Jim & Barbara | Plot Line Sonia Joie 2022-12-29 | ♫ Baby don’t you worry, I’ll be fine. You were good for the plot line. ♫A video!!! Yay! It’s been so long since I’ve had the time and energy to edit, and I’m really glad inspiration struck while I’m on break from work for the holidays. I’m still very excited about editing Gotham, so here’s a new one for the collection. Not what I was expecting to make next, certainly. (Still waiting on finishing my Bruce/Selina vid honestly, but it’s too sad so I never wanna work on it lol).As I’ve probably mentioned before, I want to edit like everything for this show—all my favorite ships as well as underrated characters and dynamics. That said, I surprised myself here because Barbara and Gordon were always really boring to me?? And therefore not something I planned on editing haha. Even as individuals, let’s be real. I always found Jim to be very dull (he doesn’t make it onto my list of faves... sorry, good fellow... though he's 10x more interesting around Lee), and Barbara really annoyed me. Until season 5, at which point I realized I’d begun to love her. She grows on you and then S5 hits and you’re like YES SHE ROCKS. There was a real change in the later half of the show, for the better, with her. I honestly think it’s the fact that she got over Jim so much which made her more interesting—as well as her developing more of a character outside of “I’m crazy.” (In my opinion the writers rarely knew what to do with her.) Though I still take crazy Barbara over season 1 Barbara. XD I also think her relationship with Tabby was a big part of her growing and becoming more likable. They had a good dynamic— and unlike in previous relationships, Barbara wasn’t constantly afraid of being abandoned, which was very sweet. But anyway—Barbara and Jim.As per the song: while they weren’t meant for each other, they were both pivotal in the direction of each other’s lives, whether they like it or not. So that’s the idea I was editing from here, and I wanted to show how their relationship changes over time, too :) I also wanted to capture like... the feeling of what they almost were? Should've been? I think there could've been such an epic back-and-fourth, and while we got some of that, I think the show could've leaned into it more. Anyway! After making this vid I actually have more of an appreciation for their dynamic, which again I think really peaked in the last season 👌🏽. (Though the scene in Jim’s office was absolutely a plot device lol.) All I Need | Ink/Pa [BBS] Sonia Joie 2022-10-24 | ♫ All the moments in between, yeah that is all I need. ♫This past week I watched “Bad Buddy” for the first time, and it was fully because I saw a gifset on Tumblr of these two being cute. (It was the “anyone tall” scene xD). They’re side characters and most of their story develops near the end of the series, but the whole show (which is all gay, so if you felt let down for a minute there, don’t be lol) is definitely worth a watch and gave me lots of smiles and laughs. I definitely wanna make a video for Pat & Pran some time if I can think of a song for those guys.And to anyone whose interested in checking out the show I’ll give you the same run-down someone on tumblr gave me, which is that if you haven’t seen any Thai dramas before, be prepared the most hilarious and obvious product placements you’ve ever seen. (I swear they make whole scenes around the objects lol. Don’t worry they’re actually good scenes though.) And also be prepared for there to be sound effects and stuff. (I got used to that bit fairly quick, probably cause of having seen anime.) Anyway the show is a comedy-drama with a Romeo/Juliet [minus the death] feuding family, forbidden love plot—with characters that begin as enemies. The best way I can think to describe it is that it reminds me of peak fanfiction?? Anyway it’s free to watch on YT and that’s a blessing. Lmk if y’all want a link!Also this coloring isn’t exactly perfect but that’s because it was showing up differently in Premiere than after export, regardless of my export settings, so I went through a ridiculous amount of steps to approximate the look I originally had. It could probably use some more fiddling but I’ve spent too many hours on it alreadyyy. Same goes with the general editing—it hardly played through so when I went to do the detail work and the effects and movement, I couldn’t see what I was doing half the time. So it’s not as smooth as I’d prefer (y’all know by now that I’m a perfectionist haha), but I did the best I could under the circumstances! Plus not wanting to sit for long periods of time, which, fair.) I’ve tried a few times though, yet had gotten