bare plains, bare backs, bare bones we call home bare hunts bare homes bare hands to the skin and to the stones our bodies to conquer our bodies to roam bare plains, bare backs, bare bones
cold wind, cold steel, warm hands we make no sound cold judgement, warm kiss we stay low to the ground the women who fought us they smelled us and caught us and now you’ll never be found
hyacinth and chamomile forget-me-not and roses pressed inside my book for when you lie in soft repose i’ve wandered through the wastes of barren catatonic shame it was only in the thunderstorm that i recalled my name
the circus man who shone so bright regret i never told him right before he left us i’d begun to find a home in him families like packs of wounded beasts i learned to stay but the devil in the details took my body far away
bare hands, bare bones, bruised heart learn to trust build homes, break chains, bear loss do penance where we must the thunder who raised me the people that saved me the rage, the rain, the rust

pushing, pushing away push hard enough for long enough the ones sitting pretty on top have gotta come crashing, crashing, have gotta come crashing down
you’ve either left me, or you’re gonna leave me i get it, pain hasn’t made me something pretty i’m used to living a question— well, used to being really pissed about the question: who am i? who was i supposed to be, before somebody took it away?
pushing, pushing away push hard enough, for long enough the ones that made me like this have gotta come crashing, crashing, they’re gonna come crashing down
easier said than done once i’ve had a little taste of somewhere to come from, someone to become, someone better than the someone they left on the pavement in pieces for someone to blame
sometimes you gotta crash out, a rock hits rock bottom, to know the hole you gotta start climbing out of inch by inch, pain by pain, a little trust goes a long way
pushing, pushing away from focusing on who i could have been get clear, cut dead weight, i gotta start seeing, seeing who i could be now
nobody’s promise, nobody’s child get down with chaos, embrace the wild i am not polished and shining i am not rough like i was before, before but i’m enough of somebody now that when i crash down somebody’s there when i wake upeverything — fearne’s songLilli Furfaro2025-02-23 | i want everything the world, a pearl to wear upon my ear yes, everything a boon, a brief identity to steal a souvenir
but here, i’ve tamed the monsters i’ve seen the revels i know them well
inside me there’s an animal that needs i know i am an animal ‘cause i have seen my cage, and i have teeth
i want everything this world’s another game that i can win it’s dizzying i’ll dance you to the backfoot, dip and spin enjoy the din
but in my heart afire i fear my mirror who falls to flame
inside me i just want to watch it burn i know that giddy apathy indulge it, and the ones i love get hurt
identity is bloodless no sire speaks for me i am the creature comforts desire, liberty
my path has been predestined or so they like to say i’ll take that dull suggestion and burn it all away
and everything becomes the lives of all i cannot lose i’ll take anything to give the greatest gift: the right to choose we’ll get to choose
from here, i’ll meet the monsters i’ll steal the secrets i’ll be the blaze
inside me there’s a spark, a world we’ve won i know that i have everything, now anything that comes is all for funnew, here — dorian’s songLilli Furfaro2025-02-16 | sky and silk won’t turn a stone a choice in hand to move or be moved hidden high above the land blow where my people blow
second sons can’t greet the day so say the mornings to whom i was born no plan or place, so i will play join the winds down below
“new” is all the world to me “new” is now my guiding star so give me all that i can see give me songs and family and i can go twice as far
there is freedom in a name a choice in hand to serve or be served shirk the rules and ditch the shame go where my people go
“here” is all the world to me “here” is now my home and heart show me all that i can see i’ll be songs and family and we will go twice as far
follow new experience dance through every open door find my place in other’s hands find the tune i’m searching for
learn of love and roots and things learn of pain and coming war learn that love can lead to pain learn the choice to live a name lose the tie to all that came before
brother found and brother gone a choice in hand to move or be moved chariot empty to pull in the dawn go where my people go
“new,” the world to them, and me “here,” is where i want to stay there’s a world that i can see filled with songs and family we’ll be changed, but we’ll be free —
note by note, hand in hand, day by day by day, by daytimes of change - orym’s songLilli Furfaro2025-02-09 | steadfast, one foot in front of me another i move, stretch out an atrophy recover
like the wind, like the moon times of change are coming soon o, my moon, where to go? i cannot know
lockstep, a growing family a vision with time, one step from synchrony i listen
