Baffling Magazine Issue 2Ayọ̀dẹ́lé Ọlọ́fintúádé InterviewThistle & Verse2022-05-22 | Ayodele Olofintuade is a self-supporting full-time writer whose works are focused primarily on African feminism, Yoruba spirituality (cutting across Africa and the diaspora), the LGBTQ community, and gender non-conforming persons in Nigeria. She is also a social entrepreneur with over seven years of running a mobile library/ teacher support programme Laipo Reads in Ibadan and its environs. Her first major work of Literature was Eno's Story (the Cassava Republic 2010), a critically acclaimed children's story which addressed the issue of child witches that have been plaguing Nigeria for a long time. Her first major article on LGBTQ persons in Nigeria The A-B-C of Sexuality (NigeriansTalk 2014) was published immediately after the passage of the SSMPA (Same-sex Marriage Prohibition Act 2014). In this same year she started the first openly queer and unapologetically feminist blogzine in Nigeria 9jafeminista, where she's still the curator and managing editor. She is currently studying the methods through which online Nigerian feminist campaigns are taken into offline spaces leading to protests. She is an activist, advocate, and member of the LGBTQ community in Nigeria. She is also a culture advocate with a special interest in he longer term effects of the introduction of gender binaries and norms into Yoruba culture through slavery, religion, and eventually colonialism; the women's methods of resistance, and their subversion of the colonial system and gender norms.
