2022 Mercedes EQS - interior Exterior and Driving (Best Luxury Electric Car)
updated
Starting at $60.000 est
Highs: Sweetly smooth ride, a cocoon of luxury, beats the S-class in trunk space.
Lows: Loads of rear-passenger space, has gained 170 pounds, we're still waiting on the wagon.
Verdict: The new E-class blurs the line between mid-size and S-size, but its evolution has been carefully deployed.
Overview
The E-class sedan is executive transport with a distinctly Mercedes-Benz attitude, offering nearly as much class and substance as the S-class flagship with a slightly less imposing profile. Entry-level E350 models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain with 255 horsepower while E450s turn up the heat to 375 horsepower courtesy of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. All-wheel drive is standard, and all models come luxuriously equipped and include a generous list of driver-assistance and infotainment features. Other European rivals like the Audi A6 and the BMW 5-series offer similar space and equipment but neither brand has quite the prestige that comes with a Mercedes-Benz badge.
What's New for 2024?
This year marks the start of an all-new generation of the E-class sedan, which has been redesigned from the ground up with more technology and luxury than the outgoing model. The four- and six-cylinder powertrains have received hybrid assistance this year resulting in power boosts, and the exterior styling wears a handsome new look. Inside, a host of new technology features pepper the cabin. We expect to see the 2024 E-class in dealer showrooms by the end of 2023.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
E350 Premium: $60,000 (est)
E350 Exclusive: $63,000 (est)
E450 Premium: $67,000 (est)
E350 Pinnacle: $69,000 (est)
E450 Exclusive: $71,000 (est)
E450 Pinnacle: $74,000 (est)
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Unsurprisingly, the E-class's cabin is focused on comfort and quality. Passenger space appears generous in photos and the interior is lined with rich-looking materials such as leather upholstery and metal trim. Overall, the design is high-end and nicely complements the car's handsome exterior styling. Although the E-class has been offered as a coupe and a convertible in the past, we're expecting this generation to stick strictly to a four-door layout.

2024 Rolls-Royce Ghost
Starting at $400.000 est
Highs: Floats over road imperfections, seemingly endless power reserves, simultaneously conspicuous and tasteful.
Lows: Brake pedal lacks feel, roof pillars block the view, extraordinary price tag.
Verdict: It may cost twice as much as its key rivals, but the Ghost's opulence is unmatched, and for some that'll mean it's money well spent.
Overview
It may be slightly cheaper than the Phantom, but there's nothing cheap about the 2024 Rolls-Royce Ghost. From tip to tail, this luxury limo exudes glamour and sophistication. A V-12 engine provides effortless acceleration, but while it's capable of hitting 60 mph in a brisk 4.6 seconds and offers a surprising level of athleticism for its size, the Ghost is better used for gently ferrying its power-player passengers to and from board meetings and exclusive social functions. A camera scans the road ahead to help prepare the suspension for potholes and speed bumps to keep the ride as velvety as possible. That gives passengers the ability to sip champagne and snack on caviar without spilling anything onto the Ghost's buttery-soft leather or high-pile lambswool floormats. Ready to live your Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous fantasy? With a small investment of around $400,000, the Ghost can take up residence in your driveway, but remember—the chauffeur is sold separately.
What's New for 2024?
Rolls-Royce has been focusing on its first electric vehicle, the Spectre, so the Ghost carries over to 2024 without any significant changes to its design, features list, or powertrain.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Ghost: $400,000 (est)
Ghost Black Badge: $450,000 (est)
The Ghost is the entry-level Rolls, but what an entry. The list of standard and optional equipment is mesmerizing and long, and Rolls-Royce offers a seemingly endless list of additional features and customizations. The only question is how much you're willing to spend.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Like the cabin of any Rolls-Royce, the new Ghost’s is opulent, with every surface, knob, switch, and lever crafted from quality materials. Think thick carpet, finely grained leather, real wood and metal accents, and even an available headliner with tiny integrated LEDs to simulate a starlit sky. An illuminated dashboard inlay glows when the driver turns on the Ghost, adding to the starry-night ambiance. Rear-seat passengers are treated to such luxuries as massaging seats, an entertainment system, and acres of legroom. It's nothing less than expected for a car in the same class as the Bentley Flying Spur and the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-class.

2024 BMW X6
Starting at $74.895
Highs: Smooth ride with sporty handling, impressive performance, attractive cabin.
Lows: Sleeker roofline costs cargo space, overwhelming settings in infotainment menu, M60i is a significant leap in price.
Verdict: The X6 spoils its passengers with a refined ride, strong engines, and a cozy interior, but its sloped roof compromises its SUV practicality.
Overview
The X6 is here to finish what it started. The original X6 pioneered a new styling direction for SUVS: the dramatically sloped roof, which cuts down on some cargo space for the sake of coolness. Think of it as an X5 SUV that goes to the gym. Its athletic antics transcend its looks, too. The base engine is a peppy 375 horsepower turbocharged inline-six engine that gives the X6 plenty of scoot. The M60i runs hotter, using a 523-horsepower twin-turbo V-8 that's built for pounding pavement at high speeds. Both powertrains are locked to an eight-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive. The 617-hp X6 M delivers a far more aggressive experience but is reviewed separately. But don't let its focus on driving entertainment skew what's really at work in the X6. It spoils its passengers with a pleasantly elegant interior complete with an enormous infotainment screen that works a high-tech command center. The X6 has inspired other SUVs, such as the Porsche Cayenne Coupe and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Coupe, to lower their rooflines. Which only confirms that it was the X6 that started the move to sleeker SUVs.
What's New for 2024?
BMW gives the X6 a makeover for 2024, with a revised front grille and bumper, new headlamps and taillamps, updated wheel designs, and a boost in power for the base engine thanks to a new 48-volt hybrid system. Output for the X6's turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine is up to 375 horsepower, but the power of the 523-hp 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 remains the same for this year.
The performance-minded M60i, renamed from last year's M50i, carries the angrier engine and gets gloss-black exterior accents, quad tailpipes, and an M logo for the grille. The X6 is also now available with the Highway Assistant hands-free driving feature that we first experienced in the new 7-series flagship luxury sedan.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
40i: $74,895
M60i: $94,595
Despite the burlier sounds and gutsier acceleration that the 523-hp X6 M60i provides, we don't think it's worth the staggering price gap. Instead, we'd stick with the six-cylinder X6 40i. We'd spring for the M Sport package that includes a snazzier body kit and exterior trim, an upgraded exhaust system, a sportified suspension, and a unique steering wheel.

2023 Tesla Model X
Starting at $81.630
Highs: Long-range battery, brutally quick and insanely quick powertrains, recharges quickly on road trips.
Lows: Too spartan inside for the price, below-average build quality, steering yoke controller is a pain.
Verdict: For these prices, you should get a lap-of-luxury interior along with the stellar performance but the Model X offers only mediocre appointments and a side helping of Tesla-style gimmicks.
Overview
The 2023 Model X offers the performance and cachet that comes with the Tesla brand name but its gimmicks aren’t as compelling these days. The luxury electric crossover segment has expanded and now includes better options. Three X models are offered, starting with the dual-motor Standard Range SUV, which makes 670 horsepower and offers a 269-mile EPA-rated driving range; the more expensive Long Range model comes with a 348-mile driving range estimate. The performance-oriented Plaid model costs a lot more but makes an astounding 1020 horsepower and still can go up to 333 miles between charges. We’re impressed by its brutal acceleration and great driving range. Beyond that, though, we question the value of the Model X when you consider its cabin doesn’t provide the high-end luxury ambiance one expects with a six-figure price tag. New EV SUV entrants such as the BMW iX and the Rivian R1S are cheaper, fancier, and nearly as quick.
What's New for 2023?
The Model X gets a new key card for 2023, but if you want the older style car-shaped fob, you can add it as an option. A regular steering wheel also returns as a no-cost option (a $700 retrofit is also available for current owners). Tesla has also reintroduced a Standard Range model with a cheaper starting price and a 269-mile driving range. Otherwise, the Model X carries over to the new year with no changes.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Long Range: $81,630
Standard Range: $90,130
Model X Plaid: $110,130
The Plaid model with its three electric motors is sure to deliver insane acceleration but its speed is mighty expensive. And its 333-mile estimated driving range isn't as good as the less expensive Long Range model, so we'd save the cash. The Long Range Model X offers up to 348 miles of estimated driving range and is still mighty quick.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The base Model X comes standard with two electric motors—one at the front axle and one at the rear—which enable all-wheel drive. This setup is plenty swift: Tesla claims a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.4 seconds but we beat that in our testing with a 3.3-second run. The 1020-hp three-motor Plaid high-performance variant boasts a claimed zero-to-60-mph time of 2.5 seconds, but we haven't verified its acceleration times at our test track yet. When we tested the Model S Plaid—the Model X's sedan platform-mate—it managed a viscera-compressing 2.1-second zero-to-60-mph time. The X’s handling is respectable, but its party trick is the strong acceleration generated by its electric motors.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
A stark and nearly buttonless interior design is classic Tesla. The driver faces a digital gauge display and a unique yoke-style steering controller, which is often frustrating to use and difficult if not impossible to get used to. At least a regular steering wheel is available as a no-cost option. Also unique is the Model X's windshield/glass roof that runs seamlessly from the base of the hood and up and over the front-seat passengers for a nearly uninterrupted view of what's ahead and what's above. Despite these whiz-bang features, the Model X's cabin leaves us wanting, especially considering its price can easily break the six-figure barrier, with non-descript air vents, misaligned panels, and flat-backed seats that don't offer enough adjustments.

2024 Mercedes-AMG S63
Starting at $190.000 est
Highs: Lightning-quick acceleration, opulent interior finishings, handles like a much smaller sedan.
Lows: Short electric-only range, regenerative braking system lacks true one-pedal drive mode, eye-popping price tag.
Verdict: With sports car performance and luxury car comfort, the S63 represents the peak of AMG engineering.
Overview
It missed a year of production, but the AMG S63 supersedan is back in a major way. Making use of the Mercedes-Benz S-class’s seventh-generation architecture, the S63 brings the glitz with more go than ever thanks to a new plug-in hybrid powertrain. Mercedes has dropped the previously offered coupe and convertible body styles and will offer the S63 as a sedan only, at least for now. Under the bonnet sits a familiar twin-turbo V-8 that, with the help of AMG’s rear electric motor, now produces a combined 791 horsepower and an astounding 1055 pound-feet of torque for its all-wheel drive system to try to put to the road. To ensure the S63 can get to speeds high enough to escape rising interest rates, AMG will allow its big-battery luxury sedan to reach speeds up to 180 mph. As a chariot for the wealthy with maximum performance in mind, the new AMG S63 is a quick and comfy way to usher in the industry’s electrified future.
What's New for 2024?
After a short hiatus, the AMG-badged S-class makes its grand re-entry to the prestige-on-wheels class using the bones from the current production Benz S-class mated with a promising high-power hybrid powertrain.

2024 BMW XM
Starting at $159.995
Highs: Luxe interior, powerful plug-in-hybrid powertrain, enough electric driving range to run in-town errands.
Lows: Has a face only a mother could love, busy ride, not as quick as other high-dollar performance SUVs.
Verdict: The XM is nearly as quick as an M3 sports sedan but offers similar luxury as the 7-series, and that combination is what makes this SUV unique.
Overview
The 2024 BMW XM SUV is on an ambitious mission to target the pinnacles of performance and luxury simultaneously. Behind its overwrought snout lies a twin-turbocharged V-8 that's enhanced by a plug-in hybrid system, which combine to produce up to 738 horsepower. The result is a rocket, capable of hitting 60 mph in as little as 3.7 seconds. It can also motor itself around on electric power alone if you only need to run a few errands. And you might just choose the XM for such tasks since its cabin is richly trimmed, comfortable, and spacious. BMW has added all of its most desirable tech features too, including a curved dashboard display and the latest driver-assistance systems. While it's quick in a straight line, the XM isn't as joyful to drive as the company's vaunted M3 and M5 sports sedans. But if corner-carving isn't on your driving menu, the XM's got panache and power out the wazoo and we'll be damned if we can find fault with that.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Everything about the XM's cabin is high-end, including its optional vintage-look leather upholstery that was first shown on the concept car. The XM's cabin is strictly a two-row affair, and in place of a large panoramic sunroof, the XM can be had with a geometric-patterned faux-suede headliner that features fiber-optic lighting that's used to dramatic effect. An optional audio upgrade adds a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with tweeters that illuminate.

2023 Audi RS6 Avant
Starting at $122.995
Overview
In a sea of performance SUVs like the BMW X5 M, the Audi RS6’s rakish profile, hunkered-down stance, and supercar driving character are rare and special. Powered by a 591-horsepower twin-turbocharged V-8, this station wagon is a performance beast, shooting to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds and capable of a 190 mph top speed. That’ll make Costco runs a lot more interesting. At the same time, the long-roof body style can comfortably seat five while carrying nearly as much cargo as chunkier, less athletic SUVs. And though the RS6 leans heavily towards sporty driving, the interior features a classy design, sumptuous materials, and all of the latest technology. Along with the high-riding performance SUVs, the RS6 Avant does battle with other pricey performance wagons like the Porsche Panamera Turbo S Sport Turismo. If you dig the RS6 Avant’s performance credentials but want a sleeker, less family-oriented look, Audi also offers the mechanically identical RS7 hatchback.
What's New for 2023?
There is only one update to the RS6 Avant for the 2023 model year: an available black suede headliner made from recycled materials. Otherwise, the high-performance wagon carries over unchanged from last year, and the price also remains the same.

2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo First Drive: Touch the Sky and Come Alive
Maserati drops the top on its mid-engine supercar to create an exotic convertible you can drive every day.
"Cielo." It means "sky" in Italian. Such is the lyrical beauty of the Italian language, Maserati didn't need to think beyond the prosaic to come up with a great-sounding name for the convertible version of its mid-engine supercar: the 2023 MC20 Cielo. It's worked before: This is, remember, the company that calls its four-door sedan, simply, the Quattroporte. Plain old English "Four Door" somehow doesn't conjure the same romantic elegance.
Not that the MC20 needs any more romance. In coupé form, Maserati's first mid-engine supercar in decades is a beguiling machine, a confident and capable car powered by one of the most charismatic high-performance V-6 engines of the modern era—an engine designed and engineered in-house at Maserati. It's not quite a Ferrari 296GTB and not quite a Lamborghini Huracán, but something all its own: a sports car with a soupçon of grand turismo evident in the mix that makes it as easy and comfortable to drive every day as a C8 Corvette.
The Good Bits Haven't Changed
The stuff we like about the MC20 is all there in the 2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo. The output of the twin-turbo dry-sump Nettuno V-6—Nettuno is Italian for Neptune, the ancient Roman god of the sea whose trident inspired the Maserati logo—remains unchanged at 621 hp at 7,500 rpm and 538 lb-ft of torque from 3,000 to 5,500 rpm. It drives the rear wheels through the same slick eight-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission.
Performance is unchanged, too. The small carmaker claims the 2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in about 2.7 seconds, just like the coupe. Claimed top speed is similarly just more than 200 mph.
As with the coupe, one of the keys to the MC20 Cielo's performance is its relatively low overall mass. The MC20 coupe's central carbon-fiber monocoque is made up of 57 molded pieces. Aluminum structures bolted to the front and rear of the monocoque anchor the front suspension and steering bits, as well as the rear suspension and V-6 engine and transmission assembly.
Cleverly, the monocoque was designed from the outset to facilitate a convertible version with only minor changes. As a result, the MC20 Cielo weighs only 143 pounds more than the MC20 coupe; the weight increase is pretty much all down to the glass roof and the mechanisms that stow it within/retrieve it from a compartment above the engine, in just 12 seconds.
The 2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo also shares its compact multilink suspension and giant Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes with the coupe, but it boasts several detail changes to the chassis setup. Rear suspension stiffness, for example, increased slightly to allow for the extra mass of the retractable roof to rest on the rear axle, and the e-differential is recalibrated to be less reactive, easing the load on the steering.
The default GT drive mode is also recalibrated to give a slightly softer, smoother ride at cruising speeds, but this is not—as in the case of many coupe-based convertibles—to compensate for the loss of rigidity that comes with removing the roof, says Maserati vehicle line executive Federico Landini: "We wanted the car to have a slightly different character."
It's Not the Soft Option
That's not to say the 2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo is the soft option, a cruisy-schmoozy take on Maserati's mid-engine supercar. Far from it. Yes, the low-speed ride in GT mode is impressively compliant, but it's surprisingly syrupy in the coupe, too. And when you twist the glass-topped rotary controller on the center console into Sport or Corsa mode, the MC20 Cielo tells you it's ready to play, the suspension stiffening its sinews and the Nettuno V-6 clearing its throat.
Nail the gas, and the MC20 Cielo slingshots down the road. The Nettuno is an engine of truly impressive range, crisp and responsive at low to middling revs yet searingly relentless in its power delivery from 6,000 rpm all the way to the 8,000-rpm redline, its baritone rumble morphing into an edgy snarl. It doesn't feel or sound like a turbocharged engine.