like the wind, like a seed times of change are calling me i can’t see, i’m afraid, we’ll find a way
big world, division not mine to make the decision not mine, but mine to clear the road
one step, another we fall, we catch each other that’s mine more time, make time, i’ll try
i breathe, he breathes the world from me a wonder with time, a possibility a future

lyrics: sweet water only serves to make me thirsty my alabaster jar collects the rain it's used to water other people's pastures brimming vessels always empty out again at least it means i'm useful now and then
empty vessels
fill me, fill me i was made to pour out all my insides fill me i've been sitting in your highest cupboard fill me i was built to hold the weight of safety fill me, fill me otherwise i'm empty
my belly filled with rich anointing oils you snap me by the neck to break the seal you touch me to your tongue and call it holy the loss reminds me what it is to feel i guess it means that's worth the time it takes to heal
empty vessels
fill me, fill me i was made to pour out all my insides fill me i've been sitting in your highest cupboard fill me i was built to hold the weight of safety fill me, fill me otherwise i'm empty
i am not a wellspring, not a fountain i don't keep what i've been given it's my lot to pour it out again untouched i will give it sanctuary i will hold it deep inside me for a time until you're thirsty, you're so thirsty i'm so thirsty, i'm so
fill me, fill me i was made to pour out all my insides fill me i've been sitting in your highest cupboard fill me i was built to hold the weight of safety fill me, fill me otherwise i'm

Hunter Rogerson (the lovely gentleman on the cello) and I are a folk duo called Ginger & Pear! "Gardening" is available on all streaming platforms.
the earth is hard and unmoving and i tread on it lightly i cannot make a good impression i'm not enough for frozen ground my hands get weaker in the winter the numbness of the wind sets in i wear the season like a scarf, a weighted blanket but i wish i had a garden again
this summer past, i found my body while coaxing life up from the dirt i learned that i could keep it thriving i saw my hands do something right and now in this unwelcome hibernation i turn my face toward the sun i think of burying my future in a greenhouse and i wish i had a garden again
in truth, the spring could find me barren still i cannot conjure water in my well through force of will it's not the winter's fault that i've run dry there's life here to be found i guess i'm not enough for frozen ground
so instead i reach for pencils when i could have held a spade i plant my seedlings in a notebook and hope they see the light someday i know that i am not a gardener i know that i must wait for rain
and i wish i had a garden againtethering - vax’s songLilli Furfaro2022-02-27 | a song for the champion of the raven queen.
LYRICS:
my responsibility starts and ends with kin they think they can cut us out i was never in
with my mirror at my side speed and shadow be our guide string that binds us sanctified joining twin and twin
fighting instability try to understand tightrope-walking go or stay trust their offered hands
paths ahead and paths behind meaning still for me to find kin is born and made in kind i will let them in
with each opportunity tethering the parts of me tie my strings around a tree roots and ribbons mingling
losing temporarily my mirror and the most of me i give myself eternally an end to save my everything
my responsibility starts and ends with kin lady fate, with offered hands, pulls my tether in
given wisdom with my wings i take heart in bigger things see the crossing of the strings that start where we begin
though it hurts my heart to leave learning love is learning grief through the mourning, i believe we will endure by tethering
through the bonds of family they will keep my effigy feathers dance with falling leaves …

LYRICS:
if memory is smoke, i am a bonfire doused an hour ago if purpose is an engine, turn my birthright into coal my temper borne of winter, i know hibernation well and the longer i must wait for justice, i grow ever hungry in the cold
grasping at the little i control, i fight the devil with a devil making deals, it hardly matters when you’re gambling with worthless things like souls and other horrors turn my terror into terror take from them just what they took from me
it’s hard to shoot a pistol when you’re looking through a mask it’s hard to see a future when your purpose is your past if rage and engineering built my legacy of fire, i must sit upon my secret name each bullet shoot to kill and live to last
grasping at the little i control, i fight my shadow with an army — not the kind that wields my horrors, no, the kind that fights with laughter and the sunlight of forgiveness, looks through darkness and decorum, sees a man, not a monstrosity
if loneliness is prison, every touch is liberation love will outshine any antidote where hatred is a poison and i know good deeds don’t guarantee a path to some salvation but what if rage and engineering turn destruction to creation?
