Going live in 360 doesn’t have to be a hassle. With Facebook, YouTube and Periscope support for live 360 (and, in the case of Facebook, better organic reach), coupled with cameras like the Insta360 Air and Nano and Giroptic iO, going live in 360 has never been easier.
Although it’s become exceedingly simple to broadcast our lives from every angle, there’s still plenty to learn from the experts.
The Guru 360 camera stabilizer is among the first (if not the first) of those 360 camera stabilizers to ship and is available now for $299.
The Guru Air 360 can accommodate 360 cameras up to 3.3 pounds (including the Z Cam S1, GoPro Omni rig, Insta360 Pro and Vuze, among others). It will ship within the next month or two and is available for pre-order for $699 now.
The Moza Wearable Kit replaces the Guru 360 handle with a tiny mount that allows users to attach the head of the Guru 360 to helmets, drones and other accessories. The Wearable Kit is also available for pre-order for $99.Q&A with Journalism 360 Director Laura Hertzfeld Immersive Shooter at NAB 2017Immersive Shooter2017-05-16 | Journalism 360 is a joint initiative of the Online News Association, the Knight Foundation and Google News Lab that aims to increase the industry’s understanding around immersive storytelling and provide training to succeed in this space, and create a community of immersive journalists. Lume Cube, known for its affordable line of small, adjustable lighting options, will soon be announcing a modular 360 lighting solution for less than $1,000.
The solution will most likely be a rig containing six of its 60-degree beam-angle lights, each with a max output of 1,500 lumens. The 1.5-inch cube lights, which have a color temperature of 6000 Kelvin, offer both continuous lighting and flash modes and 10 brightness options in increments of 150 lumens.
Manfrotto showed both a smaller tripod and a ridiculously large one—easily among the tallest objects in the Central Hall at NAB.
Manfrotto will also be distributing 360Rize rigs in the U.S. The rigs, which range from $500 for smaller options to several thousand for 3D VR multicam setups, accommodate GoPro, YI, Black Magic and even RED cameras.
Magness also mentioned that 360Rize will be coming out with its own stitching and non-linear editing software that’s “really well bundled”—perhaps that’s code for affordable?—in the next few months.
Liquid Cinema showed off some pretty impressive tools at NAB 2017, including mixing fixed frame and 360 content, forced perspective at cuts from scene to scene, and gaze-controlled graphics.
We sat down with Thomas Wallner, founder of DEEP Inc., which is company behind the software and player tool for 360 videos, to talk about these interesting new features and what's to come down the road.Teradek Sphere integrated with LiveVR for PC-based stitching Immersive Shooter at NABImmersive Shooter2017-05-11 | At NAB, Tereadek announced a new integration for its Sphere live streaming and 360 monitoring device. One of the most difficult choices when beginners jump into immersive storytelling is buying a camera. It’s tough when new cameras with ever higher resolutions, more thoughtful designs, and expanded features are only one month away. Why buy now?
Camera manufacturers like Insta360 aren’t making our decision any easier. When Global Marketing Lead Max Richter appeared on Immersive Shooter’s live show at NAB, he teased a new consumer 360 camera for mobile devices.
But, that’s all he would share. After all, their Insta360 Pro camera isn’t even shipping yet! He estimates it’ll ship May 15. At NAB, we took a hands-on look at the Pro, beyond its specs (8K 360 video, 6K 360 stereoscopic video, etc.) and dug into its thoughtful port options and sample footage.
