boundaries of the level. Therefore, the goal is to reach the metroid larva as quickly as possible. This particular run functions as an update to the 8:18 run I completed in 2017 a few months after the game was first released. It is essentially a better refined version that utilizes the increased skillset I acquired during the process of running 100% Skips. I must say that I don't feel I have given this category the time and attention it deserves yet, so another PB or a more focused return may be in order at some point. Still, my initial goal was sub 7:45 so I am satisfied having met that.Thanks to Naatiska (discovering the pause glitch in 2016) and DruidVorse (discovering the zip glitch). AM2R 100% Skips in 48:03 satvara 2020-11-21 | The goal of this speedrun is to obtain 100% item collection quickly without restriction, which essentially means hardcore sequence breaking will be used. Therefore, the run relies extensively on the most potent sequence breaking glitch known in the game: an arduous, unforgiving, and punishing consecutive pause glitch called Blink. It enables the possibility of skipping of every metroid, boss, lava barrier, and even item in the game, creating an entirely separate and unique metagame. Blink comes with a cost, however, as its effectiveness is equally matched by its difficulty. My initial goal for this category was just to complete it under 50 minutes without killing any metroids, so I am satisfied with 48 minutes. It's also my first serious 100% speedrun attempt of any game ever! It's done by jumping and then morphing just before entering the cutscene trigger zone.The cutscene is programmed to cancel any action Samus is performing when she triggers it. The issue is that unmorphing is impossible near a ceiling so the programming logic breaks down and the game universe implodes as a result.

Metroid: Samus Returns, Area 6 OoB Shortcuts v2 (Ice Beam) satvara 2018-03-08 | I wanted to give a quick look over the Ice Beam clips in Area 6 again since it's been awhile, so here are some more Ice Beam OoB locations that I haven't seen yet.1) Cutting to the Zeta at the start of the area using a glowfly clip. This is a variant of one I've showed already.2) After the Omega, cutting down using a hornoad clip. The fall clip isn't really reliable for me so far.3) After the Omega, cutting down using a glowfly clip. I prefer this glowfly over the one in the pit that I showed in v1. I stayed OoB longer traveling to the seal for the sake of comparison. This same cut can be used after the Zeta, too.4) Taking a small cut down using a glowfly clip after the last Chozo Seal.
