What's a "Micro Music Video"? A tiny, simple and hypnotizing video accompaniment to my songs. Rather than seeing a static image, I loved the idea of having a visual to get lost in while listening.
Lyrics: We will call this place our home, The dirt in which our roots may grow. Though the storms will push and pull, We will call this place our home.
We’ll tell our stories on these walls. Every year, measure how tall. And just like a work of art, We’ll tell our stories on these walls.
Let the years we’re here be kind, be kind. Let our hearts, like doors, open wide, open wide. Settle our bones like wood over time, over time. Give us bread, give us salt, give us wine.
A little broken, a little new. We are the impact and the glue. Capable of more than we know, We call this fixer upper home.
With each year, our color fades. Slowly, our paint chips away. But we will find the strength And the nerve it takes To repaint and repaint and repaint every day.
Let the years we’re here be kind, be kind. Let our hearts, like doors, open wide, open wide. Settle our bones like wood over time, over time. Give us bread, give us salt, give us wine. Let the years we’re here be kind, be kind. Let our hearts, like doors, open wide, open wide. Settle our bones like wood over time, over time. Give us bread, give us salt, give us wine. Give us bread, give us salt, give us wine.
Smaller than dust on this map Lies the greatest thing we have: The dirt in which our roots may grow And the right to call it home.

I've waited a hundred years But I'd wait a million more for you Nothing prepared me for What the privilege of being yours would do
If I had only felt the warmth within your touch If I had only seen how you smile when you blush Or how you curl your lip when you concentrate enough I would have known what I was living for all along
What I've been living for
Your love is my turning page Where only the sweetest words remain Every kiss is a cursive line Every touch is a redefining phrase
I surrender who I've been for who you are For nothing makes me stronger than your fragile heart If I had only felt how it feels to be yours Well, I would have known what I've been living for all along

"You Are Enough" is from "Atlas: I" by Sleeping At Last - fanlink.to/Atlas1
Lyrics:
YOU ARE ENOUGH
when we woke up the world was figured out beyond the beauty we’ve dreamt about. this brilliant light is brighter than we’ve known, without our darkness to prove it so. still, we can’t help but to examine it, to add our question marks to periods. at the foot of our bed, we found an envelope…
“you are enough.” these little words, somehow they’re changing us. “you are enough.” so we let our shadows fall away like dust.
when we grew up, our shadows grew up too. but they’re just old ghosts that we grow attached to. the tragic flaw is that they hide the truth
that you’re enough. i promise you’re enough. i promise you’re enough, i promise you.
“you are enough.” these little words, somehow they’re changing us. “you are enough,” so we let our shadows fall away like dust. “you are enough.” these little words, somehow they’re changing us. let it go, let it go, “you are enough.” so we let our shadows fall away like dust.