holding tight to what i can control, i fight my terror with a family making deals, the checks and balances, they help me build a birthright borne of blood and death and winter, peace hard won, and better justice i’ve reclaimed just what they took from me
i’ve reclaimed just what they took.
(i am in no way affiliated with critical role. i just think it’s really great.)golden boy - tary’s songLilli Furfaro2022-02-13 | a song for taryon darrington, of the darrington brigade.
LYRICS:
golden boy i’ve never been the golden boy except for when i travel through the doorway of my bookcase and into other lives i try them on for size and find them to my liking golden boy i want to be the golden boy instead i’m stuck with gold in coffers, empty rooms, the weight of expectation and the grip of desperation to fill anyone with pride let me be the golden boy i want to be your golden boy
learning me between mechanics, lore, and chemistry he gives the gift of been seen for who i am and not ignored for who i could be but love won’t pay the bills or feed the legacy so you give up on learning me and tell me that it’s good for me
you tell me what i’m worth, and i believe it you tell me what my name is worth, my pride, and i believe it you tell me i’m delusional, that i am soft and malleable, but so is gold, and i can prove that i am just as valuable i tell myself i’m gold and i believe it he told me i am gold, and i have gold, so i believe it i’ll paint myself the golden boy, the world will know the golden boy and other boys in empty rooms will know they can be golden too
suddenly i’m slammed into reality i crash my shining comet down to earth and unexpectedly collide with other lives i try them on for size, and find them to my liking learning me apart from who you said i’d be my pride is in my charity i’m living now on scrap and spit and stories but i understand the glory of a legacy of light and i can be the golden boy i can be the golden boy
(i am in no way affiliated with critical role. i just think it’s really great.)found - scanlan’s songLilli Furfaro2022-02-06 | a song for the bard supreme.
LYRICS:
oh, every girl in town, they know my name at any door i’m never turned away my tongue has many uses (be it pleasure or excuses) invite me in, but know i cannot stay
i’ve got a reputation to uphold i’m in my prime, in spite of getting old each tune and each recital offers proof that i’m still vital they buy my lies wherever they are sold
i go by many names and many faces i’m infamous and wanted many places i’m searching for, you see, a missing part of me — but let’s not look at that! alone, i’m free
this entertainer travels with a band some friends who revel with me ‘cross the land and though we’ve faced real danger i still feel that i’m a stranger like any story, nothing goes as planned
into my rambling life, there comes a tether unfortunately two birds of a feather a girl i wish i’d known a daughter, smart and grown she hates me, and again i am alone
now disillusioned with my fame there’s one way i can clear my name: embrace my kin and hence begin a life of reparations
to prove i can be something more to her (and me) i shut the door on those i called my friends and leave a wake of devastation
my selfhood making much more sense my lifeblood given recompense i find my self remaining incomplete
but all good stories have a knack for recapitulation — i’m beckoned back to once familiar streets
now as divine appointed storyteller crowned i tell my tales both live and leather-bound we all could use reminding that our pasts are never binding and any part that’s missing can be found
(i am in no way affiliated with critical role. i just think it’s really great.)nothing from nothing - vex’s songLilli Furfaro2022-01-30 | a song for the wielder of fenthras and forgiveness.
