This guy is VERY infamous for his difficulty. Sometimes even more than the final boss. I played the game a lot so I developed strategies but on anything higher than Normal... You are dead over and over again.
Still, first time going through the game, I got stuck for DAYS!
The pattern looks simple enough. Vagullion teleports in and then changes into bats that chase you. Problem is that you have like a SPLIT SECOND to hit him before he changes into bats. And those bats do continuous damage. Even worse when your path is bad OR the bats simply decide to disperse more. It is random and it is HARD.
Apparently, trying to group the bats together makes him materialize more often but I am not sure of that... On Nightmare, the bats move very fast as well :/