2023 Mercedes-AMG G63
Starting at $180.150
Highs: A box-shaped rocket ship, boosted performance doesn't compromise off-road prowess, a millionaire's Jeep.
Lows: Boxy shape makes it overly noisy on the highway, cornering is not a strong suit, high cost makes scratching it more concerning.
Verdict: The high-powered G63 is a hugely capable luxury off-roader with compromises that contribute to its character.
Overview
This AMG-badged G63 breathes fire in the face of the tamer Mercedes-Benz G-class, which we review separately. A 577-hp twin-turbocharged V-8 gives this Hollywood cowboy quicker acceleration than a Ford Bronco Raptor. Still, its hefty price tag separates the CEOs from the average Joes. A luxury room on 20-inch wheels, the G63's high-quality cabin materials and techno-fabulous cockpit offer the best of Mercedes's already impressive swath of modern amenities. An even wilder 4x4² model features a long-travel suspension, heavy-duty portal axles, and more than 13 inches of ground clearance.
What's New for 2023?
Mercedes doesn't change the formula by much for the 2023 G63. A new G manufaktur Logo package is now available as well as two new exclusive paint colors for the G63 4x4 Squared: Copper Orange Magno and Brilliant Blue Magno. The G63 4x4² can also be optioned with a Cherry Wood floor luggage compartment, which is something new for 2023.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
G63: $180,150
G63 4x4-2: $350,150
Although the G63 starts at around $180,000, most go for considerably higher than that due to their myriad customization options. The standard equipment list is quite livable, however, since every Mercedes-AMG G63 comes with 20-inch wheels, adaptive dampers, a front brush guard, leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, and three-zone climate control. We would option our G63 with the Seat Comfort package (to get the multi-contour seats with ventilation and massage) and the AMG Trail package to unlock the proper tires for off-roading.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Although the excessively rectilinear cabin will feel familiar if you've ever set foot in an older G-class, this is now a thoroughly modern place, with a 12.0-inch digital instrument panel, high-quality materials, and conveniences such as cupholders and a surround-view camera system. Taller drivers and passengers will find plenty of head- and legroom in both the front and rear. Around the back of the G-class, there's still no power liftgate, and you'll need to be in good shape to open the side-hinged gate, which has a full-size spare tire mounted on it. With the rear seats up, you'll have 38 cubic feet of cargo space. Folding them down (60/40 split) provides nearly 69 cubic feet.

2024 Porsche Cayenne First Drive: The Excellent One-Car Solution
No surprise, Porsche continues to find ways to improve its already great Cayenne SUV.
Maybe it's the parking situation, maybe it's finances, or maybe you're just practical. Whatever the reason, plenty of folks are looking for one car that can do everything, and it's hard to find a better one-car solution than the 2024 Porsche Cayenne.
Of course, we already knew the refreshed Cayenne was going to be good. We drove a late-stage prototype nine months ago that may as well have been the finished product but for the light camouflage livery it carried. Indeed, little has changed since then.
Play It Again, Stephan
Everything we experienced behind the wheel of the production version of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne SUV validated our initial impressions of the prototypes. Porsche engineers refined the Cayenne's purpose and personality to a singular essence that permeates every trim level and powertrain. Every version of this extensively refreshed model drives the same, even with some getting more power and others getting better fuel economy. But they are otherwise identical in character.
Provided to us for this review were two of the most interesting powertrains available at launch, the revamped Cayenne E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid (PHEV) V-6 and the once again V-8-powered Cayenne S (now with twin turbos). Both were equipped with optional air springs and rear-wheel steering along with the standard electronically adjustable shock absorbers. Somewhat unusually, these two 2024 Porsche Cayenne models make about the same power—463 hp for the PHEV and 468 hp for the V-8-and illustrate exactly what we're talking about.
Forget about differences in curb weights and what's under the hood. What we wrote five months ago about those prototypes is just as true today. "It's in the movements," we said, "in the way these 2024 Porsche Cayennes react when you first turn into a corner and the way the weight transfers and the body rolls. It's all very deliberately and highly controlled, like a dancer—the manner in which the weight settles on the outside wheels and the suspension crouches, takes a set, and eventually releases as you exit the turn. Each Cayenne does it the same way, so much so that the driver of a base model can easily keep up with the driver of a Turbo GT who isn't using enough throttle."
The only real difference we detected between the prototypes and the finished Cayennes was in the rear-steering tuning. Back in January, we wrote the system was practically invisible but it's a bit more noticeable now in the tightest corners when you're really pushing the car hard. There's a slight sensation of the rear end moving in an abnormal way, almost like a hint of oversteer when you fling the Cayenne into a corner like it's a tall 911. It never actually gets loose (at either end), but it certainly makes the car feel livelier than you'd expect of an SUV.
Which To Get
All this is a gift to the conflicted 2024 Porsche Cayenne buyer, because it gives them license to buy whatever model best suits their wants and needs. Want to save money up front, spend less time at gas stations, and reduce your carbon footprint? Get the hybrid. Gotta have that V-8 rumble? Get the S, or the Turbo GT if you really need an SUV that doubles as a track car.
That burble from the quad tailpipes and maybe just a bit of nostalgia for the days when V-8s were synonymous with absolute performance are the best reasons to buy the new S. Porsche binned the old high-output turbo V-6 used in the old Cayenne S because it was already at its power limit (the base Cayenne still receives the standard-output version of that engine). Between tightening global-emissions regulations and the general industry shift to electric cars, almost no automakers are introducing new V-8s these days, so get this one while the getting's good.

Overview
The Range Rover has been the SUV of choice for celebrities and wealthy elites for decades, but even though it pampers its passengers like a luxury car it still offers off-road capability that means it can venture well off the red carpet. All models come with all-wheel drive, an adjustable air suspension, and plenty of ground clearance. You can choose between inline-six, plug-in-hybrid, and V-8 powertrains. You can also deck the Range Rover out with all manner of luxury features, including massaging seats in both rows, rear bucket seats, power-deployable rear-seat tray tables, and a beverage chiller. No matter which version you choose you'll pay a six-figure price, which means the Range Rover automatically costs more than entry-level versions of rivals such as the Cadillac Escalade, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-class. But it's exactly all of this obvious extravagance that attracts the Range Rover's image-obsessed buyers, and after sampling several variants of this latest generation of the luxury SUV, we can see why.
What's New for 2024?
It's still early in the Range Rover's fifth generation, but already Land Rover has tweaked the powertrain lineup for 2024. The plug-in-hybrid P440e has been replaced with a more powerful P550e which makes 542 horsepower. P400 and P530 models see no changes to their horsepower ratings, but the top-spec SV model is now powered by a 606-hp V-8 engine that wears the P615 moniker. Elsewhere, Land Rover has introduced a new customization service called SV Bespoke which provides buyers more opportunities for personalization when building their dream Range Rover. To help draw attention to its SV Bespoke program, Land Rover revealed an ultra-exclusive Carmel Edition model during the 2023 Monterey Car Week event in California. The $371,475 special edition features Cream Ash Burr and white ceramic interior trim, pearl oyster accents, two-tone leather upholstery, specially-embroidered cushions, and unique 23-inch wheels with white inserts. The result is fairly spectacular; only seven will be built.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Range Rover is available with a quartet of powertrains, starting with a turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt hybrid system dubbed P400 that develops 395 horsepower. During our initial test drive, it proved to be silky-smooth and provided adequate pep to tug the large Range Rover around. A 523-hp twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine—Land Rover calls it P530—is even perkier and cranks up the Range Rover's towing capacity to 8200 pounds. At our test track, the P530 hustled the Range Rover to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds; the P400 did it in 5.5 seconds. A 542-hp plug-in hybrid option—called P550e—is also available but only on the short wheelbase Autobiography trim, and the range-topping SV comes with a 606-hp V-8 called P615. Our long-wheelbase P400 test vehicle managed to hit 60 mph in a fairly brisk 5.5 seconds while the short-wheelbase P530 we tested did it in just 4.3 seconds....
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
As with past generations of the Range Rover, this new generation model offers a plush interior decked out with rich leathers and woods, but buyers who want a more sustainable cabin can now opt for a new leather-free option, which subs-in wool or other textiles. The interior can be arranged to seat four, five, or seven depending on configuration and wheelbase. The third row, even in long-wheelbase trims, may not fit tall adults as the headroom there is somewhat limited, but shorter riders and kids will find it nearly as comfortable as the second row. An optional motorized divider for the cargo area helps keep things from moving around too much during travel, and the Range Rover's split rear liftgate can be used as convenient and comfortable secaranddriver.com/land-rover/range-roverating for outdoor events.

2024 Hyundai Kona Grows Up but Stays Spunky
The Kona has grown in both size and price without losing sight of its ideals.
The recipe for a commuter car is simple. Take one part efficiency, mix in one part practicality, add two parts affordability, and garnish with a bit of style. Since its inception, the Hyundai Kona has stuck to that basic formula, even going so far as to inject some driving verve with the hopped-up N variant.
For 2024, Hyundai redesigned the little runabout, adding about six inches to the body and nearly $2000 to the starting price. But at $25,435, the Kona is still one of the most approachable cars on the market, and it hasn't lost the sense of what made it great in the first place, even if its new dimensions eat into acceleration and fuel economy.
A Fresh New Look
Up front, the 2024 Kona maintains the same basic shape but adopts a simplified and more modern look. A razor-thin running light spans the width of the car. The old grille is gone, and its replacement features active shutters to help with airflow. Changes to the back mirror those at the front, with a sleek red running light stretching from corner to corner. If those touches aren't enough, the N Line model ramps it up with body-colored cladding and an eye-catching rear spoiler, as well as N Line–specific bumpers and wheels.
Hyundai pulled out all the stops to make the cabin a nicer place to spend weekday mornings and evenings. Customers who experience actual weather will appreciate the optional heated and ventilated seats and the available heated steering wheel. The old model's gauge-cluster and infotainment screens are out, replaced with Hyundai's more modern pair of 12.3-inch displays combined inside a single-piece bezel. There are a handful of useful USB-C connections for front and rear passengers for easy charging.
The shifter has migrated from the center console to the column, opening storage space between the front seats. The result is an unconventional yet practical center console, great for handbags or other large items. Strangely, the new stowage doesn't actually close, so hiding items in a parked car is harder. Blissfully, physical climate controls made it through the redesign.
In most trims, the Kona has grown by 5.7 inches from nose to tail, improving rear legroom while adding six cubic feet of cargo capacity. To maximize the amount of usable cabin space, Hyundai reduced the thickness of the front seats by 30 percent, further improving rear legroom. Most adults will find the back seat to be reasonably accommodating for a short commute (far better than before), though the rear seats lean awkwardly far back.
Still Sufficiently Sprightly
Both previous-generation engines make their way back into the new Kona. The SE and the SEL rock a somewhat anemic 147-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission, while stepping up to the N Line and Limited trims brings the peppier 190-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder. The turbo four thankfully loses the last generation's seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in favor of a much smoother eight-speed torque-converter automatic. The last turbocharged Kona we tested bustled to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, but considering the addition of a slightly heavier transmission and the overall growth of the car, we expect the new model to add a tenth or two.

2024 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
Starting at $195.000 est
Highs: Hypebeast-meets-aristocrat vibe, silky turbocharged powertrains, practically floats down the road.
Lows: Not as recognizable as a Rolls-Royce, massive markup over the standard S-class, V-12 engine guzzles gas like a pickup truck.
Verdict: As the ultimate Mercedes sedan, the Maybach S-class out-luxes everything else in the brand's portfolio—and well it should at this asking price.
Overview
Billionaire buyers looking for the ultimate in luxury will find the 2024 Mercedes-Maybach S-class a sedan fit for their regal routines. Based on the Benz-branded S-class, the Maybach version turns luxury all the way up and features interior materials that put it squarely in the same class with high-dollar rides such as the Bentley Flying Spur and the Rolls-Royce Ghost. Like those cars, the Maybach is designed to pamper every occupant, especially those in the rear, who are treated with options such as reclining seats with massage, a beverage cooler, and electrically operated doors......
What's New for 2024?
A Night Series appearance package is now available for the Maybach S-class that features darkened chrome exterior accents peppered with rose-gold details in the headlamps. The Night Series models come in gray, black, or white exterior colors or can be had with a two-tone Onyx Black and Mojave Silver scheme. The Maybach rolls on special dark-finished wheels embossed with a pattern made entirely of Maybach logos. The car's cabin is decked out, of course, but the Night Series takes it a step further with unique finishings, and you can choose from either an all-black leather upholstery or a white and black duo.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
S580 4Matic: $195,000 (est)
S680 4Matic: $231,000 (est)
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Under the hood of every S580 sedan is a 496-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, which is augmented by a 48-volt hybrid system. Going with the S680 swaps in a 621-hp 6.0-liter V-12. All models will come with Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system. The V-8 makes 33 more horsepower than the old S560 from 2020, and it packs quite a punch. During our testing, the S580 rocketed to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. But that's not the most impressive thing about the Maybach S-class. During our time with the car, we were impressed with the ride quality and the nearly silent cabin—we recorded an extremely low 64 decibels inside the car while cruising at 70 mph. ......
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Maybach S-class has a seven-inch-longer wheelbase than the already-large Benz-branded S-class sedan, which provides even more stretch-out space inside its leather-lined cabin. So many luxury features are standard in the Maybach we couldn't possibly list them all here, but all models will come with exquisite leather on virtually every interior surface; a 64-color interior ambient lighting system; heated and ventilated front seats with massage and four-position memory settings; heated rear seats with power adjustments and massage; an air ionizing system with a signature fragrance; and a panoramic sunroof. For buyers who intend to be chauffeured, Maybach can add the optional Executive Rear Seat Plus package, which includes rear-seat folding tables, an extended center console, additional rear-seat wood trim, and temperature-controlled cup holders. Also optional are electrically operated rear doors, a refrigerator, and Maybach-branded champagne flutes.