LYRICS:
deep in the cover of russet and green i move like my brother, i know i’m not seen out in the world shine like light through the leaves then come to the woods to feel clean
i was a stain scrubbed from family lands they must of known then i’d have blood on my hands we left to find mother, knew she’d understand we found the destruction; we ran
nothing from nothing is not how i’ll stay so i’ll cling to the treasures i find on the way gold and good people, collect them the same i’ll know what it means to be safe
the aching is soothed by the wealth we’ve amassed but old hurts and scarring need cures that will last i’ll earn a new future to buy out my past new fortune, new family, hold fast
again i learn safety is not guaranteed my life for another, my brother to plead and loosed like an arrow, a burning new need i take to the sky; i am freed
i know i am charming, i know i am swift but the trees see right through me, a wound and a gift i cut out the cancer and choose to forgive i choose to let go, choose to live
nothing from nothing is not how i’ll stay i’ll plant a new forest and find my own way loved and worth loving — i feel them the same i know what it means to be safe
(i am in no way affiliated with critical role. i just think it’s really great.)second chances - pike’s songLilli Furfaro2022-01-23 | a song for the champion of sarenrae.
LYRICS:
little light, are you listening? little light, i have so much to show you
i’m a house with the light on on the path when you’e walking in darkness your clothes might be dirty and covered with blood but i’ll still have a hot meal here waiting
and you have a spirit that holds like a hand and your heart is a safe place for others to land just remember this one thing and you’ll make me proud: second chances are always allowed
little light people see you as a person that they can look up to
they will come with their questions even when you don’t have any answers i ask you to look past their dirt and their blood — a hot bath and forgiveness are weighty
and you have two hands made to raise others up and you have two clear eyes to see others with love when they call you for guidance, make sure that you know: second chances will help them to grow
but a fire unfed can grow dim betrayal can steal all the kindling within the choices of family and friends disappoint and it’s always your job to be bigger than them you are tired, you’re feeling unsure you don’t know if you’re all that good anymore you want to hold onto your anger a while ‘cause your build to hold everyone else’s but this one is yours
little light, are you listening? little light, just look up, i’m beside you
you don’t need to be perfect even when you’re surrounded by dark you see paths that need lighting, including your own, and i’m there with my arms open, waiting
and you have a purpose — it’s hard and it’s grand but i’ll always be holding your heart and your hand when you rebuild my temple, it’s true even now: second chances are always allowed
(i am in no way affiliated with critical role. i just think it’s really great.)new pack - grog’s songLilli Furfaro2022-01-16 | a song for the grand poobah himself.
LYRICS:
flesh of stone and belt of bone we titans tower, crack, and groan anywhere we take our home and suck the marrow til it’s dry
head of pack, he gives the word to beat old man, break bones like birds i heave, i stand against the herd they laugh, beat, leave me here to die
old man saves me, raises me til grown his little light takes me as her own my heart made flesh where once was stone we shout our mettle to the sky
little light shines and finds us friends we fight, and drink, and fight again i know our glory shall not end we’ll laugh, rage, battle til we die
when here be dragons all around the head of pack has taken our town i spit, i swear to take him down or fall with honour when i try
best i know he won’t fight fair we circle, bite, we sniff the air we beat our breasts, break heavy stare we laugh, know one of us will die
and when the fight is turning grim my new pack tears him limb from limb we heave, we cleave, we bury him we raise our victory on high
it’s with their light, their strength, their song my friends, they show me right and wrong it’s in my family i am strong it’s in my family i am strong it’s in my family i am strong
(i am in no way affiliated with critical role. i just think it’s really great.)lessons - keyleth’s songLilli Furfaro2022-01-09 | a song for the voice of the tempest.