Love, Ryan - Sleeping At LastMother (Voice Memo) by Sleeping At Last (Official Lyric Video)Sleeping At Last2023-05-18 | "Mother (Voice Memo)" is the final release in my collection of new songs called, "Mother"
My mom passed away very suddenly last year in March. In the days right after, I sat down at my piano, which felt like a friend, and wrote a song called "Mother" in her honor. I tried to get back into writing songs for my Atlas: III project, but I wasn't ready. Instead, unexpected songs and themes began to surface that was my own way of processing and untangling the grief of such a huge loss in my life. Music is my way of understanding myself and so these songs naturally came to life from what I was experiencing. These "Mother" songs needed to be written before continuing on in my Atlas: III project.
It's bittersweet for this collection of music to begin to release now, at the first anniversary of losing my mom, but I'm really grateful for each of these songs, which felt deeply comforting to write. As we all have experienced loss and longing, I am honored to share them with you and hope that they can somehow be a source of comfort and connection for you as well. I'll be recording episodes of The Sleeping At Last Podcast for each song, talking through grief, death, loss and hope. All episodes are available now.
Huge thanks to Sharon Gerber who played Cellos. And to Chris Bethea for mixing/mastering this song, as well as artist, Joey Chou who painted the gorgeous cover art (Joey is one of my Mom's favorite artists of all time, so it means so much to me that he would be willing to create the cover art for each of these "Mother" songs)“Mother (Voice Memo)” by Sleeping At Last - Home VideoSleeping At Last2023-05-12 | In the days immediately following my mom's passing, I finished writing my song "Mother" in her honor. I pressed record on my phone's voice memo app and sang these lyrics for the first time. "Mother (Voice Memo)" is that recording and it includes gorgeous cellos from Sharon Gerber.
With this release, my "Mother" collection of songs comes to a close. To write and record these "Mother" songs has been a step toward healing for me. I needed to write these songs. I miss my mom so much and though I will be trying to reconcile this loss for the rest of my life, in getting to share this music, I have felt less alone. I have felt hope. Grief, in all its many forms, is absolutely dreadful. But one tiny gift is that it carves out space in us to understand and empathize with one another on an entirely different and richly beautiful level. In a way, grief gives birth to a new kind of love. In remembering my mom and processing grief in these songs, I've caught my first glimpse of that new love. As Mother's Day approaches, whether your mom is with you or not, whether you have a good relationship with your mom or not, whether you are a mom or not – I hope you feel the presence of love, new or familiar. And whatever you're swimming through in this life, I hope these songs can be a friend you along the way. Thank you so much for listening.
Lyrics:
love, bigger than the ocean is what you’ve given to me. you hunted down every danger so my brother and i could swim free in a love bigger than the ocean.
the shores, they were mighty scary. but at my back, i had the mighty sea. there's something so strange about human nature, we get so used to the gifts that we receive. now, i'm more than grateful for a love bigger than the ocean.
i dreamt you were down by the water. you looked so proud and happy to see me. you were laying down some kind of red carpet on the beach. i said, mom, i'm not sure what this means. it was an invitation to a love bigger than the ocean.
now, we have children of our own. we’ll dive back into the waters we have known. as you loved us, we will ove them to the brim. because of you, they were born ready to swim in a love bigger than, a love deeper than the ocean.
i still have so much i want to tell you. i still have so much to figure out. there’s so much of you in the reflection of my life and i hope you know i couldn't be more proud. of this life swimming in a love deeper than the ocean.”Mother”Sleeping At Last2023-05-12 | Source: podbean.com/eau/pb-2xj9d-13f9a4a

This past March, at the one year anniversary of her passing, my family and I made it to Hawaii to honor her wishes. “Bright Sadness” is about that experience, which was both heartbreaking and healing. The first thing you hear in this song is my Mom’s voice, as she was filming a family video of the very same spot of the ocean where we held her ceremony. She describes the beauty of the landscape perfectly: “this has got to be the closest thing to Heaven.”
(this is such a beautiful place, this has got to be the closest thing to Heaven)
a bright sunrise through shattered glass, a fountain of youth slipping through the cracks. i drag my feet through perfect sand toward a future i no longer understand. but my daughters’ collection of broken shells teach me: i can still learn lessons if i let myself.
“i’ll be alright, i’ll be alright, i’ll be alright” it’s been a year at the mercy of a merciless tide. but now we’re here, clothes barely dry, we return to the ocean one more time for you.
in the water we pay attention to one another. in the water we remember that nothing, even death, lasts forever.
i want to swim, i want to swim, i want to try to trust in the mercy of the merciless tide. my mother taught me all will be reconciled, God, what a gift to be my mother’s child.
i want to swim, i want to swim and close my eyes be swept up in the mercy of the merciful tide, my mother believed i will be reconciled. God, what a gift to be my mother’s child.

Because real-life atoms become molecules, once a handful of my “atoms” are released into the wild, I’ll do occasional “Molecule Sessions”, in which I will choose a few “atoms” (perhaps with your help?!) and expand on them, transforming them into something different! I’m very excited about what these tiny pieces of music may become!