kinda mentally blocked on each occasion, which got me down, so I’m honestly so happy I was able to make this. Finally! And in one day no less?? My vidder heart is thrilled, you don’t even know :) YAY FOR INSPIRATION AND SIMPLE PROJECTS. Also—yay, more Gotham! Ed & Oswald | sorry about your car Sonia Joie 2022-06-08 | ♫ Should I have cut the brakes, or is that too far? ♫So I finished watching Gotham recently! (A Batman fan that only just watched Gotham?? Le gasp.) What a great show it was overall. And I thought they did a wonderful job bringing life to some characters that I hadn’t been interested in before—such as Penguin, who I ADORE this version of. There’s multiple edits I would love to make (and yes that will include multi-shipping so ‘don’t like don’t watch’ I guess) but I decided to start with Ed and Oswald because 1) they are WOnDeEfUl and 2) this was the first song idea I got. XD I have mixed feelings on the finale so I didn’t use much of that, just one quick clip. But yeah these two are great and this vid is kind of about how they’re frequently at odds, yet totally care about each other.I’m quite pleased with how this turned out on the whole, and it was nice to do some fancier stuff again. But excuse the varying vid quality—for some reason my editor just doesn’t export right anymore, especially with fancy effects and lots of layers and ESPECIALLY on anything that danes to have an opacity other than 100%. Which is a lot of my fading text and lighting effects. So basically it exported terribly and stripped out most of my effects, so I had to take a screencap. Then crop off the black bars from said screencap. While I was at it I stitched the cap together with the exported vid, in order to keep as many parts HD as was possible. So yeah. It wasn’t *as bad* as Watching Over Me, but still annoying and I had to do a similar roundabout fix. Ah well! But anyway,,,,, I hope you guys enjoy this! This one is a tribute to the one and only Jethro, from Doctor Who. Dean & Cas | Watching Over Me Sonia Joie 2021-12-10 | ♫ Didn't hear the strength within your words and what they mean; you were watching over me ♫This song has always screamed Dean & Cas to me, but Misha's recent confirmation that yes, one of Jensen's songs was written about them (and who are we kidding it's this one)—well that was the final inspiration for me to make this edit. IT'S ABOUT THEM. AHH. Okay anyway. This took me a weirdly long time to edit, and then a ridiculous amount of time to export. The video was done three days ago but I only just got a decent export, which is actually a combination of one regular export that was pieced together with two screencaps and some re-added overlay effects. (Exporting regularly was giving me major, weird glitches, hence the work-arounds.) It's probably not as 'flawless' as it was in my editing program, but it's pretty much a perfect match so I don't care. Yay to finally being able to upload it! Season 15 - The Road So Far (for ep. 19) Sonia Joie 2021-07-09 | A little while after Supernatural ended, my mom offered to watch the show with my sister and I. We never expected that in a million years (mostly because it's so long lol) so of course we agreed. The rewatch has actually helped patch my soul up a lot—at least up until S15, where I've felt more and more dread as it's progressed... But that said, we're a couple episodes from the end, and I remembered the other day that there's no road so far! Like, regardless of where your canon ends. Because the one thing we thought we could count on was still too high a bar, I guess. (My sister and I are stopping at episode 19. My mom is going to watch ep. 20—by herself, because I'm not traumatizing myself AGAIN—just to see what all the outcry is about. Despite being warned. Rip, may she not be destroyed.) I think the Long Road Home documentary was supposed to "stand in" for a recap, but that reallyyy doesn't count. Long story short, S15 doesn't have a road so far, and I wanted one, so I made it! It may be my least favorite season, but it still deserves a wayward recap. Oh, also this edit is made to be watched in place of the "then" on episode 19, Inherit the Earth. I've been working on this for the last couple days, and it turned out to be a really intensive editing process. I'm super proud of the result! :)The first thing I had to do was recreate the road so far song edit of wayward son, because they have a ton of cuts in the SPN recap version, and the placement of those cuts remain constant every season. After recreating the music they use, I kept studying road-so-fars from other seasons and tried to copy the editing styles used at different parts of the