That tradition kind of continues, but it varies. The idea at Mr. Coat and Friends was to do something different every year and change it up a bit. Switch review personas, cover some home video someone did, or make something that was a hilarious waste of time. Those were the days.Of all those April Fools specials, this is the one I am proud of the most. It was my first time doing a video game review and I knew it had to be something I was familiar with. Lo and behold, I got this GameCube video game for Christmas one year and the rest was history. I did an entire playthrough, captured my thoughts, and came up with gags in-between. It felt like I was doing my own AVGN episode, minus the vulgarity. Would I do it again? Probably not given the time and effort to took into this one. It was fun first time around, but topping this would be a tough act to follow.You will easily note some edits had to be made for soundtrack purposes so I don't get hit by the dreaded copyrights of this site. I tried to replace the Alan Silverstri BTTF theme, but I still got hit. It resulted in using some generic music that was offered to avoid this video from getting blocked. Another big edit was the "British Keyboard" gag at the end. Streaking with a toaster was funny first time around, but trying to make it funnier again just felt like I was forcing it. Don't worry. In honor of the late Brandon Lee, this 1994 adaption gets its due with a look at the legacy of this movie that extends more than its production tragedy.NOTE FROM THE CREATORThis episode was set to debut after Monster in the Closet, but something strange happened. After researching every detail on the events that happened during the filming of The Crow, I felt it would be more appropriate to examine the movie from a retrospective view. There was some light taps on the gun violence, but I didn't want that to be the main focus. Midway through editing, there was this weird uncomfortable feeling I got. Yet I pressed forward feeling this episode would still work as an homage to the movie.And then during a day at work, the Trump assassination attempt took place. The episode was 75% complete and at first, I thought maybe there was a chance to still get it released despite the circumstance. But hours later, I found myself watching my 8 month old niece while the TV was showing the details. The feeling went from awkward to uncomfortable. Considering the dark nature of this episode, I felt the best thing to do was to hold off releasing this one and work on something more positive as a distraction. Thankfully, I had zero intentions to scrap the episode. I just wanted some time for things to simmer so it felt better to unleash this. With the Flintstones episode incomplete, I had no other option but to provide something given I like to have a new episode released on my birthday. This has nothing to do with the reboot. I just wanted to get some new material out there in place of what was delayed. If the topics discussed make you feel uncomfortable, I completely understand. This was no an easy one to do. I do urge to watch with caution if some elements of this episode don't work. Land of the Lost (The 1991 Remake Series) - Vaulting Morgan Leger 2024-07-26 | #vaulting #landofthelost #saturdaymorningcartoons RECOLLECTIONS:Season one to me is a rough patch. There are some episodes I am ok with and some that still bother me given the early years was a literal trial period. When Season 6 was put on hold, I tried to make an attempt to go back and fine tune the first 45 episodes to relax my annoyances. Turns out, it was far more time consuming than I imagined and the thought of going through all those episodes with a fine tooth comb was placed on hold. Some of them you can see on my Vimeo page and this was one of them.Thankfully, this is one of those episodes I am fine with sharing. The 1991 remake of Land of the Lost remains a big cornerstone of my childhood and felt it would be good to cover given the new movie that was out at the time. Because the series was originally on a one episode per month release, plans deterred quick on the original intention of the Land of the Lost '91 review. It was intended to be a trilogy spread over June, July, and August. In-between that, I filmed some commentary riffs on some episodes from the 1991 series and was going to have those in uploaded to fill the dead wait time (they got deleted over time for storage space.)However, the 2009 big screen movie was a massive flop and things immediately fell apart. The three part series was cut down to two and July saw the upload of a top 10 list instead to make up for lost time. It made more sense to attach onto something that was popular in the public eye and connect to something that would be labeled a disappointment. Yet, folks wanted to see me finish covering the 1991 series, so I did given there was some material to go over.For your viewing pleasure, I stitched together the remastered editions of Episodes 7 and 9. Both are updated and contain some extra material that I wish I covered back then. Even more botched was episode 9, whose production occurred all in one day. It was filmed early in the morning on my birthday, edited hastily in the afternoon, and uploaded around early evening. Now, this version is a little more in-depth on certain elements like the rouge gallery and botched moments of Season 2. There's also some better quality footage of the series spliced in, yet my material remains under low quality. The idea of exporting the series in a high quality master was not thought of well back then and I'm still kicking myself for it. Looking back on it now, the smarter choice would have been to export the show onto DVD for storage and then use those masters as a base. Instead, the episodes were exported as low quality MPEGs and they are stuck as such. Keep in mind, season one was an experimental era to see what worked and what didn't. The show had no identity, no script, and it was the tone was "let's throw this at the wall and see what sticks."