2023 Aston Martin DB11
Starting at $220.086
Highs: Impossible to ignore, triumphant engine note, the V-12 is absolute Aston Martin glory.
Lows: Some interior build quality issues, token back seats, don't expect the latest in infotainment.
Verdict: The DB11 is an elegant way to arrive in extraordinary style, and the V-12 unleashes its ultimate antics.
Overview
There are certain things in life that not everyone will experience, and driving an Aston Martin is one of them. Dodge, Ford, and Chevy have brought high horsepower to the masses by stuffing big engines into their SUVs and trucks, but that's nothing like the experience of driving an Aston Martin DB11. The standard 528-hp twin-turbo V-8 is while thrilling, the mighty 630-hp twin-turbo V-12 coupe is an even grandeur tourer. Both engines sing a beautiful soundtrack and are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels. The DB11 dashes through the quarter-mile in just 11.7 seconds and sounds great doing so. The DB11 delivers its performance without sacrificing comfort. Its bonded and riveted aluminum chassis features a suspension that doesn't crack teeth even in its firmest setting. The stitched seat patterns and rich leather add to the DB11 experience. Though its infotainment screen is small and outdated, the DB11's striking design and exclusivity never get old.
What's New for 2023?
Not much changes for the 2023 Aston Martin DB11. A new 21-inch wheel option from the Vantage F1 Edition is now available, saving an estimated 33 pounds of unsprung weight across all four wheels. These lightweight wheels come standard with Pirelli P Zero tires.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
V-8: $220,086
V-12: $235,586
Volante: $236,286
We think the convertible model, called Volante, is the best DB11 experience. Unfortunately, those who want the added character of the V-12 engine will be disappointed because the drop-top is sold only with the V-8. After selecting our preferred paint color, exterior trim, interior preferences, we'd add the Bang & Olufsen audio system and touchpad control for the infotainment system. The only other extras we'd recommend are the heated steering wheel and blind-spot monitoring.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The DB11 offers two engine choices: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 or a twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V-12. The former develops 528 horsepower and 513 pound-feet of torque while the latter makes 630 ponies and 516 pound-feet. Both pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission that transmits all that torque to the rear wheels. We've tested a detuned, 600-hp version of the V-12 DB11, which showed serious quickness. More recently, we drove the V-12-powered DB11 in northern Germany and reveled in its massive thrust, athletic moves, and an exhaust note that's equally melodic and menacing. We've also experienced the V-8 models. The DB11 coupe proved that the eight-cylinder can be about as quick and sound just as badass as the V-12. Likewise, the droptop DB11 Volante we drove was a stunning way to experience the south of France. While it's not available with the V-12, the Volante thankfully doesn't sacrifice performance.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
With a powerful V-8 and V-12 engines, fuel economy is clearly a low priority for the DB11. Still, the V-8 earns a respectable 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. The 12-cylinder alternative is less thrifty, with ratings of 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. For comparison, the W-12-powered Bentley Continental GT is even less efficient, at 12 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. We haven't had a chance to test any DB11 on our 75-mph fuel-economy route—part of our extensive testing regimen. For more information about the DB11's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The inside of every DB11 is plush and can be customized with a vast array of colors and exotic materials. We've noticed some inconsistent panel fitment and surprisingly cheap-feeling switchgear, though. Still, these issues are minor compared with the otherwise extravagant and heart-pounding experience of driving this car. Every model includes leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and passive entry. A heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats are on offer. There aren't many places inside the DB11 to store small items apart from the center-console bin, which slides open to reveal cupholders and a useful tray.

BMW X5 M Competition Review & Prices
The BMW X5 M Competition ticks many boxes: its quick, comfy, high-quality, spacious with great infotainment. Oh, but there’s one more – expensive
What's good
SUVs don't come much quicker
Fantastic infotainment system
Impressive interior quality
What's not so good
Mercedes' digital dials are better
No option of rear-wheel steering
Far cheaper X5 M50i doesn't feel far cheaper
Is the BMW X5 M Competition a good car?
The BMW X5 M Competition has so much going for it, it’s a bit like a car designed via a focus group. It’s spacious, practical, has a lovely cabin, great infotainment and is fast yet comfy. Oh, this focus group all live in Monaco, by the way.
Yep, the X5 M Competition is watery-eye expensive. More than £100,000 expensive. It isn’t alone, however, because it competes with other blisteringly quick large SUVs such as the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and Porsche Cayenne, which aren’t exactly budget cars.
You can’t be the shy and retiring type to own an X5 M Competition, with its gaping black grille, huge air intakes, huge wheels, large exhausts and vivid unique paint colours helping it stand out over the standard X5.
And, if by some miracle you’d missed the exterior, the X5 M Competition’s interior is every bit as in-your-face. Think seriously figure-hugging seats with quilted stitching, aluminium trim, sports pedals and ambient lighting. Of course, there’s the chance to up the ante with BMW’s options list, but a superb fit and finish are standard.
One thing that stays the same versus stand X5s is the infotainment system, although it’s one of the best in the business. It’s BMW’s top-end Professional system, which gets a 12-inch screen that can be controlled by touch, a rotary dial between the front seats or even a very good voice control system.
It also gets Apple CarPlay as standard (with Android Auto to follow in time), although you’ll have to pay for it beyond year one and Mercedes’ digital dials are more visually impressive and configurable than the ones you get as standard in the BMW.
It’s a shame that European X5 M Competitions don’t sound quite as good as US ones. It’s all to do with a more restrictive exhaust getting in the way of the noise. Boo!
Two adults in the front of the BMW X5 M Competition will have no issues with space, and the same goes for another couple of tall adults behind them in the back. The X5 M Competition keeps the standard cars’ huge 650-litre boot too, which has the added benefit of a split tailgate.
Elsewhere in the world the BMW X5 M Competition also comes as simply an X5 M with 600hp, but here in the UK it’s the full-fat 625hp Competition model or nothing. That V8 petrol sends this 2.4-tonne behemoth to 62mph from standstill in just 3.8 seconds. That’s supercar fast.
And while it won’t lap a track as quickly as BMW’s fastest M cars, the X5 M Competition’s huge tyres, stiff, adaptive suspension, clever differential, extra bracing and quicker steering all help it feel just about as agile as an SUV can, even without the rear-wheel steering of some alternatives.
As such, in town, this big SUV doesn’t feel quite so nimble, but on the motorway it’ll breeze down slip roads and overtake faster-moving traffic with a simple twitch of the right foot, all the while remaining more comfortable and quiet than it has any right to be given its sporty intentions.
How much is the BMW X5 M Competition?
The BMW X5 M Competition has a RRP range of £126,850 to £141,850. However, with carwow you can save on average £11,776. Prices start at £115,749 if paying cash. The price of a used BMW X5 M Competition on carwow starts at £73,000.

2024 BMW i7
Starting at $106.695
Highs: Hides its size and weight well in corners, powerful electric powertrains, the cabin's so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Lows: Can't cruise for the same highway distance as a gas-powered 7-series, tech overload inside, styling isn't for everyone.
Verdict: With more connected features and displays than a Silicon Valley keynote address, the i7 is a luxury EV for the chronically online.
Overview
Electric powertrains make a lot of sense in a large luxury car. Take the 2024 BMW i7, which features a powerful EV powertrain with a nearly silent operation that only serves to enhance the feeling of serenity that luxury buyers expect. Couple that with a smooth ride and a spacious cabin built from premium materials and you have an electric 7-series that's worth its asking price. The i7 is a sedan for the tech-savvy buyer, too, as it's filled to the brim with digital displays and even can be had with a drop-down theater system for those chauffeured in the back—something its chief rival, the Mercedes-Benz EQS, doesn't offer. The i7 xDrive60 comes with 536 horsepower and a driving range of up to 318 miles, while a performance-oriented M70 trim boosts power to 650 hp and offers a range of around 295 miles. A rear-wheel drive eDrive50 model is offered too, and although BMW hasn't said yet, it should offer the most driving range of the bunch. Those range numbers are good enough to compete with rivals such as the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S, neither of which offer anywhere near the sort of sybaritic luxury that the i7 does.
What's New for 2024?
BMW has added the 650-hp M70 and 449-hp eDrive50 models to the i7's lineup for 2024. The more powerful electric powertrain is said to power the big sedan to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and still offers an estimated 295-mile driving range per charge. The eDrive50 uses a single, rear-mounted motor but BMW hasn't yet disclosed its performance or range estimates. Otherwise, we're expecting that the i7 will carry over to the new year with no other major changes.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
eDrive50: $106,695
xDrive60: $125,195
M70: $169,495
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Because they were developed jointly, the i7 benefits from the same spacious, luxurious, and upscale cabin ambiance as the gasoline-powered 7-series. In addition to luxuries, the i7 offers a bevy of high-tech convenience features that put it on solid footing versus rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS and the Tesla Model S. There's generous room in both the front and the rear seats and fine materials lining every square inch of the interior. Opt for the Executive Lounge package and your rear-seat passengers will be treated to power-adjustable reclining seats, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and extra-plush headrests. The trunk space is plentiful but if you're hauling longer items, you'll find a handy rear-seat pass-through feature.

2024 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Starting at $85.075
Overview
The Sport in the 2024 Range Rover Sport's name is not only a reference to its position just beneath the grander Range Rover, but it also stands for the shot of adrenaline it injects into the brand's lineup. While other Range Rover models aim to deliver comfort and luxury, the Range Rover Sport offers those traits alongside athleticism on par with rivals such as the BMW X5, the Porsche Cayenne, and the Mercedes-AMG GLE53. All its available powertrains pack a reasonable punch, from the 355-hp inline-six to the 542-hp plug-in hybrid. The Range Rover Sport's cabin is also impressive, with fine materials draped over two comfortable rows of seats. But this mix of prestige and refinement means its starting price is higher than that of other SUVs, so prepare to pay a premium to park the Range Rover Sport in your driveway.
What's New for 2024?
The big news for 2024 is the addition of the 626-hp Range Rover Sport SV, but we review that model separately. The regular Range Rover Sport gains a new 542-hp plug-in-hybrid powertrain called P550e. This replaces last year's P440e model and offers both more power and more electric driving range. Elsewhere, the Range Rover Sport's infotainment system has been upgraded to the latest Pivi Pro 4 software interface. The update includes sliders for volume and climate controls that Land Rover says are easier to use; the system menus have been simplified as well to make it easier to navigate. The V-8–powered P530 powertrain has been discontinued for 2024 to make room in the lineup for the performance-oriented SV model.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
P360 SE: $85,075
P400 Dynamic SE: $92,175
P550 PHEV Autobiography: $119,675
We think the more powerful P400 Dynamic SE is the trim to go with. Its extra horsepower will undoubtedly give it a bit of a boost both around town and on the highway, and it offers a litany of luxury and convenience features without requiring a six-figure bill.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The entry-level engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that employs a 48-volt hybrid system and makes 355 horsepower in the P360 SE and 395 horsepower in the P400 SE Dynamic. When we tested the P360 SE, it needed only 5.7 seconds to hit 60 mph but felt more sluggish than that around town. Our test vehicle delivered peerless ride quality, though, which was appreciated over the broken tarmac near our Michigan headquarters. A plug-in-hybrid P5500e setup is exclusive to the fancy Autobiography trim and pairs an electric motor to the inline-six for a combined 542 horsepower. Land Rover estimates the PHEV powertrain will motivate the Range Rover Sport to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive, and an adjustable air suspension. The Range Rover Sport can also be had with an optional performance driving setup called Stormer Handling Pack, which adds rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring. During our initial test drive, we were impressed with the Range Rover Sport's blend of comfort and athleticism and noted that its rear-wheel-steering system made maneuvering in tight spaces less challenging than in other similarly sized SUVs.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The interior design of the Range Rover Sport is an exercise in minimalism, with few physical buttons and switches and a streamlined appearance throughout the cabin. Buyers can choose from either textile or genuine leather upholstery in attractive two-tone designs. The dark-tinted chrome accents look particularly premium. Power-adjustable front seats are standard, but a set of chairs with up to 22 ways of adjustability as well as massage, ventilation, and winged headrests is optional. An integrated air purification system is available and is said to reduce odors, bacteria, viruses, and allergens from the cabin.

New Toyota Land Cruiser Debuts with 409-HP 3.4L Twin-Turbo V-6
The new 300-series SUV is enticing but won't be making its way to the U.S. market in this form. We may get a version as the next Lexus LX.
Toyota has revealed the new 300-series generation of the Land Cruiser SUV.
It has new engines including a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 and a 3.3-liter turbodiesel V-6.
We won't get this new model in the U.S., but we may get something similar as the next-gen Lexus LX.
Toyota doesn't redesign the Land Cruiser too often, so the arrival of this new 300-series model is a big deal. Compared with the outgoing 200-series iteration, this new Land Cruiser is lighter, more powerful, and has a far more modern interior. It'll go on sale in global markets but likely won't reach the U.S.—at least not in this form. After the Land Cruiser's recent discontinuation, the prevailing rumor is that America will only get the Lexus version of this new model, as the next-generation LX.
While we wait to see what Toyota does with this new model on our shores, we can dive into the specs. It weighs a claimed 440 pounds less than its predecessor and uses two new engines: a gasoline twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 with 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque or a turbodiesel twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 with 304 hp and 516 pound-feet of torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission and—naturally—four-wheel drive are standard across the board.
The new design doesn't look radically different from the current model, but the front end has a more prominent grille and a snazzier lighting setup, while the rear has new taillights and a reshaped tailgate. Inside, the cabin benefits from a significant upgrade with a large tablet-style infotainment screen and a cleaner dashboard layout. Three rows of seats will be available, and the third row appears to fold into the floor—a change from the current model, which requires you to flip and fold the wayback seats up towards the windows for more cargo capacity.
We should hear more about Toyota's future plans for the Land Cruiser soon, and we're curious to see what happens—if anything—with the nameplate in the U.S.

Highs: There are only a few places on earth the Defender can't go, off-road capability doesn't compromise on-road refinement, retro-modern interior.
Lows: Could be more fuel efficient, high prices for top models, cargo space is tight in 90 and 110 models.
Verdict: The Defender honors its off-road legacy while adding creature comforts that make it a true dual-purpose machine.
What's New for 2023?
The long-wheelbase Defender 130 model is available in a new Outbound trim level for 2024 that ditches the SUV's third row of seats and the rearmost windows to make room for additional cargo space inside and allow for more exterior customization via a slew of available accessories. The 130 model is also now available with the 518-hp supercharged V-8 that's optional on 90 and 110 models. Speaking of the 110, a new County Exterior package is available for that body style that includes a two-tone exterior paint scheme, a unique 20-inch wheel design, illuminated door sill protectors, and interior embellishments to match the exterior.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Defender is powered by a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Of course, every model features four-wheel drive and locking differentials for navigating treacherous terrain. The Defender is also available with a 3.0-liter inline-six which utilizes an electric supercharger and a 48-volt hybrid system. The long-wheelbase 130 model we tested with this powertrain ran to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. Buyers looking for additional performance can opt for the 518-hp supercharged V-8, which hustled the Defender 90 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds in our testing. Unlike its predecessor, the Defender has a unibody construction versus a body-on-frame setup, and it replaces the old solid axles with a fully independent suspension. The base suspension utilizes coil springs, but it can be upgraded with an air suspension that enables adjustable ride height. The Defender has 11.5 inches of ground clearance and the ability to ford through 35 inches of water, which exceeds both the Jeep Wrangler's maximum clearance and its wading ability.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Defender's cabin walks the line between premium and utilitarian, with just enough design cues from the rest of the Land Rover lineup to make those familiar with the brand feel at home. Exposed rivets in the door panels add a rugged appearance, and a magnesium beam that runs the full width of the dashboard isn't entirely cosmetic—it's also structural. Under the infotainment display, a trapezoidal extension of the dashboard provides a place for buttons and switches for the climate-control system and driving mode. The shift lever and ignition switch are also mounted on this center stack rather than the center console. In some models, the center console can be flipped back to create a jump seat between the driver and passenger, similar to a three-across bench in some full-size pickup trucks. Cargo space behind the rear seat in 90 and 110 models is limited, but on par with rival off-roaders such as the Wrangler; the rear seats can be folded to open up a much larger cargo bay but those seeking to haul people and gear may want to look at the larger Land Rover Discovery or invest in a roof-top cargo carrier. The longer 130 model offers additional cargo space with the third row stowed, but with it in use, there’s not much room for gear.

2024 Land Rover Range Rover
Starting at $108.875
Pricing and Which One to Buy:
P400 SE: $108,875
P530 SE: $131,750
P550e Autobiography: $142,575
P530 Autobiography: $167,750
P615 SV: $210,475
Carmel Edition: $371,475
Our long-wheelbase P400 test vehicle managed to hit 60 mph in a fairly brisk 5.5 seconds while the short-wheelbase P530 we tested did it in just 4.3 seconds. The Range Rover's ride is suitably plush and, with its adjustable air suspension set to Comfort mode, it virtually floats down the road. Turning the dial to Dynamic mode firms things up some, but the big Rover still aims for a comfort-first mission.
An optional motorized divider for the cargo area helps keep things from moving around too much during travel, and the Range Rover's split rear liftgate can be used as convenient and comfortable seating for outdoor events.

