Tim Russell 2023-10-24 | Here we are, 121 million years ago, in a clearing in a Triassic forest, looking out over a field of low ferns where dinosaurs roam. How did I get these sounds? I slowed down the sounds of blue jays, mainly, but also a few other birds--which I recorded in my neighborhood. Once more we get an effect probably like dinosaur noises. The image is "migmanychion in a fern forest", as generated by Stable Diffusion and made public domain thanks to Prototyperspective.

Five Popes was a college band I was a member of in the early 1990s. I was 21 years old when this gig was recorded--fresh in the ears, engaged in the Central Illinois music scene, and believing the best was probable, though obviously not yet here. I mean, this recording has its jerks and perks, but all in all I feel it's an interesting document of optimism. Times like the hippie 1960s and the blue-collar grunge renaissance ushered in by Nirvana et al, in which I personally said yes to what I perceived to be collective utopian ambitions, are rare. Capitalism killed mine, with the help of September 11th and the internet. I'm not so wowed anymore. Climate change crisis, anyone? Maybe the brighter future idea will come back, if some sort of new revolution, perhaps of the lonely, can get its collective behind in gear. I seriously digress. Regardless, if you want to hear this recording, keep in mind we were 3/4 college science and math nerds (Steve was a frat boy) and we were all unsure of any darn thing, let alone what the heck we were doing suddenly under the bright lights.

Again I slowed down another binaural recording of birds, this time a murder of crows cawing in a tree. The results again seem like what some dinosaurs might have sounded like. Given that birds are essentially living dinosaurs, a similarity in acoustic properties for some species is plausible. Listen with headphones to get the full effect. Dinosaur Sounds!!!

Tim Russell 2008-09-13 | This is during the Jurassic Period, when dinosaurs populate a shallow bay and forest near the shore. These sounds were made by slowing down a recording I made at a Midwestern public park lagoon. The result is the birds become what dinosaurs might have sounded like. A lot of recent scientific research shows that birds are living dinosaurs, which therefore aren't extinct. Listen with headphones to get the full effect.

Mason and Galileo - The Epic Struggle

Typical of their battles, here Mason, the orange one, completely dominates Galileo, the black and white one, by ambushing repeatedly. Galileo keeps coming back for more, seeming to be confused as to whether continued participation in this game is a good idea. You have to appreciate the attention they give each other over this "problem" or whatever in cat land is happening. And that finish.