lyrics: i was born at the ends of the earth where the wind sang us songs and we sang them back we know how to keep our footing it’s our job to keep our footing when the wind is your teacher, your father’s its voice, you’ve got big shoes to fill and we know how to keep our footing but i’ve got two left feet
but i’m learning, i’m learning, i’m learning, i’m learning to step a little lighter and talk a little quieter sometimes i mumble, sometimes i overstep sometimes i wish my mother hadn’t left, but that’s life i guess
i have a family who moves like the wind does they laugh when i laugh, and i laugh when they don’t they know how to catch my footing and nudge me into place sometimes i feel there’s a burning within me sometimes i want to scream and they know how to catch my footing but i can walk just fine
i’m learning, i’m learning, i’m learning, i’m learning that burning needs earth, wind, and water to balance sometimes i’m angry, sometimes i get sad but when our directions go bad, i can be our compass
i have a partner who said that he loves me it took me some time, but i said it back we can watch each other’s footing i love to watch his footing his wings and his wonder make him one with the elements his words and his laugh fill my heart like the wind does the wind lives forever i thought we had more time
but i’m learning, i’m learning, i’m learning, i’m learning that passing through fire can help things grow again sometimes it’s hard, and sometimes i don’t want to but sometimes i hear the wind speak, i was born to pick up the mantle and speak for the storm and my people and family and home
now i’m back where the wind sings me songs my family’s all safe, but i’ll see them gone i know how to keep my footing it’s my job to keep my footing now i can speak at a pace that is fitting step with the confidence wisdom has given i can keep my footing and give it to the wind

LYRICS
CALEB: give me a reason to believe that your mind is yours / and he's got no hold over you give me a reason not to leave and forget who we were / like the families we burned
i barely recognize us anymore tell me more about that scar of yours who gave it to you? / who robbed me of you?
ASTRID: give me a reason to believe that your mind is whole / that the things i've heard weren't true remember, we had a destiny and the families we lost / were simply the cost
i barely recognize you anymore tell me more what are you here for? you broke back then / it's good to see you again
TOGETHER: he saw a spark in us he opened doors for us he paved the way for us no one could tread on us we could be glorious your heart divided us now there's no home for us just the ashes remain
i barely recognize us anymore tell me more what are we here for? to suffer / to conquer / to mournmelora’s lullabyLilli Furfaro2020-11-08 | a song from the Wildmother. lyrics below.

LYRICS
seas breathe, they feel the pull of moons and know the in / and out trees speak, they feel the breath of seas, and whisper deep
and if you listen for them, you will hear me speak if you still your body, you will feel me breathe if you turn to face creation and your heart is wide and open you will see and breathe me
my child, the wind and waves have known you all by name my wild has lived inside the both of you the same
your lungs have reaching branches like the trees your bodies move in cycles like the seas my nature knows the in and out the breath of death and life of pain and ease just breathe me
waves crest, the land and sea know violence and the calm / in storm winds rest, the beauty in the balance of the cold and warm
and in the changes, you will hear me speak and in the balance, you will feel me breathe and if you treat creation with a heart that's wide and open you will see and breathe mesome announcements - a songLilli Furfaro2020-10-02 | ANNOUNCEMENTS LISTED HERE! (IN MORE DETAIL!)

i breathe stories i breathe them in and out there’s nothing like the witness of a world that’s being born i breathe stories my lungs are filled with pirate ships and towers built, and towers falling down
i speak rivers into motion i raise mountains with abandon i write cities sprawling over land and people to complete them i tell stories of my family in a world that i have written and my family breathes my stories my love is etched in continents and seas
we are stories beginnings, middles, ends our power lies in living lives that touch a life or two we are stories our families have grown to hold the lives that touch the lives that touch the lives that we do
we are poetry in motion and our words give life to action in this world we’ve built on games of chance and hours of introspection let our stories turn to tidal waves that sweep our families home again and maps are etched in memories and melodies and who we want to be
i breathe stories i breathe them in and out and stories stitched together are how families are born we are stories our lives are built on weaving all our stories into worlds we call our own