2024 Lexus LC
Starting at $98.850
Highs Seductive styling, standard V-8 sounds fantastic, comfortable seats.
Lows Not as sporty as it looks, soft brake pedal feel, optional hybrid lacks the emotive sound of the V-8.
Verdict The LC's exotic looks and luxurious cabin make it a desirable grand-touring two-door we'd happily have on a road trip.
Overview
Don't let the 2024 Lexus LC's striking styling fool you, it's less sports car and more luxury car—but one we'd gladly tap for a cross-country tour. Performance is more muted than rivals such as the BMW M8 and the Porsche 911 Turbo, but the LC was made for cruising, not apex hunting. Its slinky sheetmetal turns heads and gives the LC a look that's as expensive as it is, and inside its two-seat cockpit is both comfortable for long drives and easy to live with day-to-day. A V-8 engine is standard and provides a spine-tingling soundtrack; a V-6 hybrid setup is also available for those who want to maximize fuel economy and driving range. Both coupe and convertible bodystyles are offered and Lexus provides plenty of customization options via the Bespoke Build program, so view that as a challenge to put together a tasteful and timeless look that will continue to turn heads for years to come.
What's New for 2024?
This year, Lexus has finally upgraded the LC's infotainment system with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen running the company's latest software interface. All models now come with parking sensors and 21-inch wheels as standard and there are two new colors available too: Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 and Copper Crest. A limited edition Inspiration Series model will be offered on both the LC500 coupe and LC500 convertible. The package adds more than just racy appearance items and also includes a limited-slip differential and performance dampers in the rear suspension. Only 125 will be sold in total, all of them painted Polar Surge Satin white with a blue leather interior. More options through the Lexus Bespoke Build program allow for more customization, including a carbon-fiber roof panel on the coupe and different colors for the convertible model's top.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
LC500 coupe: $98,850
LC500h coupe: $102,150
LC500 convertible: $106,350
LC500 Inspiration Series coupe: $116,700
LC500 Inspiration Series convertible: $121,900
The 2024 Lexus LC starts at $98,850 and goes up to $106,350. The base trim level is the LC500 coupe, but there's also an LC500h hybrid and an LC500 convertible offered. We prefer the nonhybrid LC500 model over the heavier and pricier LC500h hybrid. We also recommend the Touring package, which inc
ludes semi-aniline leather upholstery, a faux-suede headliner, a 13-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system, parking sensors, a windshield wiper de-icing feature, and a heated steering wheel. The question now becomes whether to stick with the coupe or go for the convertible. The answer to that lies in your own personal preference because we can see the appeal of both.

2024 Bentley Continental GT
Starting at $240.000 est
Highs: Artful exterior design, the cabin is a delight to the senses, world-class ride and handling balance.
Lows: Fuel efficiency isn't a priority, few driver-assistance features are standard, arm-and-a-leg price tag.
Verdict: Yeah, it costs a lot, but the Continental GT is a two-door grand tourer that's worth every penny.
Overview
Covering long hauls on the road behind the wheel of the 2024 Bentley Continental GT feels like mere jaunts across town thanks to this grand tourer's deluxe cabin and just-right suspension tuning. Offered in your choice of either a coupe or a softtop convertible, the Continental GT is styled to stand out while you melt into its softly padded seats. Under the hood is either a V-8 or W-12 engine, both supplemented by twin turbochargers for massive power. In either case, the Continental GT never wants for power, and while it can corner like a sports car, it also easily hides road imperfections when the day calls for comfortable cruising. As expected from the storied British brand, the Conti can be ordered to your exact specification through the Mulliner coachbuilding division. But even if you opt for an off-the-shelf model, you'll still get a beautifully designed luxury car lined with premium materials and packed with desirable features.
What's New for 2024?
Styling tweaks for the 2024 Continental GT include new 22-inch wheel options for the Azure trim, dark gray exterior detailing on the Speed model, and a new optional dark-tinted finish for the aluminum grille trim. Inside, the Azure models come with lofted quilting on the seats and door panels. All models also come with plusher floor mats made from wool. Those wool floor mats now lie on top of carpeting made from recycled nylon.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Coupe: $240,000 (est)
Convertible: $260,000 (est)
S Coupe: $270,000 (est)
Azure Coupe: $290,000 (est)
Speed Coupe: $295,000 (est)
S Convertible: $300,000 (est)
Mulliner Coupe: $310,000 (est)
Azure Convertible: $315,000 (est)
Speed Convertible: $325,000 (est)
Mulliner Convertible: $330,000 (est)
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Updated versions of the existing V-8 and W-12 engines that powered the previous-generation Continental GT provide muscle-car performance. Our testing revealed that the 4.0-liter V-8, which makes 542 horses, can launch the 4926-pound coupe to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. The more expensive 6.0-liter W-12 engine produces 626 horsepower in non-Speed models and can motivate a coupe to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. The same engine has been tuned up to 650 hp in the Speed model, and we estimate it can reach 60 in as little as 3.1 seconds. Both engines work through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that snaps off quick, smooth shifts. Customers can order the coupe or convertible with either engine. And all Continental GTs come with an all-wheel-drive system standard, which helps put their prodigious power to the road absent any drama.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
We expect a luxurious cabin from anything wearing the Bentley badge, and this two-door is no different. The interior is swathed in luscious, aromatic leather and fine wood veneers, and nearly everything about the Continental GT is customizable—for a price, of course. Bentley's designers thought every design detail through, and each time behind the wheel reveals a surprising detail, such as expertly knurled control knobs and double-stitched diamond-pattern seat trim. Although the Continental GT technically has seatbelts for four occupants, we'd suggest you avoid using the rear seat for hauling adult-size people since both leg- and headroom are limited. In our testing, we were able to fit five carry-on suitcases in the Continental's trunk—plenty of space for a weekend away with your favorite travel companion.

2024 Kia Sportage
Starting at $28.415
Overview
To keep a firm hold on new-vehicle shoppers, compact crossovers such as the Kia Sportage make space their number-one priority. The two-row Sportage is spacious and is offered with a 187-hp four-cylinder engine that lacks significant kick. The more powerful Sportage Hybrid and PHEV, reviewed separately, mostly fix that gripe. Up against the likes of the Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V, the Sportage uses a bevy of standard features and equipment, with an affordable starting price to sweeten the temptation. Front-wheel drive is standard on most trims, but all-wheel drive is available. The Sportage’s distracting design keeps it from being mistaken for another crossover, but it does share much of its DNA with its corporate sibling, the Hyundai Tucson.
What's New for 2024?
After a major overhaul last year, the Kia Sportage sees some less dramatic changes for 2024. Kia fits airbags to the second-row seats and LED projector headlights as standard equipment on all Sportage models. They've also dropped the all-wheel-drive SX trim for 2024.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
LX: $28,415
EX: $30,415
X-Line: $33,215
SX: $33,915
SX-Prestige: $35,915
X-Pro: $37,415
X-Pro Prestige: $39,215
The midrange EX appears to offer the most value here, adding desirable features such as the larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone charging, and heated front seats.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Sportage's default powertrain is a 187-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder that mates to an eight-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. We sampled both the base four-cylinder and the hybrid powertrain during our initial test drive and were more satisfied with the latter than the former. At our test track, the nonhybrid Sportage needed 8.6 seconds to hit 60 mph versus only 7.4 seconds for the hybrid. The Sportage rides on a new platform with a longer wheelbase than the previous generation, and ride comfort is improved as a result. The introduction of rugged-looking trims such as the X-Line gives the compact ute an off-road vibe, but the X-Pro actually has some equipment to help tackle the rough stuff. It rides on black 17-inch rims and all-terrain tires and features a selection of drive modes.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Inside, the Sportage makes an impression with a snazzy design highlighted by a huge digital display on the dashboard and other various eye-catching details. The interior is available in an attractive two-tone color scheme as an option, but if you prefer an all-black cabin that's available too. The center console boasts a rotary shift knob, a push-to-start button, and a myriad of other controls that blend into the piano-black bezel. Thanks to bigger dimensions overall as well as a longer wheelbase, the Sportage has more rear-seat legroom and 40 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat. There's also a dual-level cargo floor for even more versatility.

2024 Cadillac Escalade
Starting at $86.000 est
Overview
In the more than two decades since its controversial debut, the Escalade has evolved from a tarted-up GMC Yukon to Cadillac's most recognizable nameplate. The current-generation Escalade enters its third model year, and although it's still related to the Yukon and the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban it undeniably has the luxury chops to take on high-dollar competitors such as the Lincoln Navigator, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and the Lexus LX600—in fact, it vanquished those three rivals in a comparison test last year. Credit the Escalade's plush ride and secure handling; its powerful 6.2-liter V-8 (a torque-rich turbo-diesel inline-six is also available); and a high-tech interior that features a curved OLED digital display. As before, the Escalade is offered in a standard-length body style or in the longer ESV configuration that has significantly more cargo space behind the third-row seat. And last year, a potent new V-series model joined the lineup as the high-performance flagship, its supercharged V-8 churning out 682 horsepower.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Luxury: $86,000 (est)
Premium Luxury: $97,000 (est)
Sport: $100,000 (est)
Premium Luxury Platinum: $115,000 (est)
Sport Platinum: $115,000 (est)
V-Series: $156,000 (est)
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
As the flagship of the Cadillac lineup, the Escalade ups the ante on in-cabin luxury. Faux leather is used in the base Luxury trim, but all other trims receive the real deal, with Platinum models getting extra-soft semi-aniline hides. Leather-covered dash and door panels, aluminum speaker grilles, and adjustable interior ambient lighting provide an upscale appearance, although some switchgear is shared with lesser GM models. Both a standard and long-wheelbase ESV model are offered, the latter of which yields more legroom for third-row riders and additional cargo space.

2023 Maybach S 680 Auto Brief
Model Changes
The Mercedes Benz S-Class adds a new S 580e hybrid model for 2023 but otherwise carries over with minimal changes.
Model Changes
Strong, smooth powertrains; aggressive styling; innovative technology; long-held reputation for durability; a luxury benchmark; coupe and cabriolet availability; AMG performance availability
Model Value
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class continues to showcase the leading edge of automotive technology -- including some world firsts for active safety -- and in ride comfort and interior ambiance. When compared to its rivals such as the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8, the S-Class continues to be seen as the premium luxury sedan on the market. With its sleek and aggressive styling, impressive list of features and performance rivaling exotic cars, the S-Class will exceed most peoples' expectations in an ultra-luxury sedan.
Model Overview
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available in six models: S 500, S 560, S580, AMG S 63, Maybach S 580, and S 580e. Each model is set apart by their engine, with the AMG model driving performance to the upper limits. The S 500 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0L 6-cylinder engine making 429 horsepower, while the S 560 employs a turbocharged 4.0L V8 producing 463 horsepower. The AMG S 63 gets a significant increase in performance, powered by a 4.0L turbocharged V8 making 603 horsepower and 664 lb-feet of torque. The Maybach S 580 tops the lineup with a 4.0L turbocharged V8 with 496 horsepower and 516 lb-feet of torque. The S 580e is powered by 3L turbocharged 6-cylinder producing 510 horsepower when combined with the electric motors. The S-Class sends power to the wheels through a 9-speed multi-clutch AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission offering multiple driving modes. Rear-wheel drive is only available in the S 560, while all other models come standard with the Mercedes 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
The S-Class S 500 is a hybrid combining the 4L engine with an electric motor for 450 horsepower. Fuel economy is obviously markedly improved over other models, even though it is a large car.
Performance and handling in the S-Class is second to none. Multimode drive selection allows drivers to select from four different modes to change throttle response, shifting and steering control as desired. The expected comfortable ride is achieved through Mercedes' AIRMATIC suspension and adaptive damping system. Magic Body Control is an optional feature in the S-Class; it scans the road surface and changes the suspension settings to suit the surface and your own desired level of comfort and control.
The AMG S63 gets a special AMG Adaptive Sports Suspension that's tuned to make the most of the all-wheel drive system's capability and this car's more performance-oriented setup.
The S-Class, being the true luxury sedan that it is, has a long list of standard features and an array of additional options available. Standard features include LED exterior lighting, panorama roof, wood/leather steering wheel, heated power leather seats, soft-close doors, dual-zone climate control, cabin fragrance system, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, Burmester surround sound system, 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Sirius XM, navigation and inductive wireless charging. Some of the many optional features include larger wheels, ventilated seats, heated and ventilated rear seats, massage seats, heated and cooled cup holders, heated windshield, upgraded sound system and rear seat entertainment system.
Personalization options on the AMG model include a carbon fiber package, a wood and Napa leather-wrapped steering wheel, the ceramic-brake upgrade, red brake calipers and special carbon fiber and black piano lacquer trim.
Safety takes center stage in the S-Class, once again. As part of a Driver Assistance Package, prospective buyers can add the DISTRONIC PLUS radar-based cruise control, PRE-SAFE autonomous braking, the PRE-SAFE PLUS rear-facing radar warning system, BAS PLUS with Cross Traffic Assist (using stereoscopic cameras to help prevent an accident), Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Protection. There's also Night View Assist Plus, a feature that continues to be refined, and uses infrared and camera information to detect animals and people along the road ahead.

2023 Mercedes-Maybach GLS-Class
Starting at $171.150
Highs Lavish cabin, impossibly smooth ride, looks as expensive as it is.
Lows Costs the same as a midwestern starter home, regular GLS-class is more practical, may draw too much attention for undercover millionaires.
Verdict The Maybach GLS600 is your ticket to living your Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous fantasy.
Overview
If the idea of parking a Mercedes-Benz in the manicured driveway of your private villa seems too lowbrow, then perhaps Mercedes-Maybach ownership is within reach. The Maybach GLS600 is a luxed-up version of the Mercedes-Benz GLS-class SUV with a focus on exclusivity and extreme comfort. A twin-turbocharged V-8 provides ample power for wafting down the highway and the Maybach's suspension has been tuned to erase any road irregularities. Inside, there are acres of legroom in both rows of seats, and the setup is especially focused on pampering those in the rear, with reclining seats, massage features, and even an available beverage cooler. The GLS600 is an SUV for kicking back and letting your driver worry about the traffic. After all, you have more important things to do, such as running your empire or unwinding after a day of dodging the paparazzi. For the rest of us, a Benz will have to do, since the Maybach's price puts it squarely in the realm of champagne wishes and caviar dreams.
What's New for 2023?
The GLS600 receives no updates for the 2023 model year, but a styling facelift is on the horizon for 2024.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
GLS600: $171,150
If you're in the market for a high-dollar luxury SUV, you're hardly going to listen to the likes of us when deciding which options to order. Plus, Mercedes-Maybach is making most things standard, including a semi-autonomous driving mode, nappa leather upholstery, and handsome interior and exterior trimmings. We'd suggest perusing the numerous personalization options, though, to really make the GLS600 your own.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The GLS600's twin-turbocharged V-8 makes 558 horsepower and can motivate the big luxury SUV from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, according to Mercedes-Maybach. The engine is assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system that gives a little extra shove right from the start. If that's not fast enough for you, check out the Mercedes-AMG GLS63, which offers a 603-hp version of this powertrain and leaped to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds at our test track. During our initial test drive, we came away impressed with both its silky-smooth ride quality and its confident handling. An air suspension is standard, and it features a Maybach mode that all but erases bumps in the road.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA has given the GLS600 fuel economy ratings of 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. Those aren't particularly efficient estimates, but we're certain the big spenders who will be cross-shopping the GLS600 against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan won't be too concerned with fuel efficiency. When we get a chance to test the GLS600, we'll take it on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route and update this story with the results. For more information about the GLS-class's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
While the regular Benz-branded GLS-class SUV is a three-row affair, the Maybach GLS600 offers just two rows, both of which offer heat and massage functions. The rear seats are the place to be; with acres of legroom and two power-adjustable recliner seats, riding in the back is akin to traveling in the fanciest first-class airline cabins. A three-across bench is also offered, but c'mon, the executive treatment is what this SUV is all about. Nappa leather covers the dash, door panels, and seats, while real wood trim with a handsome pinstripe adds a touch of class. A fragrance diffuser helps occupants create the sensory oasis they deserve after a hard day of being filthy rich. Cargo capacity isn't as generous here as it is in the regular GLS-class since the rear seats are fixed and don't fold to accommodate larger items. Mercedes-Maybach says there's still about 19 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and will offer a handsome set of custom-fitted luggage.

