some synthwave with outrun footage over it woooaaah ! (super original) definitely wasn't my intention to not upload anything in over half a year, if you follow my facebook page i mentioned that i'm working on closing off an album+EP i've been working on-and-off for the past 5 years, but on the side i'm also working on 3 other music projects with more uncertain futures. this track is actually a rework from a piece on one of these five projects, and if/once i can get these finished pieces out you might recognize this song in a different form : )Sonic Advance 3 - Chaos Angel (Shriek Remix)Shriek2021-08-19 | DOWNLOAD: patreon.com/shriekmusic OLD REMIX: soundcloud.com/shriekelectronic/sonic-advance-3-chaos-angel-remaster

specifically act 3.
definitely one of my favorite game tunes as a kid, i even remixed it many many years ago and i used to even practice the melody when i first started making music some 10 years ago. between this, cyber track, and ocean base, Sonic Advance 3 really abused the hell out of the GBA soundchip!
this has actually been a longgoing passion project of mine, the original track has such an abrasive, dirty sound that i was always afraid to cover it because i could never make the right sounds to match it. i really wanted to do this song justice, i've tried covering this song multiple times over the past couple years but could never get it to sound the way i wanted. this one in particular i started working on in february and i spent a LOT of time making tweaks and quirks to make it feel "on brand" for me. not to mention the stupendously complex backing melodies and arps that i spent forever to get right. towards the end i had to just finish this because it would take roughly 20-30 minutes just to load the project file lol.
huge fan of michael mccann's work, he has this distinctive lightweight sound that always carries the games that they are in. originally i wanted to create a cover that sounded nearly identical just because i wanted a version of this without the sex noises because i am a prude (/j) but of course i couldn't resist shoving UNATCO in there and then it gradually became its own thing. i also wanted to tap into the "humanity" aspect of deus ex so i experimented with percussion sampled from different household objects like pins, coins, and lighters. ignore the video glitches, vegas pro hates me. credits to Gaming Ambience for the background video!Yakuza 0 - t u s k (Shriek Remix)Shriek2021-03-21 | Patreon/Download: patreon.com/shriekmusic

yeah i did two remixes of this and i always felt the first one was never the one i wanted to make. i do really like this theme though and i was very fond of ORAS' delta chapter, for what it was. this one took about two months of on-and-off work.LISA: The Painful - The End is Nigh (Shriek Remix)Shriek2020-08-02 | TW: GORE IMAGERY
i started this while working on something else and got so into it i ended up finishing it before that first project.
took a lot of ideas from how the original soundtrack was designed, being done on the demo version of FL Studio there's a lot of amateur design intricacies throughout the soundtrack, such as sudden/lack of transitions between bars, heavy use of presets and pre-packaged open source loops and even straight up using other songs. (the original song is actually built off an included .flp file in the demo version of FL, uses the same chords and melody. i actually found the .flp from an older version and used that to make this)
going back and using simple basic sytrus presets and stock loops and sounds was actually sort of nostalgic; in a way i sort of felt like i was just discovering fruity loops all over again.Shriek - fn onShriek2020-07-12 | PATREON/DOWNLOAD LINK: patreon.com/shriekmusic

A lot has happened in the past year. I've committed to making an album (with a style of music unlike what I post normally) and I've also worked on a few soundtracks. Only now, in one week-long span of time where I have absolutely nothing planned, I can dedicate some time to making something off-track. Here's the result.
I've wanted to tinker with future bass for a while, and I've also made some breakcore-adjacent doodles in my free time and while I'd like to make tracks in those genres, I figured I could kill two birds with one stone and apply both genres in one track.
There's some obvious mixing errors but the moment I would have resumed on my regular schedule this track would just be lost on my hard drive to likely never be touched again.
See you again in fifty years (。→∀←。)A Hat In Time - FrostBurnWorld (Theme of 4 Floor Run, a Mod Rift by Happyalm)Shriek2018-08-22 | PATREON LINK: patreon.com/shriekmusic
4 Floor Run is a speedrunning mod rift designed by user Happyalm for Gears for Breakfast's game A Hat in Time.
Production-wise, this is likely the most ambitious thing I've done for a commission. This song is actually four different pieces that are layered and switched during gameplay. This was a huge task for me and involved a lot of trial and error, including several pieces or ideas that didn't even make it into the final track! Some of these included live guitar instrumentals (opted out in favor of synthesized rhythm guitars), full-on breakcore, and even an alto sax solo!
Enjoy this full mix of the finished theme, and definitely check out this level if you own A Hat In Time on PC!
I did a lot of research on vocal synthesizers for this track, and experimented with tons of different kinds of them, ranging from ChipSpeech, Vocaloid, and finally deciding on AlterEgo for both its ease-of-use and likeness to primitive vocal synth technologies of its kind. I used both Bones and (the now-defunct) Daisy as a duet to bring a form of unity to the song's lyrics, wherein the original song had only Kraftwerk's Ralf Hütter performing the vocals (and the updated Mix version featuring a sort of text-to-speech-like vocal which gave me the inspiration for this remix!).
The chopped vocals in the beginning are actually done by Hatsune Miku, which I had first attempted to use as the main vocals for the remix. (Eventually I had to change course due to limitations with Vocaloid's software, also I just didn't end up digging the sound)
It took a lot (more than I'm willing to admit) of time and effort to make the vocals sound as true-to-the-era-"retro" as possible... My ticks as a perfectionist are truly cursed ( ´△`)