we are power, we’re devotion love each other with abandon we are rivers, mountains, cities and the tapestry that holds them my heart is in the brushstrokes of the world that i have written and my family breathes my stories my love is etched in continents and seaspain and pleasure - molly’s songLilli Furfaro2020-08-30 | a song for our circus man. long may he reign. find me on twitter (@lilli_furfaro) and on instagram (@lilli_furfaro_music)

‘cause he eats life he eats life knows the taste of pain and pleasure knows the bit of love and strife he’ll drink all of yours stories and he’ll pour some of his own you decide if you believe him but you’ll never drink alone
come see the empty man with dirt caked on his tongue come see the empty man, he’s only two years young he’s got blood that flows with magic he’s got eyes carved in his skin (we are soon to see his ending but we don’t know where he begins)
so he eats life he eats life pain and pleasure push aside the void and boredom’s like a knife by chance he finds a family so he loves them as his own and no matter what the circumstance they’ll never drink alone
come see the circus man before he breathes his last he knows his angel’s missing, knows the danger hasn’t passed he takes a risk to save her (it’s all borrowed time, he knows) now he stares into the face of death with eyes that never closebright - caleb’s songLilli Furfaro2020-08-23 | a song for our sad wizard. find me on twitter: @lilli_furfaro and on instagram: @lilli_furfaro_music
bright they called him bright that meant good that meant right proud he made them proud he had two friends and they stood out
and people noticed the people came to them and they told them they could be brighter
spark his teacher lit a spark the world was big the world was dark
but he could light it and keep his people safe they taught him good they taught him right what’s right
lies they fed him lies he felt betrayed so he cut ties
they were his family he burned them all the same then he broke and lost his mind, his friends, his name
eleven years as a pit of ash waiting to blow away in the wind a washed-up wunderkind circuits blown to smoking pieces tried to leave him there i tried to be someone different here but no matter the mud that dries on my face it’s cleaner than my insides
you treat me like i’m special, someone gifted, someone good, someone worthy, someone right i was bright now i’m torn to smoking pieces no, don’t get too close don’t you know that fire burns
good you called me good i’ll try to live you said I could
right i’ll make this right you make me brave i’ll make us bright
when people notice we’ll bring the fire to them and we’ll show them what makes us brighterresurrection - veth’s songLilli Furfaro2020-08-16 | a song for our rogue mom. find me on twitter: @lilli_furfaro
you’ve all seen my hands and told me you’re sorry you’ve seen my smile and you screamed i’ve cut my teeth on buttons and secrets so i’ll cover my mouth and drink ‘til i forget to breathe
you know me now this body i’m in i wish i knew how to shed this poison skin i am a thief, i am a liar i found a friend after the fire now i can hide you’ll offer protection so i’ll stay until i find the way to my resurrection
you’re covered in dirt, and i hate the water we both know it hurts to be seen now you know that i’ve drowned in this river and a sea of angry faces you’ve shown me your shame now i need you to help me wash mine clean
'cause you know me now you didn’t know me then you say you love me now but you don’t remember when i was a wife, i was a mother i was alive now i’m a monster i’d do it again for my son and lover and i’ll find my way to them on the day of my resurrection
you all know my name well, both that i’ve told you you tell me i’m brave, when before i was not(t) it’s been a long time since i’ve had a family and now i have two to take care of to remind me when i have forgot
that you know me now and still you call me a friend you made me a vow and you’ll keep it ‘til my end then in the clay we find an answer i was a drunk, i was a monster now again i’m a wife again i’m a mother and i feel myself again (i will feel myself again) (I will find myself again)bottom line - beau’s songLilli Furfaro2020-08-09 | a song for our monk, who learns by trying. find me on twitter: @lilli_furfaro
chin up, back straight put on my father’s smile big plans, big world he’ll listen if i can pretend round two, no dice okay, i’ll step my game up big boss? big deal maybe he’ll listen to me then
'cause what father doesn’t know won’t hurt him and if you’ve got bridges to burn, you better burn ‘em ‘cause if actions speak louder than words bottom line — they sent me away
one, two, swing right out on my father’s smile big hit, cut left won’t see it coming if i grin i’m like lightning, real fast (and i cause a lot of static) big shock, big mouth why can’t they tell it like it is?