Volkswagen Amarok review
What is it?
It’s the new Volkswagen Amarok, if that wasn’t abundantly clear from the in-yer-face VW grille and the giant AMAROK lettering across the tailgate. The first-generation arrived in 2010 and saw off a fair bit of competition in the posh pickup truck market (we’re looking at you in particular, Mercedes X-Class) before it was eventually retired on our shores in May 2020.
For a while it looked like the difficult second album might never happen, but then word of a deal between Volkswagen and Ford emerged, and as a result we now have a second-generation Amarok that’s essentially a Ford Ranger underneath. Heck, it’s even built on the same line as the Ranger in Ford’s Silverton Assembly Plant in Pretoria, South Africa.
What does that mean for the bits underneath?
Well, if you’re well versed on the spec sheet of the new Ranger, you won’t find many surprises here. Although, VW does only offer the shared diesel engines for the Amarok in the UK – a 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol V6 is available elsewhere in the world, while the special Ranger Raptor can now be had with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 over here.
Anyway, you can have an Amarok with a 2.0-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder or a 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6. Both come in various states of tune with a number of different power outputs (you’ll find everything in full detail over on the Driving tab of this review) but essentially the slowest VW pickup gets 168bhp and 299lb ft of torque, while the fastest gets 237bhp and 443lb ft.
What about gearboxes?
There are two to choose from, although you can only pair the six-speed manual with the 2.0-litre four-pot in its weakest 168bhp tune. And you can only have that powertrain with the entry-level Life trim. All other engine options and trim levels use a 10-speed auto ‘box.
And what are the other trim levels?
Good question. As mentioned, Life is the entry to the Amarok range. That includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lights and a slightly smaller infotainment screen than the rest of the range. Above that is the Style trim which adds things like matrix LED headlights and wireless phone charging, before the off-road-spec PanAmericana edition and the range-topping Aventura with its chrome accents and massive 21-inch wheels.
Wait, how much do they all cost?
Prices in the UK start at £34,055 excluding VAT, because this is a commercial vehicle and many people will be buying through a business. Style trim kicks off at £42,505 exc VAT, while the PanAmericana is £47,255 and the Aventura is £48,055 (both also without tax added on).
If you’re buying as a non-commercial customer and paying VAT, the top spec Aventura will set you back £57,591. Sounds like a lot of money, but in a world where an entry-level Touareg is around £60k you can see why lots of people prefer posh pickups over SUVs.
Surely there are some more impressive numbers to get my attention, too?
Of course there are. We’ll start with the dimensions, because now that it’s based on the Ranger, the Amarok is a fair bit bigger than its previous generation. In fact, it’s 96mm longer with a wheelbase that’s 173mm longer. That means slightly shorter overhangs for better off-roading, and crucially the bed is wide enough to fit a Euro pallet loaded sideways. Oh, and all Amaroks come in double cab form with five seats.
In terms of weights, the Amarok can tow up to 3,500kg and take a payload of up to 1,113kg. Plus it gets a wading depth of 800mm, which is up from the previous gen’s 500mm.
Final number: VW says that the Amarok gets ‘more than 20’ new driver assistance systems compared to the old truck. We’ll let you decide whether that’s a positive or not…
What's the verdict?
“The Amarok's good to drive and should be fairly easy to live with. As long as you live somewhere with wide roads, that is”
The second-gen Amarok nails its repeat brief – to be a car-like posh pickup. That does mean it falls down in some areas (it’s pricey, and bring back the physical buttons!) but it also means it’s good to drive and should be fairly easy to live with. As long as you live somewhere with wide roads, that is.
Go for the turbodiesel V6 and you’ll get a super strong powertrain too. The auto gearbox is slick enough and there’s more than enough torque to tow, carry and off-road – perhaps even all three at the same time. Plus, you’ll be able to do all of that while sitting in a leather-filled cabin listening to a Harman Kardon stereo.

2024 Renault Megane E-Tech Electric price and specs
The new Renault Megane E-Tech Electric – the battery-powered SUV reboot of the iconic hatchback – will launch in Australia in a single model grade priced close to $70,000 drive-away.
2024 Renault Megane E-Tech Electric pricing and specifications
One model grade equivalent to Europe's mid-range specification
450km claimed driving range
Priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs
The 2024 Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is due in Australian showrooms early next year priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs.
The Megane E-Tech Electric – unveiled in Europe nearly two years ago – is a new small SUV on dedicated electric-car underpinnings, which has replaced the old Megane petrol hatch, and is about the same size as the Renault Captur petrol city SUV.
One model grade will be offered by Renault in Australia initially – the EV60 – equivalent to a middle-of-the-range, rather than top-specification variant in Europe.
Priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs – or close to $70,000 drive-away – it will be the most expensive passenger vehicle the company sells in Australia.
However it is less expensive than the final Renault Megane RS petrol hot hatchbacks which arrived earlier this year – the Ultime, priced from $67,500 to $70,500 plus on-road costs – as well as the highest-priced Renault the company still sells, the Master bus ($68,700 plus on-roads).
The local distributor for Renault Australia has elected to sell the vehicle through its 58 showrooms nationally, rather than move to online, fixed-price sales to manage limited electric-car allocations as other car makers have done.
Powering the EV60 is a 160kW/300Nm electric motor driving the front wheels, fed by a 60kWh pack good for a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.4 seconds, and 454km of claimed driving range in European WLTP testing.
Renault claims DC charging capability at up to 130kW, said to allow 300km of WLTP driving range (15 to 80 per cent charge) to be added in 30 minutes.
Home AC charging appears to peak at 7.4kW, for a zero to 100 per cent charge on a 7.4kW or 22kW home wallbox in a claimed nine hours and 15 minutes.
Standard equipment in Australia's EV60 launch model includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 9.0-inch touchscreen, cloth and synthetic leather-look seats, six speakers, adaptive LED headlights, and a full suite of advanced safety technology.
It misses out on top-of-the-range features available in Europe, including a larger 12-inch portrait touchscreen, nine-speaker Harman Kardon stereo and leather seats.
Six exterior colours will be available – Rafale Grey, Shadow Grey, Solid White, Diamond Black, Flame Red, and Night Blue – with a choice of body-coloured or contrasting black or grey roof finishes, depending on the lower body colour selected.
The Megane E-Tech Electric measures 4200mm long, 1768mm wide and 1500mm tall, on a 2685mm wheelbase.
Compared to the outgoing Megane petrol hatch – sold exclusively in high-performance RS form since 2019 – the electric car is about 160mm shorter in overall length and 110mm narrower, but 65mm taller and 15mm longer between the wheels due to the electric-car platform.
It is a similar size to the petrol Renault Captur city SUV, as well as a Mazda CX-3, Ford Puma, or the outgoing Hyundai Kona Electric.
The 2024 Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is available to order now ahead of expected Australian showroom arrivals early next year, as previously reported by Drive.

2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance Employs F1 Battery Tech for a Greater Good
The plug-in-hybrid powertrain bestows the supersedan with 791 horsepower and 1055 pound-feet of torque.
It's entirely possible to train an elephant to dance; the real trick is getting it to want to. Not that we're comparing the 2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance to the world's largest and strongest land-roving mammal, but since the car weighs in at an estimated 5500 pounds, measures 17.5 feet long, and packs nearly 800 horsepower, a certain similarity is undeniable. Our sample car's Selenite Grey Magno satin paint only encourages the analogy.
Fortunately, AMG has been challenging the laws of physics for decades, beginning with the original Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 "Red Pig" in the 1970s. But even the most robust species needs to evolve; for the S63 E Performance, that means the addition of an electric motor and an F1-derived battery to the S63's 4.0-liter 603-hp twin-turbo V-8. Together they're good for a claimed 791 horsepower.
AMG makes it clear that the focus of the S63's hybrid powertrain is "less on electric range and more on best-in-class performance." Fittingly, the S63 E Performance places the 188-hp electric motor at the rear axle and integrates a two-speed transmission and electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential. This allows the total output from the V-8 and electric motor to be delivered simultaneously. The car starts in EV-only mode, and we estimate the electric-only range should be around 20 miles at speeds up to 87 mph.
An F1-derived hybrid system
It takes quite a bit of complex choreography to ensure the S63 moves gracefully. At the risk of oversimplification, the system, referred to as a "P3 hybrid," provides instantaneous torque from a standstill for faster launches and, if driven delicately, a smoother disposition around town. In the event of wheel slip at the rear axle, the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system performs a two-step and directs output to the front wheels via an electronically controlled clutch pack. Likewise, 4Matic+ provides all-wheel drive when the S63 is running on the electric motor alone.
The 10.5-kWh battery, developed in conjunction with U.K.-based F1 engine manufacturer High Performance Powertrains (HPP), utilizes the lithium-ion energy storage system derived from the units used in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team's Formula 1 hybrid race cars. Comparatively light and compact, it can withstand the stress and heat buildup of repeated rapid discharge and recharge cycles while maintaining high current flow thanks to an advanced cooling circuit. Designed to keep the battery at an optimal 113 degrees Fahrenheit, the cooling system circulates liquid around all 1200 cells before entering an integral heat exchanger attached directly to the battery and then to another exchanger at the front of the car. A safety system is in place to reduce output if temps wander too far from the sweet spot and to safeguard the battery from accelerated degradation.
Four levels of onboard regeneration are available, ranging from the almost freewheeling Level 0 to the almost one-pedal-driving Level 3, which can return over 90 kilowatts of energy to the battery, depending on driving conditions. We found Level 2 to be the ticket for comfortable cruising and Level 0 to be the right choice for the tight twisty roads of the Santa Monica Mountains. Interestingly, AMG says the only way to charge the battery to 100 percent is via the 3.7-kW onboard AC charger. Again, the battery is optimized for fast power delivery, not record-breaking economy runs, and the regeneration algorithms take this—and battery longevity—into consideration.
Driving the S63
Though the hybrid system sounds a little complicated and intimidating, any concerns about its viability disappear after a short stint at the wheel. The various elements mesh imperceptibly thanks to careful calibration of the software, along with the electric motor's unique nature and its ability to provide immediate torque directly to the rear axle. Whether we were cruising the Pacific Coast Highway or hustling through the mountain roads above, the powertrain remains resolute with zero soft spots or clumsy handoffs.

Launch Review: 2023 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro offers good value but lacks finesse in some areas
South African consumers have really taken to Chinese automaker Chery with total sales locally standing at 20 000 units in the last 18 months.
In a local context, that’s not an insignificant number and makes them one of the top 10 best selling brands.
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro was introduced at the beginning of last year, tweaked towards the end of the year, and the more powerful Tiggo 8 Pro Max was also added to the mix. In keeping with its fast evolving offerings, both models have now received significant interior and exterior styling upgrades.
The engines have been retained with the Tiggo 8 Pro powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, providing 145kW and 290Nm, and the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, which we drove on launch, featuring a beefier 2.0-litre turbo petrol mill pushing out 187kW and 390Nm.
Both send power to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
The most significant change to the exterior is the new front grille design that they say is a reinterpretation of the “galaxy full of stars” and is informally called the “warp-speed grille”.
The Chery logo lights up using LED lights that combine with a special light-up sequence of the LED Matrix headlamps and LED daytime running lights. Pretty nifty, I think.
The rear has also received a sporty upgrade with a redesigned tail light clusters connected by an LED light bar.
The Pro stands on 17-inch diamond-cut alloys while the 8 Pro Max sports 18-inch rims.
The interior has received a complete makeover, the most obvious being the two thin and connected dual screen cluster system with a 12.35-inch digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system mounted behind a 24.7-inch single screen.
The third screen that was mounted on the lower level of the centre console that managed the climate control has been replaced by a set of haptic touch-sensitive buttons that are easier to control and also safer when you’re behind the wheel.
There’s less glass but they do add an extra sense of style to the seven seater SUV that allows all rows to set their own temperatures.
The dashboard has received a complete makeover with upmarket soft-touch materials, wood grain patterns and silver finishing, much the same as some of the switchgear. The centre console features a new gear lever, revised cup holders and a 50W wireless charging pad.
As you would expect it’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible, has a panoramic sunroof, four USB ports (2xA and 2xC), voice recognition and commands, fully electrically adjustable seats and an eight-speaker Sony audio system that can “dance” to your selected music with the 64 hue customisable ambient lighting.
I don’t think bopping lights to whatever new repetitive YouTube music sensation is something I’d want to distract me, but there you are.
It seems that most cars, perhaps not so much on the top end and performance versions, these days are mostly about technology and connectivity and less about the driving dynamics, handling, steering and chassis or suspension performance.
It’s not just limited to a single manufacturer mind you and as the world becomes all about new energy vehicles, Google, self drive and whatever else the future holds, the bulk of consumers care more about whether they can read/hear a restaurant review in their car than what it’s like to drive on the way to their meal and then be able to post a picture and hashtag it on the way home.
It was something I was thinking about while driving the N3 and some spectacularly potholed roads between Durban and Nottingham Road on the launch drive.
Look, there’s nothing exceptionally jarring or wrong per se with the Tiggo 8 Pro Max’s handling and performance but for a luxury SUV I would have preferred a little more finesse to go with its looks and outstanding interior.
When you pull away it goes from zero to hero in a heartbeat and wheelspin on loose underfooting happens regularly. Switching to Eco Mode had a negligible effect but once you’re on your way things are more under control with smooth enough gear changes.
These are more calibration and software issues, that given the warp speed Chinese manufacturers’ quality has improved over the last few years, should easily be sorted.
Suspension is on the firm side, made more noticeable on a stretch of gravel road or when avoiding a gaping hole in the tar wasn’t possible. Perhaps the tyres were aired too hard but It’s certainly something Chery can look at to improve the overall drive.

The freshly facelifted BMW X5 doesn’t actually look that bad
Surprise! A BMW update that doesn’t make a car look worse. Although the less said about the X6 the better
BMW has given the X5 and X6 a mid-life update, and in a pleasing turn-up for the books it hasn’t messed it up.
It’s pretty standard facelift fare, if we’re honest. On the outside there are new bumpers front and rear on both models, plus a new grille (that can light up if you spec the M Sport Pro pack) and slimmer signature BMW lights. Standard X5s get new silver bits including roof rails and underbody protection, while those with the M Sport trim level or the top dog M60i powertrain get a special body kit that includes ‘an octagonal front-end signature’. Check it out on the X6 above.
There’s changes to the inside too, the most obvious being the introduction of BMW’s Curved Display and Operating System 8. In non-carmaker speak, that basically means a giant slab on the dash that merges a 12.3-inch dial display and a 14.9-inch infotainment display. BMW proudly states that the new setup “offers a significant reduction in the number of buttons and controls”. Not sure that’s something to boast about, folks.
There is still an iDrive controller though, and the facelift brings a new gear selector and refreshed ambient lighting. All trim levels get a ‘Comfort Pack’ as standard and all come with sports seats too.
So, let’s talk powertrains. Everything is now hybridised, so in X5 land you can have an xDrive30d, an M60i or an xDrive50e. The former is a straight-six diesel that has been updated for better efficiency and fitted with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for a total of 294bhp and 494lb ft of torque. The M60i also gets the 48-volt system, but it pairs the mild-hybrid tech with a 4.4-litre V8 for 523bhp and 553lb ft. The xDrive50e is a plug-in hybrid that pairs a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six with an electric motor and 25.7kWh battery. EV-only range now stands at an impressive 68 miles.
If you really do want an X6 then you can have the same 30d or M60i powertrains as the X5. You can’t have a plug-in hybrid, so instead there’s a mild-hybrid xDrive40i with a new-to-X6 straight-six petrol engine that makes 375bhp and 384lb ft of torque.
Orders are open now and UK cars should arrive in April this year. X5 prices will kick off from £66,230, while the updated X6 will start at £72,430. What do we think, Internet?