I finally built myself a rig to withstand the power of After Effects' dark forces, so maybe this will help me get video out a LOT quicker...
Either way, this was something I worked on in-between a few commissions for my friend phantasmalfawn! She runs and maintains a really cute kawaii pastel video blog where I'm working on making cute background music for her videos! I'll include a link in the bottom.
This track took about a month to complete all-in-all. Experimented with chord progression and did much to add texture and space to the track altogether. Hope you enjoy!
Two whole months of work. Yikes. Remind me to stop procrastinating.
After finishing my first EP, "bon odori" (which is now available for FREE, links at the bottom) back in February, I wasn't exactly planning to take a hiatus more so than get right back to making some music. This actually didn't happen as well as I intended, since I got accepted into a day job in March which really constricted the days off I so took advantage of to get so many tracks out on such a good schedule. Since "bon odori" was mostly dream-pop, lo-fi and shoegaze inspired, I figured I'd go back to my dance roots after all that experimenting. While this took a lot longer than I had intended, it took even longer for me to become satisfied with the end result, especially since working on "bon odori" had raised my own expectations for myself.
Anyway, even when spanned across a two-month's timeframe, this remix also has one of my longest production times, taking me over six hours. My BRB remix took only four, and that was done completely by ear, whereas this one was an imported MIDI. (Thank you so much, MaestroMikes! Much credit.)
All talking on work and what-not aside, I LOVE Freedom Planet! I've already had a Freedom Planet-related upload but that was more of just a meme bandwagon I was riding on.
Freedom Planet is a brilliant game. Freedom Planet is a speed-based platform game heavily inspired by the Genesis-era Sonic titles and other games from the era. If you enjoyed any classic Sonic titles, Freedom Planet is a game for you, simple as that. Freedom Planet also has a well-written and engrossing story with entertaining characters. The art is so colorful and the colors are so vibrant and well-planned, it doesn't feel like a single aspect of the game wasn't carefully planned out. It's pure platforming perfection, and I'm so incredibly excited for the sequel, especially after playing the demo, which left me in awe and wanting more. Everything has been expanded on and improved, from the controls and the platforming, the boss fights, the music (composed by the WONDERFUL Woofle! You should definitely check out her compositions on her Soundcloud!), the graphics and animations, and seemingly everything else. Please play the demo if you're interested and play the original Freedom Planet if you can!
•"bon odori" on Bandcamp: shriek.bandcamp.com/album/-Splatoon - Bomb Rush Blush (Shriek Remix)Shriek2017-04-05 | Apologies for the lower-quality video. I accidentally rendered it lossless which ended up being around 52GB. Had to lower the quality a smidge so I could at least have it uploaded in a decent time.
I don't have a Switch yet so I haven't gotten to play the Testfire. :(
This was my first remix done completely by ear. This took me about a week to get finished and I'm really surprised how well I was able to include extra pieces and melodies. I guess this can be compared to my Link's Awakening remix since I extended the original piece and added my own melodies.
I don't have plans to remix Tide Goes Out or any other Splatoon tracks, but I also said I wouldn't make any more Undertale remixes after Bonetrousle, so.... I guess only time will tell.Shriek - With UShriek2017-01-06 | Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?2vpcs2rure44n

It's been what, over a YEAR since I uploaded something other than a remix??
Yikes. Well, this was another one-sitter, finished in about three hours. I'm really finding comfort experimenting with a lot of different percussion samples, and this track really implements a lot of the experimentation I found fruitful.Undertale - Hopes and Dreams (Shriek Remix)Shriek2016-12-01 | PATREON LINK: patreon.com/shriekmusic
Believe it or not, I pulled an all-nighter for this and still didn't finish until 5PM the next day...er, today. I really wanted to get this out.
So, why so late for an Undertale remix? Well, after my Bonetrousle remix was put on Soundcloud it quickly became one of my most popular tracks, and it really wasn't something I intended. I considered Undertale to be a sort of niche area for remixing, so I told myself I wouldn't make anymore.
Whoops lol.
Although most of this was done in one sitting, a lot of extra work was put into this. The FLP file alone breaks my record for most audio channels (a whopping 47 audio channels total!). I wanted tons of different sounds to be used, so I ended up branching out with entirely differents VST's, even some I wasn't really knowledgeable with, like Harmor. I included a few Sytrus presets as well just because I have a soft spot for tracks that use them.Links Awakening - Ballad of the Wind Fish [Shriek Remix]Shriek2016-08-02 | Download (It's a 206MB .wav, so be careful): mediafire.com/?fajxl89fc3xa0r0
This was a remix I was planning on for a while, because Link's Awakening is one of the best games in the series IMO and has one of my favorite themes. I also included a fairy fountain segment (which, ironically, isn't even in Link's Awakening), and a few original melodies inspired by the game's musical score.
I guess I should apologize again for the inactivity, I got a new setup and haven't bothered to install After Effects. The program itself is too CPU-heavy and almost too fickle to work with, so I held off on using it for a while.
But anyway, a LOT of work went into this track, between 17 hours of working on the track itself, making the video, and then COMPRESSING said video because the raw file was over 300GB.
Well anyway, I hope you enjoy what I've put out. I can't say for certain what I'll be releasing into the future, because I put pretty much all my work into this with no future projects planned ahead.(Quad City DJs vs. Woofle) Freedom Slamet - Prince Slams Slam BattleShriek2016-01-18 | Expecting five million dislikes since this is my first music upload since August.