'cause they say i don’t care about the discipline but only one of them can see that i’ve been listenin’ and if actions speak louder than words bottom line — so does a fist
new friends, new job i get a bit suspicious what do you want? i better keep my guard up be tough, be loud that’s how you keep ‘em guessing you don’t belong (no, that’s my father speaking)
they think i’m strong make me responsible for playing both sides i'm sniffing out corruption i know firsthand what makes a hypocrite raised by that man right in the thick of it
breathe in, breathe out i feel it in my body learning just how to use my words before my hands
[breath]
patience goes far especially when it comes to waiting so long for friends that kind of understand
that i may stun ‘em and i may bruise ‘em but I’d rather lose myself than ever lose ‘em and if actions speak louder than words bottom line — we’re gonna be alrightseasons - caduceus’ songLilli Furfaro2020-08-02 | a song for our steady firbolg cleric. “holy” means “set apart.” find me on twitter: @lilli_furfaro available on bandcamp for download by donation: lillifurfaro.bandcamp.com/track/seasons
holy holy, holy are our bodies hidden, buried in the dirt waiting waiting for the years to change us set apart to feed the earth
and as your seasons change it is our privilege to know your names for when you come our way it is our privilege to plant you back in place beneath the grass, beneath the clay
holy holy, holy is my family keepers of our mother’s grove leaving leaving home to find some healing me and the garden all alone
but as the seasons change the sickness spreads and the decay remains but then there comes a day our mother speaks, and there’s some people here to show me there’s a world beyond the graves
holy is the path on which she leads me though sometimes it’s hard to see learning every stumble has its purpose i’m still afraid, but i believe
and as the seasons change she leads me on to see my family saved and in the coming days i lead another on her path, one she’s been calling since she found him on the waves
holy holy, holy are our bodies and the life within our bones waiting waiting for a sign to show me that it’s time to go back home.mothers - fjord’s songLilli Furfaro2020-07-26 | a song for the warlock/paladin that continues to prove to us that it’s okay to change your mind. a new recording now available for download-by-donation here: lillifurfaro.bandcamp.com/track/mothers find me on twitter: @lilli_furfaro
little boy, who loves you like the sea? what mother here could carry you and cradle you and hold you like she does?
little boy, who holds you when you sleep? what voices come to comfort you in lonely rooms with blood between you teeth?
well mothers, they may come and go like waves and tides, they ebb and flow, but that’s okay, ‘cause you have learned to speak in tongues that aren’t your own when the others gape and grin at monster fangs and monster skin you know your tongue will always win you know your tongue will always win
you thought you found a father on the sea what father here could teach you, care for you, notice you like he does?
then another man who called you his friend made sure you’d never see him again and as you sank you knew why they called you a stone
little boy who whispers when you dream? what voices talk of giving you real power where you’ve never had control?
little boy, you know it’s hard to breathe the water here will drown you running out of you like blood between your teeth
well fathers, they may come and go like waves and tides, they ebb and flow but that’s okay, ‘cause you have learned to use a power that’s not your own when your dealer’s cashing in uncertainty beneath your skin you pray that it will never win you pray that it will never win
little boy, who loves you like the sea? what mother here would wait for you, call to you, love you like she does?
well mothers, they may come and go like waves and tides, they ebb and flow but now you’ve found a mother who’s convinced you that you’ve found a home when your will is wearing thin you feel the ocean deep within and know that she will always win you know that she will always wineyes warm, eyes wide - jester’s songLilli Furfaro2020-07-12 | a song about (and for) Jester Lavorre. song now available for download-by-donation! find it here: lillifurfaro.bandcamp.com/releases find me on twitter: twitter.com/lilli_furfaro
sapphire princess, ivory tower her prince is her imaginary friend (he's got cool powers) tells a joke she thinks is funny he thinks it's funny, so it is and it goes on and on like that for many years
eyes warm, eyes wide eyes searching for a button she can push and press and cut and frame the smile it begets upon her wall her chaos non-conforming it's a seed she's planted, rooted in us all
so the sapphire leaves her tower chasing down a chance at life beyond its walls (she's got cool powers) finds a group of friends that love her though she's had to leave her mother she'll be fine she can think about the sad another time
eyes warm, eyes wide eyes staring at the water she could be a better daughter she could - stop that train of thought put on a smile if she's fooling all her friends she can keep playing pretend a little while
there's a world and there's war and there's the folks she's fighting for and there's a sea of glowing jellyfish and dancing lights and painting shit and she's found the man that left her so she has to find what's left but she's yet to find a problem that's too big for her imaginary friend
eyes warm, eyes wide eyes searching for an answer in a world that couldn't stand a chance against the cake and courage in her heart and she's finding that an answer might have traveled with her, in her from the start