song. Different seasons have slightly different styles, so there were liberties to be taken, but there's also a lot in common with how they do things and I wanted to be consistent with that. So, using the same sorts of transitions in the middle, starting off with a fast-paced montage, using exposition-y quotes patched together from multiple scenes, having speed effects and certain types of shots, doing song ducking under quotes, etc. etc. Basically I focused on a few seasons, then tried to emulate them as best I could, to make a believable recap that feels like it could've been on the show. Then, since there was no Road So Far text (gahhh!) I took a screencap of the S15 "then," photoshopped the text off, and added "The Road So Far" in After Effects, styling it to look as close to their text as possible. Then yay, I was finally done. And I'm really really pleased! What do you think, are we convinced by this? :) Anyways, I'm hoping if anyone else does a rewatch, this can be a happy little addition for them. Claire & Kaia | Follow You Sonia Joie 2021-06-17 | I've been meaning to edit these two for a while now! I wish they'd gotten more time to develop their relationship on the show—their story always felt rushed to me, but I think there was a lot of potential to do more with it! (Yet another reason I wish Wayward Sisters had gotten off the ground.) With not too many clips of them, I thought this would be super hard to edit. In a way it was, but honestly, overall, it was just a really easy/relaxing project. Especially since I wanted to incorporate their individual stories a little too, since it's those backstories that make them and their arc together engaging. Also it was fun to take a break from Dean and Cas for a bit lol. I think I needed that, because I've been getting sad about the fact that there's no new clips, and vids for them right now have started feeling repetitive to work on. But I always enjoy editing Claire, and editing Kaia was a nice too since she's a character I haven't worked with before. :) I doubt if I'll ever do more with this ship, but I really wanted to make one good tribute of them for my collection of SPN vids, especially after rewatching some of these episodes recently. Most of the vid is canonical, but I took a turn with it surrounding the 15.18-15.20 content, editing as if the plot had been something different. Because honestly, every time I see the shot at 2:53 it's so startling?? When I saw it for the first time, part of me actually thought he was dead/dying for a split second, so I kinda jumped off that reaction, like... what if he WAS dead? Either go full happy ending or go full tragedy lol. I mean there's still a hopeful—if ambiguous—ending here, but you know what I mean. If I'm gonna be in pain I want it to at least be engaging and draw on some actual character traits/patterns we've seen in the show. Castiel + Claire and Jack | Safe Sonia Joie 2021-03-10 | Dad!Cas appreciation, because he's the sweetest, and his relationships with Claire and Jack are such a beautiful part of the show. And it was just so lovely to see how much being a father meant to him I— ahhh.Oh, also,, this is my first SPN edit with NEW CLIPS WHAT. Finally, HD (it's so pretty??? I can see people's faces clearly???) and no LOGOS. I'm so happy. I've been cropping and blurring out logos on everything S11 or later for the longest time, and it's such a blessing to not have to worry about that. (Not to mention it's 6ch so the voiceovers sound so much cleaner than they would have otherwise!) The only downside is that the new clips have a bit of a loading issue (it's harder to skim through them) and sometimes I can't preview the audio. That kinda sucks for editing—having to guess or remember what people are saying on occasion, because you literally can't hear them until you drag the clip into the project. At which point, sometimes you still can't hear them unless you make a rendered duplicate thingy. I don't know, Premiere is finicky when it comes to conforming things. But hey, I'll manage. (Maybe I'll use my old clips as proxies or something. Since I still have them, for in-progress videos.) Not gonna lie, watching that whole thing unfold via tumblr and seeing everyone unanimously agree that Dean & Cas got married was kinda spectacular. XD It’s our new canon 🥺 *pretends this doesn’t make me as ridiculously emotional as it does, considering they were my very first ship and give me—as Crowley would say—“FEELINGS”*As one post mentioned, we don’t need the C*W or Chad’s permission to throw a wedding. It truly makes me so happy to see so many fans reclaiming the show and bonding over it! And not just with Destiel.