2024 Toyota Sequoia
Starting at $62.725
Highs Looks the part, hybrid powertrain promises gas savings without compromising power, hushed interior.
Lows Third row too snug for adults, feels extra wide out on the road, stowing the third-row seats results in an uneven cargo floor.
Verdict Its recent redesign brought the Sequoia into the 21st century, but it's still not as polished as segment leaders.
Overview
In a segment thick with big SUVs powered by V-8 engines, the Sequoia stands apart for its standard V-6 hybrid powertrain—a system that promises to save fuel without sacrificing performance. The 437-hp iForce MAX powertrain is shared with the Tundra Hybrid pickup truck—as are the rest of the Sequoia's underpinnings—and it's stout enough to tow and haul with the best of them. The cabin is outfitted nicely with all the expected tech goodies, and its rear seats are spacious enough for kids to get comfortable. Hauling adults back there is a different story, as the third row is altogether too cramped. Cargo space behind the third row is limited too and, unfortunately, dropping the rearmost seats to fit more stuff in the back is hindered by an uneven load floor with a high lift-over height. Rivals such as the Chevy Tahoe and the Ford Expedition are simply more practical and versatile. But if what you're looking for is an extra-large SUV with hybrid power, the Sequoia is a good—and your only—choice.
What's New for 2024?
The Limited Nightshade model joins the lineup for 2024 and comes with unique 20-inch TRD wheels painted in a matte black finish to match other blacked-out exterior appearance items. Platinum trims can now be had with the same TRD Off-Road package that was available on the Limited last year. The package adds an off-road suspension system with Bilstein shocks, a skid plate, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, off-road driving modes, a crawl control system, a hill-descent control function, and a few specific appearance items. Limited models with the TRD Off-Road package now also come with a blacked-out exterior appearance.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
SR5: $62,725
Limited: $69,125
Platinum: $75,315
Capstone: $79,715
TRD Pro: $80,560
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Sequoia comes standard with the iForce MAX hybrid powertrain that’s optional in the Tundra pickup. This powertrain is comprised of a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine and an electric motor that produce a total of 437 hp and 583 pound-feet of torque. The Tundra’s 10-speed automatic transmission carries over to the Sequoia SUV as well. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with four-wheel drive optional on most versions—and standard on the off-road-oriented TRD Pro model. The four-wheel-drive Sequoia Capstone we tested accelerated to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds and reached a quarter-mile in 14.3 seconds at 94 mph. That's quicker than the last GMC Yukon Denali we tested, but somewhat slower than the Ford Expedition Timberline. The TRD Pro also comes with off-road equipment such as upgraded Fox dampers, a front skid plate, a locking rear differential, and forged 18-inch wheels with 33-inch tires. During our initial test drive, we were pleased with the Sequoia's comfortable ride and quiet cabin, but less so with its on-road driving behavior. Its extra-wide feeling on the road makes it hard to place in a lane—something we've complained about in other large SUVs too—and its featherweight steering effort doesn't help. Its brake pedal also has an oddly squishy feel.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Sequoia’s large interior continues in this new generation, with a third row of seats as standard equipment. A second-row bench setup with an eight-passenger capacity is standard, with optional second-row captain’s chairs reducing the number of seats to seven. Headroom is limited in both of the rear rows, particularly when equipped with the optional panoramic sunroof. With a wide range of trim levels available, the interior appointments run the gamut from plain to fancy, and include cloth and leather upholstery and varying levels of wood and chrome trim as you walk up the price ladder. Higher trim levels offer features like heated-and- cooled second-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium stereo system. The Sequoia's cargo area isn't as accommodating as other rivals, however. With the rear seat in use there's only 12 cubic feet of cargo space out back, and folding the third row down doesn't result in a flat load floor.

2023 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
Highs Hypebeast-meets-aristocrat vibe, silky turbocharged powertrains, practically floats down the road.
Lows Not as recognizable as a Rolls-Royce, massive markup over the standard S-class, V-12 engine guzzles gas like a pickup truck.
Verdict As the ultimate Mercedes sedan, the Maybach S-class out-luxes everything else in the brand's portfolio—and well it should at this asking price.
Like those cars, the Maybach is designed to pamper every occupant, especially those in the rear, who are treated with options such as reclining seats with massage, a beverage cooler, and electrically operated doors. A standard air suspension virtually erases potholes, making it a peaceful place to close a multimillion-dollar deal or sip a glass of champagne on your way to the red carpet. And depending on how you customize it, the Maybach S-class can get you to your destination without attracting attention from paparazzi, or it can announce your arrival with hypebeast flair.
If you're gonna go with a Maybach version of the S-class, you might as well go big and get the S680 and its powerful V-12 engine. Standard features are of course plentiful and include luxury items such as soft-close doors, an air suspension, a 30-speaker Burmester stereo system, and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 11.6-inch touchscreens and much, much more.
The V-12's power rating is the same as the 2020 S650 model and does not benefit from a 48-volt hybrid system, but we haven't had a chance to test the new one yet. An air suspension and an active sound cancellation system are both standard in the new model, which helps the car deliver a silky, ultra-quiet ride; the S-class also offers rear-wheel steering which should help with navigating this big sedan through tight city streets.

2024 Audi S8
Starting at $121.695
Highs Potent twin-turbo V-8, deluxe cabin, agility-boosting rear-wheel steering.
Lows Not particularly fuel efficient, sedate styling, six-figure price tag.
Verdict The S8 combines sports sedan handling and luxury car splendor in a stealthy package.
Overview
Even though it wears a plus-size wardrobe, the 2024 Audi S8 handles curves like a much smaller sports sedan. Based on the A8 luxury sedan, the S8 ups the ante with trick performance features such as rear-wheel steering and a torque-vectoring rear differential to achieve handling heroics. On top of all that, it swaps the A8's V-6 for a twin-turbo V-8 with 563 horsepower. The roomy cabin is ideal for relaxing while covering long distances, so you get the best of both worlds. A host of high-tech features provides plenty of opportunity for connectivity, but if you want to tune out the outside world, there's no better way to do that than to open it up and let that V-8 sing. The S8's athleticism is rare in the large luxury sedan segment, and its only real competitors are the Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo and the Mercedes-AMG S63, both of which cost quite a bit more.
What's New for 2024?
Like the regular A8 sedan, the S8 gains an app-based remote-start feature for 2024 as well as a new suite of apps designed to improve access to entertainment and navigation. Otherwise, the S8 is unchanged for the 2024 model year.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
S8: $121,695
That six-figure starting price is steep, but the S8 comes well-equipped even by luxury car standards. We'd suggest the Comfort Plus package as it adds heated rear seats, a leather-wrapped dashboard, a head-up display, and fancier LED headlamps; the Executive package is also appealing and comes with blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and 21-inch wheels.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The S8's sole engine choice is a potent one: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine making 563 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and the transmission is an eight-speed automatic. Audi claims a top speed of 155 mph, and there are fuel-saving systems, too, including cylinder deactivation and a mild-hybrid setup with a small electric motor and battery. At our test track, the S8 blasted to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. An active suspension system can control each wheel individually to improve ride quality, and it is tuned differently than that of the standard A8, delivering improved cornering prowess thanks to reduced body roll. Audi also includes equipment such as a torque-vectoring rear differential and rear-wheel steering to increase agility; powerful carbon-ceramic brakes are optional.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Even though the S8 is technically a hybrid, buyers shouldn't expect Toyota Prius-level fuel efficiency. The EPA estimates that the best we can expect is 22 mpg on the highway, with the city rating dropping to just 13 mpg. Ouch. We haven't had the chance to test the S8 on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, but when we do, we'll update this story with the results. For more information about the S8's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Fine materials line nearly every square inch of the S8's cabin, including leather upholstery, a faux-suede headliner, and a stitched leather dash cover. The front seats offer standard heating, cooling, and massage, while the rear cabin offers tons of space for passengers to stretch out. To pamper those in the back seat even more, consider the Rear Seat Comfort package, which adds power-adjustable outboard seats with heat, ventilation, and massage, plusher headrests, heated armrests, and a remote control for the car's infotainment system. Four-zone automatic climate control is standard, as is a multi-color ambient interior lighting system. The trunk is generously sized and identical to that of the A8, which proved its mettle in our testing by holding six carry-on suitcases. For comparison the Mercedes-Benz S-class held 5 and the BMW 7-series just three.

2024 Aston Martin DBX
Starting at $200.086
Highs Stunning exterior and interior, great to drive for an SUV, wider bandwidth than other Astons.
Lows Regular model is slower than rivals, brake pedal is as soft as Charmin, where are all the modern driver assists?
Verdict The DBX has unique traits not found on other Astons—or most other SUVs, for that matter.
Overview
For those who covet an Aston Martin and can afford a six-figure SUV, the 2024 DBX checks both boxes. While its larger footprint and extra mass mean it's not nearly as satisfying to drive as the British brand's sports cars, the DBX offers things none of them do, such as an inhabitable back seat and towing ability. It has considerably more cargo space than the DBS or Vantage too. Of course, the high-riding Aston still delivers high performance thanks to its rowdy twin-turbo V-8, which makes either 542 or 697 horsepower. The higher figure applies to the sport-tuned DBX 707, which races to 60 mph in an impressive 3.1 seconds. Still, there are quicker alternatives that cost less, and the ultra-lux SUV should have more modern safety tech than it does. At least its richly appointed cabin and countless customizable options help its desirability, and there aren't many other SUVs that are as handsome as the 2024 Aston Martin DBX.
What's New for 2024?
The DBX lineup carries over unchanged for the 2024 model year.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
DBX: $200,086
DBX 707: $245,086
Aston Martin provides an impressive number of personalization options for the DBX, especially through its Q customization service. The company's online configurator shows several different appearance packages. We're partial to the standard DBX with the Accelerate interior theme, with its mix of leather and faux suede and the Sports Plus seats. On the outside, we'd choose the pretty Minotaur Green paint as well as the 22-inch black-and-bronze Ribbon wheels. We'd also opt for the tow package, the power tailgate, and the Sports Exhaust system that lets us better enjoy the engine's music.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The regular DBX is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine supplied by Mercedes-AMG. The engine makes 542 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque and pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission, also supplied by Mercedes. The DBX 707 features a revised version of the AMG powertrain that generates 697 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque. Its nine-speed automatic uses a wet-clutch pack instead of the torque converter used by the standard transmission. While the DBX is fundamentally rear-wheel drive, a center transfer case sends torque to the front axle when slippage is detected at the rear. It also has a limited-slip rear differential and can tow up to 5940 pounds. Adaptive dampers and height-adjustable air springs come standard on the Aston—a boon for off-road adventuring. The DBX we tested rushed to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, which is respectable for a hot SUV, but the Lamborghini Urus and other rivals are notably quicker. The DBX 707 was much quicker and hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. The version we drove on England's best roads showcased the engine's lusty soundtrack and the transmission's unobtrusive operation. Thanks to a diverse set of drive modes, its chassis demonstrated a broad range of demeanors, from refined and relaxed to responsive and playful. Despite its short 157-foot stop from 70 mph, the ute suffered from an unresponsive brake pedal.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The DBX shares a lot of its switchgear with the rest of the Aston Martin family. The cabin is covered in attractively stitched leather, soft-touch surfaces, and a microsuede headliner. The ute comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, customizable ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, and heated front and rear seats. Desirable options include ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a variety of even fancier cabin materials. Rear-seat space is ample, with plenty of knee and headroom for adults. There's a good amount of cargo volume, too, with 22 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat and 54 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

2024 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT / E-Hybrid
Starting at $153.050
Highs Savage powertrain, sports-sedan handling, luxurious interior.
Lows Sleek roofline absorbs some headroom and cargo space, ride caters too much to sportiness, no-fooling-around price.
Verdict The Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT is the white-hot exception to the idea that all SUVs are slow, boring, and handle like sleepy cattle.
Overview
Moving out of the way of the 650-hp Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT is an exercise in reaction time. The Turbo GT is a big two-row SUV with 22-inch wheels and a flurry of LED lighting, but more impressive is its 189 mph top speed and ability to reach 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds. An eight-speed automatic transmission handles the shifting, while its grippy all-wheel drive system, complete with rear-axle steering and torque vectoring, allows it to portray a good 911 sports car impression through canyon twisties. This level of performance doesn't come cheap: with a price tag just short of $200,000, the Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT is the gnarliest of the Cayenne SUV and Cayenne Coupe models, and its performance is unmistakable. The most powerful Cayenne ever, the 729-hp Cayenne Coupe Turbo E-Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid with 700 pounds of torque and some seriously rapid acceleration.
What's New for 2024?
Much has changed for the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT. Short of entering an all-new generation, the Cayenne gets a new front fascia with enlarged air intakes, different headlights, and more aggressive fenders. For the rear, revised taillights make the Cayenne Coupe Turbo appear as though it's using up even more of the road. Inside the cabin, a new 12.6-inch curved digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen using is tucked neatly into the dash. The gear selector now functions from a toggle switch that's been moved to the dash, freeing up additional storage space in the center console area. Similar to what's available on the all-electric Taycan sedan, a 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger is now available. The Cayenne Turbo GT gains 19 horsepower this year, pushing output to 650 horsepower. The 729-hp Cayenne Coupe Turbo E-Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid that Porsche says can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 183 mph. The PHEV now has a larger battery and a more powerful 11-kW onboard charger. All Cayenne Coupe Turbo E-Hybrid come standard with an adaptive air suspension that features a new two-valve and two-chamber unit. Porsche's Torque Vectoring Plus is now standard while Porsche Dynamic Chassis control and rear-axle steering are optional. The E-Hybrid comes with Porsche's new matrix-beam LED headlights as well. The normal nonhybrid Cayenne Turbo model has been dropped.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
E-Hybrid: $153,050
Turbo GT: $197,950
Just pick your favorite color. There's no wrong way to order the Turbo GT. It comes standard with Porsche's matrix LED headlights, carbon fiber roof, diffuser, and other bits and pieces, as well as 22-inch GT Design wheels.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT tears a hole through the atmosphere courtesy of a 650-hp twin-turbo V-8 with 626 pound-feet of torque, massive brakes, uniquely tuned suspension, and various lightweight components. The 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is the most powerful Cayenne yet. Power comes from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 gas engine with help from an electric motor for a total output of 729 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive are standard. We tested a 2023 Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT when it had 19 less horsepower than the 2024 model, and it blasted to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, making it the quickest SUV we've ever tested. We're certain the additional horsepower won't hamper its acceleration efforts, but we will update this space once we've tested a 2024 Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT. Porsche's quick-acting eight-speed automatic transmission handles gear changes and the Turbo GT is good for up to 189 mph. The Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT features the lowest ride height of any Cayenne, and its standard 22-inch wheels are wrapped in the stickiest tires. When we first sampled the Cayenne Turbo Coupe, we compared its handling with that of a big sports sedan. Driving enthusiasts will appreciate its eager and athletic nature. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), torque vectoring, and rear-axle steering all give the Cayenne Turbo Coupe a better way with roads.

2023 Rolls-Royce Cullinan
Starting at $355.000 est
Highs Soul-soothing comfort, tasteful opulence, buttery V-12 engine.
Lows Awkward proportions, standard rear seats lack modern amenities, this much money is too much money.
Verdict The Cullinan embodies the sort of dreamy grandeur and imposing presence that other luxury SUVs strive for but few achieve.
Overview
People refer to top-tier luxury items as the "Rolls-Royce of…" for a reason. The Cullinan is a big-body SUV powered by a silky-smooth twin-turbo V-12 with up to 592 horsepower. Built for absolute comfort and priced for the egregiously wealthy, the Cullinan coddles you with two rows of plush seating as lovely as leather couches. No other SUV has lambs-wool floor mats inside and a formidable hood ornament donning the outside. While its exterior is a little too London taxi for us, its cabin can be tailored to suit the wildest of tastes and the deepest of pockets. The Daddy Warbucks of SUV excellence has few competitors, but if a billionaire were forced to cross-shop, a Bentley Bentayga or Mercedes-AMG G63 might be a good place to start. Even then, they're no coach-door-swinging Cullinan.
What's New for 2023?
Rolls-Royce doesn't make any changes to the Cullinan for the 2023 model year.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Cullinan: $355,000 (est)
In the make-believe scenario that we could afford a Cullinan, we'd choose the Crystal paint scheme, the 22-inch seven-spoke wheels, the gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, and the electronic tow hitch. We'd spec the Immersive Seating with Center Console option, which gives the rear seats massage functionality and replaces the center seat with a console that doubles as a cooling bin with two champagne flutes and a whiskey decanter. And we wouldn't pass up the opportunity to have the fabric above our heads display a fiber-optic starry night sky via the Shooting Star Headliner. Finally, we'd add the rear privacy glass and side curtains to make the back row into a tranquil hideout.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Cullinan's twin-turbo 6.7-liter V-12 provides 563 horsepower (592 in the Black Badge model) and is whisper quiet, lest it disturb the VIPs in the cabin. The one we tested recorded a 60-mph time of just 4.5 seconds—impressive for a vehicle that weighs about three tons. All-wheel drive is standard, although we suspect buyers will never venture off the tarmac and risk damaging the paint. The Cullinan rides on an air suspension that receives information from a road-scanning camera and automatically adjusts the vehicle's height to compensate for imperfections in the pavement. Ride comfort is beyond the standards of regular luxury vehicles, as the Cullinan wafts down the road and transmits nothing unpleasant to the people inside.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The Cullinan's V-12 powertrain is rated at 12 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Believe it or not, those figures aren't the worst in the class. The V-12-powered Bentley Bentayga boasts ratings of 12 mpg city and 17 highway. We ran the Cullinan on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, and it outperformed expectations, achieving 21 mpg. For more information about the Cullinan's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The spacious cabin is lined in box-grain leather, lambs-wool carpeting, beautiful wood trim, and milled-aluminum accents. If you want an even higher level of luxury, Rolls-Royce will customize almost every part of the Cullinan's already lavish interior with whatever delights you can imagine. The only warts in this otherwise decadent space are the fully digital gauge cluster that lacks the elegance of an analog setup and the standard rear seating that's as inflexible as a park bench. At least buyers can rectify the latter issue by optioning the two-seat second row with adjustability and massage functions. The exterior is classic Rolls-Royce, but the vehicle's liftgate configuration allowed the brand to fit the cargo area with an optional Viewing Suite consisting of a pair of leather-wrapped seats and a small table that pop out of the floor.

