Paige’s 1964 Chevy Chevelle has the WORST Power Disc Brakes I’ve ever driven—and it’s finally time to fix them so this car stops like it should, not like a runaway freight train!
In this video, we’re upgrading the braking system with a new master cylinder, brake booster, and proportioning valve. The Chevelle already had a power disc setup from the previous owner, complete with billet SSBC front calipers and drilled/slotted rotors. But despite all that, the car still had almost zero stopping power.
I already ruled out the basics—vacuum leaks, booster swap, proper bleeding, and even vacuum at idle (15 inHg is plenty). That left us with three likely culprits:
1) Bad master cylinder
2) Bad proportioning valve
Or…
3) the fancy billet SSBC calipers just aren’t up to the task (fingers crossed it’s not that).
After scoring a killer deal on a Summit Racing brake kit from the Summit Outlet in Arlington, we’re installing these upgraded parts to see if we can finally get Paige’s Chevelle stopping the way it should.
