Ali Hussein Kadhim, an Iraqi soldier and a Shia Muslim, was captured in the city of Tikrit by so-called Islamic State militants in June 2014.
He says he will never forget what happened next to him and an estimated 1,700 military cadets.
The cadets, many of them young teenagers starting their careers in the military, were lined up in groups and shot.
This is Kadhim’s own account of how he "miraculously" escaped the massacre at Camp Speicher.

Craig Roberts, Edward Maher and James Dunsby died in the UK armed forces in 2013. Not in war zones, but in training.
The young soldiers were taking part in an elite selection test for the British army's SAS Reserves when they collapsed in the heat.
In 2015, the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) admitted mistakes were made and insisted lessons had been learned.
A year later, it happened again. This time, Corporal Joshua Hoole passed away during a fitness test.
The MoD insists it has taken action to prevent casualties.
Experts and families are warning lives are still at risk.

But while people across the globe were admiring Nissen's work, life for Jon and Alex was only getting more difficult.
Members of the LGBTQ community in Russia say social stigma and risk of physical attacks have increased since the country approved the law banning "gay propaganda" in 2013.
And for Jon, now that Alex is not alive, the picture is also a symbol of painful struggle and, ultimately, loss.

Just some of the symptoms experienced by people who say they suffer from 'electrosensitivity'.
Electrosensitives – who are mostly self-diagnosed - say that electromagnetic fields from mobile phones, wi-fi and other modern technology are making them seriously ill.
Years of well-controlled, double-blind studies have found no evidence that electromagnetic fields cause these symptoms.
The World Health Organisation says electrosensitivity is not a medical diagnosis, and both the WHO and Public Health England say there’s no scientific basis that these symptoms are linked to electromagnetic field exposure.
But, with super-fast 5G mobile technology spreading across the UK, electrosensitives are getting increasingly worried.
