To view it in the intended speed - youtu.be/8nQNO_Hyizs 📚Description: Gibson first toyed with the idea of a maple surrounded Gibson Les Paul in 1974 and was released to the public in 1976. That model is known as a "The Les Paul" and only 77 of them were built. The follow up model "Super Custom" borrowed this same "mahogany core" surrounded by maple idea and when it was reissued for the 2nd time in 2008 (first time in 1984) - they had to figure out a way to do the maple edges since they hadn't done that since the 80s. Their solution? A one-piece flame maple body like the 50th anniversary Les Paul Custom from 2002! There was a run of reportedly ~30 '68 Reissue Les Paul Customs that also got the flamed maple body in ~2008 - this is one of those special pieces. I've tried to get Gibson to do custom orders like this recently and was turned down, however, we just recently saw one in 2024... might they do more? Being a 27" Baritone Scale Length and having an oversized chambered body makes these like no other Les Paul from the past. They are in DESPERATE need of a reissue but I'm just not so sure we will ever see it. In Buckethead production, the very early ones have 5-ply binding and they are pretty tough to find. Most on the market will have the full 7-ply les paul custom style binding. I didn't even realize I was buying a 5-ply one until I started recording... that's a good thing though as I'm pretty deep into this one after shipping it back to the USA from Australia. This started life as your regular 1957 Gibson Les Paul Special in a TV Yellow finish with 2 p90 pickups and a wrap tailpiece but at some point in the later-70s, it was stripped+refinished all the while adding a "Mystic Maiden" inlaid onto the top with plastic, mother of pearl, abalone and wood. It was also routed for Dimarzio Humbuckers, refretted, reamed for Schaller tuners and a placque etched into the back.