2024 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
Starting at $195.000 est
Highs Hypebeast-meets-aristocrat vibe, silky turbocharged powertrains, practically floats down the road.
Lows Not as recognizable as a Rolls-Royce, massive markup over the standard S-class, V-12 engine guzzles gas like a pickup truck.
Verdict As the ultimate Mercedes sedan, the Maybach S-class out-luxes everything else in the brand's portfolio—and well it should at this asking price.
If you're gonna go with a Maybach version of the S-class, you might as well go big and get the S680 and its powerful V-12 engine. Standard features are of course plentiful and include luxury items such as soft-close doors, an air suspension, a 30-speaker Burmester stereo system, and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 11.6-inch touchscreens and much, much more.

2024 Land Rover Range Rover
Starting at $108.875
Highs Looks like money, polished and posh interior, plenty of powertrain options.
Lows Priced for the gods, plug-in hybrid limited to Autobiography trim, third-row space is tight.
Verdict Comfortable enough for a cross-continent tour and rugged enough for a trail ride, the Range Rover is a jack-of-all-trades SUV with a price tag to match.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
P400 SE: $108,875
P530 SE: $131,750
P550e Autobiography: $142,575
P530 Autobiography: $167,750
P615 SV: $210,475
We'd recommend opting for the mid-range Autobiography model, which adds several sought-after items that luxury buyers will appreciate. For example, the Autobiography comes standard with a 1600-watt Meridian stereo system featuring headrest-mounted speakers and active noise cancellation. The Range Rover will be offered in both short- and long-wheelbase body styles, and we suggest going for the latter since it creates room for a third row of seats and provides a more generous cargo area.

2023 Mercedes-AMG GT43 / GT53 / GT63
Starting at $93.550
Highs Bonkers acceleration from the V-8 models, exotic looks, high-end cabin appointments.
Lows Heart-stopping prices, snug rear-seat headroom, confusing infotainment interface.
Verdict With four-passenger room and awesome performance the AMG GT is the great white shark of luxury performance sedans.
Overview
The 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT sedan synthesizes performance and presence in a way that few four-doors can. Mechanically, it’s based on the E-class wagon not the GT sports car, but no matter—it behaves much the same as the two-seater. The inline-six in the GT43 and GT53 models have plenty of muscle but its the t
win-turbo V-8-powered GT63 models that are the apex predators of the lineup. Handling is satisfyingly sporty for such a large vehicle—and brilliant in the most aggressive models. The fact that you can bring three passengers along on your joy rides is an added plus. Despite the car's performance potential, it doesn't skimp on luxury; the interior is nicely tailored in fine materials and dotted with modern conveniences. Rear-seat headroom isn't as generous here as it is in the E63 sedan, but the GT's low fastback roofline offsets that deficit with a more exotic look.
What's New for 2023?
The V-8–powered GT63 and GT63 S models are back for 2023 after taking a year-long break. These high-performance variants of the GT sedan receive the same styling updates that the GT43 and GT53 models received last year. In addition, a range-topping GT63 S E-Performance model joins the lineup with a whopping 830-horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
GT43: $97,050
GT53: $107,850
GT63: $150,350
GT63 S: $171,500
We'd suggest going with the mid-range GT53, which offers plenty of horsepower and a pleasant driving experience. We'd add the Warmth and Comfort package, which adds a heated steering wheel, heated front armrests, and rapid-heating elements for the front seats. The Driver Assistance package is also appealing, as it adds a host of technologies including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Then again, we were seduced by the 630-hp GT63 S when we last drove it.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Under the hoods of both the GT43 and GT53 is a robust 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine that features a turbocharger, an intercooler, an electric supercharger, and a small electric motor. From a stop, the electric motor and supercharger fill in the brief lapse in torque delivery before the turbo is spinning out full boost. The 3.0-liter, which packs a combined 429 horsepower in the GT53, snaps necks whenever you touch the accelerator. In our testing the GT53, which features a conventional nine-speed automatic transmission, it accelerated to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and its sporty suspension delivered flat, responsive cornering and sports-car levels of grip. The GT63 and GT63 S are powered by a thunderous 4.0-liter V-8. It’s a technological tour de force with dry-sump oiling, direct injection, and two turbochargers mounted in its V. It's rated at 575 horsepower in the GT63, and cranked up to 630 horsepower in the GT63 S. These models also get a dual-clutch nine-speed automatic transmission and air suspension. In our testing, the GT63 S needed just 2.9 seconds to reach 60 mph. That's as quick as a Porsche Panamera Turbo. An even more powerful GT63 S E-Performance plug-in hybrid model has been confirmed for 2023 and uses a rear-mounted electric motor to boost combined horsepower to a 830 hp. Tarmac everywhere need be worried.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
While much of the GT's interior is shared with the other four-door coupe from Mercedes, the CLS, the large console between its seats appears to have been pulled from the GT sports car. It's a bit intrusive but makes for a sporty cockpit feel. The interior design overall is futuristic and visually exciting, but some of its ergonomics can take some getting used to. This is also a four-seater, which may be an issue for some families. Aggressively bolstered sport seats are standard and comfortable, while a fat and flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminum trim, and digital gauge cluster fit the sedan's high-performance mission.

Avatr 11 single-motor version from Changan, Huawei, and CATL launched in China
The single-motor version of the Avatr 11 has been officially launched in China. Offered in two trims, the new car is priced at 319,900 to 349,900 yuan ($46,560 – $50,930). According to the automaker, buyers can pick up the new car at Huawei stores from April 1. This is the first batch of models equipped with Huawei’s new-generation intelligent driving system.
The Avatr 11 is an all-electric mid-size SUV-coupe that stands on the EP1 platform. Changan, CATL, and Huawei jointly developed its smart platform called CHN. It is the first model from Avatr. A dual-motor version was launched in August 2022, and both versions share a lot in common in terms of size and interior.
The Avita 11 single-motor version is equipped with 34 smart driving sensors and high-speed NCA as standard and is equipped with Huawei’s full-stack smart car solutions. The major difference between both versions is the acceleration time. The dual-motor version (3.98 seconds) accelerates faster than the single-motor version (6.6 seconds). Also, the electric tailgate is absent on the single-motor version
Since its release in August 2022, the Avatr 11 has been the top-selling BEV above 300,000 yuan in China based on insurance registration data. In February, the Avatr 11 sold more copies than the Nio ES7, Xpeng G9, BYD Tang EV, and Nio EC6. In the premium BEV SUV segment, it was only behind the Nio ES6 and BMWiX3, claiming 11.70% of the market share.
The 11’s exact dimensions are 4880/1970/1601 mm with a wheelbase of 2975 mm. In terms of size, it is close to the Voyah Free and the NIO EC6. The Avatr 11 gets a 4- and 5-seat layout and rides on 21-inch wheels.
On both sides of the closed front face are unique headlights. In the seemingly simple front of the car, a large number of sensors such as semi-solid-state lidar, millimeter wave radar, ultrasonic radar, and camera are hidden. The assisted driving ability of the single-motor version is consistent with that of the dual-motor version.
Avatr 11 single-motor version interior
The interior of the Avatr 11 is modern and hip. Its center console has three screens. The main monitor’s diameter is 15.6 inches. Voice and gesture control are some benefits of this system. As for the instrument panel and the passenger screen, they both are 10.25 inches. The Avatr 11 also gets a hexagonal sporty steering wheel.
Another feature of the Avatr 11 is its sound system. It comprises 14 speakers and a 12-channel power amplifier. It is also equipped with RNC (Road Noise Cancelation) and ASE (Active Sound Enhancement) systems.
The Avita 11 single-motor version is equipped with Huawei’s DriveONE electric drive system and has a maximum power of 230 kW and a max torque of 370 Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds. While the base version is equipped with a 90kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, the top trim has a 116kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, corresponding to a cruising range of up to 600 kilometers and 705 kilometers, respectively.
The Avita 11 single-motor version is equipped with a full-stack high-voltage 750V electrical platform as standard, with a maximum charging power of 240kW. With this, owners can get up to 200 km cruising range after charging for 10 minutes. In addition, the Avita 11 single-motor version is equipped with CATL’s ternary lithium battery.
About Avatr
Avatr is a joint project between Changan New Energy, CATL, and Huawei. In 2018, Avatr was launched as a joint venture between Changan and NIO. Later, NIO withdrew from the JV. CATL replaced NIO as the second biggest shareholder. Right now, Changan holds 40.99% of shares, and CATL owns 17.1%. We should underline that Huawei has no shares in Avatr. It only takes care of Avatr cars’ hardware and software for intelligent driving, connectivity, and infotainment. Huawei also supplies electric motors and some other parts. Recently, Avatr announced it would cooperate with U.K. oil giant BP to create a fast-charging network in China.

2023 Genesis G90
Starting at $90.100
Highs Heavenly ride quality, hushed cabin, generous standard luxury features.
Lows Fuel-economy ratings are lower than other V-6 rivals, handling could be more entertaining, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren't wireless.
Verdict The redesigned G90 has stepped up its luxury game while still managing to undercut key rivals on price.
Overview
Genesis's most luxurious model, the G90 sedan, has received a dramatic redesign for the 2023 model year that brings it into the modern era. Exterior styling is inspired by the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV but with a few unique touches that symbolize the G90's place at the top of the company's model hierarchy. A twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 is under the hood as the standard powertrain and it makes a stout 375 horsepower. Rather than the 5.0-liter V-8 that was an upgrade engine in the 2022 model, a 409-hp version of the twin-turbo V-6 is offered, and it uses an electric supercharger to increase its output. Both powertrains are smooth and quiet, which helps the G90's cabin remain a relaxing place, designed to pamper occupants with a plethora of unexpected features. For example, an on-board fragrance diffuser can fill the space with a relaxing scent while an air purifier works to prevent odors from outside from filtering in. Standard power-operated doors serve as your own built-in valet, and all G90 models come decked out with nappa leather upholstery, genuine wood trim, and massaging front seats.
What's New for 2023?
The G90 has received a complete overhaul for 2023 that modernizes it and brings the flagship luxury sedan's styling in line with the rest of the Genesis lineup.

Base: $90,100
E-supercharged: $99,795
The G90 continues its value-focused strategy of undercutting the Mercedes-Benz S-class, but its starting price has increased significantly over the 2022 model. The G90 is essentially loaded with all manner of technology and luxury features, so the only choices are exterior and interior colors and to pick from the base turbo V-6 or the more powerful turbocharged and supercharged version. Of course, we'd pick the latter. Going with the E-supercharged model also maxes out the G90's features, with reclining rear seats with heat, ventilation, and massage.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The G90 has ditched its 5.0-liter V-8 engine this year in favor of a twin-turbocharged V-6 that's offered in two potencies; both are paired to an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The standard engine makes 375 horsepower but the E-supercharged model makes 409 ponies and uses the 48-volt hybrid system and an electric supercharger to boost the output from the twin-turbo V-6. With the higher-output engine under its hood, the G90 rocketed to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, which is an impressively quick time for such a large sedan. An air suspension is optional, and the G90 features a Chauffeur driving mode intended to create an extra-smooth experience for passengers. Our first test drive was with a G90 that featured the more powerful of the two powertrains and the air springs, which delivered a superb ride and effortless acceleration. Handling isn't sports-sedan crisp, but the G90 holds its own in corners. Enthusiast drivers won't find much in the way of driving thrills, but those who buy the G90 for its relaxing demeanor will find themselves satisfied.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Like the exterior, the G90's cabin gets an overhaul for 2023 too, with a fresh design and posh materials that will help it go head to head with rivals such as the Audi A8 and the BMW 7-series. Passenger space is generous in both the front and the back seats, and Genesis has incorporated several features intended to take the luxury experience up a notch. An onboard fragrance diffuser, for example, and an anti-microbial sanitation system that cleans both the air and items that are brought into the car such as smartphones. Of course, features such as massaging front seats and a premium stereo system are also included. All models come with soft, nappa leather upholstery, power-operated rear sunshades, and active noise cancellation to keep the cabin whisper quiet. The rear seats can be made to recline and can also be equipped with massagers.

Power & Sound. Outstanding Performance.
After the installation of two high-performance turbochargers and other modifications, the BRABUS 800 four-liter, twin-turbo eight-cylinder engine produces a peak output of 588 kW / 800 hp (789 bhp) at 6,600 rpm. Simultaneously, peak torque grows by 150 Nm (111 lb-ft): An impressive 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) are on tap at a low 3,300 rpm. We exclusively use hi-tech lubricants from technology partner Motul for the entire powertrain.
The road performance of the BRABUS 800 is accordingly superior for a vehicle of this kind: From rest, the new BRABUS supercar sprints to a speed of 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.1 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 240 km/h (150 mph).
The superior performance is complemented by a thrilling exhaust note: Thanks to an integrated actively controlled exhaust flap, the BRABUS stainless sport exhaust system with two black chromed side pipes on each vehicle side offer an electronically controlled sound management with a choice between a discreet "Coming Home" mode or a markedly sporty V8 sound.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class
Starting at $63.800
Highs Spacious first and second-row seats, high-tech features abound, offers some legit off-road capability.
Lows Stiff ride on larger wheels, snug passenger space in the optional third row, unlocking the best features requires a big investment.
Verdict The GLE-class's premium cabin and plentiful tech features bolster its luxury status, but it doesn't stand out among similarly desirable rivals.
Overview
If you're a die-hard Mercedes-Benz customer, the 2024 GLE-class SUV has the panache and features you're familiar with, but rival SUVs in the mid-size segment are closely matched. The Benz is handsome and tech-forward with a quartet of available powertrains that run the gamut from a simple turbo inline-four to a twin-turbo V-8. A monolithic dashboard display provides almost as much digital real estate as Times Square, which is either impressive or annoying depending on your tastes. In contrast to rivals like the Genesis GV80 and the Volvo XC90, the Mercedes offers more off-road capability when equipped with an optional air suspension that can provide more ground clearance or even shimmy the GLE to-and-fro to help extract itself from sand or mud.
What's New for 2024?
A facelift and new plug-in hybrid powertrain are the headlines for the 2024 GLE-class SUV. The GLE450e model joins the lineup with a turbocharged four-cylinder and electric motor combo that should provide enough electric driving range to avoid using gasoline on short trips around town. The GLE-class's exterior styling is lightly altered for 2024, including a revised front bumper design, an updated grille, new lighting elements, and restyled wheels. A new steering wheel has been added with touch-sensitive controls on the spokes. Updated chrome trim around the air vents and new two-tone upholstery options have been added to the options sheet. The GLE-class also features the second generation of Mercedes' MBUX infotainment interface, which now includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
GLE350: $63,800
GLE450: $70,650
GLE450e: $70,650
GLE580: $87,850
After driving two of the four available powertrains, we'd suggest sticking with the entry-level turbocharged four-cylinder GLE350 model. Even though it's the least powerful option, it moves the GLE with enough authority to satisfy most drivers, and it returned the best fuel economy in our testing. With the money saved by selecting the base model, we'd splurge on the Premium package (Burmester audio system, 360-degree camera, and 115-volt household-style power outlet) as well as the Warmth and Comfort package (heated front armrests and upper door panels). We'd also add heated seats in the second row and four-zone climate control, both of which are standalone options.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Models wearing the GLE350 badge are powered by a 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine with either rear- or all-wheel drive (4Matic in Mercedes parlance) and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Stepping up to the GLE450 brings standard all-wheel drive and a 362-hp powertrain that consists of a turbocharged inline-six. Both the GLE350 and GLE450 utilize 48-volt hybrid systems. The GLE450e's plug-in hybrid powertrain comprises a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor that combine for a total of 381 horsepower. The GLE350 we tested took 6.6 seconds to reach 60 mph, and the six-cylinder GLE450 managed a 5.3-second time. While the souped-up Mercedes-AMG GLE53 (reviewed separately) brings even more heat, the Benz-branded GLE580 represents the most powerful and expensive non-AMG model. Here, a 48-volt system combines with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 to make up to 504 horsepower. Every GLE can be outfitted with an advanced air-suspension system that can lean into corners and even wiggle itself loose if the driver gets it stuck in sand or mud. The standard setup is traditional steel springs and anti-roll bars.