Love, Ryan - Sleeping At LastLet Down Cover by Sleeping At Last x Andrew BelleSleeping At Last2023-01-20 | My friend and incredible artist, Andrew Belle and I decided to record one of our all-time favorite songs together, "Let Down" by Radiohead. It's almost sacred ground to cover Radiohead, but it was so much fun to try our hand at this gorgeous song. It’s out today and we hope you enjoy it!
Huge thanks to Sharon Gerber who played Cellos and Anya Gerber who played Violins!! And to Chris Bethea for mastering this song, as well as artist, Taylor Wilson who painted the gorgeous cover art!atom 8 by Sleeping At LastSleeping At Last2023-01-06 | Welcome to “atoms”: tiny pieces of music inspired by tiny and beautiful things! the branches have traded their leaves for white sleeves all warm-blooded creatures make ghosts as they breathe scarves are wrapped tightly like gifts under trees christmas lights tangle in knots annually
our families huddle closely betting warmth against the cold but our bruises seem to surface like mud beneath the snow
so we sing carols softly, as sweet as we know a prayer that our burdens will lift as we go like young love still waiting under mistletoe we’ll welcome december with tireless hope
let our bells keep on ringing making angels in the snow may the melody disarm us when the cracks begin to show
like the petals in our pockets may we remember who we are unconditionally cared for by those who share our broken hearts
the table is set and our glasses are full though pieces go missing, may we still feel whole we’ll build new traditions in place of the old ‘cause life without revision will silence our souls
so let the bells keep on ringing making angels in the snow may the melody surround us when the cracks begin to show
like the petals in our pockets may we remember who we are unconditionally cared for by those who share our broken hearts
as gentle as feathers, the snow piles high our world gets rewritten and retraced every time like fresh plates and clean slates, our future is white new year’s resolutions will reset tonightNaive (Live Acoustic) - Sleeping At LastSleeping At Last2022-09-01 | Recorded live at Electrical Audio in Chicago. "Naive" belongs to the album, "Storyboards", which turned 13 years old, as of writing this text! To celebrate, I wanted to share this live acoustic version of the song.
Lyrics:
Religion is a breeding ground where the devil's work is deeply found, with teeth as sharp as cathedral spires, slowly sinking in.
God knows that I've been naive but i think it makes him proud of me. now it's so hard to separate my disappointments from his name.
because shadows stretch behind the truth, where stained glass offers broken clues and fear ties knots and pulls them tight. it leaves us paralyzed.
but in the end such tired words will rest. the truth will reroute the narrow things they've said. the marionette strings will lower and untie and out of the ashes, love will be realized.
God knows that we've been naive and a bit nearsighted to say the least. it's broken glass at children's feet that gets swept aside unexpectedly.

After a few days together in Chicago and originally inspired by the work and mission of Hopeland (an Orphan Myth partner), both Tim Fain and Sleeping At Last wrote their song, "Hope,” about the strength of vulnerable children in both the foster care system and orphanages around the world. Both Fain’s and O’Neal’s young daughters lent their voices to the song, as well as to the song’s artwork.

Lyrics:
HOPE
There is hope in our eyes When we truly see each other Like the light of countless stars We are not afraid of the dark
‘Cause there is hope in our hearts In every single beat, we feel it To the ends of the earth Our echo carries on
We are sacred, we are strong We are beautiful. we belong Please hear our unheard song
There is hope in our voice When we listen to each other Our barriers disappear With every story told
We are sacred, we strong We are beautiful. we belong Please hear our unheard song
There is hope in our eyes When we truly see each other So we raise our flag, lift our voice
(This is our hopeland) We are sacred, we strong (This is our hopeland) We are beautiful. we belong (This is our hopeland) We are worthy, we are true (This is our hopeland) There are no borders from this view Please help us raise our flag

when will i feel this as vivid as it truly is, fall in love in a single touch, and fall apart when it hurts too much?
can we skip past near-death clichés where my heart restarts, as my life replays? all i want is to flip a switch before something breaks that cannot be fixed.
i know, i know- the sirens sound just before the walls come down. pain is a well-intentioned weatherman predicting God as best he can, but God i want to feel again.
rain or shine, i don’t feel a thing, just some information upon my skin. i miss the subtle aches when the weather changed, the barometric pressure we always blamed.
all i want is to flip a switch before something breaks that cannot be fixed.
invisible machinery, these moving parts inside of me well, they’ve been shutting down for quite some time, leaving only rust behind.
well i know, i know- the sirens sound just before the walls come down. pain is a well-intentioned weatherman predicting God as best he can, but God i want to feel again, oh God i want to feel again.
down my arms, a thousand satellites suddenly discover signs of life.
http://sleepingatlast.comDecember 21, 2020: The Great Conjunction by Sleeping At LastSleeping At Last2020-12-20 | On December 21st, 2020, we get to witness the "Great Conjunction" - where the planets, Saturn and Jupiter appear to almost kiss in the sky. The last time we were able to view this bright sight was 800 years ago. As if that's not awesome enough, it takes place on the Winter Solstice of 2020... AND near Christmas (some have nicknamed it a "Christmas star.") So, I wrote a tiny "soundtrack" for this astronomical event, as part of my ongoing series "Astronomy." (music inspired by astronomical events and discoveries. In other words, when cool stuff happens in the universe around us, I try to write music for it.)
Curious how this song was born? I recorded an episode of The Sleeping At Last podcast about its birth story: fanlink.to/sleepingatlastpodcast
