In June 2021, Kenya committed to end gender-based violence by 2026 through 12 bold commitments. But while these commitments are welcome, justice will remain elusive for many women and girls in Kenya if they are not realized.
Over 40% of women in Kenya are likely to face physical and or sexual violence in their lifetime and more than 1 in 5 girls face child marriage or Female Genital Mutilation.
So together with Capital FM Kenya, we spoke to a few Kenyans about their experiences with sexual and gender-based violence; what ought to be done and this is what they had to say.