2023 BMW XM
Starting at $159.995
Highs High-end cabin finishings, big-power twin-turbo V-8, reasonable amount of electric driving range.
Lows Love-it-or-hate-it styling, ride could be more composed, other performance SUVs are quicker.
Verdict When you set BMW's M division loose to create a bespoke performance SUV, the end result is a large crossover that can almost keep pace with an M3.
Overview
BMW's M performance division, purveyor of land rockets like the M3 and M5 sedans, has dropped a hot-rod SUV on the tall-speedster class. Slotting above the three-row X7 in BMW's SUV lineup, the new XM is an all-new two-row crossover with serious sporting intentions. The 2023 XM's styling is inspired by the XM Concept from 2021. Although toned down, it's still an aggressive design with gaping kidney-shaped grille openings, stacked tailpipes, and a slightly sloped roof that hints at a fastback shape. Under the hood is a 644-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain that gets its muscle from a twin-turbocharged V-8. About 30 miles of electric-only driving should be possible with a fully charged battery but it's the XM's performance potential that has our interest piqued.
What's New for 2023?
The XM is a new model for the BMW lineup and is slated to appear in showrooms in early 2023.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
XM: $159,995
The XM's starting price is high, but it does come loaded with luxury features, including leather upholstery, huge 23-inch wheels, a cool curved infotainment display, and a host of driver-assistance features. A limited-edition Label Red model will join the lineup for the 2024 model year, and BMW says it'll offer an even more powerful 738-hp version of the XM's powertrain to accompany its unique interior and exterior styling elements.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
A twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 isn't new to the BMW powertrain portfolio but in the XM it's partnered with an electric motor and a battery pack to create a whopping 644 horsepower. During our first test drive, we noted the powertrain's immediate punch and estimated that it should get the XM to 60 mph in about 3.8 seconds, but when we got it on our home turf for testing, it surprised us with a 3.4-second leap to 60 mph. That puts the XM at a disadvantage—albeit only a slight one—when compared to other performance SUVs such as the Lamborghini Urus and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, both of which delivered zero-to-60-mph times of 3.2 seconds in our testing. The XM uses a coil-spring suspension system that's augmented by adaptive dampers and active anti-roll bars. The result isn't as compliant and composed as it would be had BMW chosen to offer an air suspension, but in the Comfort driving mode, the ride is far from punishing. When set to Sport, the XM's handling is responsive and eager which makes it good fun on a twisty road.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The XM's 25.7-kWh battery pack is said to be good for about 30 miles of electric-only range per charge, and we managed to get close in our testing with a result of 29 miles. BMW says the XM's onboard charger is capable of juicing the battery at up to 7.4 kW and should be able to charge up to 100 percent in a little over three hours.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA says the XM is good for only 12 mpg city and 17 mpg highway despite its status as a plug-in hybrid. On our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, the XM bested its EPA estimate by returning 20 mpg when going solely by its gasoline engine; when factoring in the 29 miles or so we drove on electric power its result is an even more palatable 49 MPGe. For more information about the XM's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Infotainment and Connectivity
A large, curved display stretches across two-thirds of the dashboard. The display serves as both a digital gauge cluster as well as an on-board infotainment center, and It runs BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 software interface. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and additional features such as SiriusXM satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a premium stereo system are included as well.

2024 BMW X6
Starting at $74.895
Highs Smooth ride with sporty handling, impressive performance, attractive cabin.
Lows Sleeker roofline costs cargo space, overwhelming settings in infotainment menu, M60i is a significant leap in price.
Verdict The X6 spoils its passengers with a refined ride, strong engines, and a cozy interior, but its sloped roof compromises its SUV practicality.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The X6 40i is powered by a 375-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that features a 48-volt hybrid system and pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The M60i has the same transmission and all-wheel drive but its twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 is significantly more powerful. Its 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque helped it rocket to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds at our test track. What's even more shocking is that the X6 M has up to 617 horsepower and is even quicker. Still, the standard six-cylinder powertrain is plenty zippy and velvety smooth. Both the X6 40i and M60i also have standard adaptive dampers and wheel sizes that range from 20 to 22 inches. Our test of the V-8-powered X6 revealed its impressive cornering grip and stopping power. Although its suspension is firmer than the setup found on the six-cylinder X6 we tested, it was never punishing. We also appreciated its adjustable steering heft and hushed interior at cruising speed.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Unsurprisingly, the X6's interior looks and feels like most other new BMW products. That means upscale materials and soft-touch surfaces abound, and two large 12.3-inch digital displays dominate the dashboard. While the instrument panel looks slick, the gauges are a confusing mess. Thankfully, the optional head-up display is more straightforward. The rest of the switchgear is also smartly laid out. BMW's gesture controls—which enable you to control certain functions such as audio volume by waving your hand in front of the infotainment screen—are included but unnecessary. Plenty of standard amenities are offered, too, including 16-way power-adjustable front seats, customizable ambient lighting, heated front cushions, and passive entry.

2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Starting at $84.475
Highs Handsome exterior design, high-end interior finishes, agreeable mix of comfort and sport.
Lows Jumpy throttle response on V-8 model, peculiar infotainment interface takes getting used to, high starting price.
Verdict The latest Range Rover Sport perpetuates the nameplate's luxurious pedigree and adds more modern tech and a fresh look.
Overview
If you're looking for a vehicle that combines off-road capability, luxury accommodations, and the status of an upper-crust image something from Land Rover's top-shelf Range Rover lineup should do just fine. But if your budget is slightly less elastic, the 2023 Range Rover Sport is an alternative that's nearly as satisfying. Despite its smaller dimensions, the Sport has a similar silhouette to the more expensive Range Rover—but with an added dose of attitude. A trio of powertrains, including a hybrid inline-six, a plug-in hybrid inline-six, and a mega-power twin-turbo V-8 gives you a good variety of choices. The cabin is premium and fitted with desirable tech, including Land Rover's latest Pivi Pro infotainment system and driver-assistance features to help with both on- and off-road driving. All this prestige doesn't come cheap, though, and the Range Rover Sport's starting price is higher than other deluxe SUVs such as the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE-class, and Volvo XC90. But make no mistake, the Sport earns its place in the Range Rover lineup honestly and for several reasons, not the least of which is this: it looks like money.
What's New for 2023?
Like the larger Range Rover, the mid-size Range Rover Sport has received a full redesign that includes fresh styling, a revamped cabin, and cutting-edge tech. An all-electric Range Rover Sport EV will enter the market next year as a 2024 model.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
P360 SE: $84,475
P400 SE Dynamic: $91,475
P440 eAutobiography: $105,675
P530 First Edition: $122,975
We think the more powerful SE Dynamic is the trim to go with. Its extra horsepower will undoubtedly give it a bit of a boost both around town and on the highway and it offers a litany of luxury and convenience features without requiring a six-figure bill.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The entry-level engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that employs a 48-volt hybrid system and makes 355 horsepower in the P360 SE and 395 horsepower in the P400 SE Dynamic. When we tested the P360 SE, it needed only 5.7 seconds to hit 60 mph but felt more sluggish than that around town where full-throttle launches aren't an appropriate activity. Our test vehicle delivered peerless ride quality though, which was appreciated over the broken tarmac near our Michigan headquarters. A plug-in hybrid P440e setup is exclusive to the fancy Autobiography trim and pairs an electric motor to the inline-six for a combined 434 horsepower. The juiciest cut can be found in the P530 First Edition, which comes only with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine that pumps out a robust 523 horsepower. Land Rover estimates the V-8 will motivate the Range Rover Sport to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive, and an adjustable air suspension. The Range Rover Sport can also be had with an optional performance driving setup called Stormer Handling Pack, which adds rear-wheel steering and torque-vectoring systems. During our initial test drive of the V-8 model, we found the throttle response on our V-8–powered test vehicle to be too jumpy and difficult to operate smoothly. Otherwise, we were impressed with the Range Rover Sport's blend of comfort and athleticism and noted that its rear-wheel steering system made maneuvering in tight spaces less challenging than in other similarly-sized SUVs.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The interior design has taken a more minimalist approach this time around, with a reduction in the number of buttons and switches and a more streamlined appearance throughout the cabin. Buyers can choose from either textile or genuine leather upholstery in attractive two-tone designs. The dark-tinted chrome accents look particularly premium. Power-adjustable front seats are standard but a set of chairs with up to 22 ways of adjustability as well as massage, ventilation, and winged headrests is optional. An integrated air purification system is available and is said to reduce odors, bacteria, viruses, and allergens from the cabin.

Greetings from Turkey
With a car brand relatively unknown to many, of course, it’s all about value for money. ‘What do I get for my euros?’ We do not yet have a final Dutch retail price for the Togg T10X, but we can tell you what the car costs in Turkey. Prices in Turkey start at 953,000 TRY, which is about 47,500 euros, including including 18% VAT and 10% special user tax. This price applies to the base model with rear-wheel drive.
There is a choice of two battery sizes and two equipment levels. A more powerful version with all-wheel drive will be launched in Turkey in late October 2023. The rear-wheel-drive model with 160 kW (218 hp) is available from launch as the V1 base model and the V2 version with more extensive equipment.
52.4 kWh or 88.5 kWh battery
Both versions have a 52.4 kWh battery, good for a range of 314 km (WLTP) and an average energy consumption of 16.7 kWh/100 km. The rear-wheel-drive, V2-equipped model also becomes available with a larger 88.5 kWh battery, which enables a range of 523 km (WLTP). The energy consumption of that variant is 16.9 kWh/100 km.
fast charging
The T10X has a charging capacity of up to 150 kW, allowing users to charge the smaller battery from 20 percent to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes with a powerful HPC charger. The car will be built on an all-new platform with independent MacPherson struts in the front and a fully independent multilink suspension in the rear. The design is the result of a collaboration between the Togg Design Studio and the Pininfarina design house.
Tulip plays lead role at Togg T10X
The tulip – one of the deep-rooted symbols of Anatolian lands – plays a prominent role in the modern design theme of the T10X. It is evident throughout the vehicle, the front grille, the alloy wheels and in the modern interior.
Colors inspired by Turkey
Paint options are inspired by the enchanting natural beauty of Turkey. Gemlik-blue reflects the crystal-clear waters in the region where Togg’s Technology Campus is located, Anatolia reflects the kindness and passion in the red Anatolian soil, and the striking blackness of Oltu stone is known for its glossy texture and solid structure. The natural texture of Kula reflects the gray splendor of its long-standing history, Cappadocia is a sandy beige that reflects the earthy textures of its extraordinary natural wonders, and Pamukkale is the dazzling white limestone, also found in Turkey.
Driver assistance systems
Togg provides various driver assistance systems. Seven airbags are standard, as are an environmental camera, blind spot assist, driver attention assist, heavy traffic pilot, front cross traffic alert and automatic parking assist.
Infotainment in the Togg T10X
The T10X features infotainment technology based on Snapdragon Digital Cockpit Platform. Standard on all models is a 12-inch digital instrument display, a 29-inch centrally located smart touchscreen and an in-vehicle camera that can be turned on and operated by voice. This allows the driver to safely take selfies and upload them hands-free to their social media platforms.
Users have access to a 4G Internet connection and WiFi hotspots so they can stay connected on the go. The center console contains acceleration and electronic handbrake controls reminiscent of the cockpit of an airplane. The user-friendly touchscreen interface supports the minimalist interior design by reducing the typical buttons and switches and encouraging users to use the Trumore Voice Assistant for the most frequently used functions.
TruStore online app
Togg’s TruStore online app store offers a range of in-house apps and third-party apps to enhance the user experience in the Trumore smart-ecosystem, including Togg’s online navigation app Trumore Go, which integrates commonly used services such as coffee shops, grocery stores and e-commerce sites with instant payments through its built-in e-wallet.
The V1 package also includes the Trumore Smart Life app that allows Togg users to control all smart devices from one app, including those used at home. The Trumore Voice Assistant allows the driver to control all infotainment functions. Coupling the speech feature with an AI engine puts text in context and allows for better speech-driven interactions.

2023 Bentley Bentayga
Starting at $200.025
Highs Wide range of available powertrains, well-tailored cabin, comes standard with unbeatable prestige.
Lows Sky-high price tag, offers few standard driver-assists, not the prettiest Bentley.
Verdict The Bentayga takes the traditional Bentley experience and translates it into one of the classiest SUVs on the market.
Overview
If your two-car garage already has a Bentley Continental GT coupe or convertible nestled into one of the bays, the other could be filled by a matching Bentayga SUV. Why? For one thing, the Bentayga makes for a more practical daily driver and can seat a family. It can be equipped with a plug-in-hybrid powertrain for those necessary commutes when gas prices are peaking, but can also be had with a twin-turbo V-8 or a mighty twin-turbo W-12. The Bentayga's luxury experience is much the same as you'll get in the Conti or the Flying Spur sedan, with rich leathers, tasteful wood and metal trim, and plenty of tech features throughout its cabin. Of course, if you're not particularly brand loyal, this six-figure segment of ultra-luxe SUVs also includes the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, both of which would also make fine sidekicks to a luxury grand touring car.
What's New for 2023?
An extended-wheelbase body style has been added to the Bentayga lineup for 2023. The longer body allows for more space in the rear seat so passengers can stretch out and relax. This model comes with a rear-wheel steering system which helps shrink the SUV's turning radius. It also features Bentley's new Diamond Illumination ambient lighting system which shines lights through hand-stitched leather panels. The rear seats can recline up to 40 degrees and there’s a footrest that extends from the back of the front passenger seat so that the right rear rider can kick their feet up. The rear seats can be had with massaging functions and your choice of a full-length center console or a middle seat. Two additional plug-in hybrid options join the lineup this year in posh Azure and sporty S guise. Both of the new hybrid trims offer slightly more power and more electric-only driving range than the standard PHEV model at 455 horsepower and 27 miles of range. A limited-edition Odyssean model is available for 2023 as well and comes only with the hybrid powertrain; just 70 units will be made, all with environmentally-friendly interior materials including open-pore Koa wood and tweed upholstery.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Hybrid: $200,025
V-8: $200,025
S Hybrid: $228,225
Extended Wheelbase V-8: $229,625
S V-8: $233,825
Azure Hybrid: $234,025
Azure V-8: $239,625
Odyssean Edition: $242,025
Extended Wheelbase Azure V-8: $266,225
Speed: $267,325
We like the V-8 model best. Even though the Speed's powerful W-12 engine is silky smooth and effortlessly powerful, its price premium over the V-8 is substantial. We'd suggest sticking with the eight-cylinder model and adding some niceties to it, such as the adaptive suspension, the rear-seat entertainment system, and the 20-speaker Naim stereo. And choosing the Touring Specification package will give you a suite of driver-assistance features. If you're looking to maximize luxury for your rear-seat passengers, go with the extended-wheelbase model, which provides additional legroom and more rear-seat amenities.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Bentley offers a variety of powertrains for the Bentayga. On the low end, you have a 443-hp hybrid arrangement with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 and an electric motor; Azure and S hybrids offer a slightly more powerful 455-hp version of the electrified powertrain. Then there's the 542-hp twin-turbo V-8 engine. The V-8 emits a hearty burble on its way to 60 mph, which it does in just 3.5 seconds. The Bentayga Speed ups the ante with a 626-hp W-12. Back in 2017, when the Speed made 600 ponies, this supersmooth powerhouse delivered a 3.6-second result in our 60-mph test.
